I suppose you don't want to read numerous books, journals and essays by an army of Political Scientists and IR experts, so the gist of it is: Whether you see it that way or not, the current international institutional system (from specific organizations with a charter, through treaties to more abstract power dynamics) is still "Western Centric". It was created through hard work and sacrifice by the US and other Western powers post WW2 and the Cold War. It has eroded by much today and badly needs reaffirmed American commitment. Let's just say that another 4 years of Trumpian "America First" where you give the finger to the EU, and your Pacific allies might push the system to a breaking point. With the retreat of the US, the vacuum will be filled by China, and a smaller extent Russia and we'll all be in a lose-lose situation then. To contain these two, the US should be building partnerships, not undermining them. Report
