https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/may/24/us-officials-leak-more-manchester-details-hours-after-uk-rebuke

"The reporter Richard Engel of NBC tweeted details not released by the UK. Engel said US intelligence officers told him family members of the the killer, Salman Abedi, had warned UK security officials about him and had described him as dangerous."

wtf were they waiting for?

How the hell are the Americans still leaking this info? Opsec has been royally fucked here now.

Agree though. He should've been taken into custody long before this happened if this intel is accurate.

Where's your source for that? He's quoted in the evening express as saying "We don't believe in killing innocents. This is not us. We aren’t the ones who blow up ourselves among innocents. We go to mosques. We recite Koran, but not that.” As for his activities in Libya, the same newspaper reports that he was a security officer under gadaffi, but fled after being accused of passing information to opposition Islamist groups.

He's maintaining his son is innocent as well. Not sure how to feel about that. Maybe he's in denial.

They are arresting everybody... lying terrorists.

If the links above aren't enough, there's this as well: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/05/24/manchester-attack-latest-detectives-hunt-terror-network/

Abedi's father, Ramadan Abedi, was allegedly a member of the al-Qaeda-backed Libyan Islamic Fighting group in the 1990s, according to a former Libyan security official, Abdel-Basit Haroun. The elder Abedi denied that he was part of the militant group and told The Associated Press that his son was not involved in the concert bombing and had no connection to militants.

Fuck the Americans. Compromising the investigation is unforgivable.

In a way it's pretty unfair that Muslim communities get shit for not reporting extremist behavior when time and time again it turns out that several warnings went to the authorities, which they then ignored.

I bet there's a standard procedure to investigate such calls and take suspects under observation. It's all due to our law. Police cannot arrest anyone just because someone said he's dangerous, or even because they believe / know he's dangerous. They need profs to act, otherwise they can just observe.

Welp!, turns out Abedi snr was part of the 'Islamist proxy' used by mi5 for regime change in Libya.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4540822/Rebels-went-Libya-MI5-blessing-amid-Abedi-probe.html

Another adventureous foreign policy coming home to roost!

What did these idiots reckon was going to happen after making NATO act as Airforce of Al Qaeda and ISIS in Libyan Regime change? Think those uprisings were lad by Jeffersonion Democrats? Turns out they were extremists being kept in line by Gaddafi.

Like it or not, Corbyn is right on point when he said this is connected to bad foreign policy.

Too bad, most people won't be informed enough or be able to connect the dots.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha oh jesus this is quite possibly my favourite post of yours on these boards, ever.

The West's foreign policy is so utterly freaking stupid. If they'd just acknowledge that they were being dragged around by the nose by Saudi Arabia, I'd have more respect for them. Instead they keep couching everything in moral overtones. Pathetic.

Problem is, there is simply no way to know when the next attack it coming and you cannot simply "crack down" on an ideological insurgency without ridiculously violating basic human rights.

Getting out of the middle east would be a good start. Not bombing Libya or Syria would be better start. Not trying to dictate the Muslim world might just be the best start.

Western foreign policy has been atrocious my entire life. Sometimes it literally makes me want to cry seeing how the only thing I've known is a constant state of war. The west is so backwards on this that it shouldn't be possible. But it is. And all because of places like Saudi Arabia and our dependence on their garbage. And our elite don't care at all.

"A bomb in NYC? Oh well. At least it didn't kill me or my investors" - every elite ever.

In our western system, lives literally have monetary value and this crap will not end until we end their psychotic, greed fueled regime. I just don't see any other way. The downside to that is fracturing ourselves and out own society to make it happen, which could have equally bad results.

Thanks, Bush and Cheney. You'll certainly have a special place in any history books that may remain.

Of course you can crack down on ideologies! Violently or not, Islamists ultimately strive to topple states and instill their ideologies as rule of the land. It's a clear cut threat to national security and should be dealt with accordingly. No need to throw everyone in jail right away, but maybe cutting state funding to Islamist-related organizations posing as "congregations" and "charities" would be a good start. Banning them would be even better.

I will not argue that Western Foreign Policy in the Middle East is FUBAR, as it clearly is. This is another example.

What is your definition of Islamist?

Is ISIS his top priority?

"What is your definition of Islamist?"

A political ambition that seeks to install sharia as rule of the land, or propagates the use of a parallel sharia based legal system for certain communities.

You're intelligent enough to know what I mean. You deflected because you know that ISIS isnt at top of the hit list of USA, which is unfortunate.

Yes folks, the opposition party has found a new card to play. It's called, "The Deflection Card". The race card has been played out... same with the gender card, the poverty card, the gay card, and the rock star of all cards... the "it's for the children" card. Yes they are not working anymore. Democrats still can't win an election. They need a new card. Now this is what they do:

Democrat: Trump colluded with the Russians to steal the election from Hillary

Republican: You don't know that

Democrat: Trump should be impeached

Republican: Why?

Democrat: Because Trump colluded with the Russians to steal the election from Hillary

Republican: There is no evidence of that

Democrat: Trump talked about Wikileaks during his campaign

Republican: So? Hillary talked about the pussy grab video... when there's something out there that can damage your opponent, you really want everyone to see it... there's nothing wrong with that.

Democrat: But Trump colluded with the Russians to steal the election from Hillary

Republican: THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF THAT!... and even if he did, that is not a crime.

Democrat: You're deflecting.

See how it works?

Now this is what Defense Secretary General James "Mad Dog" Mattis said about ISIS... there is no deflection.

Our strategy right now is to accelerate the campaign against ISIS. It is a threat to all civilized nations.

And the bottom line is, we are going to move in an accelerated and reinforced manner, throw them on their back foot. We have already shifted from attrition tactics, where we shove them from one position to another in Iraq and Syria, to annihilation tactics, where we surround them.

Our intention is that the foreign fighters do not survive the fight to return home to North Africa, to Europe, to America, to Asia, to Africa. We are not going to allow them to do so. We are going to stop them there and take apart the caliphate.
