I do wonder how the next decade or so will pan out for North Korea, glorious leader III has kept the wackyness to within former "standards", nothing really new came from him, so who knows what evolutions will happen in North Korea. Am more affraid of them going civil war and lashing out on the peninsula.

I'm actually looking forward to the upcoming US-NK talks. Kim Jong Un's missile program is at a point at which he can no longer escalate, so maybe he's looking to cash in some political capital and get some meaningful rewards in exchange for abandoning the nuke program. We'll see

Trump will not do what Bill Clinton did... nor will he do what Bush did, or what Obama did, or what John Kerry did, or what Hillary would have done. Trump will do things entirely different... his way. Trump started talking in the 70's, and never stopped. What happens during a meeting with him can go two ways... you either like him more, or hate him more... but they always leave wanting to be him. I believe the meeting with Trump and Kimmy... if it actually happens... will consist of the fact that NK will denuclearize the Korean peninsula. The question will be to Kimmy how this will be done, and what Kimmy and NK will look like after it is done. Will he be a leader respected by other world leaders and beloved by the Korean people? Will he leave a legacy of prosperity, wealth, and leading his country out of the dark ages? Or will he choose the other option? I believe this will be his choice, and only he can save NK.

Once again I have a hard time understanding your point. Who exactly is annoyed and wanting out? Pretty much everyone is annoyed and wanting away from something. There are people that want to void the Constitution as an outdated relic of the past, and there are people that want to preserve the Constitution, and even restore it's former glory. If you're talking about me... I'm just exhausted with trying to protect people that hate me... I'm trying to protect people from themselves. They really don't think things through or understand the consequences of their desires... but it's like Joni Mitchell said, "You don't know what you've got till it's gone".

I think Donald Trump would walk right into Pyongyang just to prove to the world he's not afraid of anything. It's his handlers charged with protecting him that would have a heart attack, and everyone else that would be angry that Kim will use it as a big propaganda win. My jaw practically hit the floor when I read that last night. North Korea has always had a tendency to agree to curtail their nuclear program in exchange for economic relief, and then immediately go back on their word. But seeing Kim Jong Un step over the border and shake hands with the South Korean President speaks volumes. Something very strange is going on in North Korean leadership and I can't help but think this new, radical approach to seeking peace, may actually be the truth. Maybe North Korea has finally realized even with nuclear weapons in their arsenal they are still severely outmatched in a conventional war. And if you want to deescalate a conflict, why not ask for some concessions to sweeten the pot.

This is all happening so fast. Mike Pompeo sworn in yesterday as the new SoS, I guess Democrats didn't want to get blamed with derailing a peace process. I see North Korea building hotels and casinos all along their coast, and becoming the hot new vacation spot very soon. Capitalism is a wonderful incentive. Although frankly describing the US political divide as identity politics is hilarious in it's own right, in so much as the current US political structure dates back to a political divide created in reaction to the civil rights movement and the end to segregation along with the moral majority coalition in the 80s. The divide exists and continues to exit entirely because the Republican party in the US strongly favors a section of the religious right as the central pole for the big tent along with a handful of lunatic raw capitalists opposed to the very idea of a federal government. Until the Republicans cease to cater to that 10%-20% of the population to the exclusion of the remaining 80%-90%, the divide will continue.

 

 

On topic: the North Korea meeting is boring. while this is the first time this has happened in a while, it's not the first time this has happened. North Korea will demand as bunch of language that the south will never agree too, there will be a release of a bunch of non binding non enforceable mutually signed statements and then we go right back to where we are with north korea trumpeting political nonsense about how the south and the west couldn't agree to "reasonable" terms. Unless something has occurred that already ends NKs nuclear program for the next several years, NK will not denuclearize. If such an event has occurred, that denuclearized state will last exactly as long as it takes them to get the program back up and running. NK is a totalitarian regime kept in power pretty much entirely as a proxy for China and continues to exist on their sufferance. In that regard, NK has little reason to accept long term denuclearization absent an entirely unlikely event such as  joint US and China military action in order to force it.
