Medieval Mafia

An evil overlord, an out of the way town, a strange death, and a suppressed power...all the makings of a good story. Unfortunately, this isn't that town, nor are you those lucky few to go on the world saving adventure. But that doesn't mean that a story of some note isn't about to take place...

Hey uh...sorry i'm a little late getting this all out. I was really really really busy yesterday. I'll get everything together and throw it all out like now. :P

The Players

1. Theophilos, rich merchant, inheritor of a vast information ring, and Deputy, was imprisoned and sentenced to beheading Day 2.

2. KevinH, wealthy merchant, head of a vast information ring, and Cop, was found cut and poisoned during Night 1.

3. AKCPluto, wealthy merchant, evil and cunning murderer, and member of the "Mafia", was stabbed to death Day 1.

4. Kaziocore, wealthy merchant and Townie, lynched Day 3.

5. CanucksDynasty, wealthy merchant and member of the "Mafia", survives to end-game.

6. Electric Mango, wealthy merchant and Townie, killed by CD in end-game.

7. Martino, wealthy merchant and Townie, was stabbed to death Night 2.

Assuming Theo is scum and he's not lynched right now and no one would replace him, wouldn't it be better if we lynch another one?

We will know if he is scum if no one dies during the night.

It's a possibility.

No not really. The mafia could just decide not to use their NK and frame Theo.

Agreed.

That's why I said it's a possibility.

If we lynch a townie today and scum night kill, we'll have a 1-3 chance of lynching scum the next day

If we lynch a townie today and scum DO NOT night kill, we'll have a 1-4 chance of lynching scum the next day

Both situations would put us at lynch or lose the following day, I don't see why scum would choose to do a night kill at all as they have better odds of winning if they do nothing.

It's also LYLO if we no lynch and a townie is nightkilled.

I'd rather lynch today and tomorrow as we will have 2 chances of getting scum.

CD, how do you respond to my questioning your possible distancing vote? He would have most likely been voted to a lynch anyway, even without your hammer vote. It's possible that a seasoned veteran such as yourself would recognize that and then drop the hammer on him to distance between you two.

KevinH is famous for his Day 1 no lynch, perhaps you picked up on a change in his game style and had him night killed. What say ye?

I am in the unfortunate position of being the last vote so I would be under suspicion regardless of how I voted.

I voted for AKC and it is suggested that it is a distancing vote.

If I voted for Martino then I would be under suspicion for lynching a townie.

If I did not vote for either...then I would be under suspicion for lying in wait.

Damned if I do...damned if I don't.

KevinH gameplay has changed in recent games...that's why I said I would give him a bye since it is still relatively new style of play for him.

I wasn't sure what to make of it (much like Martino's line of questioning for him).

In the last game...he was a regular townie and voted on D1.

What I do know is that you (EM) and Theo did not vote for AKC.

I give you a bit more townie points as you placed an interesting 2nd vote on Martino (which got the game moving along).

It is also unfortunate that Theo has requested a replacement.

We don't have a chance to grill him with questions...so we are left wondering if he townie or mafia.

Right now I'm looking at the possibility that Theo could be the second scum member...

1) AKCPluto randomly POSed Theo without much reason. I'm not sure why he didn't just made it into a vote.

2) Both suspected CD for some reason...

3) Theo is just lucky that he's partner acts kind of weird like POS people without a reason so he used his partner's mistake

as an opportunity to tell everybody that he's townie because he pointed his pointless POS.

As I have said before...out of everyone left...I think Theo is the other mafia.

Note: I'm at home taking care of my sick daughter...so I won't be online as often today.

It's Friday....deadline day.

With 2 votes...Kazio is in line to be lynched.

@Martino/EM - can you please re-iterate why you voted for Kazio?

@Kazio - any last words, comments, suggestions?

Assuming I'm wrong that Martino is scum and I'm the other guys, why would I choose Kaziocore instead of you?

2) I'll say it's better to vote for the guy that didn't vote for the scum than the other one who voted for scum and didn't do anything "scummy" like

Then why do you have your vote on me?

@CD I have a rather big post coming up, but I want an answer from Kazio first. I was assuming we would skip this weeks deadline because Theo's replacement could not start before Monday. I would rather not lynch before we got his input.

I don't think there will be an extension cuz of Rule #6-1 that says "There are no extensions or shortenings".

It was put in place to get the game flowing/moving.

Regardless...Kazio has the necessary minimum votes required for a deadline lynch.

I understand that , but one of our players being gone for the complete gameday should warrant an exception. Especially considering he is one of the prime suspects.

Still, I have my post ready, I just need Kazio to answer first.

even if i extended and he was replaced...how would that help? the replacement cant tell you what Theo was thinking when he did what he did...

He can give us his take on events. Of course, he can't really defend Theo's actions. But if he turns out to be a townie we can use his statements the next day.

Anyway, if you won't extend the deadline, at what hour is the deadline?

I think it's Saturday morning whenever he gets a chance to get around to it (like the previous Saturday).

1) I forgot that Theo has only a vote left

2) I came home late and tired and slept very early

So,

Unvote: Martino

Vote: Theophilos

There's no way I could lynch my suspected scums like Martino and EM so I picked my third suspect instead.

@Martino/EM - can you please re-iterate why you voted for Kazio?

I would have still preferred to wait for theo's replacements input, but anway:

I'm mainly voting for Kazio due to the first few posts he made after I mentioned him possibly putting a distancing vote on AKCPluto. Those just seemed incredibly scummy to me. Logically speaking, it would make more sense that the last scum is someone who did not vote for AKCPluto. But then the lynch happened too fast. Though it is interesting to note that both Theo and EM came online after KevinH put the third vote on AKCPluto. To be honest, I'm becoming more uncertain the more I think about it. I still believe Kazio's posts are scummy, but objectively speaking he also has a posting style similar to Mikey's and some other player whose name I forgot. I falsely detected scum vibes from both of those players in pretty much any game I played with them. So perhaps it comes partially down to posting style difference. (Though not all of it is posting style, which is why I need to talk to Kazio postgame if he is town)

In any case, perhaps you are right about Occams razor. Especially both Theo and EM staying out of the lynch discussion made me suspicious as well. After KevinH put the 3rd vote on AKCPluto, both players posted. Theo:

I would think there is a cop ... t'would be kinda unbalanced if there wasn't one.

Why did he not comment on the current situation? It seems like he wanted to stay active without touching the AKCPluto situation. I could see why if he was his scumbuddy. He had already voted for me, so there was not much he could do in that respect. Now, he could try and argue against me, but that would make him an extremely obvious target if he couldn't convince the others. So instead he chose to sit back and keep his random vote on me in support of his scumbuddy. In general I believe it to be very poor play by a townie to keep your random vote in a situation where the lynch is clearly between two players. You should either confirm your vote or remove it. Doing nothing would just allow the scum to get away with a "I did not really intend to lynch him, it was just a random vote".

.....and not because it puts both of you at 3 votes?

This one was even more interesting. Sure he more or less attacks AKCPluto, but note how he does not remove his vote for me either. In fact, he does not even mention it. How's that for trying to save your scumbuddy while distancing at the same time?

Obviously, Theo and EM cannot both be scum. So (at least) one of them must have made an honest mistake here. But I'm having some trouble convincing myself that they both did. I really don't think I would keep my random vote as a townie in a situation like this. Theo's vote was complete random and should definitely not influence the lynch. EM voted me to get the discussion going. Well it did, but he did not unvote. Not even when it was clearly between me and AKCPluto. In fact, they both completely ignored that debate. I've been gone for a few games, so I don't know how much experience Theo has. But I'm pretty close to convincing myself that EM would not normally ignore the debate like this. Yes, he questioned AKCPluto's vote, but he did not say he thought AKCPluto was suspicous or innocent.

Then after the lynch:

Not really I think we both pointed to problematic nature of the pinky pointing ... I'd rather consider the 4th vote on AKC Pluto since it was "overkill", is CD doing more than just picking sides? Perhaps hiding the fact he's mafia?

Theophilos trying to broaden the range of suspects. Obviously, if he is scum he would lose if we just lynched him and EM, so that would give him reason to try and make more people suspicious.

So, I'll ignore my gutfeeling/tells and go with logic. EM and Theo both did not vote for the scum. EM and Theo both were online after it became clear it would be between me and the scum AKCPluto. Both kept their random vote while more or less ignoring the debate. I'd actually be slightly more tempted to vote for EM than for Theo, simply because his questioning of AKCPluto's reason for his vote, while staying out of the rest of the debate and keeping his vote on me seems rather convenient. However, unvoting now and voting for EM means we either lynch Theo or have a no lynch if someone else unvotes. A no lynch would be horrible, so I'll have to settle for lynching Theo today and EM tomorrow:

Unvote

vote: Theophilos

It can be said that they (which may include me) were afraid to take sides or say something dumb so they didn't

but you have to admit that things happened so fast (4 hours after you voted AKCPluto)
