Traitors on the Battlefront

Bombs exploding. Guns firing. The smells of dust, sweat, blood, and tears. This is wartime.

For some reason or another war has sprung up and all you & your squads have gotten called in to fight. The initial invasions and such went extremely well. However, recently you've been losing ground and men...and a lot of them. It seems that almost every time a squad can get into a good position, they get blown to bits or forced back. Attacks, counterattacks, feints, and flanking...none of it seems to work anymore.

And no one seems to be able to figure it out.

Worried that you have traitors in your midst, and separated from a lot of the higher ups, you decide it's time to take action into your own hands and find the traitors.

Rules

(Stolen from mole and edited to my liking)

1. This is game. Play to win; expect to lose. And have fun.

2. No editing or deleting posts.

3. No talking to other players outside the game thread unless your Role PM states specifically that you can.

4. No quoting any PMs from me, including Role PMs. Doing so will get you modkilled. Paraphrasing is OK. If you are worried about something not being ok, then either PM me or just dont say it.

5. Vote for a player to be lynched by using the Vote: Narsis format. You dont need to unvote before voting again, but it is appreciated(especially if you dont vote again right away).

6. Days will last 10 days. Nights will last up to 72 hours, but may be cut short if I get all actions in before then, with a minimum 24 hour night.

6-1. If discussion is lagging, I may impose a shorter deadline at my own discretion. Deadline extensions will happen on request - but will only happen once per day at most, and if I feel there's enough activity to warrant one.

7. A lynch requires a majority (50% rounded down + 1) vote. You can also No Lynch, by using Vote: No Lynch.

7-1. If there is no majority by deadline, only a half-majority is needed. (Majority / 2, rounded up if necessary)

7-2. If there are 2 players with the same amount of at least half-majority votes at deadline, then I will lynch the one who reached that number of votes first.

8. After someone has been lynched, discussion may continue until I can get to the thread and end the day. If you are dead you may continue to post until your death scene is posted. After that point I will only allow a Bah post, and only if you were night killed.

9. Don't use small / invisible font, don't use coloured text(except for mole who is allowed to use orange if he is acting as the super moderator of the forum), and don't use any form of clever encryption or code in your messages.

10. If you haven't posted in 2 days, I'll prod you. If you don't pick up that prod AND post within 48 hours, I'll replace you.

10-1. If you need to be replaced for whatever reason, please PM me, don't flake.

10-2. If you are V/LA, don't rely on me checking the thread / your signature. Please post in the thread notifying me of your V/LA or PM me about it.

10-3. If you replace out, you automatically lose. If you are someone replacing in, whether it counts as a win or loss depends on how long you have been replaced in for.

11. Vote counts will be made whenever I feel like it(or it is asked) and will be done in a separate post.

13. I hope it isn't necessary, but any modkills will negatively effect the rule-breaker's faction in some way which I see fit. If you are modkilled, you lose, no matter how the game ends.

14. I can change, add, or edit rules as I see fit. I will notify players in-thread if this happens.

15. I am not perfect. I may have got something wrong. I may have missed a rule out. Let me know, ask me questions, but don't abuse my mistakes.

15-1. To get my attention in-thread, use the MOD: <Your message> format. Or, y'know, you could PM me.

Special Rules

1. In this game you are fighting over a battlefield. The more posts you make in thread with applicable content(determined by me), the more your side advances against the opponent.

1-1. Double posts(or triple posts etc) will only count as a single post.

2. As such, this game does not have traditional win conditions. Each side wins when they move a predetermined amount of space across the battlefield. (and yes it is balanced and fair)

3. Mafia post counts will be multiplied by (# of townies) / (# of mafia).

4. Any third-party roles will not affect the # of posts for either town or mafia. However, it may play a part in their own powers(if they have any) or win condition.

4-1. Power roles(if there are any) may or may not be affected in a similar way by their post #.

5. The amount of ground controlled by each side will be updated at the start of every day. Note: post numbers will not be revealed, only the percentage of ground each side controls.

6. When a player dies, the amount of posts they were contributing to their side is removed.

7. Due to the inclusion of this mechanic, a side may win before, or after, where they normally would. (ie. mafia may still lose even if they have more then 50% of the remaining players)

8. If you have any questions regarding this mechanic, just ask. I may, or may not, answer it.

Right now the front-runner of being lynched is molestargazer.

I don't get a warm and fuzzy from him.

I have mixed feelings. He wasn't very supportive of the strategies using the mid-day update of battlefield and thinks that voting for me is scum-hunting.

However, it's not worth the risk to lose the 3rd most posts if he's townie.

hmm i agree the risk is there and with me who voted for him at random and based on everything i sorta of mixed aswell on this

Simply because he has a differing view of how to play the game (no matter how illogical it may seem to you) doesn't mean he's a scum. Most mafia players typically dislike no-lynching and killing the instigator of the no lynch doesn't seem unusual to me. We discussed about lynching KevinH for that last game after all. Nerau I did not understand what you just said. It sounded like you tried to copy KevinH's post but mix your thoughts into it.

ok let say this a diffrent way

i orginally voted for mole as a random vote

and i am keeping my vote there b/c of recent events

but like kevinh the risk is the issue

giving the mafia an advantage on the battlefield is problematic if you know what i mean

Want me to quote it or just tell what page the hint is?

Which is really surprising because you're doing the opposite :/

Well maybe they don't even need to reach the top 3 posts since even in the middle, their posts get multiplied anyway

and less spotlight is given to them.

Why is that so surprising?

I'll be honest, I'm not really so much of the analytical type-- last time I played Mafia it was with a... more situationally creative group, I'll just say. My opinion on the scumstrategy may be a bit simple compared to all of yours, but I would honestly just let any other scum take care of themselves and try to gain more playing field. I mean... I am trying to get more posts, but since I'm not so analytical and I tend to come to this thread when I'm tired, I never have anything really observant to say. At this current point, I'm kind of more watching the game play out than really participating.. This type of Mafia is very strange to me, lol.

Since I'm pretty sure that both KevinH and CD are town, I'm pretty certain that the battlefield will still be in our favor even if we lynch mole and he turns out to be town. Anyway, unless the scum's win condition is far easier than ours, I doubt we'll have to worry about losing the game because they beat us on the battlefield. By the time that happens, they more than likely outnumber us anyway.

We don't really know who is scum and there is more downside than upside to "randomly" killing somebody off.

How on earth is that a scumtell? Because I didn't go along with a majority idea that, in your eyes, would help the town? I have explained my position on this enough, I think it would have harmed more than it would have helped - me not supporting it was me trying to be pro-town.

That's not it

Yeah...that's not the page I was referring too.

So...I can't give Kasabian full marks for being townie.

@Martino - want to tell us what page it is and have Kazio confirm it?

That way I will know for sure that the 2 of you are townies.

Hang on.

Are you saying you're confirming people as town by whether they saw a 'hint' or not?

Hang on.

Are you saying you're confirming people as town by whether they saw a 'hint' or not?

Sure...why not?

It's one of the main reason why I believe KevinH is townie.

Both Kazio and Martino have displayed (to me) pro-town posting.

So this would just be another check mark that would ease any doubts I have on them.

Yeah, but...Mafia players can find the "hint" too, can't they?

This. Someone spotting a hint doesn't confirm their alignment, why on earth would you think it does?

If anything, bringing the hint to everyone's attention by these repeated games of "What-page-is-it-on" means the scum are much more likely to look and find it. Which sort of defeats the point of a breadcrumb and gives them much more information - and then by knowing where it is they can get themselves confirmed as town by you to boot.

(For the record, I haven't seen it.)

Yeah, but...Mafia players can find the "hint" too, can't they?

There's always the possibility of that but that's assuming that the mafia would guess right without having townie knowledge.

Pretty risky if you ask me.

Anyhow...I thought Kazio and Martino were pro-town to begin with.

This would ease any doubts I had on them.

Besides...no one else other than Kasabian, Kazio and Martino have claimed to see what I have seen.

If the rest don't want to believe me...then that's their choice.

?

I doubt this will be considered as a valid post since it's just a question mark.

If you can't guess what I mean by townie knowledge...well...too bad for you.

I have no intention of sharing that with you (at this time).

Kazio and Martino seem to have that knowledge that you are lacking.

No it isn't : \

Sheesh...I guess you were the only one to see the same hint as I did.

@Kazio - don't mention the page since I don't want to give anybody else more hints.

I'll just have to hope you saw what I saw.

OK...back to scumhunting...

Eventhough Martino didn't come up with the same hint I saw...I still think he's townie.

Martino suggested that the top 3 posters keep posting alot to further distance themselves from the pack in a 2 day span.

And then request the mid-day update.

Let's say CD (me), KevinH, and mole each had 30 posts.

(Don't say it's subjective cuz I believe that if it discusses the game...it's valid and not fluff).

And the rest had only 5 posts (hardly enough posts to affect the battlefield for the top 3 posters).

With the mid-day update we could have known 3 things.

If the battlefield swings heavily in townie favour = all 3 are townies.

If the battlefield is even = one of the top 3 poster is townie.

If the battlefied swings heavily in mafia favour = at least 2 are mafia.

That is some useful information if everyone played along but alas...the mid-day update was scuttled.

So to me...

I suppose it is.

However:

- If it's something to do with the Role PM, it's invalid - scum will probably have been given a copy of the Townie Role PM.

- I don't see what other 'Townie Knowledge' there could be. Feel free to fill me in.

1. If the world were perfect, it could have worked out like that. It isn't. Other posts could and would have effected the battlefield and skewed the results.

2. Why do you persist in discussing it anyway when it's impossible?

2. Why do you persist in discussing it anyway when it's impossible?

It is to show why I believe Martino is townie.

It was a strategy that would have worked in favour for the town.

People who ignored a winning strategy usually ends up on my suspect list.

1. If the world were perfect, it could have worked out like that. It isn't. Other posts could and would have effected the battlefield and skewed the results.

2. Why do you persist in discussing it anyway when it's impossible?

But we will have the information for Day 2. We just subtract out whomever got night-killed and we can have the discussion.

Assume:

CanucksDynasty 41

KevinH 29

molestargazer 19

Chaoshawk 17

ccabal86 14

Kaziocore 13

Nerau 9

Alasdair 8

Kasabian 7

Martino 7

164 posts; assume 3 scum and no other hidden mechanics at work.

If the battlefield were 73% townie, I would be certain that all 3 of the scum were in the bottom 4 posters.

The proof is left to the interested student.

Man...you just keep digging a hole for yourself.

Now I'm pretty sure that you are scum.

Track me down a shovel, will ya? It's really a pain doing it with my hands.

But, really, why's that? Because I think Narsis is a competent mod?
