Traitors on the Battlefront

Bombs exploding. Guns firing. The smells of dust, sweat, blood, and tears. This is wartime.

For some reason or another war has sprung up and all you & your squads have gotten called in to fight. The initial invasions and such went extremely well. However, recently you've been losing ground and men...and a lot of them. It seems that almost every time a squad can get into a good position, they get blown to bits or forced back. Attacks, counterattacks, feints, and flanking...none of it seems to work anymore.

And no one seems to be able to figure it out.

Worried that you have traitors in your midst, and separated from a lot of the higher ups, you decide it's time to take action into your own hands and find the traitors.

Rules

(Stolen from mole and edited to my liking)

1. This is game. Play to win; expect to lose. And have fun.

2. No editing or deleting posts.

3. No talking to other players outside the game thread unless your Role PM states specifically that you can.

4. No quoting any PMs from me, including Role PMs. Doing so will get you modkilled. Paraphrasing is OK. If you are worried about something not being ok, then either PM me or just dont say it.

5. Vote for a player to be lynched by using the Vote: Narsis format. You dont need to unvote before voting again, but it is appreciated(especially if you dont vote again right away).

6. Days will last 10 days. Nights will last up to 72 hours, but may be cut short if I get all actions in before then, with a minimum 24 hour night.

6-1. If discussion is lagging, I may impose a shorter deadline at my own discretion. Deadline extensions will happen on request - but will only happen once per day at most, and if I feel there's enough activity to warrant one.

7. A lynch requires a majority (50% rounded down + 1) vote. You can also No Lynch, by using Vote: No Lynch.

7-1. If there is no majority by deadline, only a half-majority is needed. (Majority / 2, rounded up if necessary)

7-2. If there are 2 players with the same amount of at least half-majority votes at deadline, then I will lynch the one who reached that number of votes first.

8. After someone has been lynched, discussion may continue until I can get to the thread and end the day. If you are dead you may continue to post until your death scene is posted. After that point I will only allow a Bah post, and only if you were night killed.

9. Don't use small / invisible font, don't use coloured text(except for mole who is allowed to use orange if he is acting as the super moderator of the forum), and don't use any form of clever encryption or code in your messages.

10. If you haven't posted in 2 days, I'll prod you. If you don't pick up that prod AND post within 48 hours, I'll replace you.

10-1. If you need to be replaced for whatever reason, please PM me, don't flake.

10-2. If you are V/LA, don't rely on me checking the thread / your signature. Please post in the thread notifying me of your V/LA or PM me about it.

10-3. If you replace out, you automatically lose. If you are someone replacing in, whether it counts as a win or loss depends on how long you have been replaced in for.

11. Vote counts will be made whenever I feel like it(or it is asked) and will be done in a separate post.

13. I hope it isn't necessary, but any modkills will negatively effect the rule-breaker's faction in some way which I see fit. If you are modkilled, you lose, no matter how the game ends.

14. I can change, add, or edit rules as I see fit. I will notify players in-thread if this happens.

15. I am not perfect. I may have got something wrong. I may have missed a rule out. Let me know, ask me questions, but don't abuse my mistakes.

15-1. To get my attention in-thread, use the MOD: <Your message> format. Or, y'know, you could PM me.

Special Rules

1. In this game you are fighting over a battlefield. The more posts you make in thread with applicable content(determined by me), the more your side advances against the opponent.

1-1. Double posts(or triple posts etc) will only count as a single post.

2. As such, this game does not have traditional win conditions. Each side wins when they move a predetermined amount of space across the battlefield. (and yes it is balanced and fair)

3. Mafia post counts will be multiplied by (# of townies) / (# of mafia).

4. Any third-party roles will not affect the # of posts for either town or mafia. However, it may play a part in their own powers(if they have any) or win condition.

4-1. Power roles(if there are any) may or may not be affected in a similar way by their post #.

5. The amount of ground controlled by each side will be updated at the start of every day. Note: post numbers will not be revealed, only the percentage of ground each side controls.

6. When a player dies, the amount of posts they were contributing to their side is removed.

7. Due to the inclusion of this mechanic, a side may win before, or after, where they normally would. (ie. mafia may still lose even if they have more then 50% of the remaining players)

8. If you have any questions regarding this mechanic, just ask. I may, or may not, answer it.

I was also kind of wondering why everyone's believing Kasa. And also mod gave him "permission" to post that... so is it really from the role pm, or paraphrasing, or is Kasa somehow special by all intents and purposes?

It does seem kind of likely though.

Ok: what if Kasabian is simply not telling the truth, lol. Why should we belive him? Also about "ramping up post counts"...Uni is back, I have less time/energy/will to post after hard days and more after relatively easy ones. I wouldn't draw such bold conclusions based on activity periods, as the reason for those can be strongly RL-based.But fine, let's go with the theory that Kasabian and molestargazer are townie (I highly doubt it, but w/e). These are the remaining combos:- Chaoshawk + Ccabal86 + Alasdair = 44- Chaoshawk + Kaziocore + Nerau = 43There is one common name there: ChaoshawkSo why not vote for him then? If we do, we have a bigger chance of catching a scum.

Why not believe Kasa is the doc?

The ramping up post counts is what has already happened when there was a discussion about mid-day update.

Those people chose to post to get as many posts in prior to the mid-day count.

Chaoshawk is a possible candidate for a lynch...I need more time to disect all the posts.

Again...why not believe Kasa is the doc?

I see no counter claim to prove otherwise.

Well played Kasabian but your squad does not specialize in medicine but mine does. It was a good way to pull attention off yourself and push a lynch towards myself and the dismemberment of my squad. The post counts per thread are not exact as in the way the moderator will count all of them worthy of being relevant to the posts so they will vary with accuracy and not be precise. I know for certain now Kasabian is mafia.

Then tell me what % on the battlefield is needed for the town to win.

I'm not sure if I can but I'll be vague and say its more than 89%

Since Kasa is mafia...mole should be mafia.

Im not a scum but i'll have to ask, does this mean you wanted to lynch mole? a townie? come on dude what's with you? are you really trying to help us scum hunt or not?

Here Kasa is professing his innocence and that mole is townie.

I suspected mole as mafia on D1 so I don't understand why he would assume I would think mole should be townie.

Going over his posts...he hints that he protected KevinH.

So I don't see how he can absolutely say for certain mole is a townie.

Kasabian, I don't want to put you at L-1 and risk a quicklynch. However, you are currently at L-2.I'd like a roleclaim, please.

Here mole asks for Kasa to roleclaim as doc (which forces the real doc to roleclaim).

But now Chaoshawk has counterclaimed (something he didn't necessarily need to do if he was mafia since he wasn't on the chopping block yet).

It was a last resort it seems for Kasabian to save himself and out the true doc. KevinH proved very valuable this game and it appears they targeted him or no killed.

Since CD and KevinH were confirmed townies I knew mole was mafia and tried to keep out of his spotlight and the enmity between him and CD.

It would be very scummy of him to kill CD with the little feud and tension between the two. I'd figure the third(assuming its three mafia and no third party or is the third party) one is either Martino or Alasdair and leaning towards the latter since he hasn't been very helpful.

Your sacrifice will not be in vain as we will be able to lynch a mafia.

I would also choose Alasdair before Martino.

Ok, so a day consists of 10 RL days, right? That means the "day" will end on Sep 12. I suggest we request a battlefield update on Sep 10. Untill then the 3 people who has been the most active in this thread so far keep up with the game-relavant posting, an all other people should keep their posting to a minimum. Then from the battlefield update we can get an idea regarding our active posters' alignment.

may i ask why?imo i believe activity is a must and controlling someones activity just to determine the mafia is silly, even though a strategy like that could accomphlish somethinga better plan? i would have to think on that one

I agree with you nerau, activity is a requirement for everyone. not because a person has the higher count of post it make this person instantly a townie, we have to be careful with that because there may be some scummies trying to fool usI agree with making an strategy to hunt the scum.I'd disagree with you,i think killing straight away in day 1 isnt a good idea sometimes because you don't really have to much evidence to accuse someone, although if before the 12 we have cornered a scum , then he have to be lynched.PS: Mmm, how can we be sure he really is a townie with this short-notice

Nerau shoots down CC suggestion of keeping the top 3 posters isolated.

Kasa agrees with him.

Maybe this shows a connection between the two?

So back to scum hunting. There are/were some interesting things going on, so I'm not going to meddle too much at this point. But I will bring forth a new lynch target.

vote Nerau

is this because of my actions or just because i end up in one of Kevin's combinations

and it seems a new twist has been placed on with the claims of our docs

Which is telling the truth?

I am in more inclinded to believe Chaos simply for the facts present and knowledge of the town's requirements

Nerau shoots down CC suggestion of keeping the top 3 posters isolated.

Kasa agrees with him.

no i was stating how activity shouldn't have been controlled or limited just for the sake of scum hunting

Great you change your mind, you did it well, you wont regret for that change, believe me.

I don't know if the question above was for all, but im stepping in and say, i would go again for the options of kaziocore, CH or Nerau, i would go with lynching either Kazio or CH (botw higher post count from the 3 of them)

I also suggest an update before the deadline, what will be gained with that? easy more information that will lead to the real scums ,therefore, there won't be any townie dead.

I doubt Kasa would finger his scum-mates...so I'm thinking that kaziocore and Nerau are townies.

Mafia

Kasabian - fake roleclaimed doc

molestargazer - my D1 suspect and Kasa defended him (see my previous post)

Alasdair - by process of elimination...he's most likely mafia.

That actually isn't a bad idea but it won't matter what order as they do not have the advantage in post percentage anyways. It definitely would make sense to get rid of their most active poster.

The current vote count looks like this (I think)...

Kasabian (2) - ChaosHawk, CanucksDynasty

No Lynch (1) - Kasabian

molestargazer (1) - KevinH

Nerau (1) - Martino

Not voting (5) - molestargazer, Nerau, Alasdair, Kaziocore, ccabal86

I'm OK with voting for either mole or Kasa.

Here mole asks for Kasa to roleclaim as doc (which forces the real doc to roleclaim).

Jesus, please, PLEASE do not make me reveal why I said that.

Vote: Kasabian

Well, this seems simple enough. If he's scum, it's good. If he's doc, we kill Chaos tomorrow.

Vote: molestargazerI think we should go for the most active suspect, just to ensure we gain as much ground as possible.

We probably have a cop...so he should investigate mole (just to be sure).

Jesus, please, PLEASE do not make me reveal why I said that.Vote: KasabianWell, this seems simple enough. If he's scum, it's good. If he's doc, we kill Chaos tomorrow.

That is my plan.

You can explain yourself the next day...as I am sure you will.

Im writing true my blackberry and i wont quote anything because i can't just got back from work from 6am to 2am i was today, i found whatever you choose is fine, i would't mind sacrifice for the townies when i know for sure he screwed himself by counterclaiming something he's not you fooled everyone but not me.

And btw what i told narsis was if the hint i left was ok to be put it without getting mod-killed that is all since this is the first timw im doc i didn't knew how to do it.

Ps: i expected that move from everyone but not from you mole come on!

Ok, interesting situation, two doc claims. So either Kasabian or Chaoshawk is scum. Now, on the one hand, you would say it makes sense to lynch Kasabian and trust Chaoshawk. Simply because there was no obvious reason for Chaoshawk to claim at that point. He would just get himself killed if Kasabian is the doc. However, claiming doc for Kasabian was equally foolish if he is not the doc. As I explained before, there simply had to be a doc. So he knew that sooner or later he would be found out. Of course, Kasabian was cornered, so in that regard you could say that he had no choice. The interesting thing, however, is that the same more or less holds true for Chaoshawk. With Kasabian and mole being cleared by Kasabian's roleclaim, all combinations that we had left featured Chaoshawk as scum. So he would have inevitably been lynched today or tomorrow. Perhaps he saw this coming and decided to at least make the town take out our doc in the process.

There is something interesting in the post where Chaoshawk claims doc:

Well played Kasabian but your squad does not specialize in medicine but mine does. It was a good way to pull attention off yourself and push a lynch towards myself and the dismemberment of my squad. The post counts per thread are not exact as in the way the moderator will count all of them worthy of being relevant to the posts so they will vary with accuracy and not be precise. I know for certain now Kasabian is mafia.

Why is that bolded phrase in there? Sure I absolutely agree, one of the things I found a little suspicious on the last few pages was people using exact post counts to prove which combination of scum was possible. As was discussed before, we could very well be off by one or two posts. What it should have been used for, was to determine if any of the top posters was scum. With a clear battlefield advantage to the town, it is fairly obvious that at most one of the top 3 posters was scum. That is something we can use, using exact combinations seems a little premature at this point

However, that is not why I wanted to draw your attention to that line. If he really was concerned about this, he could have expressed so before. However, he waited until his roleclaim to do so. Obviously, he felt he needed some credibility before trying to convince the townies that these exact combinations are not the way to go. Now the question is, if he is the doc, would he really be worried about that at that point? If Chaoshawk is the doc, Kasabian is scum and, at least on the surface, it looks likely that mole is too. So if the next two lynches are set, what do the exact combinations matter? It looks like he knows he will get caught in a lie and wants us to change our mind about these combinations, so as to give his scum buddies a chance.

So does this mean that I want to lynch Chaoshawk? No, not necessarily, however, I would also prefer to keep Kasabian alive at this point. In fact, I am going to suggest two things that I would both find scummy in almost any other circumstance. I am going to ask for a cop claim and propose another no lynch. I'll start with the cop claim, we have one person who has dropped a ton of hints by now and while he seems hesitant to come out and flat out claim, I'm sure the scum has caught on by now. If he is not scum himself that is. So for him to come out and claim wouldn't really change much. However, if he is scum, then most likely we have someone else who is the real cop.

Now normally, I wouldn't like to draw out the cop, but in this scenario I think it would work. The first, and most important, reason is that it would directly lead us to two scum. Sure, we would not know which one is scum. But the scum would be forced to kill the doc and the next night the cop or otherwise face an increasing pool of cleared townies. So the scum will have to make the first move, after which we can get rid of the two scum that have been exposed. This is also why I am suggesting the no lynch. If we chose wrong and lynch our doc, the cop dies tonight. If we no lynch, we force the scum to reveal their hand and at the same time we allow the cop to get one final investigation off. One final investigation in addition to netting us two scum I might add.

Of course, the one who has been hinting at cop could really be the cop, but in that case he has already been more or less exposed. In that case the gameplan doesn't change. We force the scum to take out the real doc and we lynch the fake claim the next day. In this case it only nets us one scum and one investigation, but it beats the alternative of risking the lynch of our doc and losing the cop without an additional investigation. The fact that we are still with an even number of players makes the no lynch work out even better, since we won't lose a day.
