[MK-3] Pick Your Power X/Y - Town Wins

Pick Your Power X/Y Mafia

Mechanics

At the beginning of the game, there is a draft to determine the order for the bidding on roles.

Once this has happened, each player will send in the role they'd like to be. Only one role from each "slot" will be awarded.

As such, in the event multiple players select the same role (or the same "slot"), the player highest in the draft order wins the role, whilst the others remain Vanilla.

Roles are then distributed and Day 1 begins.

Throughout the bidding phases, the thread is locked, however, mafia may collude privately during this time and then again throughout the day.

Step 1: The Draft

Once alignments have been dealt out, each player must send a (whole) number back to the mod, with the lowest unique number winning the draft. Second place is awarded to the second lowest unique number and so on, until all unique numbers have been exhausted. Next placed on the list is the lowest doubled numbers, followed by the next lowest doubled numbers, and so on. Continue this same process for triples and quadruples.

In cases of multiple players selecting the same number, the higher placed between these players is chosen randomly.

Step 2: Bidding for Roles

Once the draft order has been determined, each player PM's the moderator of the game with the role they'd like to be. Roles are unisex, in the sense, that they can be selected by Mafia or Town. So, it's possible to have a Mafia 1-Shot Vig or a Town 1-Shot Vig, and so on.

Here are the list of roles players select from:

1)Night 3 Vigilante OR Vengeful

2)1-Shot Vigilante OR 1-Shot PGO

3)Cop OR 1-Shot Redirector

4)1-Shot Commuter OR 1-Shot Watcher

5)Doctor OR Roleblocker

6)Universal Backup OR Role Cop

7)Neighborizer OR Fruit Vendor

8)Jailkeeper OR Tracker

Players

1. SeaBeeGipson

2. Lachiton

3. Brewersalliance

4. Canik, Town Tracker, was killed in cold blood on Night 3.

5. KevinH, Mafia Universal Backup, was arrested on Day 3.

6. Vgmmaster, Mafia goon, committed suicide on Day 4.

7. KitKat16, Vanilla Townie, disappeared during Night 1

8. The Warrior, Vanilla Townie, was stabbed on Day 2.

9. Rafay, Mafia Goon, was assassinated on Night 3.

11. Robert2424

12. GoldIron,1-Shot Watcher, was lynched on Day 1

13. iSocialism

14. FrigidInferno, Townie Cop, was shot on Night 2.

  • During the Day phase each player may speak and vote in-thread.
  • If a player receives the majority of the available votes during the Day, they are lynched.
  • At deadline, a player with half-majority will be lynched.
  • If two players have reached half-majority and have the same number of votes, the player who reached that number of votes first will be lynched.
  • You may vote No Lynch.
  • After the Day, the game goes to Night.
  • The game thread is closed during the Night. The Mafia can talk to each other at Night as well as during Day.
  • All Active Roles may submit actions via PM at Night.
  • The Mafia can, as a faction, kill one player at Night.
  • After the Night, the game goes to Day.
  • All dead players (lynched or killed) can no longer participate in the game.
  • Basic rules for maintaining the integrity of the game thread are in effect (i.e. players may not quote their Role PMs, nor may they discuss the game outside the game thread unless otherwise permitted, etc.)
  • The game is won when only one faction remains in the game.
  • You may pm me questions or ask them in the game thread.
  • When voting, please enter your vote on a separate line of your post so that it isn't easily missed.
Game Days will last as many real-life days as there are players alive, though the day lasts for a minimum of 7 days at all times.Game Nights will last 48 hours but will include at least one weekday.

Not really indoctrination. I've come to this conclusion via my experience. It's a fight everywhere. I'm surprised somebody hasn't pulled the, let's just do night 0 first and jump straight in. (Not in favor of it, but it's a interesting concept for mafia to kill first and power roles use the ability before discussion begins.

VOTE FRIDGIDE

does this count as a vote against me? i mean he's not spelling my name even remotely correctly.

Fridgicide

also we need one more vote on isoc to at least keep it at four votes tille deadline(has anyone actually been voted off before deadline before?)

ok, you just asked someone to hammer iSoc

thats FoS worthy lol

this game is dead

I mean, really

no lynch discussion on day 2

we got plenty of days folks, let's get talking

SBG in my games with him has been far more active. But on Discord, he says he is busy, so that's fine.

I really don't like Rafay's playstyle, we should start policy lynching him on Day 1 until he stops it

I can confirm SBG is very busy in RL so thats probably why hes MIA.  his job keeps merging departments into his, so he keeps getting more shit to do lol

since you dont want a no lynch d2, do you have any thoughts on the votes so far/suspects, or anything new to add?

The only "evidence " against me that I vote for a lynch day one. Not for a townie, he was unknown to be that at the time of my vote. I would never vote for a town member to be lynched. Anyways all this seems like a distraction, quiet a bit of people are so focused on the wagon. No one is wanting to talk about the others. I know there's not much to on. But going lynch happy on someone for voting for a lynch is a little oxymoronic. Provide more evidence for me than just. OMG a hammer

I mean hammer the hammer :D, but like kevin had said earlier, i'd rather lynch someone on the Day 1 lynch than not, and between picking TW, isoc, or lego, i picked the hammer/ the one who's really just deflecting without adding to the discussion. so yes, isoc: OMG a hammer.

I would never vote for a town member to be lynched.

i do believe you speak for literally every mafia player, scum or not. also, you kinda did, even without knowing, unless you did know because you ARE scum.

I've been writing this post over the course of several hours at work when I have had time. If my train of thought got derailed somewhere along the way, let me know and I will attempt to clarify. I will also probably be writing more about this later because I don't think this is everything.

Reading back through the majority of the thread I've noticed a few interesting habits of one person in particular who is not really being talked about much that I want to make sure to note. The person in question is Canik.

His first couple posts were just fluff storyline posts. Nothing out of the ordinary there for early in day 1.

Then in post #50 he mentioned how it was interesting that a "wagon" of three had formed on him for his storyline posts. He mentioned that it was likely that at least two of those voters were townie but then goes on to say that GoldIron (the third vote on Canik) could have been an over-eager scum who saw a wagon forming and made the mistake of joining it. We now know of course that GoldIron wasn't scum. This comment could have been said in jest of course, but I become less sure as the day goes on.

iSoc made his "I want to be suspicious, dibs on the hammer" post in post #58 to which Canik replied "You're always suspicious iSoc, as is Robert". Again seems innocent without the greater context or it could be an opportunity to slightly cast shade at two players that he knows are experienced and are members of the town.

In post #99 the following comment was made:

I hope GoldIron posts more soon. It doesn't have to be real in-depth analysis or anything but let us know you'll be decently active. Otherwise it is very tempting to lynch him and just see.

This particular comment starts to become more interesting as day 1 ended with GoldIron's lynch and in the immediate aftermath of it.

Then began the frigid-lego-brewers love triangle followed by this post from Canik:

Tough to get much from those wall of texts with a skimming over. And I don't have time for doing much more than that.

From what I've absorded currently tho I'm not getting a bad vibe from Frigid.

In any case, I don't like lynching active people D1. I don't mind lynching inactives tho if it seems they'll remain inactive. The main reason people say don't is because they can be replaced but.. those replacements are fairly often scum and it messes with town. I think SeeBeeGipson won it for Mafia last game that way if I'm not mistake.

So, might change this to a different inactive later but for the moment:

Unvote: SBG

Vote: GoldIron

He briefly comments on the love triangle but doesn't say much before starting to talk about how he doesn't want to lynch active people on day 1 and would rather lynch inactives if it appears that they will remain inactive.  He even mentions how inactive people can be replaced but they are fairly often scum. This is his basic argument for his vote on GoldIron on day 1.

He re-iterates his reason (inactivity) for voting for GoldIron in post #166:

Canik started off the game with a lulz vote but hasnt really posted anything of significance. Canik then placed a vote on GoldIron for not posting anything of significance in the game when in fact thats exactly what Canik has also done.

No I voted for GoldIron because he's inactive. Not due a lack of significance of his posts. I think I made that rather clear it's amazing how you got it twisted. xD

A few posts later he mentions again why lynching an inactive player is okay with him even though odds are you would be lynching a townie on day 1:

... but it should end in a no-lynch.

why?

For the most part I agree with him. Because odds are you'll lynch town not scum. That's why I don't want to risk it on an active player who could be helpful later. But with an inactive we're not risking as much. Plus people for real get overwhelmed/intimidated when they're scum and often times at least one of the scum go inactive. Then they, sometimes, get replaced later and everyone is like "He just joined the game, give him a chance. It'd be rude to lynch someone who just kindly filled in so we'd have a fully active game, etc".

And here is where things really start to get interesting regarding Canik. The day before day 1 deadline this little beauty was posted:

Hmm.. D1 ends tomorrow I think so it's tempting to move my vote off him and allow for a replacement. If SLMK can confirm he will be replaced I think that's what we should do.

If we had to move forward with GoldIron here and inactive I would vote to lynch tho. Because an inactive town is truly so very little help. Scum won't waste kills on an inactive. And we could waste time/investigations on the inactive. I'd rather just go ahead and lynch the inactive and get that out of the way.

The first part in particular interesting as it seems like a potential backpedal is coming on Canik's part. Earlier in the day he believed that a replacement would "fairly often be scum" and he would be more inclined to lynch a complete inactive than not. Why the change of heart so late in the day, Canik?

After Canik's post, the GoldIron wagon changed around a bit with Lachiton and legoboy coming on board and KitKat unvoting. At this point the vote stood at:

Vote Count:GoldIron (4): The Warrior, Canik, Lachiton, legoboyvdlp

Then deadline day came and brought Canik's jump off of a townie bandwagon right before he was lynched:

It would appear that GoldIron is mafia, then and that you both are as well given that you are trying to frantically talk us out of it...

It appears GoldIron is inactive. No idea if he's Mafia or not.. and since SLMK has said he'll search for a replacement I'll be unvoting now. :D *tips his hat*

@iSocialism if you still want to be the hammer here's your chance. o7

Unvote: GoldIron

Vote: No-lynch

This completed Canik's backpedal in my eyes. At first he was perfectly okay with lynching an inactive player even if there was a chance for replacement because it was entirely possible that the inactive person was scum which would mean that their replacement would of course be scum as well. And now on the day that GoldIron was likely to end up lynched (since he was the only real candidate, Canik jumped off the bandwagon approximately three hours before deadline and right before iSocialism cast the deciding vote.

Why the change of heart on lynching a completely inactive player, Canik? And why wait until the morning of the deadline? And why use the possibility of MK finding a replacement as your primary reason for the change when there was nothing ever stated that would indicate that MK had a definite replacement waiting to take the spot?

Was this perhaps done to remove yourself from the lynching of someone you knew was town since it was likely that those on his wagon would be under the microscope the following day?

The came the aftermath of GoldIron getting lynched. A couple people started slightly pointing the finger at the four of us on the lynch of GoldIron. When legoboy tried to defend his reason for voting for GoldIron he was met with this response:

I don't believe that anyone has any explaining to do. In the first place, he was extremely inactive. In the second place he would hardly have known how to best use his role, and after Day 1 he would have just been another VT. It sucks that we have 2 less town, but I think we made the right decision to lynch him, even though he was town.

Just because there was some level of reasoning behind it doesn't mean it was the right decision. Everyone on that wagon gets -1 town point in my book. TW & iSoc get -2 because they're more experienced and were surely very aware that going through with the lynch on GoldIron would probably result in a town death and reduce town's chances of winning.

So let's see.. the four of us who stayed on the wagon (even though we lynched a member of the town) are suddenly receiving scum points from Canik who was on the wagon until the very end, backpedaled, and then used his backpedal as a lame excuse about why he was getting off the wagon right before the lynch.

@The Warrior - You justification for your vote is one of the better ones I'll give you that but still hard to not be suspicious of you when you had a hand in a town lynch. And if the flavor texts means something... maybe you came across Kitkat 11 hours later because you were returning the scene of the crime! Just had to check out your handy-work eh?! hehe nah, I doubt SLMK make it that obvious.Hmm.. so much wine in front of me! What's a mayor to do? *starts drinking*

How is me actually staying on the GoldIron lynch for the entire day any more suspicious than you jumping off at the last second when it appeared it would be a forgone conclusion that he would be lynched?

It would appear that GoldIron is mafia, then and that you both are as well given that you are trying to frantically talk us out of it...

You bring up good points, and are really making me think.  this however is the most curious part.  So he says he is going off the vote since he will be replaced, so there is no reason to lynch him, and then he proceeds immediately to ask isoc to be the hammer, and then isoc did hammer in the vote.  So a reminder: this game mafia can talk during the day.  Isoc says earlier in a post he wants to be the hammer and we all take it as a joke.  then canik leaves the wagon, potentially clearing himself, while leaving a townie one vote away from a lynch.  then a vote is placed by isoc just 30 min before deadline, hammering in the vote, but three hours after canik unvoted.

Consider this theory: isoc and canik are working together.  they see the town eager to lynch an inactive, so they decide to go for him as he will be the easiest D1 kill.  Isoc makes a comment seen as a joke about wanting to be the hammer to eliminate suspicion, but in fact he is planning on being the hammer.  Canik keeps his vote on until the last min, and then removes it, but with enough time for a townie to hammer it in-and if a townie does they can lead the charge to lynch the townie that hammered him in D2, and if a townie doesn't, Isoc is on standby to hammer it in, like he joked about.  And now on D2 Canik puts a vote on ISoc for him being the hammer, but also says he is considering taking it off.  So he might yet again jump off a wagon.  Right now i think its at three votes, with the chance to drop down to two if Canik takes himself off.  And if Isoc is lynched and ends up being scum, Canik has cover, being able to say he started the wagon and would never start a wagon on his fellow scum, potentially convincing people he is town, and if it looks like Isoc is for sure getting lynched Canik can keep his vote on it, knowing his scum partner is gonna die, thus hopefully giving cover.  Ive never been scum in mafia, but in countless Town of Salem games, i can attest that the general scum strategy on a fellow scum for sure being lynched is to make sure the scum vote is on him so people dont wonder why u didnt vote for him.  Im sure a similar strategy is common in mafia as well

idk just my thoughts expanding on TW's

I am still keeping my vote where it is for now, but I would love to hear what canik, and Isoc have to say about this

Wow that's an obvious clue that the whole town missed about Canik. Perhaps because he was leading the charge against wagon many of us overlooked that he infact backpedaled on the very last moment and goaded iSoc to be the hammer. Thank you TW in bringing this point out.

FOS Canik. So let's see what's your reasoning and how much scum points you accumulate based on that :P

Was this perhaps done to remove yourself from the lynching of someone you knew was town since it was likely that those on his wagon would be under the microscope the following day?

"Why the change of heart..."
It was just that, a change of heart. If I were scum I would've stayed on that wagon and I CERTAINLY wouldn't have dared someone else to do it in my place because I'd expect town to still suspect me for being on the wagon for so long then jumping off.  As you are now. But since I'm town I didn't care as much. Personal survival isn't as important to town. No the safest thing for me to do would've been stay on the wagon, like you did.

I'd also like to note that in general I'm the backpedalling type. A curse of having an open mind. :)

"Why use the possibility of MK finding a replacement as your primary reason... ?"
MK said he would start searching when N1 began and I think it was around that time people were signing up for Star Wars & stuff. It seemed very likely to me a replacement could be found during N1. I also changed my mind because although we couldn't be sure we had investigation roles, I figured why not give them a chance. Seemed like the smarter town play so despite it contradicting my earlier push against GoldIron I went ahead with it. Pretty sure I mentioned that at some point because I remember iSoc being like "oh yeah the great & mighty Power Roles will save us!" (to paraphase, it was something like that.)

"Was this perhaps done to remove yourself from the lynching of someone you knew was town... ?"
Already addressed this really. It wouldn't be the safer thing to do as scum. I not quite stupid enough/would have more respect for town than to think "Oh if I unvote at the last moment no one will suspect me! hehe!" Although maybe I'd be overestimating town since it took this long for someone to point out my backpedalling/hypocrisy :P but I would have expected people to point that out and suspect me much sooner. I kept expecting iSoc to use it as a defense. I don't know if he just wasn't paying close enough attention/too lazy or if he was scared to come back at me because it could be seen kind of like a OMGUS or something? I dunno.

About iSoc btw. The reason I'm voting for him now has a lot more to do with his, in my opinion, poor defenses and lack of doing anything but defending than him being the hammer. I've been worried I'm wrong and wanted him to give me SOMETHING that reassured me a bit but nothing. If he is town I bet he's kind of frustrated with me but if he IS, in fact, town, the feeling is gonna be mutual. xD

When Mafia has day talk that doesn't mean they can talk to each other/make hints to each other publically. They can always do that. Mafia day talk means they can talk privately in an off-site chat channel where town can't see it. If me & iSoc were Mafia we'd use that to plan things we wouldn't be hinting in public. Me telling iSoc here's your chance to hammer was just me half-joking, half-calling him on his bluff. (didn't turn out to be a bluff tho, obviously)

I love TW's points, and I'll post my thoughts on it later tonight.

I want to see how solid Canik's backtracking is. Whether it's like, "meh, let's not lynch him no more" or "let's not lynch him and here's why". Whether his reason is valid.

Also I resent the implication I am in love with brewers and Frigid :P

My post about PR will save us. Is from day two, so I don't know where you were going with that. Saying it was combined with your reasoning behind d1. Atleast what I got from that read. As for my weak defense. You don't need a strong defense for a weak offense. Yes I was, a hammer vote. But the true hammer is the constant "iSoc was the hammer, OMG get him." Give me something else to defend.

I don't look too much into day 1 voting patterns this early of a game. I also don't buy it that your were hoping someone, such as myself, would use your backpedaling as a defense.

As for the dibs on the hammer, sorry you took it as a joke. I knew most day one lynches are normally inactive players, and that there will be a discussion, or distraction IMO. About if the replacement was scum. Also from experience, I know that replacement who are scum become an even more powerful player because of the grace given. KitKat and I have a fun mafia game all about that once. So I agree with Canik there, and I slightly will give him creed on being vocal about that.
