The way I understand it, is that I was given several options through several insurance providers. The better the doctors/providers/plans got, the more expensive it was. I could barely afford the cheapest one and simply went with that. Which form what they told me, sounds like it's not even worth having because it covers almost nothing. Overall, all Obamacare actually did is, rather than provide socialized health care, it simply kept the privatized health care system and forced everyone to pay for it. However that doesn't sound like the original bill I read (prior to any changes). It's a step in the right direction (towards socialized health care), but it sure as fuck is not socialized health care. It's just forcing people to pay for the same shit.

I'm so sorry sweetheart. The bill you read was probably the bill passed by the House... vastly different from the Senate bill that was passed without anyone reading it, in the dead of night, on Christmas Eve, using reconcilliation... because with Scott Brown taking the murderer Ted Kennedy's seat... we would have stopped it. Blame Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Barack Obama. I do hope that we can change things for you soon.

Foxy, to add to our conversation about healthcare... I would be in favor of allowing anyone to buy into Medicaid for something like $50 a month. That would take care of the affordable part, but we would still have a problem getting doctors to accept it. I have always believed the road to affordable healthcare is to create cheaper doctors. These people pay boatloads to become doctors, then expect to be millionaires. If we lowered the cost of education then becoming a doctor would be more in line with an engineer. Then we would have millions of doctors with competitive salaries. But this is just me thinking again.

Would also help if we didn't charge ridiculous prices for simple things. IE, getting a simple plaster cast can cost hundreds of dollars. And that's just the charge for the cast. Simple medical supplies are insanely overpriced. My cousin got a cast a while back and the bill was like $2K.

Here, check this out:

You want affordable health care? Stop charging patients 50x what something is worth.

Now you're thinking. I agree with you 100%. What's crazy about this is the increasing overcharging and the government steps in to figure out a new way to keep paying these criminally insane costs. Focus on lowering the cost of healthcare instead of forcing people to pay whatever they want to charge. What the ACA did was require people to pay more, and more, for what they could not afford to begin with.

I see american "liberals" as "government & liberty" folks, which is mildly interesting but hey, atleast we both understand what it means for the US no? :D

As long as both sides of the discussion understand what is meant to convey, for all I care you can call it "chickenpledging" or whatever >_>

I meant that democrats are not liberals in the traditional sense of the word. The differences between are mostly on the social scale and not their economics. Those socialist programs have been the most successful programs in your history, and the taxes are necessary for those programs and a functioning society. Many countries seem to do healthcare relatively well. I believe that 45 000 die because of a lack of insurance every year. The two parties are different as one is more socially liberal than the other, but both are still essentially bought by special interests and large corporate entities, so their policy on economic welfare for the rich(the largest welfare program in modern history) remains consistent for both parties, even if some individuals have different views on it.

You're a Canadian. I don't care how liberal you think Democrats are. The U.S. economic system is the most successful program in the history of the world. It was created by Alexander Hamilton and it's not a socialist program. It's taken liberal Democrats about 50 years to bring that program to the brink of collapse with socialist programs. Your bar of success is set pretty damn low.

45,000 people didn't die last year because of lack of insurance. They died because something killed them. Having insurance doesn't keep you from dying. How many people died with insurance? Oh sorry... that kind of thinking doesn't help your point.

You pay for health insurance because you might get sick. You might need help paying for medical care. If you don't want to pay for it, well that's on you. No one goes without treatment. We have a thing called Medicaid for anyone that fails to take care of themselves. Your life is not my responsibility. Stealing my money because you're a failure in life... is just theft.

"A society will be judged on the basis of how it treats its weakest members"

I'm fairly sure your constitution guarantees the right to life. I cannot begin to understand how you could include basic healthcare amongst that.

Alexander Hamilton did not just one day appear and decree that this is how the economy shall be for all time. It's an evolving system that many have contributed to, for better or for worse. The economic collapse you speak of is being caused by welfare for the rich and for large corporate entities. Not socialist programs.

So you're Catholic? I would not have guessed it. If you're gonna use quotes it's best to tell everyone who said it.

Let me fix it for you... "An individual will be judged on the basis of how they treat their society" - That's Me

I don't agree with your Canadian socialist way of life... or your warped understanding of our history and economy. I'll be the judge of my government, because I live under it. If I don't like it, I'll work to change it. If I like it, I'll work to preserve it. We'll be fine without your help.
