  1. Ah yes, Dishonored! Epic music there too. Ok, Time to dedicate a post to Bethesda alone. Dragon fight music 2 - Skyrim https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_gcNzSb0OI&t=3m4s Skyrim is epic all over. However my absolute favorite is the so-called "Dragon fight music 2". I get goosebumps every time. Take me home, Country roads - Fallout 76 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRPeYP6gS-s Original by John Denver, this version was made specifically for Fallout 76. TAKE ME HOOOOME, COUNTRY ROAAAADS! Train Train - Fallout 4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOoaplaAW-Y Say what you will about Fallout 4 (faults acknowledged, it think it's a LOT better than people say it is), but it has some pretty awesome OST as well as standalone tracks. Magnolia's songs (performed by Lynda Carter!) in the third rail are nothing short of awesome.
  2. Agreed. Although, it appears that these particular journals were among the upper echelons of publications in the field of these so called "Grievance Studies". That's pretty telling from where I'm standing.
  3. So, three people wrote a dozen of hoax and deliberately stupid "social studies" and had it published in supposedly prestigious Social Scientific journals. All they had to do was apply the appropriately "Progressive" ideological lingo and the fact that they even submitted a piece that was actually generated by a "teenage angst poetry generator" bothered no one. Atricle: https://www.wsj.com/articles/fake-news-comes-to-academia-1538520950 Essay: https://areomagazine.com/2018/10/02/academic-grievance-studies-and-the-corruption-of-scholarship/ Delightful.
  4. Ok, so maybe not entirely... but still, it's pretty out there... https://www.sciencealert.com/brain-to-brain-mind-connection-lets-three-people-share-thoughts
  5. Awesome tracks, keep 'em coming people! "Hell March 2" - C&C Red Alert 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBOD8qeCBuc So, Lys posted the original HM, which is epic, but since there are 3 versions (one from RA1, 2 and 3), I prefer the one from RA2 "Legacy" - Emperor: Battle for Dune https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xOdsI8oK84 Sticking with Westwood games; man, they had some epic music. This is my favorite one of many from that particular Dune game. PERFECT fit for House Harkonnen "Synthetic God" - Stellaris https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YGXDYWCyoY Moving on to another strategy game, wow. I just love the change of pace in this one and how it starts off one way and then completely changes into something else.
  6. So we all love our games, nothing new there. But there there is one aspect that is often overlooked. There is some epic music in some of these games, that I for one love to listen to on my playlist as well as in-game. What are your favorite game tracks? Post them here with a YouTube link and short explanation on why you like them. RULES: You may only pick ONE theme from a game, the one you like best You may only post 3 themes per postSo here goes: "Town in Chaos" - Darkest Dungeon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma-WJUidpRU DD is a difficult side-scrolling roguelike RPG with a dark and heavy theme, where you control a team of heroes in navigating randomized dungeons. One of the game's features is "torchlight", meaning your heroes fight better in a lit environment, but as light fades enemies become stronger and meaner. The music intensity is also dependent on light levels, it gets more intense and menacing as light dies away. This is battle music from one of the levels "Mechanism 8" - Unreal Tournament '99 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR9kvbXt4tk A hit of pure nostalgia. My friends and I were hooked on this game like crack. I remember the summer LAN parties in my friend's basement, staring at 17" CRT monitors (almost shit my pants carrying it down the stairs from the car - those things were heavy as hell) trying to break the tie in some Capture the Flag at 2 AM with this blasting in the background . "47 in St. Petersburg" - Hitman 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXOg0S-Uqr4 I think this was the first orchestral theme I heard in a video game. As a kid it taught me just how epic that kind of music can be. It's also being performed by the Budapest Symphonic Orchestra
  7. Religions have, for a long period of time, benefited humans by facilitating cooperation among a relatively large number of individuals. It could have been any other shared belief, but no matter it's likely that the net benefit used to be somewhat positive. It has vastly outgrown its usefulness and since by it's nature rigid and dogmatic, it only incites conflict in a globalized world. You haven't read what I said: "As for whether there is a sentient "Grand Designer" of the universe - we don't know. What we do know is that, at present, there is not a shred of evidence that would hint at its existence (the antics of ancient middle-eastern tribes do not count in my book). Until some of that arises, there is no reason to believe in one." What you're missing is a distinction between Negative and Positive Atheism, which is this: Negative Atheism: any type of atheism where a person does not believe in the existence of any deities but does not explicitly assert that there are none. (What I just referenced)Positive atheism, is the form of atheism that additionally asserts that no deities exist. (As I see it this might just as well be another religion) So to sum it up: Were I presented with convincing evidence, I would be ready to accept the existence of a deity. But it just so happens that there is no such evidence, and I very much doubt it would ever come to surface. Therefore, for the time being, the best course of action is to take Occam's Razor to the whole idea until the situation changes.
  8. Exactly. The analogy creationists like to draw is a whirlwind blowing through a junkyard and when it settles "chance" has blown a jumbo jet together. They correctly point out that this is incredibly improbable, but it matters not, because the analogy is a completely false one. The formation of life, and eventually Humans is like a long trek taking billions of years up the slope of a tall mountain. The way is littered with the fossils of the "tries" and "variations" that didn't make it, but died off somwhere along the way. Also, if you look at any living thing closely (Humans as well), you will see that even though its body is highly complex, it's actually full of flaws, or overly complicated "solutions" that any engineer could have designed to me more efficient, durable, etc. Again, I can only highly recommend Richard Dawkins' book Climbing Mount Improbable, and NOT because I want to shove some Dawkins down your throat, but because he does a genuinely good job of explaining how evolution works in Layman's terms. As for whether there is a sentient "Grand Designer" of the universe - we don't know. What we do know is that, at present, there is not a shred of evidence that would hint at its existence (the antics of ancient middle-eastern tribes do not count in my book). Until some of that arises, there is no reason to believe in one.
  9. Also an Atheist like you HackSlash, and I have thought about my funeral too. I'm on the position that they can do whatever they want, it won't matter (I'll be dead after all). I will donate my organs if they can help someone. I will not donate my body to medical science though. I've done medical training at one point in my life, and I don't really want to end up like the "exhibits" that I worked with. But really the only thing I EXPLICITLY don't want is to have some religious cook give a ceremony. Other than that, I'm willing to compromise
  10. Eh, the topic was done anyway. Seen any good movies lately?
  11. Interesting point you bring up with the pregnancies and homicides Lys. There should be more consistency there.
  12. I guess it all comes down to which flavoring you prefer. Funny how that works.
  13. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/pat-robertson-hurricane-florence_us_5b972c04e4b0cf7b0042d9c7?guccounter=1 Disclaimer: I don't like HuffPo, but this is a fun little tidbit, so I thought I'd share anyway!
  14. In theory, but I don’t have that kind of confidence in JJ Abrams
  15. You’re right, the SW Holiday special is absolutely abysmal, but it was never intended to be any more than a cheap filler for TV. Everyone knew it would suck from day one. For me though, The Last Jedi is a francise killer (The C&C4 of Star Wars to give a gaming analogy ), especially of a franchise that I liked, and that makes it far worse. I mean, JJ Abrams didn’t do an awesome job with the Force Awakens, but you could see him building towards something. Then came Rian Johnson and said: “Fuck that, I don’t like any of this, I’m just gonna do whtever the hell I want” and blew the whole chebang apart. It’s almost like those forum games we play where someone writes the beginning of a story, then an other guy continues it, usually in an attempt to derail where the whole thing was headed, then the OP comes on to try to salvage the wreckage, etc. That’s exactly what happened to Star Wars
  16. Wow, this is a tough one. To be honest, I only watch a movie if there is strong evidence that I may like it, otherwise I spend that free time gaming or watching a youtube channel I’m interested in. With that said, I have to mention the Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Rarely have I seen such piss-poor directing, disregard of any story arc, badly developed characters, and glaring polotholes all in one place. Pretty much killed the new trilogy for me.
  17. It also smells like garlic, right (for a brief period of time)?
  18. I completely agree! Zero-impact is a pipe dream that will never be achieved, but that doesn't mean we can't improve the situation. As for fishing gear, yeah, some of it (the worst of it) is abandoned fishing gear, but most of it isn't, but rather single-use plastic items, like plastic bags, straws, bottles, etc. Example: https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-41866046/the-giant-mass-of-plastic-waste-taking-over-the-caribbean The problem with these is that they are mostly household plastic, which is mixed, dirty, difficult and costly to reprocess, and as such most of it ends up in landfills (or the ocean). What we can do, as a consumer is to limit our use of single-use plastic items as much as possible. Some examples: take your own bag when you get your groceries, and don't ask for a plastic bag that you will throw out as soon as you get home. Don't buy another bottle of water, just refill the one you just drank from a water cooler or water fountain. Don't buy the cheap plastic straws next time you have a grill party, buy some washable ones made of glass, etc. The point I'm getting at, is that there is no need to go eco-terrorist, we can all take small steps to decrease senseless strain on the environment at MINIMAL cost and discomfort. Will this solve the problem? No, but if we can reduce the annual 8 million tons of plastic that finds its way into the oceans annually to 6 million, that's a step in the right direction. Now apply this train of thought to other areas of environmental protection, and we're on to something.
  19. An other example of you thinking in black and white. Cc86 says plastic getting into the oceans is bad —> he hates everything made of plastic and wants to carve everything out of wood. Why don’t you try seeing some middle ground, it really is refreshing. But at least you admit that mankind is actually making some sort of environmental impact, and maybe it isn’t all good?
  20. Ok Lys, so you say that you don’t care about data that overwhelmingly supports diestabilizing changes in the climate. What about the increasing amount of plastic garbage floating in the ocean? (For reference: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_garbage_patch) Because that is right there, for all to see. You don’t care about that either, think it’s not real? The roughly 8 million tons of plastic shit that gets added each year is of no concern?
  21. So the reason, Lys, why we’re not debating this topic with you anymore, is beacause we’ve been through all this with you before, with no avail. Whenever the environment comes up in any context, you make the same canned points about progressives, lies, propaganda, world government, etc., even though these have little to do with the simple fact that we -as humans- are slowly but surely fucking up our own habitat. It’s not just “global warming” either, it’s garbage in the oceans, cultivation of superbugs through an excessive use of antibiotics, killing off biodiversity with super-aggressive pesticides and deforestation, etc, etc. You don’t need a PhD in Biology or Ecology to know where this is going: nowhere good. The only question is just how bad it will be, ranging from significant economic and social upheaval coupled with a sharp drop in biodiversity to a near-full extinction event comparable to that of the dinosaurs’. It really shouldn’t even be a political question, it’s a common sense one. What we COULD and SHOULD debate is how do we want to tackle these problems in terms of policy, not whether these problems exist.
