A little more than a year ago I started a thread about possibly setting up an IRON meetup sometime. There was a lot of interest, but the idea was kind of pushed aside over time. Well it was suggested to me that we explore the possibility of doing this again.

 

We always talk about what a great community we have and are in IRON. I think it'd be cool if we could enjoy it and reminisce with one another sometime. This could be open to any current or former IRONers if we wanted it to be.

 

I was thinking that maybe we could hold something like this in the central United States somewhere. This would make travel a bit easier on people from around the country. Obviously this would be impossible/very difficult for anyone from over seas to attend but you would certainly be welcomed to come if you wanted to take a vacation to the U.S.

 

Would anyone even have any interest in something like this? If so, when do you think this could be a possibility and where should we look at meeting?

If we are to do Chicago, then we better look for a hotel ASAP. DT Chicago hotels are quite expensive.

 

I wouldn't mind doing in summer. Late summer that is, for me. For more time, next summer or this fall might work better.

 

No Los Angeles or Las Vegas?

Fall cant work for me. I work 7 days a week at 12-14 hours a day with wheat, soybean, and corn harvest. Sumer/late summer is good.

Late summer might work, but it also might be too soon for everyone to be able to schedule a "vacation".

Maybe Canada. Easier and cheaper for the Europeans, along with a lower drinking age and in easy striking distance for the Americans.

Seattle would also work best for me.

But, I know there are a few on the eastern side, and it would cost a little more for them to come into the light.

 

Is there a way to create a map where everyone can pinned where they live? Or at least take a tally of everyone who is interested and what state they live in.

I don't know about posting a map but we can list people's locales here and try and find out what general area might work best for the most people.

This please. Europeans need visas to travel to the US as well, so a separate event in Europe would be ideal

Well, I'm happy to go to both tbh, but on occasion I like to agree with something Samus says Also as a Euro I have to do my bit in supporting a euro location

 

So ya, I'd plan for both, those of us that can make to the States fine ... but why not meet up with those on this side of the pond that are willing as well.

This would be really interesting. Essentially two parties running concurrently (one in Europe and one in the States) and being combined by a giant skype call or video conference.
