Somewhat Classic Mafia(Game thread)

The town of NotQuiteClassicville was a bit out of the ordinary...well to those that didn't live there. People slept during the day rather then the night, walked backwards(although some walked backwards backwards), and had developed a strange language that even they couldn't understand(and thus never used). Most people attributed these strange behaviors to how the town was founded. It was once the location of a "cracker jack box". Apparently a bunch of the "cracker jacks" escaped into the nearby forest and in their not insanity founded the odd town. Hundreds of years later they lived alone and peacefully...or rather their descendents do.

Although the town was so odd, it was very nice. Crime was next to nothing, and the only recorded violent crime was an assault and battery charge against a visitor in the town. And that was 10 years ago. They lived moderately prosperous lives(although me and you would consider them dirt poor) and tended to shun new things(hence why gas lamps were common rather then electricity).

But this was all about to change. Something truly dreadful was about to happen. Someone somewhere was going to snap...and when they do who knows what's to become of the place?

And that something...happens tonight...well today.

As the sun dawned over the edge of horizon, the citizens of NotQuiteClassicville prepared for bed. Children read their parents stories and kissed them good night. The workaholics packed up whatever it was they were working on and walked backwards home through the emptying roads. A few people, brave or crazy(would being a crazy crazy make you more insane or less?), stayed up well past dawn, working or just playing around.

One such person staying up late finally got tired of sorting through her flowers(she owned a booming flower shop) and the bills(which really were random pieces of paper with no meaning but for some reason the townsfolk remembered something about bills so they pretended those papers were bills but had no idea what to do with them...but I digress) was headed home minding her own business when she felt some serious pain and all went black.

As the sun went down that evening and the citizens awoke, they found a gruesome seen. The flower lady had been murdered! Wait what was murder again? It had something to do with her and blood...oh right death! Oh wait she's dead!!!!!

The Flower Lady, an innocent, yet insane, businesswoman was beaten to death

Rules and roles will be coming shortly...need to make sure they're all written up right first!

Also as a reminder: no talking until Night 1 begins!

PS: if you are confused about the Day and Night thing...Day is Night and Night is Day.

1. CanucksDynasty, the Master, and a simple townie, murdered execution style Day 1.

2. Bastille Hades, the Unorthodox and Strange, and the town's resident Doctor, was hung up to die Night 3.

3. KevinH, the Peaceful Killer

4. Falzis, the Apprentice, and a simple townie, hung Night 1

5. junkahoolik, the Silent Investigator

6. Kaziocore, the Little Japanese Girl

7. AKCPluto, the Punny Guy

8. Theophilos, the Greek Hero

9. Windblade, the Newbie Ninja, and a simple townie, hung Night 2

10. Nerau, the Guy Without a Cool Title

11. Aquinas, the Saviour, and a skilled Tracker, shot then beaten Day 2

12. The Unknown ScoutX

I'm not the mod but traditionally I don't know of a rule requiring a scum to vote.

must have missed that earlier Wind. (although i thought i answered it...maybe not).

anyway no all the scum don't have to vote.

PS: I'm personally very disappointed in Bastille Hades who bandwagons immediately after KevinH votes.

In the games I've modded I've been disappointed by people who simply post "Hmmmm" or "more thoughts later" or "I'll hold my vote for a bit and let you know what I think" - in real life mafia games, I only vote when I'm sure. In this game, where the nights/days drag onnnn and onnnnn I see *no* reason not to vote and switch, vote and unvote, or whatever. It increases the pressure on players, and stimulates dialogue.

Maybe there are arguments against, but I see no reason why not to vote and switch.

But I CAN see how that would make me look more scummy as I'm pushing for various people to be lynched. Eh, I can live with that.

First, we have those that lynched a townie.

FoS: BastilleHades, AKCPluto, Windblade, Theophilos

Second, we have to wonder why CD was chosen.

Is it possible that CD was correct with his vote? I know that scum could easily be framing him but it tips the suspicion meter up a bit on Windblade.

I'm going to disagree with your reasoning here. I don't think the two votes Windblade had would be enough to scare a scum into retaliating like that. It was a "gut feeling" vote. There wasn't any case built and if CanucksDynasty was not night killed we probably wouldn't even have paid much attention if CanucksDynasty hadn't pushed the matter.

My bet is that CanucksDynasty was killed because he is a veteran. He is a good player and the scum didn't want to deal with him. Power role or not he is always and asset for the town.

That said, I am going to toss my vote on Theophilos. He hasn't been around to contribute much. Generally that would not be good enough for me except that he had a vote of Falzis. He had barely anything to say about it. Certainly however I don't admit high strength to the case. It just seems to me that he has been lurking around and found a convient out getting a vote on Falzis for the half majority. Without putting an official hammer down his vote made a big difference that he hadn't been posting about much to analyze.

Vote: Theophilos

He is in the thread now so, considering a good case from Theophilos my vote could swing over to Windblade or anyone else shortly.

Okay, I've got a better idea.

LISTEN PEOPLE

I know at least one person has been PM'ing Narsis about taking over the UNKNOWN role, and while Narsis has been active here said person has heard nothing back. Ergo:

VOTE: UNKNOWN

Why would you vote out the unknown guy? He might be a doctor, and that would hurt the town's chances! I don't want to disrespect Narsis, but historically, I bet that the unknown role has been a doc on a consistent basis when Narsis has been modding. (I remember reading something about meta-gaming, and undermining the mods - I'm 40% sure that what I just did is against the rules or somebody's code of conduct or what is commonly acceptable in Mafia.)

Either way, it's an interesting theory, but I would be more suspicious of Windblade for the aforementioned reasons. I find it to be very interesting that Hades followed Windblade, and even more interesting that Aquinas has not hopped on the bandwagon. Hmm.....

Unofficial vote count - err.

Windblade - me, junkaholik, KevinH

Unknown - Hades, Windblade

Theophilos - Aquinas

Not voting - Theophilos, Nerau, Kaziocore

Please correct me if I am wrong, guys.

Now, out of curiosity, if Windblade gets lynched, and he is a scum, will that make me a likely target for the scum? And if not me, who do you guys think is likely to be executed - again if Wind's scum?

If Windblade is a townie, who do you think the Mafia is likely to nk next?

Unofficial vote count:

Windblade - 3 (AKCPluto, junkahoolik, KevinH)

Theophilos - 1 (Aquinas)

UNKNOWN - 2 (Bastille Hades, Windblade)

Not voting - 3 (Theophilos, Nerau, Kaziocore)

Man, I get abuse for voting no-lynch on day 1 and then we get 2 votes for UNKNOWN which is effectively a vote for no-lynch in my opinion.

If Windblade is shown to be scum, I will then put suspicion on Bastille Hades, since this also seems like an attempt to draw votes away from Windblade.

Windblade could very easily be townie, but I don't see any better candidates. I agree the retaliatory argument about CD's vote is weak and is certainly a WIFOM case: the scum would want to kill CD to make it look like Windblade the townie did it with a motive for killing him.

My other candidates are BastilleHades, AKCPluto, and Theophilos. Other than lurkiness, is there a case to be made?

Why would you defend the unknown, when he's not even a character? I started thinking it as a joke, but the more I think the more likely it seems this was all a ruse, and the unknown is one of the baddies. If he is a non-player character, why would you even care.... unless you had something to lose?

I didn't follow Windblade, I voted to LYNCH him. Get your facts straight. Windblade posted a decent rebuttal, I unvoted.

ACK, I haven't really paid attention to you, but as of right now I'm going to go back and read your posts from the start. Something here doesn't seem right.

If Windblade is shown to be scum, I will then put suspicion on Bastille Hades, since this also seems like an attempt to draw votes away from Windblade.

I think we should get a call from Mod ASAP if Unknown is a character, if someone is controlling him/her, and if yes can we vote for that person. I think it unfair that there be a slot that MIGHT be filled, but we don't know - it screws with the game mechanics.

Mod: Please answer my question - is "unknown" playing? If yes, we can vote for that person, if not let us know so we can focus on the real threat.

Feel free to lynch me, I said when I went after Falzis if I was wrong I would take one for the team. I promise I'm not trying to 'draw' suspicion, and if this UNKNOWN person is not playing, or a non-character, I will switch my vote back to Windblade. Deal?

If Windblade is shown to be scum, I will then put suspicion on Bastille Hades, since this also seems like an attempt to draw votes away from Windblade.

Agreed, Kevin.

I am assuming that unknown is a character, and a mystery role, i.e., doctor. But you are right, if he is an NPC, you are correct, I have nothing to lose, and me questioning you is unfounded.

LOL...wait, I got my post order wrong. Never mind. You voted unknown, Wind ditto. Yes, I need to pay a little more attention, LOL.

Deal, Hades.

I agree with above in as much as it makes sense that if Windblade is a townie scum would want to put the blame for CD on him. ON the other hand if he is scum ... thus he deserves the formentioned FOS.

More to the point there isn't much to go on either way, again putting Windblade in a position to be considered.

@aqunias ... I've posted enough to point to the very few tangible (wrongly or not) "evidence" of something - not sure what that something or who those somethig are. But we are all working with what we have. I really don't have much to decide on ... and making long and empty posts isn't going to help anyone. Suffice it to say I pointed to those that deserved my attention at the time and to those that don't deserve it atm.

BTW, when is the voting deadline again? Is it today? Edit, well, its tomorrow. Or is it midnight, tonight? LOL, I'm confused.

He's not the doctor, I can say THAT for a fact.

Deal, Hades.

Looks like we're on. Now we wait for Narsis....

Hi Hades,

He's not the doctor, I can say THAT for a fact.

Alright. In which case, I just might vote unknown next round. I'm more confident in voting Windblade than unknown right now, but as I say, we'll see...next round, perhaps.

i think the unknown is a simple townie. doubt narsis would have started the game with a important piece like a town power role or a scum missing from the agenda of occupied characters. and i do remember that narsis was searching for someone to play him. which reminds me...

Narsis: couldn't CD or Falzis fill in??

anyway, imo, voting for the unknown is a waist of a vote.

Then why has Narsis not filled the post, when he has people willing to jump in (and I'm sure Falzis or CD would love to, not to mention the person I know has been banging away at him like sonar to get the slot).

Until Narsis responds, I'm suspicious. And I'm not sure how I feel about having an "UNKNOWN" person who could be activated at any time, it kinda goes against my gut on what mafia is.

Hello guys,

I am not sure how many people know about this, but here goes: Narsis and I know each other in real life. We actually go to the same church, and are in the same youth group. On Friday nights, teens from our church meet on a weekly basis, and Narsis was absent. I asked one of my friends where he was, and apparently he is on spring break vacation. Now, March 13th is the deadline anyways, and maybe he'll be back by tomorrow (Saturday) evening, but if he is not back by tomorrow (aprox. 24 hours from this post at about 11 pm Narsis/my time here on the West Coast), we have two options.

Option A: We can postpone the deadline. I would postpone the deadline, at bare minimum, until at least Tuesday, the 16th.

Option B: Someone can take over as an interim moderator to count the votes, and close the night ("day"), allowing the scum to get going with their plotting (which would work out well because if Narsis doesn't get back for a couple days, I would think that his return would coincide well with when the scum finish deciding on who to night, er, day kill). The problem with plan B here is that we have asked if the unknown is an NPC or not, and a couple votes hang in the balance unless we think that the majority have decided to lynch Windblade anyways, in which case, Hades not knowing and our little deal can wait until tomorrow, er, the next night.

Anyways...what say ye?

(As a sidenote, I assure you all that we [Narsis / I] have never exchanged any information about Mafia games, beyond generalities and newbie questions like what certain acronyms mean. I have never used my real life relationship with Narsis to cheat. Period. Nor have I attempted to give myself any unfair advantages that would undermine the integrity or fairness of Mafia games that I have played. Nor do I plan on doing so in the future seeing as how that would be unsportsmanlike. Alright, thanks. I wanted to be clear that I try to play fair.)

Edit...unofficial vote count again

Theophilos (1) - Kaziocore

Unknown (2) - Hades, Windblade

Windblade (?) - Myself ... who else, can someone please remind me?

No Vote (?) - Who hasn't voted as of yet?
