yeah i've thought about this as well and it's the one area that i'm really not sure can be completely optimized for the town. if everyone watches everyone else, then it means that nothing will happen during the night...which means the game is essentially in a permanent stalemate, which isn't a very fun game.
i would think the best strategy is to have one person from each room be pre-designated to search the room(or perhaps use an item that may help catch scum...but only if it's been revealed in the thread ahead of time etc.). the other two then watch each other. so unless scum are lucky enough to be among those searching, there will be little they can do. and even if they are the person among those searching...well we'll see damage was done to a player and thus will pretty much know without a doubt who is scum.
it is possible scum may know some things that we dont and could use them to get a bit of an edge by this strategy...but speculating on what they have at this point is useless and for the first night i think that this strategy is a good one.

The problem with designating only 1 person to search the room holds a risk though. If the designated person happens to be scum, he may give us false information. I suggest we all search our respective rooms on night 1, share the results.
that has the exact same problem as if the 1 person is scum. scum can easily lie about what they find. also, things that the town may find they may not necessarily want to reveal right away.

This night, we should spread out and search all the rooms for hidden stuff. Then on day 2 (remember, scum can't move or "night kill" during the night in this game) all the vigilantes should publicly reveal their identities. We could then clear those players of any suspicion since they can confirm eachother's status. During the night, these people AND ONLY THESE PEOPLE should band together in a room wich we, as a collective, deem safe. This way, the mafia simply can't get to them in any way and we can keep the town's "core" safe while we speculate.

I think the scum will attempt to deliver damage. That is certainly possible.
... At night when you are in the bathroom you can submit the action 'use: hidden explosive' to use the detonator. All players in the room will receive 2 dmg"

- Attack Y: Attack player Y. You can either use your bare hands to attack or use a weapon you have found/were given at the beginning of the game
I think anybody dealing damge should come under suspicion. If enough townies agree, we could all attack at night and get the same effect as a lynch.

Yes, but the scum have to physically be in the same room to deliver that damage, unless there is some sort of remote-control device (like an explosive with a remote detonator) hidden somwhere. Any such device however, should be found when we search the rooms on night 1

problem: there is only a chance that an item may be found; it is not 100% guaranteed.
as for revealing the identity of the vigs...i dont think that'd be a good idea. like you said there could be some sort of remote control device or similar. additionally, it would prevent what is perhaps the town's greatest asset from being able to do anything since they are all grouped together with no possibility of being able to attack scum.

We won't even know if a person is lying because it could only be
that the person was unlucky (remember that finding something is not 100%).
I'd say let everyone search.
If we chose only one person,

Rather than let the scum know what we are doing, I think each player should choose to either search or watch but not let anybody know the choice beforehand.
it still allows scum to get away with things though as they could easily lie about what they did.
@ Kazio: it was already mentioned that doing that would most likely result in a stalemate, meaning neither side could win and resulting in an extremely boring game.
