Although I don't think activity is enough to warrant a extension. I'm making the day phase end on wensday. If Dagon don't check in by Tuesday he will be replaced by imran.

USE YOUR TIME WISELY.

The thing is, scum will try to blend in, they can easily protect someone/come to their defense. When you know someone is town by being mafia. Defending them will earn townie points later if they are proven town. They will also follow the flow of the game, such as casting the votes where the flow is heading, but they will also separate them self from other scum. Without calling them out of course. We see that with one on a lynched wagon, one not voting and when voting for someone else. They will also try to generate flow without pushing to hard. Calling someone out for inactivity or lurking is the best way to do that. Town will easily grow weary when the deadline is approaching, and also follow a general trend. I was with holding my vote to see who did this trend. FYI no proof reading done.

So the best thing for us all to do is to just let people lurk even though allowing them to do so keeps the rest of us from getting a sense of their goals for the game? As you said, scum will generally try to avoid drawing attention to themselves, one method to accomplish this is to lurk as much as possible and only become active when it is noted that they are lurking.

Call it what you will, but I choose to draw attention to people who lurk to see how they react, (and so that everyone else is aware of it as well if they weren't already), because how they react can be very telling.

If we're going on activity then how about the fact that iSoc has checked this thread and not posted. He's clearly lurking.
But i still tend to believe that its in our best interest to no lynch. Therefore.

vote:No lynch

I did not say "Lynch the inactive", or "iSoc must be scum because he didn't post even though hes been checking the thread".

Chaplain is posting a lot, so he's already pro town for me. Of course I have never played with him before, so maybe he does this all the time, even when he's scum...

If you are curious, you can check previous games that I was involved with. I believe they are on page 3 of the mafia section. I believe in the past I took a more middle of the road approach but it appeared that nobody would take Kazio's role of being KevinH's anti-thesis and provoking discussion.

There are many different methods for Mafia and for Town, so post count doesn't make someone Scum or Townie. Scum can also try to be the vocal ones who try to guide the town to throw everyone off. Just saying. Especially once someone says something like that.

Valid points, last game, one of the scum hardly posted and the other three pretty much spammed it with irrelevant noise.

Every mafia player has a different strategy, some will be really talkative some will be quite. It's up to us the players to make a case with evidence against everyone. Talking provides evidence, and this is why lurker or inactivity is a red flag. This is also why town players will follow a lurker Lynch wagon. However we need to be careful following the flow. Mafia players will drop accusations against a player and see if it generates votes. One red flag of my is what I like to call "All talk, but no balls." They will hint to a player being scum with little evidence and see if it generate flow, but won't vote that person. Until it has some votes. This can be deadly towards the end of the day. When pro-lynch players start to get eager. I may add on a side note. Mafia know who they are and can assume that everyone else is a town player. Knowing someone is a townie. They will back this person up, to also earn townie points.

Only you spammed. :P Imran posted often and TW not that much actually.

Mafia talk a lot, but they stay vague and don't want to point fingers. They also will back town players if they accuse their Mafia friends, but rarely will actually vote for them...

Do we already have an idea how many scum their would be? 2? 3?

Rule of thumb is 25% scum. Adjust up or town depending on power roles.

iSoc hit the nail squarely on the head. There are many red flags to be spotted, the problem is that often times Town players can throw red flags off inadvertently. No one thing tells everyone if someone is scum, its all guess work based on the information we have available.

Its really a stupid scale to gauge scum or town. Activity level imo has never been a good indicator of being town or scum

Activity level on day one in particular can be misleading. We are still working with potential inactive players and no information.

inactivity happens a lot with new player, still trying to understand the game. It's more of the lay low approach that cause scumness> however it can be easily confuse with lurking/not posting.

Also possible that lurkers are just townie's with important power roles trying not to paint a target on their back.

It's the really inactive that I don't mind lynching.

The town may need their vote and their absence hurts the cause.
