Holy Duck Dynasty

Featured Replies

I don't think I've seen so many status's on my facebook about people posting their opinions about the recent suspension of Phil from Duck Dynasty for his comments on gays.

I don't get how anyone is surprised when someone asks their opinion on gays to someone who is known to be very religious and the bible talks about being gay is a sin.

Miley Cirus? Spelled that ratchet hoes name correctly? Anyway she can prance around on stage half naked while groping herself and making obscene gestures on live television in front of millions of kids and the likes but oh thats just freedom of expression, she trying to find herself.

This Phil Robertson? Never seen the show, expressed his religious beliefs and is chastised for them and banned from A&E.

Welcome to America.

On the same page as you guys. Phil can say whatever he damn well pleases.

They don't need angry groups demanding they fire anyone.

If people don't like it... they will stop watching the show. This action just insures people will stop watching A&E.

I mean really... how many gays do you think watch Duck Dynasty?

A&E are losers.

I don't share his views, but I think political correctness is taken too far these days.

Playing devil's advocate, Miley Cyrus thrusting her crotch into the consciousness of our youth is different from singling out a group of people whose behaviour you don't undertand and calling them sinners/unnatural.

Oh Miley Cyrua was just a quick off the top of my head example. Alex Baldwin likes to threaten people on the streets and provoke violence even going as far as inflicting bodily harm. Called his daughter a dike pig but rewarded with own tv show on MSNBC after the fact.

Marten Bashier, MSNBC. Says on live television that he would sht in Sarah Palins mouth. Awarded the option to resign or stay on the show, chose to leave after two weeks and still gets a pay check from MSNBC.

More people follow the bible than there are homosexuals in the world, leaving more to believe its wrong than right.

But in the end ole Martin Bashier wanting to load up Sarah Palin's mouth with sht or Phil telling us all what the bible states, its their freedom of speech. They have the right to voice opinion and say what they please, is it right? Maybe not but oh well fags a fag.

Totally agree, Phil's a funny dude. His opinions don't change that for me.

Orson Scott Card, the author of Ender's Game, the movie just came out- Card wrote that states should keep laws prohibiting homosexual behavior on the books “to be used when necessary to send a clear message that those who flagrantly violate society's regulation of sexual behavior cannot be permitted to remain as acceptable, equal citizens within that society." - now, that was a while ago, but that didn't stop Summit Studios from picking up his movie, or him being called one of the best science fiction authors of all time. People still petition his stuff.

tl:dr - C'mon, a dude can't have an opinion? Gimme a break.

It just seems certian people are singled out for different behavior. One man can say one thing and another basically the same thing and only one gets the noose.

Favoritism and even political or religious standpoints play a role in who makes the news. Bias media are to blame along with those that point the finger at so called evil doers.

I also enjoy hearing homosexuals calling themselves a race, lol. Sorry but its just a sexual preference not a race.

NASA please fine a liveable planet soon so the human race can maybe start over and weed out the idiots.

This is definitely true. There are glaring inconsistencies.

Not to dish on a show I've never seen. Why is it "holy". But yes reporters love to ask, "what do u think of gays?" or "Do u think a marriage should only be between a guy and a girl" Especially if they think they'll get, "I think being is a sin" or "Yes, I think marriage should be between a guy and a girl". Why, draws huge amount of attention to there interview to make there story BIGGER then it actually is. Period. Where its blown out of proportion. while this is one person opinion, something else get bad rap for it. Witch is dumb. Then, the gays get up in arms about it. (Btw, I think its ok to be gay(I have friends that are, a guy who likes guys, and a girl who's bi), have no problem if they leave me out of it, but I think marriage should be between a man and women). Now I just hope IRON don't get a bunch of criticism cause I said that. Just putting this out there.

Good riddance of that bigotted, religious, nutcase.

Off course everyone is entitled to his opinion, but the deeper feeling of those who still believe in fairytails was once again clearly shown.

And to be honest, that same feeling is expressed now here as well.

Why do these people feel threatened by homosexuals?

Now that we are touching raw nerves, what about that so called 'War on Christmas'?

I've come to observe that many heterosexual males (females, I have no idea about) in our society are conditioned to have an aversion to the idea of it. This aversion is of a nonreligious nature. Combine that with half-hearted belief in a book that says it's wrong, and you get a great deal of behavior that people justify with the Bible despite the fact that the behavior contradicts the teachings of said book. So, more or less, people feel a particular way, and use religion as a justification to treat people badly.

People are free agents and the only way for "religion" to really happen is divine intervention. Short of that, you've just got people reading out of an ancient text who ignore all the context and try to make their lives fit into it, rather than mold their lives around it. I'm afraid that many nominal Christians just believe what mom/dad/preacher dan told them to believe, and not what the Bible has so say on the matter.

So now I'll stop speaking in the third person. I am what I am, and I have a fervent belief in the Bible, and in everything that it says. I've been with the people who just slur and hate for no reason, and I've been with the people who take a moment to consider the situation. My attitude toward the subject may be different from someone who is nonreligious, but the book that I read from doesn't give Christians the right to be assertive toward anyone about sin. Someone who doesn't believe is not condemned for individual deeds, only the lack of belief, and someone who does believe doesn't answer to any person, only God (yeah, I'll capitalize that word). Regardless of what people are really doing out there, the "instruction manual", if you will, says that people who claim Christianity are supposed to persuade people to become Christians also -- not spew demagoguery about why everyone else is wrong. Telling you what you've done wrong and how you need to change is a job that the Bible does not delegate to individuals. So, yes, I am persuaded that being a homosexual does not please God. Doesn't give me the right (or the desire) to hate on people who are. The fact that Christians sin at all after having believed is worse in Biblical terms than most things that someone who has not believed can possibly commit. The point of the religion that Jesus taught was that not one person was clean, and that He came to fix that problem. The last thing a Christian should be doing is spewing hate to drive people away from the very thing that is supposed to help them. Sins don't go away until after conversion. Conversion is the catalyst for a person to stop doing things contrary to what the Bible says. The deeds of a person who does not believe should be of the very least concern to a Christian. Seems like this has been all turned around, but I'll just shut up now...

tl;dr, not all religious people fear/hate people who disagree with them. In the case of Christians, that's actually the opposite of what Jesus taught them to do.

(Please take all this with a grain of salt, I tried to write keeping in mind that the vast majority of you do not believe that there is any kind of veracity to this book called the Bible. I tried to focus on principle, and on how those people who claim to believe in it should be behaving.)

(Disclaimer. I've only seen headlines and whatnot, no idea what the man actually said. Also, if anything I've said has offended anyone, I strive not to do that, so please do let me know.)

(Also, JC, if you happen to read this post, yes, my feelings have changed tremendously since I lashed out at you. And again, I'm sorry.)

I don't see why people pick sides on the issue when A&E is an outspoken supporter of the LGBT movement and removed Phil for the sole reason that he was a PR liability. It wasn't really how he said what he said, it was how he put them that was crude not PC enough for A&E to feel comfortable having him speaking out this way. In the end it was all to save money, and the added controversy gives the show more attention. I'm sure that, if there's money in it, they'll put him back on the show depending on the side most people pick.

Makes me sick to think of how people see this as religious persecution when it's just a private television channel deciding what works best for them PR-wise. Fox News'll throw a newscaster off if he or she is a socialist, I just see this as an example on the other side.

Now I don't condone people getting offended at this at all, everyone needs to be more confronted by different viewpoints, so that they understand their side the only side, and that others often think differently. But at the same time, I guess that a private cable TV channel really isn't the best place to get that.

*sigh*

A&E had every right to do what they did. Phil is their employee, and, like it or not, his commentary is a potential PR nightmare for them.

That said, Phil can believe what he wants. Doesn't mean I have to accept it, or can't ridicule him for it.

This just all ties into my belief that all organized religion does is divide, not unite, and is a detriment to us in the long run.

The bible is a 2000+ year old story book. That's all.

A "divide" that you may see between religion and non religion is usually perpetrated mostly by extremist religious groups that often give people a bad perception of organized religion.

I am a Christian. I admit that at times I am not as tolerant as I should be of everyone. I am sinful unfortunately and ask for forgiveness many times daily. At the same time, having God in my life makes me want to strive to be "Christ-like" even though I will always fail miserably.

The Bible is much more than a 2000+ year old story book my friend. It is a 2000+ year old history book. The emphasis is important.

*sigh*

I agree with everything you say, but I try my best to not see religion in a negative light. At one point it sought to unify cultures. The Crusades for example it was a tool that brought most the Christians together and compelled them to fight for their country without any pesky 'morals' holding them back. (Though they did commit heinous atrocities as well and that's bad, but a huge boost in morale and ferocity)

That and also I, as an evolutionist, see that most religious laws have at least some modicum of reason to them. If their culture didn't have traits favorable to their success or wellbeing, they'd die out or be wiped out by other cultures. Things that made sense at the time. Of course a lawbook from 2000 years ago is irrelevant in modern day, it's a fascinating study to look at from an objective light to try and grasp the reasoning behind those 2000+ year old laws.

Other than that, I totally agree with you about everything (and to an extent the religious thing, as great unity of one culture leads to mistrust of another) Most my Facebook friends list just picked a side. Atheists saying someone was finally cracking down on all that hogwash. Christians saying that asking an old Christian man his views on homosexuality and race was a bad idea and that he had a right to free speech outside his show. (to a degree I believe in both sides) While I like watching conflicts between two opposing viewpoints, it seems to me like the answer is usually somewhere in between.

That's a Lie. You obviously don't watch Fox News. I do... and I have done so pretty much 24/7 since 2003.

There has been 2 cases of Fox News firing show hosts for their public statements.

Edie Hill, former host of "Fox and Friends" was fired during the 2008 Presidential campaign for remarks made about Barack and Michelle Obama fist bumping before a campaign speech. She called it "a terrorist fist bump" and was simarily fired.

John Gibson host of "The Big Story" was fired in 2008 when Heath Ledger died. He called him a "weirdo with a serious drug problem" and people went nuts... Ledger was a loved and respected actor and the cause of death had not even been determined.

No one has ever been fired for being a Socialist, Progressive, Democrat, Gay, or even an employee of a former President... (that was a joke). Please educate yourself before you talk about things you clearly know nothing about.

This is a fantastic post, and I agree completely with every single point you've made. A real Christian doesn't condemn anyone for what they do or don't do, nor do they treat anyone with anything other than love and respect. Bravo, sir.

In other news, the reason I've seen two or three episodes of that show is because it highlights (read, dramatizes) a very real culture and lifestyle here in America. How the hell do you get rich off of duck calls???

Biggest surprise here: he was being interviewed by GQ??!!

I apologize if I was incorrect, as it was I admit an unfair assumption, and an assumption. However I still believe that it's a fairpoint that FOX News is heavily biased against Liberal policies and viewpoints, given that it was created under the premise of being a Republican News station, and also that it is owned by Rupert Murdoch would help fuel that point. Either way, it's still heavily biased to Conservative viewpoints in its news, as A&E is biased toward Liberal viewpoints and mindsets in its shows, and is an example of a bias for the opposing 'side'. I am sorry if my statement was false, and I'll attempt not to fall into a pit like that again, but my point stands that it is biased toward Republican ideals.
