Yes... Russia is hacking. So is everybody else. So are we. Is Russia interfering in elections? Yes. Obama sent his entire campaign organization to Israel in an effort to defeat Netanyahu. Was that interfering in their election? Obama went to the UK and made a very threatening speech to the people of the UK in an effort to defeat the Brexit. Was that interfering with their election? In 8 days this nonsense will suddenly go away. Why? Because the direction of power will change. I can't wait.

 

Something else that no one wants to say out loud... the DNC is not a Government agency, it's a political party. John Podesta was a campaign manager when he gave away his password. He was not a Government employee on a secure Government server. It was not hacking... he was conned into giving up his password... and his password, was "password". What an idiot. I'm a big fan of equal treatment under the law. So we better start laying down sanctions and expelling diplomats from every country that digs into the email of someone else.

He is under no legal requirement to do anything. The President of the United States cannot have a conflict of interest... it's not possible. He's not required to put anything in a trust, or divest his assets in any way. He is turning his business affairs over to his adult children, and donating all profits from his foreign holdings, to kill even the appearance of a conflict of interest, and to shut people up, but he doesn't have to do it.

The results themselfes weren't tampered with (regardless of Dem's shouting Russia OR Rep's shouting about dead people), but you can't blame people for witnessing it nearly always going 1-way. No he indeed can't actually be suid for it, for the simple reason that Congress figured that being POTUS automatically makes you a "point of interest" in anything happening in the US (or in today's world, the world itself be extention), thus making it illegal was a moot point. With the OGE still hovering over him stating he hasn't done what needs to be done, it is pretty clear Trump just wants a new "wind" about what is moral or ethically correct.

I can't think of a single thing that Donald Trump has done, or will continue to do, that can be considered the way everyone else has done things before. He has broken the mold as far as traditional things that candidates do, say, or act... and no matter how loud people cry, he will not change. How many times has he been asked to release his tax returns? They say it's "tradition", and has been done since Eisenhower. He will never release them... because he doesn't have to. He uses Twitter and they can't stand it... because it bypasses the press... it's "tradition" for the press to be fed information so they can report it the way they want it to be heard. Too bad.

 

Hillary Clinton lost... and she lost because she was a lousy candidate. Trump wasn't much better as a candidate, but he only needed to be better than her. I for one, believe he will be a better President than he was a candidate. His best qualities are the things that spooked most of us about him being the Republican nominee. He has a different style for sure, but that is what will be his success. We just need to get on with it.

Indeed he works politics from an entire different angle then "tradition", the part that worries most is in which way he takes that new angle.

 

Well he will still have more then just "yes-man" surrounding him, something that would also have happended with Hillary. I never considered a total doomsday scenario to be viable.

Hi Shah! Trump is refusing to take salary as President. He has to take a one dollar check to avoid slave labor... but he can turn the remaining $399,999.00 over to pay down the US debt. He has properties in many countries and his kids will be in charge of them. He has promised to donate all profits from these properties to pay down the debt... it's charity, not a requirement. Great to see you!

Lys, I never said you can't elect a rich person. I was replying to your comment where you were giving him credit for being such a charitable guy, before we actually know that for sure. It's your job as a citizen to hold him up to that promise rather than taking his word for it which you were prepared to do.

Also agreed, Hillary was a bad candidate. I still believe Bernie could've done a better job.

I have always been of the opinion that Bernie wasn't the candidate for the US, mostly just cause I think the US isn't ready yet for just hearing some of Bernie's idea's. While for the most part I would find Bernie very pleasant and "on my side", I couldn't see him as the US President. Never been someone for revolution, steadyness and thoughtfullness work better.

I thought I would start a thread to vent opinions on Cabinet choices, his campaign promises, and his re-election... re-election because he really should decide right now whether or not he wants to run for another term. If he does want to go a full 8 years... he will have to do really well with all the promises he has made. This one didn't take long. Hell, he's not even President yet and he's already got Carrier to keep their plant in Indiana. I'm impressed already.

Carrier, the company President Trump pledged to keep on American soil, informed the state of Indiana this week that it will soon begin cutting 632 workers from an Indianapolis factory. The manufacturing jobs will move to Monterrey, Mexico, where the minimum wage is $3.90.

 

That was never supposed to happen, according to Trump's campaign promises. He told Indiana residents at a rally last year there was a "100 percent chance” he would save the jobs at the heating and air-conditioning manufacturer.

 

About 1400 positions were on the chopping block, per company estimates. Over the past year, Trump has claimed he could maintain at least 1,100 of those jobs in the United States. But on Monday, the company gave official notice to Indiana officials that it would start laying off workers at the factory on July 20 and keep slashing staff until approximately 800 factory employees remain.

(Don't like the Washington Post?  Here's some CNN, the local FOX affiliate, and the NY Daily News.  The NYDN report even notes that the final planned layoffs are to be three days before Christmas.)

The CNN report even has this to say about the remaining positions:

Funny how things change in less than six months.  Turns out you really can't fight the economic fundamentals, and that automation and globalization don't give a damn about minor publicity stunts.
