TMCWPTI #3 - Game Thread

Surprise surprise, the day isnt over yet! And only 5 pages for all the time I was gone...? Eh, well it was slow at the start too.

I dont have the time now to go through and read all the posts, but I'll try for that later tonight if I can. I did a quick skim and my overall impressions are:

1) Ouch beebs on the deletion

2) @Tracker: Less RP is sadly probably a good idea though I enjoy a good read sometimes

3) I'm not sure about the FoS on CD; I need to look at that more in depth but it looked like you were doing it because now he's saying no-lynch vs his usual pro-lynch stance. I myself am usually pro day1 lynch, but per my earlier post I dont know how useful it is with a mostly-inactive crowd - point is, changing your stance based on the situation is not itself suspicious. There's no harm in keeping a close eye on CD though; he's a tricky one!

4) Has everyone talked? Is anyone 100% inactive the whole extended day til now? I didnt see a list about that.

1) It's a shame. Its okay though, I hadn't really done anything worthwhile.

2) I am a huge RP fan, but it doesn't seem the way this forum runs things. I'd totally be down for an all RP game or something, the mechanics of mafia can get pretty shallow to discuss sometimes.

3) I guess I can't be to sure either. I think a drastic shift could be compelling, but I would have to go on what you all have to say on it. If it is a 180 enough that it seems really strange, its better than nothing if we vote. Otherwise, its pretty thin.

4) Yourself, Nerau and Angel seem to be the most inactive. I think you've all spoken a bit. Angel, being the least active, could potentially be considered an inactive player. I'm pretty sure he is the most inactive anyway and has, if I'm not mistaken, a vote on CanucksDynasty. So, as far as I can tell he showed up and voted and we haven't heard from him since. Although, I could have missed a post somewhere.

Depending upon how the rest of today and tonight goes I might consider a second no lynch. But with 2-3 targets to kill, two no lynch days in a row might be dangerous to indulge in. At the moment I'm thinking that we should no lynch today and start the mass hysteria game tomorrow.

What do you guys think of CD's option

of No Lynching two times?

Unless we learn absolutely nothing after night 1, I probably wouldn't support a second no lynch. As soon as we have something, we should act.

Yes I have only posted once before now to vote CanucksDynasty but I have been reading your posts. I don't post because I have little to contribute to this at this point. I have never played anything close to mafia before so I've been quietly watching the "masters" work.

Lurk

I've been playing some mafia games on ODN forums (with Choashawk). Slightly different rules but most are the same. They always "no-lynch" and play follow the cop.

It seems to help. As long as the person the cop investigates is not the godfather and is not nightkilled. And the cop survives long enough to tell us his findings.

Well, are we waiting the day out or voting the no-lynch in. I'd rather just vote the no lynch route if that's the plan anyway. Mafia could just keep their mouths shut and stay safe pretty easy at this point. I'd vote for it now, but if there is more relevant info to be had I don't want to give the mafia and easy way of shutting the day down early.

Managed to get back from work before the day ended. Ive still got some unpacking/errands to do tonight, but the day's about to end anyway... and there doesnt seem to be much being said.

We got at least SOME voting information to work with, though dont know how useful it'll be since anyone can deny it later. If there'd been more conversation and general activity I'd be happier pushing for a lynch so we could hold people to whom they voted for... but it's been a fairly dead first day so no-lynch is the best option. No strong pushes from anyone except that one FoS on CD - will be worth watching them both.

CD's dual no-lynch concept is interesting, but I am a little leery of waiting for TWO days unless we know we are gaining additional investigation information on BOTH nights. The last two games we've had a one-shot guard instead of a repeat-use cop; hard to follow when the ability only has one use. I dont want to immediately jump to nolynch tomorrow and deprive us of what would seem the first meaningful (day 2) votes. Heh... I'm realizing now that I've never played in a mafia game with a 'normal' cop, so I'm not entirely sure how those dynamics play out.

We can see how things pan out after we see who mafia kills I guess.

As the sun appears through the cafe windows the occupants slowly get up and brush the floor dust off of their wrinkled clothes. The realization slowly comes to their weary brains that one of their companions is missing. CanucksDynasty is soon found under some heavy crates after being crushed to death in his sleep. The townspeople checked his pockets where they found nothing of interest. He was just there to grab a quick frappe on his way to work.

CanucksDynasty, CUSTOMER, has been killed.

Day 2 begins now. Deadline is July 25th.

As the sun set on the horizon, Tracker wished that he could see it through the ominous dark clouds that hung overhead. It was still a mile to go to is apartment, and without any form of cover he risked his phone and watch being ruined by the rain. It appeared that unless he wanted to replace both he would have to spend the night. What a way to start his vacation... trapped in a café with a bunch of strangers who took their make believe a little too seriously. Tracker took a loaf of bread from his groceries to use as a makeshift pillow, and within a few minutes managed to fall asleep.

The voice was clear and soft. "Tracker..." He could not determine who it was or where it was coming from, but it was comforting. It was like that of an old friend. "Come back to me Tracker. We can be together again." It felt so good to simply listen to the voice speak and not think about it. "You don't need anyone else but me. Just come back to me, and never let go of me again..." Tracker could feel the warmth in his hands as he attempted to embrace this voice, and shortly thereafter the warmth spread throughout his whole body. He mused that this is what paradise must be.

Then Tracker woke up from his dream. It was lighter outside now, so the sun was most likely trying but unable to reach him now. But that was not what caught his attention. First, he was standing up instead of laying down on his roll of bread. Second, he was... oh no...

He was drinking a cappuccino. The demon had finally won; he had given in when he consciously couldn't resist. He got down on his knees to scream at the cruelty of fate.

"WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-"

*Sip*

"-HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?"

This woke the rest of the patrons up (sans one hockey fan, not like he noticed), but he didn't really care about them anymore. He had his cappuccino now, and he would never leave her again.

Sorry CD. It's strange though that they killed someone who wasn't above suspicion. So that leaves me with two thoughts.

o) CD was on to something. I don't think CD publicly fingered anyone as Mafia very strongly, so this seems unlikely.

o) We were on to something and killing CD was an attempt to distract us. Also seems unlikely given how Day 1 played out, but it could be possible I guess.

Any thoughts?

I am impressed it wasnt me this time :P ( thats the going joke :P )

It seems a veteran is always targeted as I believe there guessing hoping to get lucky

No correlation as it appears

I think they killed CD because he's a veteran of this game.

Any other reason must be just be an added bonus.

Ouch that they got CD - that was a risky move on their part, since CD is a likely candidate for a doctor (if any) to protect on night 1.

And sadly, this is the downside to no-lynch on day 1; with no strong accusations thrown or votes cast, we have no information to correlate with in figuring out WHY that CD was targetted. Kazio's got it right I think; they took him out as a veteran, not because it affects the voting/suspicion scheme in any way.

It's late and I need sleep, but we're going to have to decide what we want to do today. I'm largely against the second no-lynch unless we REALLY have no info - I'm hoping a cop is going to share information with us that will at least give us a few candidates to consider.

Tracker, I very much enjoy your RP posts, I think I'll give it a go. I've had some RP experience myself. Maybe it will catch on, or maybe it will just be fun for us. Either way, i think it will add something over and above game mechanics in this game of ours. I'll try and convey my opinions and thoughts clearly, if it seems like people aren't actually reading my posts because of the flavor elements, I'll try and be more clear in additional non rp posts or skip them all together, as I wouldn't want my fun to write me out of the game.

His faced turned hot as he looked through the crowd of his fellow townspeople. It wasn't because of the dead body laying crushed and mangled under the few remaining wooden planks; he had seen death before, even deaths more gruesome than this one, nor was it because a friend had met his fate, for that had befallen his friends before. Instead, this sudden rush of blood to the head came in freight. Though the death was surely tragic, it didn't take more than a second for thoughts to turn in his mind. 'The killer is surely amongst us', he thought, covering his face and turning away BeeBs' mind began to reel. 'Could I be next' he shuddered to think, 'Will I be implicated" his mind dragged on full of questions. Though he knew that this was selfish considering the circumstances, this town was suspicious enough to warrant some selfishness. With a deep breath he tried to act casually. 'Alright', he thought as he tried to psyche himself up, 'the authorities can get to the bottom of this, we'll need to follow their lead. Certainly, we can trust them, though they might not break their cover so willingly if they suspect these deaths to continue...' He began force himself to think of other things, remembering to act natural. By this time he had made his way to the counter, obviously trying too hard to remain calm, he jumped a bit when the barista asked him for his order. Just as he was about to console himself in a cafe mocha, he heard it.

His ears were left ringing from the sound of a deep yell resonating from the back of the coffee shop. His head snapped back with urgency to find its source, this anomaly in the otherwise quiet coffee house was enough to upset his already less than convincing facade. Though it was not a cry of pain that broke the quiet remorse in the coffee house that morning, it was surely one of heartfelt remorse and sorrow. Perhaps, someone he could trust, at least he hoped. 'Certainly someone feeling this much loss could be trusted. Right? Right.', he convinced himself. With a bit of confidence and the comfort that he might have found someone to console in within this new town, he began to approach Tracker. He noticed something though, his eyes seemed lost, almost drowning in his coffee. Either he had failed at overcoming his caffeine addiction or something else had struck him. It was not tears the lingered in his eyes, but a puzzled curiosity that made BeeBs think a little more about this other patron. He wondered if there was something more there, something beyond a mere wail for loss. Though not typically superstitious, maybe he was just shaken enough to fall victim to its comforts this morning, or maybe it was simply because he had missed his chance to order his mocha. Either way, he looked into Tracker's eyes, 'could there be something more to the pensive stare, something beyond the daydream he had clearly been lost in, something like... a vision of CanucksDynasty's death' he wondered. Finally regrouped enough to order and enjoy his mocha, he tried to dismiss his superstitious intuitions, but something he resolved to keep in the back of his mind. Tracker might know something, a valuable ally or a dangerous enemy.

It was time to get down to business. What had CanucksDynasty been working on? Why would he be killed? What did he know? Why him? All these questions and more needed answers. Thankfully, he overheard others in the shop already searching for the same answers. Though he couldn't place the time CanucksDynsaty has actually said it, he remembered some whispers about a plan to dissolve hasty lynches of fellow townsmembers. Was he on to something? Maybe, just maybe, the mafia didn't want this to happen. He reasoned that not lynching ourselves would significantly hamper the reign of terror the mafia hoped to instantiate. Maybe that bit of altruism was exactly what the mafia wanted to squash. BeeBs finished his last drips of coffee hoping to find if others had come to the same conclusion.

However, in the end, BeeBs was left with little. CanucksDynasty was a respected member of the town, or so he had heard. It might all just be about chaos. However, if CanucksDynasty's spirit should live on, it would seem to push us towards finding some good reason to lynch a fellow townsman and not let the hysteria get the better of us. If that is why CanucksDynsaty died, all the members of the town should be glad to meet such a fate, or so he hoped...

Now somebody knows something.

We don't know what it is, and maybe that somebody wants to wait and get even more information before disclosing any of it.

Nevertheless, I think we need to lynch today. Just to get things started:

Not for any particular reason other than I looked for everybody's most recent post and his was the oldest.
