Traitors on the Battlefront

Bombs exploding. Guns firing. The smells of dust, sweat, blood, and tears. This is wartime.

For some reason or another war has sprung up and all you & your squads have gotten called in to fight. The initial invasions and such went extremely well. However, recently you've been losing ground and men...and a lot of them. It seems that almost every time a squad can get into a good position, they get blown to bits or forced back. Attacks, counterattacks, feints, and flanking...none of it seems to work anymore.

And no one seems to be able to figure it out.

Worried that you have traitors in your midst, and separated from a lot of the higher ups, you decide it's time to take action into your own hands and find the traitors.

Rules

(Stolen from mole and edited to my liking)

1. This is game. Play to win; expect to lose. And have fun.

2. No editing or deleting posts.

3. No talking to other players outside the game thread unless your Role PM states specifically that you can.

4. No quoting any PMs from me, including Role PMs. Doing so will get you modkilled. Paraphrasing is OK. If you are worried about something not being ok, then either PM me or just dont say it.

5. Vote for a player to be lynched by using the Vote: Narsis format. You dont need to unvote before voting again, but it is appreciated(especially if you dont vote again right away).

6. Days will last 10 days. Nights will last up to 72 hours, but may be cut short if I get all actions in before then, with a minimum 24 hour night.

6-1. If discussion is lagging, I may impose a shorter deadline at my own discretion. Deadline extensions will happen on request - but will only happen once per day at most, and if I feel there's enough activity to warrant one.

7. A lynch requires a majority (50% rounded down + 1) vote. You can also No Lynch, by using Vote: No Lynch.

7-1. If there is no majority by deadline, only a half-majority is needed. (Majority / 2, rounded up if necessary)

7-2. If there are 2 players with the same amount of at least half-majority votes at deadline, then I will lynch the one who reached that number of votes first.

8. After someone has been lynched, discussion may continue until I can get to the thread and end the day. If you are dead you may continue to post until your death scene is posted. After that point I will only allow a Bah post, and only if you were night killed.

9. Don't use small / invisible font, don't use coloured text(except for mole who is allowed to use orange if he is acting as the super moderator of the forum), and don't use any form of clever encryption or code in your messages.

10. If you haven't posted in 2 days, I'll prod you. If you don't pick up that prod AND post within 48 hours, I'll replace you.

10-1. If you need to be replaced for whatever reason, please PM me, don't flake.

10-2. If you are V/LA, don't rely on me checking the thread / your signature. Please post in the thread notifying me of your V/LA or PM me about it.

10-3. If you replace out, you automatically lose. If you are someone replacing in, whether it counts as a win or loss depends on how long you have been replaced in for.

11. Vote counts will be made whenever I feel like it(or it is asked) and will be done in a separate post.

13. I hope it isn't necessary, but any modkills will negatively effect the rule-breaker's faction in some way which I see fit. If you are modkilled, you lose, no matter how the game ends.

14. I can change, add, or edit rules as I see fit. I will notify players in-thread if this happens.

15. I am not perfect. I may have got something wrong. I may have missed a rule out. Let me know, ask me questions, but don't abuse my mistakes.

15-1. To get my attention in-thread, use the MOD: <Your message> format. Or, y'know, you could PM me.

Special Rules

1. In this game you are fighting over a battlefield. The more posts you make in thread with applicable content(determined by me), the more your side advances against the opponent.

1-1. Double posts(or triple posts etc) will only count as a single post.

2. As such, this game does not have traditional win conditions. Each side wins when they move a predetermined amount of space across the battlefield. (and yes it is balanced and fair)

3. Mafia post counts will be multiplied by (# of townies) / (# of mafia).

4. Any third-party roles will not affect the # of posts for either town or mafia. However, it may play a part in their own powers(if they have any) or win condition.

4-1. Power roles(if there are any) may or may not be affected in a similar way by their post #.

5. The amount of ground controlled by each side will be updated at the start of every day. Note: post numbers will not be revealed, only the percentage of ground each side controls.

6. When a player dies, the amount of posts they were contributing to their side is removed.

7. Due to the inclusion of this mechanic, a side may win before, or after, where they normally would. (ie. mafia may still lose even if they have more then 50% of the remaining players)

8. If you have any questions regarding this mechanic, just ask. I may, or may not, answer it.

It was a strategy that would have worked in favour for the town.

People who ignored a winning strategy usually ends up on my suspect list.

No, it wouldn't.

However, we're never going to agree with each other. Shall we move on?

We don't really know who is scum and there is more downside than upside to "randomly" killing somebody off.

Okay, creative you are. I'll give on that one. :P

That's why I have a no-lynch vote though, at least for the moment. I'm not much for the random right now, though once again I have a couple ideas... for different reasoning than ya'll have. I'm actually not too sure mole is scum, but then that's just a gut feeling I guess.

Track me down a shovel, will ya? It's really a pain doing it with my hands. But, really, why's that? Because I think Narsis is a competent mod?

No, it wouldn't.However, we're never going to agree with each other. Shall we move on?

I also think Narsis is a compentent mod...so we'll just leave it at that.

We probably won't see eye to eye since I've got it in my head that you're mafia.

So yeah...let's agree to disagree.

It could be that I'm reading too much into KevinH's post and maybe seeing (or wishing) something there that really isn't.

It's happened to me in past games.

However, several people have claimed to see the hint as well...so maybe I'm not totally off my rocker.

Or maybe we're all just nodding our heads to satisfy your claims. I've seen no such hint I simply know what KevinH expects us to follow through.

I'm doing my best to advocate the best townie strategy.

I'm sure there are well-meaning townies that want to lynch now but I want them to acknowledge that 2 mis-lynches means the end of the game whereas a no-lynch and a mis-lynch means one more chance (with more information).

Perhaps...or perhaps they do see what I see.

Not everyone is claiming that so you would have to think why would they?

As for you...

Maybe you're townie that hasn't seen the hint.

Or maybe you're mafia that doesn't know.

No it isn't : \

Sheesh...I guess you were the only one to see the same hint as I did.

In all honesty, I did not read past the third page, since I was pretty sure I saw what you were referring too. Anyway, lets just say his example there was well chosen.

I can guess what you are saying.

So I will continue to believe that you are townie.

I do acknowledge that but I disagree with the timing of your no lynch. Having an even number of players is in the disadvantage of the town since the game will end one day earlier than with an odd number. So in that regard we could go for a no lynch. However, I have always felt that the no lynch should come at the time of the Lylo situation. There it forces the mafia to kill one more players narrowing down our suspect list before we must make the final decision. However, we could also have a doc. If we lynch today and he saves someone tonight, we will end up with an odd number of players without having to do a no lynch. So in my opinion the no lynch strategy due to an even number of players should only be used as a last resort. If we have no confirmed scum and we are at lylo, we can give our cop one more night or we will at least force the mafia to reduce the number of suspects by one. But until that time we should try to lynch scum.

However, I have always felt that the no lynch should come at the time of the Lylo situation. ... However, we could also have a doc.

I don't want to lose townies so that our odds of guessing correctly later are improved.

I hope we have a doc and that he is successful (several times hopefully!)

Nevertheless, we have a 70% chance of picking a townie if we lynch now and no real information to reduce the chances. After a night-kill and a new battlefield, we'll have better chances with a lynch.

I stongly disagree with a lynch now and don't lynch Day 2 strategy.

Maybe it's the alcohol talking....(I'm pretty drunk right now)...but KevinH is kinda making sense.

The difference in this game is the battlefield compared to other games.

I'm not sure if the info can benfit the town much since everyone has posted according to their own agenda and not to a specific plan.

(this took 5 minutes to post).

:drinks:

lol drunken posting

and i do agree with that

if they were posting acording to a plan we would know more than what has currently happened

Deadline is tomorrow.

OK. I agree that I'll get more information than normal through a NL, and since we're not going to achieve a lynch before deadline, let's give this a shot.

Right, you just went from voting KevinH for voting no lynch to voting no lynch yourself. You are really not helping your cause.

Let's say I've reconsidered. I'm willing to try this out a few reasons, none of which I'm going to share for... a few reasons which are different to the first few.

My actions certainly appear scummy to some of you.

Indeed, there's nothing I can say to rebut them - I did what I felt like at the time that would help the town.

- I stated my confidence in there being no third parties based on the battlefield being 2-way, and my knowledge of setups.

- I opposed the midday plan because I thought it wouldn't work. You should know this one by now.

- ONE of the reasons I switched to No Lynch because the maths honestly made sense about when we'd be losing. I thought I'd give it a go. I voted on principle that Day 1 no-lynching is always anti-town. Maybe I was wrong, but I hope to god I'll live to find out. And to be quite honest, I hope I'm proved wrong so I can go back to voting for KevinH without remorse for it.

Now, I'd like to ask you something - if I were scum, or in any way hostile to the town, would I really be so stupid to do such things? To blatantly state my confidence in there being no 3rd parties? To oppose a plan which the majority of the town were for? To switch my vote to a KevinH-style no-lynch? I have done very little apart from attract attention today, and I've drawn the flak for it.

If I die, I hope you realise that different does not necessarily mean scummy - and I know you'll really regret it. Not just a little bit. But quite a lot.

Kaziocore, ChaosHawk, and Kasabian: Choosing to leave your votes where they are is choosing to see Molestargazer lynched at deadline.

Nerau, CanucksDynasty, ccabal86, and Martino: You can always vote for Molestargazer tomorrow.

Wow, my leadership style must have improved.

I think we have to disregard mole's last post in the count. :)

Here are some thoughts in case I get night-killed.

In this game more than any, if CD is alive on Day 2, he's probably scum. I say this not for the normal reason that scum would kill off a veteran unless he one of their own, but that scum would want to kill off the highest townie post count. However, look at the battlefield and if the townies are winning, then CD is probably leading the charge as a townie.

Mole summed up the case against him nicely and I'll respond to his question "would I really be so stupid to do such things?"

One word: WIFOM. I guess that's an acronym rather than a word but you get the point.

With the battlefield posted, look at the percentages and consider that 3 scum have to have total posts to reach their post count. If I'm dead and CD's alive, it might be possible to conduct an analysis that concludes if CD is scum, then the other two scum would have to be the lowest post-counts. It would be safer to test that case by lynching the lowest post-counts rather than CD.

If there is a cop, I would suggest investigating someone in the middle of the post-counts. It won't help to get an investigation back on someone that was night-killed. If there is a doc, I would suggest protecting someone with a relatively high post-count.

Since no one is agreeing with me to lynch the lower/inactive posters then I'll follow through to save a potential townie. Next time maybe....
