That was a crazy game.

I didn't peg AKCPLUTO with Falzis and Martino.
I blame EM for voting me (j/k) tongue.gif

Good game...although quite a bit long (3 months?).
Didn't help the town since we got sooooo many replacement players.
It was hard to keep track of posts/comments, etc.

Nice play mafia.

NIGHT ACTIONS


HOW THE GAME MECHANICS WORKED
1. Room System & Rule 5-1 - Note to self: Don't underestimate your players....
The maps were prepared months before the game was voted to start. The basic concept was simple - players would assign themselves to a room every night, and things would work around that. It looked promising - there were fantastic ideas for new powerroles that could operate using the confines of these rules. The original plan, was of course, Rule 5-1, which stated that you could only move so far.
But of course, the townies came up with a strategy I didn't think of - which would, essentially, break the game mechanics and lead to an almost guaranteed win for the town, which could have been resolved by merely not having Rule 5-1 in the first place. But never mind. I had to change things. I scrapped Rule 5-1 and gave the game its 'mystery' mechanic which would, in the first place, have worked. But I couldn't keep the mafia restricted - the likelihood was that the town would still base their plans around this. So I removed all restrictions on the mafia's movements. That, I thought, would give them ample room to work and still let the powerroles I had planned for. Well, you can be the judge of how it turned out.

2. Powerroles - Note to self: Don't let your game start without it being prepped....
For the purpose of using the room system, the town would receive 3 of my 4 newly created powerroles. In this game, EVERY single pro-town member started off the game as a townie, with no special powers at all. Powerroles would be found, picked up as 'items'. These could be found in varying rooms throughout the course of Nights 1, 2, and 3. Each night had a 'Main' powerrole, which was more powerful and could only be found in one room, in one night. Each night also had a backup item - given randomly to a townie if no-one found the main one.

NIGHT ONE
  • Crier - Megaphone - Would let out a shout if anyone entered the room he was in. (Found by CanucksDynasty)
  • Epipen Doc - Epipen - Would act as a doc, but if the mafia didn't target whoever he protected, the target would have a 50% chance of death the next evening.


NIGHT TWO
  • Bulletproof Townie - Bulletproof Vest - Became immune to nightkills.
  • Hazy Tracker - Monocle - Could track someone, but only if they came within an adjacent room / area as him. (Found by Aquinas)


NIGHT THREE
  • Insomniac - Caffeine Pills - Would hear if anyone travelled through a room adjacent to, or in, his. (Found by Narsis)
  • Paranoid Knife Owner - Knife - Would kill anyone who targeted him, apart from the mafia roleblocker (This was decided pre-game to avoid any confusion. Luckily (or not?) this role was never found).


The crier was originally designed as something else - I forget what - and had to be rapidly redesigned when I noticed a fatal flaw in the idea at the start of D1. But I think it turned out OK.

3. Finally - Note to self: It's actually gone half-well?! That can't be right.
I hope you guys have at least had a shot at enjoying this slightly fragmented, inactivity-riddled game. I'd love to hear any criticisms, comments, or questions you have about... anything at all (about MAFIA. I don't know the meaning of life).

When I found the megaphone...I thought it was a great item.
But after a few questions to mole...it had severely limitations.
It only works when someone enters the room.

It would have been great if it worked when someone passes through the room too.
For example...on N2...when I was in Room 6...I could have discovered that SinKon/AKCPLUTO crossed over to kill in Room 9.
But that was not the case.

I like the idea of townies picking up items to become "power roles".
I don't know if I like the idea of picking up items in subsequent days.
This is another limitation for the town as they don't get items/power roles right off the bat.

1. Was just part of the game mechanics. Sorry you didn't like it.
2. This was designed so the town weren't over-powerful from Day one. If used right, in the right scenarios, some of the roles were really very powerful.

Against, this was for balance reasons. Had you have had that role, from night one, you would've been over-powerful.
The mafia played very well, the townies were unlucky and caught up with replacements and the like. Realise, Day 3, even Day 2 in a lot of mafia games is lynch-or-lose. You guys had numbers to your advantage as well. I would have expected a mafia lynch or two in 5 days when balancing.

I like the game. It was a bit tough for townies because of the mystery of possible power roles (hard to second guess) but most games right now that aren't standard will have to be second-guessed pretty hard anyway. But it also became tough for us when we knew of Aquinas' and CD's power roles, which should have been kept as a secret until really crucial, because it limited our choices for N4 kill when Aquinas, CD, and Narsis were grouped in one room. Good thing EM didn't choose, AKC got randomly moved etc.

I think to balance it while keeping the 5-1 rule, the map could be changed so that more rooms are adjacent or aren't totally separated by only 1-2 rooms. Or, allow the mafia movement to be unrestricted but with penalties, 100% safely move into the next room (one move) without being discovered (if there are 2 people in the room), 80% safely move two rooms from where you are (two moves) without being discovered etc.

I think the town should have followed Narsis more emphatically (given his role claim) and make it into a choice between me or AKC.

All in all, a good game that took too long because of inactivity.

Currently the players who are suspicious of me and Falzis believe that you are town. So I would prefer it if you did not vote for CD, unless it is the 4th vote which would get lynch him. The same goes for trying to get EM to vote for CD. I think he will do so by himself, if not then me or Falzis will try to convince him, but you should not be associated with us. So just stay out of that discussion. If they explicitely ask you for you opinion, then you can say that you are unsure and that there is a lot of reading you have to do.

Yes, that could work. But that could also backfire horribly. To be fair, I see no reason to take the gamble. Sure, it's likely that I will get lynched and you could go 2nd, but normally EM should be the third to go down. So let's not NK him. Also, while we would have no reason to NK, neither would CD if he was mafia. NKing EM in his case would indicate that CD's theory is wrong and that could lead to his lynch.

Yes, if I go in to block CD and NK Aquinas or Narsis I will be found out. So, in my opinion, that is not really an option. I also doubt that EM already has the medkit. So far, it seems like the town gets an additional item each night. So tomorrow we may face a doc, but I don't think we face one already.

AKCPluto self sacrificing doesn't seem that great an idea either. Again, it could very well work, but it could also backfire and expose the last hidden scum member.

Instead, I would suggest something else. If I understand Narsis' item correctly, he will detect when someone moves in his room or in one of the adjacent rooms. So if either you or AKCPluto would NK Junk, then all the information we will be giving away is that either you or AKCPluto is scum. Now, we know that both of you are scum, so it seems like a horrible move. However, I think this would perfectly split the town again. Part supporting you(me at least and perhaps EM, though he hasn't been suspicious of SinKon before) and the others AKCPluto. So yes, we will lose a scummember there. But on the other hand, it will also more or less clear the 2nd scum member. Which should allow us to win the game.

A third alternative would be to not submit a NK. That way we would force the town to make the decision without additional information.

On the other hand, if we can NK someone, all it takes is EM to vote for CD and we've won this game.

actually. after thinking it through and making that logic post of CD being townie...i was pretty convinced to vote for one of Falzis/AKC. i just found how CD suspected me odd and unnerving and made me a bit more undecisive...which lead to a mafia win.

so all in all...good game mafia. i hope you enjoy the next one... ;)

Yeah. Good thing EM voted for CD and that Martino and I were both online some time after. When I switched my vote to CD, CD was online and I was afraid people might catch on if Aquinas, EM, and Narsis were online as well.

I was anxiously waiting for Martino to change his vote to CD (I thought he wouldn't because it was precisely 13 mins before he did).

Well...if you voted for ACKPLUTO...I probably wouldn't have given much thought of it.
I would have put you in the bussing mafia along with Falzis and Martino.
I was sure Aquinas was townie.

But my big mistake would be that I would finger EM as mafia.
