Traitors on the Battlefront

Bombs exploding. Guns firing. The smells of dust, sweat, blood, and tears. This is wartime.

For some reason or another war has sprung up and all you & your squads have gotten called in to fight. The initial invasions and such went extremely well. However, recently you've been losing ground and men...and a lot of them. It seems that almost every time a squad can get into a good position, they get blown to bits or forced back. Attacks, counterattacks, feints, and flanking...none of it seems to work anymore.

And no one seems to be able to figure it out.

Worried that you have traitors in your midst, and separated from a lot of the higher ups, you decide it's time to take action into your own hands and find the traitors.

Rules

(Stolen from mole and edited to my liking)

1. This is game. Play to win; expect to lose. And have fun.

2. No editing or deleting posts.

3. No talking to other players outside the game thread unless your Role PM states specifically that you can.

4. No quoting any PMs from me, including Role PMs. Doing so will get you modkilled. Paraphrasing is OK. If you are worried about something not being ok, then either PM me or just dont say it.

5. Vote for a player to be lynched by using the Vote: Narsis format. You dont need to unvote before voting again, but it is appreciated(especially if you dont vote again right away).

6. Days will last 10 days. Nights will last up to 72 hours, but may be cut short if I get all actions in before then, with a minimum 24 hour night.

6-1. If discussion is lagging, I may impose a shorter deadline at my own discretion. Deadline extensions will happen on request - but will only happen once per day at most, and if I feel there's enough activity to warrant one.

7. A lynch requires a majority (50% rounded down + 1) vote. You can also No Lynch, by using Vote: No Lynch.

7-1. If there is no majority by deadline, only a half-majority is needed. (Majority / 2, rounded up if necessary)

7-2. If there are 2 players with the same amount of at least half-majority votes at deadline, then I will lynch the one who reached that number of votes first.

8. After someone has been lynched, discussion may continue until I can get to the thread and end the day. If you are dead you may continue to post until your death scene is posted. After that point I will only allow a Bah post, and only if you were night killed.

9. Don't use small / invisible font, don't use coloured text(except for mole who is allowed to use orange if he is acting as the super moderator of the forum), and don't use any form of clever encryption or code in your messages.

10. If you haven't posted in 2 days, I'll prod you. If you don't pick up that prod AND post within 48 hours, I'll replace you.

10-1. If you need to be replaced for whatever reason, please PM me, don't flake.

10-2. If you are V/LA, don't rely on me checking the thread / your signature. Please post in the thread notifying me of your V/LA or PM me about it.

10-3. If you replace out, you automatically lose. If you are someone replacing in, whether it counts as a win or loss depends on how long you have been replaced in for.

11. Vote counts will be made whenever I feel like it(or it is asked) and will be done in a separate post.

13. I hope it isn't necessary, but any modkills will negatively effect the rule-breaker's faction in some way which I see fit. If you are modkilled, you lose, no matter how the game ends.

14. I can change, add, or edit rules as I see fit. I will notify players in-thread if this happens.

15. I am not perfect. I may have got something wrong. I may have missed a rule out. Let me know, ask me questions, but don't abuse my mistakes.

15-1. To get my attention in-thread, use the MOD: <Your message> format. Or, y'know, you could PM me.

Special Rules

1. In this game you are fighting over a battlefield. The more posts you make in thread with applicable content(determined by me), the more your side advances against the opponent.

1-1. Double posts(or triple posts etc) will only count as a single post.

2. As such, this game does not have traditional win conditions. Each side wins when they move a predetermined amount of space across the battlefield. (and yes it is balanced and fair)

3. Mafia post counts will be multiplied by (# of townies) / (# of mafia).

4. Any third-party roles will not affect the # of posts for either town or mafia. However, it may play a part in their own powers(if they have any) or win condition.

4-1. Power roles(if there are any) may or may not be affected in a similar way by their post #.

5. The amount of ground controlled by each side will be updated at the start of every day. Note: post numbers will not be revealed, only the percentage of ground each side controls.

6. When a player dies, the amount of posts they were contributing to their side is removed.

7. Due to the inclusion of this mechanic, a side may win before, or after, where they normally would. (ie. mafia may still lose even if they have more then 50% of the remaining players)

8. If you have any questions regarding this mechanic, just ask. I may, or may not, answer it.

It's not too early we have quite a few posts to make much of it at this point but there isn't much to talk about for a few days without it. I say its just impatience rather than anti-town.

Including this post (by page)

1. molestargazer - 2+4+2+0+3+0

2. Chaoshawk - 2+1+1+1+3+1

3. CanucksDynasty - 7+1+7+4+2+1

4. Nerau - 0+2+0+1+2+0

8. Alasdair - 0+0+2+1+0+0

9. Martino - 0+0+1+1+2+0

10. Kaziocore - 0+1+1+3+2+0

CanucksDynasty 22

KevinH 16

molestargazer 11

Chaoshawk 9

ccabal86 8

Kaziocore 7

Kasabian 5

Nerau 5

Martino 4

Alasdair 3

The spread between #3 and #6 is small (a difference of only 4 posts).

We have reached consensus on requesting an update.

But now the spread of the top 3 posters and the rest have shrunk from when I originally wanted it.

MOD: When we request the update...are you including posts up til you reply or only the posts prior to us requesting it.

I actually couldn't care less if we got an update right now.

And since I was in Canada all day yesterday and working all day the day before, I didn't get a chance to post those days.

In any case, even if we did try to do it based on post counts, there's other things that could account for the number. It seems to me that a scum could easily just make sure they post the average amount so as not to appear on the radar?

Ok so umm...I've made the decision to drop the midday update. the whole point of the mechanic is to encourage activity, not discourage it. i also didnt exactly plan on the town using it as an investigation(at least not to the extent they are trying).

so effective immediately, and retroactively, a change to Special Rule 5 and a removal of Special Rules 5-1 and 5-2.

OK...so the mid-day update is scrapped but post count still matters to encourage activity (via the battlefield) at the start of every day (ie. D1, D2, etc).

So I'll clear the people I think were town that were really pushing for this investigation tool.

Aye, back to the old fashioned way of seeing people's mannerism and vote patterns for tomorrow.

Right, then! Back to scumhunting!

Vote for someone, dammit.

WHY WE SHOULD LYNCH TODAY:

1. We have a chance of hitting scum.

2. Every post we make which is scumhunting and getting towards a lynch is contribution to the battlefield, which we can then win. No-lynching is anti-town since there's no discussion.

3. Using the No-Lynch strategy means scum can easily conceal themselves by agreeing to it to seem pro-town, and whittling down our numbers overnight.

4. Voting analysis can be used on Day 2, and scumhunting becomes so much easier.

5. The more discussion we have, the more likely scum are to slip up.

Do something pro-town today! Lynch someone! :speak_cool:

I liked that mechanic, but I can see how it would conclusively finger a scum.

Now we're back to "nobody knows nothin'"

Vote: no-lynch

I don't know why you still want to vote for no one.

The vote/not to vote debate is always done so I won't put another reason

on why I think voting is better except that since this game has another

special mechanic which is...

Mafia post counts will be multiplied by (# of townies) / (# of mafia).

I think it's best to lynch the most inactive if we still have no clue on who the scum is.

So I'll vote...

Vote: Alasdair

If he's scum, good... one mafia down

If he's townie at the least the multiplier for the mafia post counts will be lowered

If he's scum, good... one mafia down

If he's townie at the least the multiplier for the mafia post counts will be lowered

This is something worth considering.

Otherwise, a 70% chance of lynching a townie seems like a bad bet to me.

LYNCH AT DAY 1

DAY 1: 7 3

DAY 2: 5 3

DAY 3: 3 3 DEAD

NO LYNCH AT DAY 1

DAY 1: 7 3

DAY 2: 6 3

DAY 3: 4 3

DAY 4: 2 3 DEAD

Although with a no lynch, the game could reach DAY 4 assuming we always lynch townie,

do remember that the scum could also win through their number of posts.

Allright then how's this for a theory: I'm pretty sure AT LEAST ONE of our top 3 posters is Mafia. Why, you ask? Simple: they want to get out as many content posts out there ASAP while they still have their full ranks AND max number of town members for the multiplier. After all, they don't have to kill the town to win this one, they can also win by gaining ground.

In this light, KevinH's no lynch vote seems awfully suspicious...

We were all under the assumption that we would get a mid-day update.

I would think that mafia would want to try to get the post counts to a 50% range as to keep the suspect pool as large as possible.

Something KevinH suggested that he would "no-lynch" if it hovered around 50% (I think).

Now you followed him and voted for KevinH.

I find that even more curious.

the paper that i keep track of votes(and posts) on is at home and i'm at school now. so you'll get a VC in around...8 or 9 hours.

As a townie, I want to gain as much ground as possible, too. Scum will want to lynch a townie with lots of posts. Then they will night-kill a townie with lots of posts. Suddenly they are gaining more ground...

Even if we don't get mid-day updates, we can still play with the math at end-of-day updates. More townies alive means a better chance to win. A dead townie by lynch means we will not make it to day 3 no matter what.

I don't understand the reasoning for your vote, CD.

My vote on KevinH was a first random vote (ok...semi-random vote). Alasdair voted for KevinH (which he claims was a random vote). You voted KevinH so that he should vote for someone. And then ccabal86 voted for KevinH for his no-lynch stance (same as you). That put the count up to 4. Which would be only 2 votes away from a majority lynch. Therefore I unvoted.

I said I believed that one of the top 3 posters (or maybe now 5 since the spread between 3-5 has shrunk) is mafia. I have good reason to believe that KevinH is townie. So if he's townie...then you are most likely mafia.

And if you're mafia...I think your partners are: ccabal86 and Chaoshawk (mainly due to the sudden increase in posts after I suggested getting the update ASAP)

MOD: Is the battlefied counted after the dead parties are removed?

Just wondering cuz if townie mislynch and mafia gets in a nk...then the mafia count should be multipled by 5 / 3 (if we have 7 townies and 3 mafia).

Is that correct?

That's one reason I'm not posting much. :P This may be futile, but I'm not really wanting to attract any attention from the Scumbags yet. I'd rather stay in the game a little longer than that.

In any case, for now...

Because I'd rather reserve judgment for when I'm sure. I have a few ideas right now, but I'm going to wait on them.

posts are counted and tallied before the dead parties are removed. then their posts are removed and the percentages tallied and revealed.

posts are counted and tallied before the dead parties are removed. then their posts are removed and the percentages tallied and revealed.

So basically the % is whomever is left standing on D2.

If the town mislynches and the nightkill goes through then we should see a mafia count multiplied by (5 townies / 3 mafia).

That's assuming 7 townies and 3 mafia.
