  1. That we will have to wait and see I guess . So far it looks like the Ferrari engine uses a little more fuel than the Mercedes engine to get the same performance (hard to say for sure though). So that's definitely a little bit of under performance then, however they still can keep updating the software and get the mappings right. So hopefully there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the engine itself. I do think Ferrari had a nice innovation compared to the other engines. By fortifying the turbo casing they basically nullified the need for a ballistic shield in the engine cover. Making the weight distribution of the car more efficient. Other than that, looks like Renault has had some issues with the thermal part of the energy recovery system. Certainly hope they can fix it and we won't see 4 Renault based teams overheated on the side of the track in 2 weeks time
  2. I'm also quite curious to see what caterham and marussia will do this season. Caterham had the better pre season test, basically being the team who has the most milage with a renault engine. But then again there is that renault engine. Marussia is using the ferrari which has proven to be a reasonably good engine for the two other teams but marussia has failed to get any sensible milage on their car. I really hope to see them fight in the mid field and even score some points, if any year this is a year full of chances for them. However i do feel a little bit of dread to see them battle for last again...
  3. haha, thing is i've been part of the group who founded my clan. I'll hop over from time to time but i like staying in touch with both groups. You guys through the forums and them via the CoC game
  4. I only know most of this with a dutch point of view. As in our local taxes etc. So i'll try to sketch the picture with that in mind. No idea what is applicable to your situation. In general when buying a NEW car these sort of rules apply: Get a petrol car when you drive less than 25000 km / 15500 miles per year. Get a diesel otherwise. (that is with 100% diesel availability (at all fuel stations) and cheaper diesel than petrol). This is mainly because of a few things, one of which you already indicated. 1 Diesel engines are a bit more expensive than petrol engines, simply because the process is a little bit more complicated, higher pressures etc. 2 Diesel engines are a bit worse for the environment than a similair petrol car. This results in a higher tax you have to pay for a diesel car compared to a road car AND a higher fee to drive on roads. In other words, when you buy it you pay more, and when you drive it you pay more annually (though that varies from country to country). When you buy a used car. There will be a big difference here, in general with the years gone by the petrol car and diesel car will roughly cost the same, the difference in the engine costs will have disappeared by now. There will not be extra taxes because of you buying a "bit more environmentally unfriendly " car because it will be second hand anyway. So you only might end up with a little bit higher taxes because of driving a car like this. I think the salesman who told you the story had parts of the new car story in his mind when talking about the milage and the costs vs benefit situation. There is a kernel of truth to his story about the filter. But as far as i am aware this is not the entire truth neither. A diesel car has this filter in the exhaust system, same as petrol cars having a similar sort of filter in their exhaust system. With the major difference being the sooth of the diesel combustion. Even when sooth builds up, a sustained drive, once in a while, will generate the heat for it to burn of, it will burn off old sooth as well. So yes sooth will build up if you only do short runs. Then again, a petrol car will also start to degrade a little bit over time when doing only short runs. When you do a sustained drive over 40 miles an hour you will notice the petrol car will get more life to it as well. When you look at all the parcel delivery vans and most taxi's (at least in a lot of places thats the case) most of them will run on diesel. And i don't think the filter will be the major cause of any of their problems. In my experience you would need to take a longer journey like once every 2-3 months to avoid a "build up" but even a longer period of time would not increase the risk by too much. My main reason in choosing between petrol and diesel would be the driving comfort and fuel money for your mileage. The difference in costs between a petrol and a diesel in terms of fuel can be calculated: Petrol would roughly do 15 km / l a diesel would roughly do 20 km/l so when looking at the costs. 1.8 euro for petrol and 1.5 for diesel you look at 15000 miles: 3000 euro for petrol and 1125 for diesel. Next to that i generally just like the way a petrol car performs compared to a diesel car. But there are people who like it the other way around. It turned out to be a bit of a rambling story i hope you find some uses in it here and there. :S
  5. Disaster for RBR continues
  6. I've been playing this for roughly as long as samus i reckon, bases look similar, you are just a tad ahead of me. Dodoei123 from the Undead Army. Don't think ill be joining another clan though, came to like these guys here
  7. I'm a dutch dutchy . I know there have been a few others around, but i think quite a few of them might have stopped playing by now.
  8. You never found out about the other dutchies in IRON or you want to talk websites?
  9. Ah, i misunderstood mclaren then, it makes a lot more sense to me now haha. Hmm, compared to ferrari and mercedes themselves the rest of the teams had a certain factor of uncertainty with regards to the body work around the engine and the packaging. That sort of stuff normally gets picked up later in the season. However with red bull being the de facto factory team, i think you are partly right. But i don't think you can neglect the fact that lotus used to be the renault f1 team. I don't know how much they have grown apart, but they are more than just a costumer i think. So for renault it's probably still a little bit of a juggling game rather than the focus on just red bull. Can be wrong though, don't know the inner workings of renault . And yeah from the top down the floor looks ugly. But you still want the full square for aerodynamic purposes. They are basically allowed to have that square as designated area for the floor so they are all using the full size. If at one point they would be allowed to make the square as big as the wheel lines so to say you can put money on it that they will make it that size . Then again, you hardly notice it looking at it from the side
  10. Hmm.. basically these 2 next to each other: http://e0.365dm.com/14/01/660x350/Lotus-E22_3073762.jpg?20140128125133 http://e1.365dm.com/14/01/660x350/Ferrari-F14-T2_3072388.jpg?20140125140900
  11. I seem to remember one of the teams trying something similar with the front pull/push rod's at one point which got countered by the FIA. Considering the goal of the FIA this year is to make the rear a lot less stickier i'm curious as to see how it will play out. All in all i think it's a great interpretation of the rules and applaud them for it. With all the fuss with Merc > Ferrari > Renault in terms of engines, the little Honda's with great milage for their one car is doing brilliant as well. Can't wait to see bahrain and see all the finished cars for the first time. A lot of them were missing monkey seats and camera mounts and stuff like that. And finally get a tiny peek at what the performance of this years car is compared to last year. http://e1.365dm.com/14/01/660x350/mclaren-and-ferrari-rears-diffuser-mp4-29-f14-t-comparison_3074707.jpg?20140129165041 As for the looks... The biggest losers are force india and catherham if you ask me I think i like the merc the most. To go a bit further on this, i have seen some very interesting images in terms of packaging with renault vs ferrari. ... Can't find it when i spot it again i'll post it. It was from sky. Anyway it came down to ferrari based cars being able to have smaller sidepods (not needing the entire floor space) and on top of that being able to have a lot smaller sidepods in terms of length. So the rear end packaging of all the ferrari based cars is a lot sleeker than the renault engines, well maybe except for red bull but we all know how that ended up

  13. haha was wondering where you had left that
  14. I think the sauber looks good, but i read everywhere that they developed the cover to close up the trapped nose, on all those photo's however you still see the stepped nose for some reason. I'm wondering if they will use it after all or just run with the stepped nose. I think the ferrari looks nice, but if you look at it from the side i can't help but feel it's got a big bumper on the front
  15. I'm guessing you run chrome with a lot of tabs and pages open? That means that even chrome will use quite a fair amount of memory. Broken memory can possibly cause all 3 of the problems although it's never easy to be sure ^^ One thing to do is like lorikz said, take out one memory dimm (should be easy on most laptops) run the mem test and see if it passes and than the same for the other so you can limit your search even more and pin point the dimm that needs replacing. On the other hand they are insanely cheap to replace nowadays should you wish to eliminate the memory problem alltogether: Dutch comparison link If you have a surplus of 20 - 25 dollars it's probably one of the easier solutions to solve at least one of the problems. I could fix it all or it could just make things less annoying. I don't know.
  16. Does it completely shut down or are the fans still going when that happens? As in maybe it's a big ass freeze? Generally i'd say i don't think it's got anything to do with your harddrive at all. However to be sure that isn't the case there are a couple of " easy" tests you can do such as stressing your hard drive up a bit and see if that causes any problems. Try copying big files and stuff like that or simply perform a bad sector check. The difficulty with random crashes is that it's difficult to determine the cause at all. Any chance you have any specific programs / files open in a majority of these occasions? Most of the crashes (due to broken hardware) occur when you stress them, memory for example will mainly just crash when you load a lot of data in and out of it. Anyway, depending on whether or not your computer completely shuts down or not. And i'm suspecting it doesn't as you'd otherwise not be able to see the red lines. I would search in the direction of your graphics card, drivers or the actual connection to the screen. Graphics cards tend to sprout more and more errors when they get too hot for example, they are mostly in the left corner (furthest away from the screen ). Is that general area very hot when your laptop crashes? I'm ruling out the driver issue as you reinstalled all of that. The connection could in some circumstances cause this although it's not too likely with a laptop of only one year old. I've got a 4 year old HP laptop here and the connectors with the screen are breaking down, causing some intense visual displays from time to time. Not sure this helps but maybe it helps giving you an idea in what direction to search. (might be worth seeing if the laptop is full of dust, blocking the airflow)
