MSGSHCI - Game Thread

The MSG Secure Hospital for the Criminally Insane (MSGSHCI)

"We don't call them inmates, we call them patients."

Night was falling on the hospital.

"Alright, into your room, come on..." a Nurse chivvied one of the patients into his cell, who had his head down. He slowly obeyed, but the guard in the corner of the room watched carefully. The Nurse began to shut the door, when suddenly a scream came up from a nearby cell. The guard turned. The nurse shut the door quickly, and turned to leave.

The patient's eyes, previously dull and submissive, became alert. He looked up quickly, and reached through the small window in his cell door and quickly plucked a key from the Nurse's back pocket. He withdrew his arm quickly before she turned around to check the cell had locked itself. A quick tug at the door, and she was satisfied enough, hurrying off to deal with the other patients.

The sound of footsteps slowly echoed through the corridors of the institution, made by the few people who were left on patrol. The inhabitants of this miserable place were now mostly quiet in their cells. Those who refused to be quiet had been sedated, and a slow calm was descending upon the place. Water dripped slowly from a leaky water pipe above one of the corridors. It was in this corridor where that one patient stood up from his bunk, and quietly unlocked the door. Something was about to happen.

I don't know how to play this game.

I thought people here would roleplay or something like hello I'm a crazy person and I will shoot you all and stuff like that.

In all honesty, I always find day 1 a bit hard myself as well. We have to get leads out of nothing, which is a whole lot harder than later in the game when patterns are becoming visible. Still, the best thing to do now is to try and look for posts that don't seem right to you. Call someone out if you feel their logic is flawed. Put some pressure on someone who is doing things you disagree with. On that note, I'll

unvote

as Theophilos has given me no reason to keep my random vote on him.

The point I was trying to make is that by picking someone to lynch with no information, the town is taking a chance on lynching the cop. Since I am not the cop, that is a "plus". Don't read too much into it.

And why is it a good thing for the town that this information is out in the open? Doesn't the scum benefit much more from getting this information? If you were not lying, they have one less townie to consider for their NK tonight. If you are lying, then it will make your possible future roleclaim lose it's credibility.

I'm getting good reads on EM, Martino, and junkaholic. Narsis too but not quite as the three.

I like how they're calling KevinH out on seemingly paradoxical and untownie WIFOMs.

Do not read anything into my absence, I have been working on the academy test.

I am not sure what is going on right now. There seems to be no clear way to choose.

Looking back through the posts I seem to think that there are clear voices of reason...and it is those people that have me wondering. If you are guilty seems to me that you would want to look like someone who is really analyzing everything...people would think you were leading them away from the townies when actually you were leading them away from yourself.

I don't know if that makes sense but I still think Kevin gets my vote. Although I still have a hunch about Narsis.

The reasons you just gave don't seem to particularly fit your votes on KevinH and Narsis. Again, self-preservation by defending one's self is a principle that any player would follow, townies alike. And how are they analyzing everything?

I continue to leave my vote with KevinH for the reason that if we have to lynch a townie, I want it to be one that is not as willing to use his lynch power as others. This gives the players with night kill one less target to pick from. As long as they don't make any overt indication they are anti-town and continue to pick off lynchers eventually, they would have the numbers to win. Not lynching means we let the anti-town roles have their way with us. I want townies with me that will use their lynch power to hunt down anti-towners, its all we got! There aren't going to be many scum-tells this early in the game and thus, assuming we end up lynching a townie due to odds, I want to pick the most deluded poison.

I'd rather not lynch KevinH if its not necessary. As many people have pointed out, vouching for a different strategy isn't necessarily a scum tell. In fact at this point considering my new information about his history using this strategy, I think he is probably town. However, my vote will rest with him because of the reasons I mentioned. If more conclusive evidence comes up of anti-town roles, i'll instantly change my vote. I am not going to condemn anyone for playing a different way than me, its just the best option for now.

I feel like we're collectively closing the discussion on lynch/no lynch so i'll move on.

What is the rationale for voting Sojourner at this point? I missed the posts about the evidence against him. I gathered he is a bandwagoner, is that all we got?

Defending on sojourner's behalf much? And pushing for KevinH's head much?

Not just he's a bandwagoner but the lack of logical basis for his votes. His recent post proves as much.

I continue to leave my vote with KevinH for the reason that if we have to lynch a townie, I want it to be one that is not as willing to use his lynch power as others.

Just to clarify, I only advocate a no-lynch on day 1. If there are 7 people that want to lynch on day 1, lynching me will not improve your lynch power on day 2.

... I think he is probably town.

So lynching me helps the town how?

@ Falzis: I'm not defending Sojourner, I just was unaware of the evidence against him. Is he an experienced player or is his illogical behavior due to being a rookie? I don't know much about him.

@ KevinH: Alright that clears up a lot KevinH. I understood it that your strategy was to wait to lynch until their was clear evidence of a anti-town role. I probably read you wrong, thats my mistake. I apologize for coming down on you so hard, considering that it was a misunderstanding. I still don't necessarily agree with a no lynch strat but, I do not think you should get lynched for it as I made clear in my earlier post. I was only trying to convey that someone without the guts to lynch later in the game would be a detriment to the town as often we need to make a clutch decision. I believe you have the guts to do it and I think you've got the know-how to play the game seeing as you've so diligently defended your no lynch strat. I hope this clears things up for you. I don't want you to think I was really after your head, besides the fact that I disagreed with your strategy allbeit wrongly.

UNVOTE

the plot thinned!! oooh, sorry, thickens!!

good job on calling off the vote on Kevin if you suspect he is sided with the town. find someone who is scummier and try to convince everybody else he is scum :P

FOS: Aquinas

Reason: Flip-flopping and blatant inconsistency (per Kevin's quote of why vote to lynch someone you consider a townie)

And this doesn't sit right with me... hmm...

VOTE COUNT

sojourner (4): Kaziocore, Electric Mango, Falzis, Calderone

KevinH (2): Sir Jesus, sojourner

No Lynch (1): KevinH

Not Voting (6): Aquinas, Narsis, junkahoolik, Theophilos, Nerau, Martino

With 13 alive, 7 is needed to lynch.

Post count so far in this thread:

junkahoolik	26Falzis	25Narsis	19KevinH	18Theophilos	14Calderone	9Electric Mango	9sojourner	7Sir Jesus	7Aquinas	7Nerau	5Martino	4Kaziocore	4

I make no comment regarding the quality of the posts (a "hmmm" counts the same as EM's multi-paragraph summary).

However, in the end-game I would rather be playing with more active players than less.

What's the point of this might I ask? Is it to say who's scummier or not based on post count?

At least I have someone who is a frequent poster like me lol... I'm addicted to Mafia right now that I even prod my real life friends to play it lol :D

I really wouldn't mind dropping this Falzis and I don't mean to dwell but i'm hoping to clear my name in your eyes.

I figured that there won't be many scum tells this early in the game because it is still to easy for everyone to just claim townie.

Thus, I wanted to eliminate KevinH on the basis that he wouldn't use his lynch vote appropriately. I meant to explain a few times that I wasn't doing it because of a scum tell and I didn't really want to eliminate KevinH because I thought he was to likely town. However, I thought because he wouldn't lynch he'd be a poor canidate to keep with me as townie later. However, this was a misunderstanding on my behalf. I didn't switch positions I just misunderstood and immediately corrected myself.

I hope this doesn't sit uneasy with you. I understood his strategy wrong and was a little trigger happy. I chose to vote for him because I thought his strategy would hinder my chances of lynching scum. Whereupon I learned the correct version of his strategy I took back my vote because it was wrong. I simply corrected a mistake. I haven't flip flopped my opinions or convictions.

well, it's a better reason than i had for voting narsis. i just wanted my name to appear on the voted list :P and i have a thing against the people that seem to be trying to help me... ooh well, don't you just love no0bs?? :P

I, obviously :P, disagree. I've always been a fan of 'speak up when you really have something to add, be quiet if you don't'. Spam does not help the town. In fact, spam hinders the town as the content posts can get buried by spam. I also find the spam annoying when I reread a topic, as it makes me dig through a whole lot of useless posts. I, therefore, believe that the content to noise ratio, possibly in combination with the post count, is a much better indicator of who is trying to help the town and who is not. In the end, I would like to play with those who help me win this game, not those who are the most active.

Although I wouldn't take the content to noise ratio of D1 too much into account. We need something to get the game started and I can understand that spam may be used for that.

Fair explanation Aquinas. Yep you misunderstood KevinH. Moving on...

There's still a lot of uncommitted people (those not voting yet)... I wonder what's going on through their minds...

But what does your gut tell you?
What's the point of this might I ask? Is it to say who's scummier or not based on post count?

Sort of. It's a good scum strategy to lay low and avoid controversy. It's also a bit of a prod to get some players a bit more active.

I will agree with Martino that his posts had alot of content and it's not fair to compare it to all the spam.

On the other hand, I'd rather see spam than nothing (especially if it's entertaining spam -- poetry gets bonus points).

I want to weigh in on a couple things.

1st, I don't find Aquinas any more scummier for his change of votes on KevinH. I followed his logic and nothing pinged my scumdar. If anything he helped the town by putting pressure on someone. That's a good way to squeeze out some information that otherwise may have remained hidden.

2nd, don't think KevinH is any more or less scummy because he wants a Day 1 no lynch. I've played lots of games with KevinH and that's how he does it every time.

3rd, I agree to a certain point that more active people tend to get pro-town points from me over the "lurkers". Granted it's never always one way or another but I have always felt that information is the towns best weapon and those willing to weigh in and make their opinions knows help the town. I have always felt that the scum would want to blend in as much as possible. One way to do that is not let anything slip or give any information that might help the town win.

I don't like spam either but I find it helpful even if people post just a little bit. It can be anything on their mind at all. It doesn't even have to be anything new. Anything to let your opinions knows can help, like agreeing w/ someone or not.

However, there are experienced players out there who say the opposite. Some say that those with power roles (doc, cop, mafia, sk, etc) do more posting than others. They claim that the increased responsibiltiy is what drives them back to the thread more than those with just vanilla roles.

Something to think about anyway.
