Wow Ali... that's a grim picture, and what a fine line of automobiles. I take it from the words on the picture you are in Poland. After 10 years in the EU, I hope things are better for you. What amazes me the most is you can actually speak my language. The closest I can get to speaking something like German would be pulling some choice lines out of movies like "A Bridge Too Far" and failing at making it sound right. I am humbled, and have a soft spot for all of you that have lived through such conditions. I wish you happiness and prosperity in your new life, and I will do all I can from here to make sure you never lose it.

I can recommend you a good movie if you want to get a satirical perspective on what it was like when we were allied to our Soviet "brothers". Best movie about communism to date. Don't know where you could get it in the US though.

I would like to see it, unfortunately Netflix must not see enough profit to even recognize the movie was ever made.

In 1969 we were walking on the moon, and in Hungary they were banning this movie for making fun of oppressive government.

We have come a long way my friends, but a long way still to travel.

Everyone can speak English more or less. That's international language so there's a big pressure to learn it. You, native English speakers have it worse, because you don't get any incentive to learn other languages .

And don't feel to soft for us, as we're perfectly fine . Wealth means nothing, only thing that counts is who we are. All we really needed was a freedom of choice and we got that more or less.

Those that live further to the east still got it as bad as we had it 20-15 years ago: Belarus, Ukraine...especially Belarus. A nation that lost over 30% of its population during WWII (that's 1-2 dead in each family) and if that wasn't to much already, while we were enjoying our freedom they got their own dictator...and sanctions from the west.

 

Anyway, all those westerners that admire Putin have never tasted the life of a common folks in the east. I'm not talking about anyone here, but generally about those fools that think Che Guevara's t-shirts are cool and Russia is a great land of joy, free of bloodthirsty banksters and the like. We'll thats true, there are no banksters there, but that's because Russian gov is the mobster and it does take any competitors lightly.

Where is the evidence he got Nemstov killed? Let's not confuse facts and speculation.

Evidence? You are looking for evidence ? Ha... read up on what happened to proponents of Soviet leaders during its history.

I am trying to apply the same standards you'd apply on yourself, that is, innocent until proven guilty.

Speculation by media that is clearly taking a side does not make that speculation into facts, no matter how much they feed it down on their target audience.

But I can see the blatant hypocrisy here.

Once again, the problem isn't that Putin did right or wrong, but that he isn't yet another tyrant in pocket of the ruling clique.

 

 

You're comparing apples and oranges here. You simply cannot apply the same standards from east to west - west to east.  If we are to run with your "innocent until proven guilty" western example, considering that Putin violated international law, regional sovereignty, and breached the Minsk cease fire deal that was imposed, whilst denying every one of these claims by the international fora, prosecutors would see every reason to warrant his arrest for the conspiracy murder of Nemtsov.
