My ultimate hope for the series is that in the end the galaxy will conclude that it is better off without Jedi/Sith as a whole as they really are the two sides of the same coin (KOTOR 2 vibes)

That last line she says in that trailer was rewritten in the final script for that scene with Adam Driver. In the final she says "I need someone to show me my place in all this"... before the rewrite it was "I need someone to show me whose light saber I have to rub on to get this part". I myself, need someone to show me the end of all this. Hollywood is full of hypocritical scumbags that are now eating their own for their own survival. I will have nothing to do with going to the movies for a very long time. I'll stick with Netflix and catch it there.

im sure the trailer was filled with lots of misdirection.    i bet rey's line is early to luke, not kylo.  and snoke at the beginning is talking to rey, not kylo.

After seeing that I feel like I know what will happen in the movie, I hope not but I see why the director warned against watching it. Theory below

Kylo Ren betrays the first order when Snoke tries to get him to kill Leia.

 

She dies anyway, probably life/force sucked out by big bad clayface.

 

Luke dies or something happens to force him into the background like imprisonment or he leaves to get allies or some crap, thus abandoning Rey and she then gets Kylo to teach her the force. Or some new character that will come out of no where, but will be a call back to older movies. My money is on Kylo.

 

Most the rebel fighters will be X-wings, they will once again forget about things like A-wings, B-wings, D-wings and all the other support fighters that the rebel alliance had and yet somehow misplaced, the rebel fleet will look ragtag despite the fact that they have had the full support of the senate since the death of the emperor and people should have been flooding to their cause with recruits, money and supplies which includes warships.

 

They are going to copy Empire as much as possible; the ATATs, snow troopers and old Jedi teacher who is worried about teaching a student who has great potential but is worried they will become evil. There will also be a big twist to try and recreate the "no I am your father" something they think is unexpected that will be an attempt to throw people off. If I had to guess about the twist it will be something convoluted and a blatant copy like having Snoke being Anakin's father, I am hoping that this one is wrong because the other possibility is that Snoke is from the Old Republic and that would open up the cannon to making a dark movie/mini/HBO series about the Mandalorian wars, but the last movie was a blatant copy of a New Hope so I fear its going to be a copy of Empire strikes back. Speaking of Empire where the hell is Lando, Billy Dee Williams is alive.

 

The ending will be a murky one where neither the bad guys win or the good guys but it obviously looks like the bad guys are unbeatable.They will also probably elude to a new super weapon for the next film and since they have no creativity it will be another lame attempt at a deathstar.

I am holding onto hope that I'd does not end up just a carbon copy of empire.

Very hard to speculate on this. Years ago, going to the movies was the absolute form of entertainment, and there was really no need to market much. When I was a kid we had our local theater and they had what was called a "Double Feature". One screen theater with a "B" movie first, an intermission, and then the "Feature Presentation". A movie like "Gone with the Wind" that was 4 hours long had an intermission built into the film.

 

The multiplex was a new idea and started with like 4 screens. These days it's not uncommon to have 16 screens. The movie market is severely watered down now, and movies made today that are considered box office bombs would have made a ton back when there was less competition, and a movie like "Gone with the Wind" today would be panned by Rotten Tomatoes and sent straight to DVD. I believe the golden age of movies is quickly evaporating. The TV series is too good, too strong, and Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu will take over... and it won't even be a contest.

oh I agree with this, TV shows are super strong right now. netflix, amazon, and hulu are def the future.  tho with super blockbusters like star wars, the amount of screens it is on is ridiculous.  it will be on the vast majority of screens at every single theater.  the one by my  house has 15 screens and on the 14th and 15th 10 of the 15 screens are dedicated to star wars.  so yeah back then movies were an absolute form of entertainment sure, but with mega blockbusters like star wars, it becomes more of an event.  who knows tho.  thats like trying to take athletes from different eras and saying they would play better.  no way to ever really know

Well if your taking a poll... I always thought The Empire Strikes Back was hands down the best of the SW franchise, but Rogue One really caught me off guard... I really enjoyed it. You have to give chops to the first one though, because without that you would not have the rest.

 

A better question would be which one is the worst... for whatever reason, but then you get into the realm of those that I never paid attention to, can't remember because it was so bad, or flat out didn't even see it after hard core SW fans told me not to even bother.

 

For the record, I never did give the later ones much attention after I was so disappointed with Return of the Jedi. Binge watching Game of Thrones is a far better experience, and a better way to spend your time.
