Could you really do that? She did a hit and run. She killed your mother. You could pretend she never told you?

Tough choice for me. I oppose capital punishment for many reasons, but that is not the issue. When my mom died I was devistated, rocked to the core of my very soul, and it changed me. That said, my husband played a big part in helping me through it, he is my life partner and I would be just as deviated to lose him as I was to lose my mother.

In this scenario I’m pregnant, my baby needs their father, and he will be jailed and probably executed for committing a hit and run. I don’t know if I could stay with the man who killed my mother, but I don’t think I’d turn him in either. I don’t want revenge. He’s not a threat to anyone. He had an accident. There is no justice to be served. My mother cannot come back, and she opposed capital punishment, so she would object to me turning him in.

Reason being i always believe that the way people think they'll react and the way they actually end up reacting to such conditions are really different. Tough choice for me. I oppose capital punishment for many reasons, but that is not the issue. When my mom died I was devistated, rocked to the core of my very soul, and it changed me. That said, my husband played a big part in helping me through it, he is my life partner and I would be just as deviated to lose him as I was to lose my mother.

In this scenario I’m pregnant, my baby needs their father, and he will be jailed and probably executed for committing a hit and run. I don’t know if I could stay with the man who killed my mother, but I don’t think I’d turn him in either. I don’t want revenge. He’s not a threat to anyone. He had an accident. There is no justice to be served. My mother cannot come back, and she opposed capital punishment, so she would object to me turning him in.

Not all information is given, or at least in the starting topic  (didn't read all replies).  How long were you married, etc.

 

Nonetheless I feel my answer would likely be to do nothing.  Given the time after, 20 years, I would have moved on from the situation and my life.  Certainly that will always have a lasting impact on my life, and especially the years right after it happened but 20 year later I don't think the grief and the anger would still be there like it was for the first years following it.  If she came forward with this information at this point, it's obviously been something that has been eating her for this long.  I'd just keep it to myself and her and try to move on from it, both her and I as obviously this has taken a toll on the both of you, and especially if you tell her it was your mother that grief/scab she's held on for so long with will be opened wide open.  If she is the love of my life, and she's bearing my child, obviously she means the world to me.  Having her be put in prison or executed just means my life has now had 2 horrendous happenings that have caused my two loves of my life.  At the end of the day, I believe most parents only wish that their kids will grow up and be happy, and I believe my mother would want that for me.
