Speed Game - Game Thread

The IRON Speed Game

Just a sleepy, perfectly normal morning in MoleVille. Wait. No, that's not right. What?

You crowd into the village square and find the mayor shot dead! Whispers say the mafia are invading. Time to get lynching!

This is a C9 game. The role setup is ONE of the following:

1) 2 Scum, 1 Doc, 4 Townies

2) 2 Scum, 1 Cop, 4 Townies

3) 2 Scum, 5 Townies

EXAMPLE ROLE PMS:

Being a member of the Mafia is cool. And one day, you fancy taking over this small village, y'know? Should be fun.

- You are a MAFIA GOON.

- Your partner is SCUM .

- You may talk privately during the night phases only.

- Once per night, SCUM1 sends in the name of one person to kill. If he dies, SCUM2 takes over.

- You win when you outnumber the town.

You wake up one morning - damn! Someone's dead! Seems the mafia want to take over. Time to brush the dust off the gallows and go scumhunting!

- You are a VANILLA TOWNIE.

- You win when all anti-town factions have been eliminated.

You wake up one morning - damn! Someone's dead! Time to put your years of experience of being a cop (Which was definitely NOT spent drinking coffee in your car) to good use, and find some scum!

- You are a COP.

- Once per night, you may message me with the name of someone you want to investigate. You will discover their alignment.

- You win when all anti-town factions have been eliminated.

You wake up one morning - damn! Someone's dead! Luckily, you're an ER doc at the local hospital - you figure you can save some innocent people from this mafia invasion.

- You are a DOC.

- Once per night, you may message me with the name of someone you want to protect. That person cannot be killed that night.

- You cannot protect yourself.

- You win when all anti-town factions have been eliminated.

I was going to say about it myself, but Oranges beat me to it (concerning Kevin).

But yeah, I was pretty much thinking the same thing. While I don't really agree with the whole no lynch thing to begin with in most circumstances, Kevin is at least making sense. I don't know if he likes to rely on the cop or what exactly, but if there's a 2/3 chance of there being no cop, you kind of have to take action into your own hands. So as far as the voting goes when it comes to Kevin and the voting on the first day thing, I think it's just a bunch of crap to be honest. More so considering the circumstances (and the smaller game), where you can't really afford to wait to begin with.

And to be honest, providing Kevin himself isn't mafia, I would be willing to bet money that one of the people to have voted for Kevin is mafia, as for the reason I said earlier, that trying to vote for Kevin's change of play is taking advantage of an easy vote.

Narsis your comment of talking outside the game still sticks with me and for that reason I put you at L-1.

Vote: Narsis

Technically you're putting him at L-1 but in reality it's the hammer vote. Narsis is the only person not voting and his only logical choice would be to vote for KevinH. The deadline is today and since Narsis is the first to 3 votes he will be lynched. The only person not voting for either KevinH or Narsis is Kevin, and there's no way Kevin will vote for himself.

KevinH - 2 (CanucksDynasty, Falzis)

Falzis - 1 (KevinH)

Narsis - 3 (vgmmaster, Electric Mango, Oranges)

Not Voting - 1 (Narsis)

It appears highly likely that Narsis will be getting lynched unless a major turn of events unfolds.

Man all Kevin ever talks about is accidentally lynching a cop. He's berated every game for wanting to play follow the cop (and its a rightful berating imo) but his logic behind his change in stance is perfectly in keeping with his usual stances.

Now onto the matter at hand, no word from Narsis and the time is ticking down, its time to put something out there, I still think Narsis is the most suspicious and since we have less chance of any cop then a no lynch isn't much help only dragging the game out as we get eliminated one by one, Narsis your comment of talking outside the game still sticks with me and for that reason I put you at L-1.

Vote: Narsis

i've got nothing more to explain why i said it. there is no reason that could satisfy you for my saying it and it would be a lie anyway since i've already given the truth.

but i shall do my best:

that post was after i realized that there may have been a way to catch scum. part of me wanted to point it out directly, but i knew that would destroy the purpose of it anyway. being the somewhat cryptic mind mine is from time to time, i posted a few things that would hint at my knowing, or thinking something, but not directly saying it.

it's kinda like if you have a scum as a suspect, but not enough to prove it to the town, odds are you are going to drop hints of some kind to try to get other townies to watch them while trying to not tip the scum off. the same goes for a cop with a guilty that doesn't want to claim outright.

that basically sums up my defense. there isn't anything else to say really.

alright something more to add:

the general consensus is that scum want to avoid bringing attention to themselves correct.

since i claim to have known that posting what i did could draw some attention, and if i am scum, then why post it?

oh look now we have some WIFOM...

seriously...even your case against me is WIFOM. you assume that as scum i would try that double bluff. but what if i'm not scum and really am what i say? but what if this is all a scum trick by me to get you all to think i'm town by making you tihnk i'm scum and then defending myself? but what if...?

I was going to say about it myself, but Oranges beat me to it (concerning Kevin).

That would make Canucks or Narsis more likely to be mafia than me since I don't know Kevin's style of play therefore taking advantage of that fact would be beyond me.

@Mango - deadline is actually tomorrow.

I thought I remembered reading that all days are to last no longer than one week. Everyone was confirmed and play started on March 25th. Today is April 2nd and already more than a week has passed. Was there an extension given that I missed?

Here. -Mole

Edited by molestargazer

there was an extension given to the 3rd.

@Falzis: however you could very easily be mafia and if so partnered with someone that would know Kevin's playing style. just throwing it out there.

Pretty much what Narsis said. Just because your new doesn't really mean a whole lot. Let's say you and person A were scum together. This person could tell you different play styles to watch out for, advise you on what to do or not do and even voting strategies.

some more thoughts:

basically, vgm's vote on me is because what i said doesn't quite sit right.

EM voted me because Oranges and vgm were looking at me as being a little off.

Oranges voted me for not adding anything(i wonder if he read that post i quoted when he said that) and his not liking what i said.

To me...one post, one single post is what the entire case against me is at the moment. I'd understand if I had been lurking a lot as well, but I haven't. I'd understand if KevinH turned up town and i was one of them voting him. I'd understand if there was any logic behind the wagon at all. But at this point all you have is a WIFOM argument based on a single post. What have I done, not said, that could garner suspicion? What else have I said besides that one post that could garner suspicion? What have I done or said that could garner any more suspicion then what has been done and said by others?

anyway, i'd like to hear some more from CD and Kevin. could use a couple more posts from Oranges too.

I understand your frustration if you are a townie Narsis. I've said lots of non vanilla things and been wrongfully lynched because of it. It always upset me that I felt I had to play like a robot and not post what I really felt just to stay safe. It seemed like people were ready to pounce on me the minute I said anything out of the ordinary. I never understood why they thought that if I were scum why wouldn't I just try to blend in like everyone else? It never made sense to me. Now that I've played enough games people have come to accept the fact that I have a different playing style than others, just as I understand that KevinH plays the game his own way as well, just as I'm sure we all do.

That being said, Day 1 lynches are really hard to figure out. We have almost nothing to go on, no voting patterns, no nothing. We only have the posts that people have made and we speculate from there. When there is not a lot of information to go off, we have to choose based off of lesser evidence than we do in the later days. With so little time left it will either be you or KevinH that is lynched and I feel that KevinH has a better chance at being a townie and that is why I leave my vote where it is.

My vote isn't locked in stone and I will continue to monitor this thread for any updates and if there is enough content posted to change my mind I will. If you are lynched, it's still better than being night killed right? <- I know you hate that.

@Narsis - you made an unfortunate slip of the tongue which raised some eyebrows...much like how KevinH voting on Day 1 raised my eyebrows. Does that make you scum? NO...but it does put you higher on the scum list for some people. Alot of us are trying to garner clues from anything. Truth be told...your defence claim wouldn't have dissuaded me either.

If indeed you do get lynched...

1) If you turn up scum...the people who voted for you are pretty much all townies. Given that there are only 2 scum in a 7 player game...I highly doubt a scum would lynch his partner this early in the game.

2) If you turn up townie...at least one of the 3 (vgm, EM, Oranges) is probably scum.

aye lynched is indeed better then being nk'd. :P

now who said it was a slip of the tongue? as i said before i meant to say that. it was in no way a slip up.

as for saying vgm, EM, or Oranges will have to be scum...since there are 7 people in the game, two of which are scum, there is almost a 100% gurantee that one of a group of three is scum. that's a pretty safe claim imo. even then nothing can be for sure.

one thing that's been bugging me constantly is why was that post of mine so eyebrow raising? so i say that i would like to be able to talk outside of the game thread...doesn't every person playing mafia in their right mind want that? so my saying what everyone wants makes me suspect? and don't go saying it could be a double bluff. that's just WIFOM. which is kinda weird because that's what you are accusing me of trying to bring to the game...which means you are trying to bring WIFOM into the game...which means...that shouldn't you be the one under suspicion? circular reasoning FTW!

essentially, i'd like the case against me restated if you please. include quotes.

nvm i summed it up myself. :P if you have anything else to add to the case then by all means say it:

I am scum because:

1. Logic that a scum has a higher chance of pointing out a mistake in a townie pm due to it causing scum a loss.

2. My post that I wished I could talk about the game outside the thread seems a bit odd.

yes weekends are slow. :P

hmm...sometimes i wish i could privately talk with other people about the game...

3. A townie wouldn't have said such a thing for fear of how it might be viewed.

4. Scum may say such a thing for the double bluff and WIFOM purposes.

5. The trust that those making the above case are right.

My responses:

1. It was the right thing to do. If you had seen that mistake as a townie you would say something. Everyone here would. Just because I noticed and said something first makes me suspect? Doesn't make much sense to me.

2. Yes the post was a bit odd. But isn't it something you yourself would want to have? What makes me saying what I'm thinking wrong?

3. What if i hoped it would be viewed in a different light? What is so wrong with saying what's on your mind?

i've got nothing more to explain why i said it. there is no reason that could satisfy you for my saying it and it would be a lie anyway since i've already given the truth.

but i shall do my best:

that post was after i realized that there may have been a way to catch scum. part of me wanted to point it out directly, but i knew that would destroy the purpose of it anyway. being the somewhat cryptic mind mine is from time to time, i posted a few things that would hint at my knowing, or thinking something, but not directly saying it.

4. And yet assuming that a scum would use it for said purpose is WIFOM in and of itself.

5. And yet trust can be misplaced can it not? What if the people you "trust" are scum? To be honest, you can trust no one as a vanilla townie.

As far as the role PM goes, it may be a simple case of you being more observant then the rest of us, or it could be a double bluff as mentioned. Most of the time, when people see they're a vanilla townie, they may just assume they win when all scum are killed. In my own opinion, a scum is more likely to ask a question about that then a vanilla townie will.

There's also Kevin's remark about how your automatically a townie due to what you did which raises eyebrows as well. However, and just my own thought on that, Kevin had less questionable posts then yourself. Yeah, there's the change in style as has been mentioned, but it's a reasonable change due to how this game is played. And I already mentioned that. With the chance of no cop, you gotta take action.

However, one thought that has been on my mind. There is the fact that Kevin immediately unvoted you after that incident with basically no explanation. There's also the OMGUS vote, but this early in the game, I may be willing to overlook that. At this point, I'm not all too sure at this point.

I will say this. You both have your question marks. You, for your actions. Kevin, more so for his words (and his one vote). However, they say actions speak louder then words, and unless I'm convinced otherwise, it looks like I'm keeping my vote on you. But, if you are scum, and nothing else pops up, I will say this. Kevin is next up on the chopping block. In my mind, one of you (if not the slim chance of both) is scum. It's just a matter of picking the right one at this point.

I did explain the unvote but I'll do it again.

I was a L-1 and wanted to give an opportunity for those that were voting for me to unvote. They didn't do so immediately so that raised some suspicion in my eyes.

I don't think a comment about a townie role post makes a player automatically a townie. However, given that there is no other information, I think there is a slightly greater chance that a townie would scrutinize a role sent to him rather than a scum scrutinize a role posted in the thread.

I generally like to play follow the cop but since there is a 2/3 chance of there not being a cop, it is in our best interest to lynch on day 1 -- even if it amounts to a random lynch.

The "End of D1" Vote Count:

KevinH - 2 (CanucksDynasty, Falzis)

Falzis - 1 (KevinH)

Narsis - 3 (vgmmaster, Electric Mango, Oranges)

Not Voting - 1 (Narsis)

Hey, look! Narsis is the mafia! A small group of townfolk rush towards Narsis as the sun sets. As another group put the brakes onto the portable gallows so it doesn't slide off, Narsis is grabbed by the neck and forced onto the gallows roughly.

"Wait- guys- PLEASE-" Narsis chokes desperately as the noose is put around his neck. The hatch drops, and as one, the villagers abandon the body and rush to Narsis' house. Wait. Damn.

Narsis, TOWNIE, has been lynched.

It is now NIGHT 1. Since it's weekend, you have until Sunday at 6PM GMT to submit night actions. If I get your actions in sooner, I'll start the day.

Morning dawns. Slowly, one by one, the remaining villagers gather in the middle of the square. Wait. Someone's missing.

You all hurry to the house of vgmmaster, to find her shot dead in her bed. Damn. You head back to the square and set about finding out who did it.

vgmmaster, TOWNIE, has been killed.

It is now DAY 2.

Deadline is Sunday 12th April, at 6PM GMT.

I still think Kevin's a scum. Electronic Mango and Oranges are now suspicious in my eyes.

Those who vote to lynch a townie are indeed suspicious.

I'll make some allowance since it was in the best interest of the town to vote for someone and nobody really knew anything.

But a townie got lynched and those that voted have to be a little bit more suspicious that the rest of us.

Why so at ease my friend? We lynched a townie, a townie got scum killed, and now we're down to 5. Which means there are only 3 townie to overpower 2 scums so we townie have to get the lynch right today.

EDIT: Why are the posts slow?
