Traitors on the Battlefront

Bombs exploding. Guns firing. The smells of dust, sweat, blood, and tears. This is wartime.

For some reason or another war has sprung up and all you & your squads have gotten called in to fight. The initial invasions and such went extremely well. However, recently you've been losing ground and men...and a lot of them. It seems that almost every time a squad can get into a good position, they get blown to bits or forced back. Attacks, counterattacks, feints, and flanking...none of it seems to work anymore.

And no one seems to be able to figure it out.

Worried that you have traitors in your midst, and separated from a lot of the higher ups, you decide it's time to take action into your own hands and find the traitors.

Rules

(Stolen from mole and edited to my liking)

1. This is game. Play to win; expect to lose. And have fun.

2. No editing or deleting posts.

3. No talking to other players outside the game thread unless your Role PM states specifically that you can.

4. No quoting any PMs from me, including Role PMs. Doing so will get you modkilled. Paraphrasing is OK. If you are worried about something not being ok, then either PM me or just dont say it.

5. Vote for a player to be lynched by using the Vote: Narsis format. You dont need to unvote before voting again, but it is appreciated(especially if you dont vote again right away).

6. Days will last 10 days. Nights will last up to 72 hours, but may be cut short if I get all actions in before then, with a minimum 24 hour night.

6-1. If discussion is lagging, I may impose a shorter deadline at my own discretion. Deadline extensions will happen on request - but will only happen once per day at most, and if I feel there's enough activity to warrant one.

7. A lynch requires a majority (50% rounded down + 1) vote. You can also No Lynch, by using Vote: No Lynch.

7-1. If there is no majority by deadline, only a half-majority is needed. (Majority / 2, rounded up if necessary)

7-2. If there are 2 players with the same amount of at least half-majority votes at deadline, then I will lynch the one who reached that number of votes first.

8. After someone has been lynched, discussion may continue until I can get to the thread and end the day. If you are dead you may continue to post until your death scene is posted. After that point I will only allow a Bah post, and only if you were night killed.

9. Don't use small / invisible font, don't use coloured text(except for mole who is allowed to use orange if he is acting as the super moderator of the forum), and don't use any form of clever encryption or code in your messages.

10. If you haven't posted in 2 days, I'll prod you. If you don't pick up that prod AND post within 48 hours, I'll replace you.

10-1. If you need to be replaced for whatever reason, please PM me, don't flake.

10-2. If you are V/LA, don't rely on me checking the thread / your signature. Please post in the thread notifying me of your V/LA or PM me about it.

10-3. If you replace out, you automatically lose. If you are someone replacing in, whether it counts as a win or loss depends on how long you have been replaced in for.

11. Vote counts will be made whenever I feel like it(or it is asked) and will be done in a separate post.

13. I hope it isn't necessary, but any modkills will negatively effect the rule-breaker's faction in some way which I see fit. If you are modkilled, you lose, no matter how the game ends.

14. I can change, add, or edit rules as I see fit. I will notify players in-thread if this happens.

15. I am not perfect. I may have got something wrong. I may have missed a rule out. Let me know, ask me questions, but don't abuse my mistakes.

15-1. To get my attention in-thread, use the MOD: <Your message> format. Or, y'know, you could PM me.

Special Rules

1. In this game you are fighting over a battlefield. The more posts you make in thread with applicable content(determined by me), the more your side advances against the opponent.

1-1. Double posts(or triple posts etc) will only count as a single post.

2. As such, this game does not have traditional win conditions. Each side wins when they move a predetermined amount of space across the battlefield. (and yes it is balanced and fair)

3. Mafia post counts will be multiplied by (# of townies) / (# of mafia).

4. Any third-party roles will not affect the # of posts for either town or mafia. However, it may play a part in their own powers(if they have any) or win condition.

4-1. Power roles(if there are any) may or may not be affected in a similar way by their post #.

5. The amount of ground controlled by each side will be updated at the start of every day. Note: post numbers will not be revealed, only the percentage of ground each side controls.

6. When a player dies, the amount of posts they were contributing to their side is removed.

7. Due to the inclusion of this mechanic, a side may win before, or after, where they normally would. (ie. mafia may still lose even if they have more then 50% of the remaining players)

8. If you have any questions regarding this mechanic, just ask. I may, or may not, answer it.

First off: I too believe we have a vigilante and not a serial killer, otherwise we'd probably had 2 nightkills this time as well.

@ CD: I've been suspicious of molestargazer ever since the first battlefield update yielded only moderate town advancement. Just think about it: At that time the top 3 posters (you, KevinH, molestargazer) had significantly more posts than the rest. If all 3 of you were townies, I'm sure the town would have gained more land. My suspicion is only reinforced by the fact that scum #1: Alasdair was basically inactive and scum #2: Chaoshawk only had a moderate postcount at the end of Day 1. This means that scum #3 had to be a very active person.

Since I sincerely believe you're a townie and KevinH was poven to be one, this only really leaves molesatrgazer as our last suspect. It's also ineresting that he went rather quiet lately, especially since a few of us started pressuring for his lynch. It's like he's trying to get out of focus.

So what do you think of Kazio and Nerau?

Remembering that it's possible that some of the post counts may be invalid.

@ccabal86 - take a look at the D1 post count.

D1 post count

49 CanucksDynasty

36 KevinH

26 molestargazer

19 Chaoshawk

16 ccabal86

14 Kaziocore

The difference between mole/chaos/ccbal86 is not that much.

Also considering that KevinH math puts you in with choas and alaisdair

Unfortunately, we don't know much about Kazio and Nerau either, there is of course a possibility that the remining scum is not molestargazer.

I would take KevinH's math with a grain of salt. Don't get me wrong, he did a great job and it served it's purpouse earlier as a general indicator/something to go off of. But there is a problem: Mod only counts "content posts", while we counted every post. The problem is we don't know what qualifies as a "content post", so our numbers may easily be off by 5-6 posts, making it risky to think our calculations are punctual.

it could also be that I've been ill and then started University.

I won't post any more since I've just come back from a night out and I don't want to make things any worse for myself.....

Ok, here are some suspicios posts from Chaoshawk, from after Day 1:

That's the thing this game is different but with this information we confirmed at least some people are not mafia. I switched for two reasons. One, I did not think molestar was mafia he was simply used to playing the regular way of lynching on day 1 simply to narrow it down. Second KevinH's strategy makes sense but I believe a lynch should be in order this time. I still stand by killing the inactive individuals. The vote number is a rough estimate and a good one but not precise since the MOD does not include double posts nor does he include useless ones. I believe only CanucksDynasty and KevinH are still cleared because of that.

He used this to explain why he unvoted on Alasdair, otherwise this was fairly early in the game.

Kasabian the thing is that you are only active when you are being targetted or discussed. Even if you are townie you aren't helping the town and it's not hard to see you as an inactive scummy. You did it last round. However, I do think Kaziocore is mafia but simply riding along with the generally agreed upon townies but I am leaning towards you being a scum due to your inactivity. ccabal86 makes a good point; Alasdair and Kasabian have been inactive and rather distant from us and someone should be lynched today. KevinH's plan of no lynch on day one was helpful to see the percentage's to give us a gauge but now is the time to act. I would rather vote for Alasdair but Kasabian has a better chance of being lynched unlike Alasdair, maybe next time.

Vote: Kasabian

It was a last resort it seems for Kasabian to save himself and out the true doc. KevinH proved very valuable this game and it appears they targeted him or no killed.

Since CD and KevinH were confirmed townies I knew mole was mafia and tried to keep out of his spotlight and the enmity between him and CD.

It would be very scummy of him to kill CD with the little feud and tension between the two. I'd figure the third(assuming its three mafia and no third party or is the third party) one is either Martino or Alasdair and leaning towards the latter since he hasn't been very helpful.

That actually isn't a bad idea but it won't matter what order as they do not have the advantage in post percentage anyways. It definitely would make sense to get rid of their most active poster.

In response to me proposing to lynch molestargazer as a possible mafia candidate.

In my experience it's usually a mafia stalker, the counterpart of the cop on the mafia side. I haven't played mafia much on these boards to gauge the roles here used.

No matter who is right, in an objective standpoint, me and Kasabian are most likely going to be dead before the next day. I claimed simply because people were pulling their votes away from kasa after he falsely claimed doc and if I did not counterclaim I would look rather suspicious and questioned why I have not counterclaimed. In this scenario we have at least a vague image of who is mafia whether me or Kasabian is mafia.

The cop should not out themselves at this point and only if it's dire enough to call for it.

CanucksDynasty is correct in interpreting what I said. I refer to the other low posters such as Martino and Nerau who could possibly be mafia instead of Alasdair. I still see the listed possible groups as good models if not entirely accurate in the case of discounted votes.

I'm inclined to agree with this statement and about people catching the 'hint' from the day before. Nonetheless Kasabian forced the situation of conflicting docs by claiming my role as we was being lynched. Also, Canucks the cop has been lying hints himself about his role for a while now so I wouldn't be surprised they would know.

I personally believe lynching molestar, at this point, does make sense and keeps the doctor alive for certain in the next day by the reasoning they wouldn't want to immediately out their own man between us two. However, a mafia roleblocker (as mentioned earlier) could simply block me from saving from then on now they that the real doc has been outted or kill me if they can not do that. A stalker would be just as bad and our cop would be even less safe.

I'd also like to hear opinions of people such as ccbal, Nerau and Alasadair who have been lingering and not adding to this for a while or when they do post they simply repeat what has been said or nothing worth knowing.

imo vote mole, he's a creeper this game and constantly wants to kill? Isn't that unlike a disciplined soldier!? Also, I'm sure you can discuss until the official post from Narsis is here.

Looking back on these, it may actually be that molestargazer is NOT mafia. But it's getting late, going to explain it tomorrow

Before day 3, CH must have planned to use bussing (I'm not sure if this is the correct term) on Mole.

It's good to note that he started to tell these things after day 2. The mafia must have thought that

Mole will be lynched on day 2.

Now on day 4, CH must have suggested Mole's name because

perhaps people would think that a fellow dying mafia won't just

suggest the scum.

Anyway we have two tries in catching the remaining scum (assuming there's no sk)

It's either Mole or you that I'm most suspicious of.

I would advise that after the battlefield % is updated and we know who are the probable suspects (ie. mole and ccabal) the remaining townies (ie. Nerau & Kazio) up their post count to surpass these 2.

To ensure that mafia cannot win via the battlefied %. The townie in the suspect pool should refrain from posting much which will force the mafia to refrain as well.

In these posts Chaoshawk is focusing on molestargazer quite a lot, usually saying we should lynch him. He says the same even AFTER he has been uncovered.

Why does he do this? It's like he's deliberately wanting to draw away attention from someone, and raise our suspicions against molesatrgazer. I'm beginning to think lynching molestargazer would be a mistake. He also suggested lynching Kaziocore instead of Alasdair, so he's probably a townie too. However, he doesn't say a peep about Nerau...

Seeing as the battlefield is so close...it's obvious that the mafia must be either mole or ccabal86.

@Kazio and Nerau - who do you suspect and why?

MOD: Up to which post does the battlefield include?

i assume thats from day 4 start

the one he forgot

I suspect ccabl simply b/c of the framing and trying to draw attention of himself right

just b/c Chaos didn't mention my name doesn't nessecary make me mafia

Jesus, please, PLEASE do not make me reveal why I said that.Vote: KasabianWell, this seems simple enough. If he's scum, it's good. If he's doc, we kill Chaos tomorrow.

@Mole - it's time to come clean...please explain.

Allright guys, tactics time. Since it's obvious I can't shake your suspicion I suggest we go along with the folloving plan:

At the end of this day you hang me. If this happens, the Vigilante MUST NOT KILL ANYBODY, or else we may easily lose. A nightkill happens. That should put us at 3 remaining players 2 town, 1 mafia. The battlefield updates should be quite informative at this point. Then, everybody should roleclaim, the townies should do it TRUTHFULLY. Here are the possible outcomes for that:

If the Vigilante was not killed during the night:

- 1 Vigilante, 2 Vanilla townies: You should vote for one of the Vanilla townies, whoever the battlefield % indicates.

- 2 Vigilantes, 1 vanilla townie: The mafia player claimed to be a vigilante you should vote for one of the Vigilantes with the battlefield % in mind.

If the Vigilante was killed during the night:

- 3 Vanilla townies: use the battlefield % to determine who to vote for.

What we absolutely SHOULDN'T do, is mark 2 players for death today (e.g: molestargazer and me). Because if you happen to miss the scum and lynch 2 townies...the mafia will win with the nightkill.

@Mole - it's time to come clean...

No it isn't.

Would someone be able to compile a list of posts up until the start of D4 so we can analyse the results properly? Saying it's either "me or ccabal" without supporting evidence and explaining it to everyone would make it very easy for scum to get away with a quicklynch.

Also, at this point I don't think there are people who we can trust to be 100% townie. That includes CD.

I would like to hear everyone's opinion on my proposal.

No it isn't.

Basically i believe each on of us is hiding something good or bad

so i fully agree with this sentiment

I'd say more of a legend than a myth...

Vote: Kaziocore

Rolefish ho!

Okay...

I thought there was because a few days ago,

Martino was saying that there was a cop.

I was thinking that it's best for the cop to come out now

if he has some information on the people left instead of the last day.

The reason is that if he came out later, the scum might counterclaim

and then there's a 50% chance of making a mistake whereas

if he came out right now, the scum wouldn't roleclaim.

Aren't I right here Mole?

I don't see how this is harmful...

No it isn't.

I swear...do you even bother to read my posts?

What I posted earlier...

Tally up to D3 night scene (not including D4 posts).

Alive

78 + 6 = 84 CanucksDynasty

35 + 1 = 36 molestargazer

32 + 4 = 36 ccabal86

26 + 2 = 28 Kaziocore

19 + 2 = 21 Nerau

Dead

71 KevinH

32 + 6 = 38 Chaoshawk

34 Kasabian

24 + 4 = 28 Martino

14 Alasdair

Mafia = 36*4 = 144

Townie = 84+36+28+21 = 169

Total = 313

54% T : 46% M

Obviously some posts don't count so since the battlefield is 51.5% : 48.5%

I don't see how Kazio or Nerau can be considered as possible mafia since their post count is less than either one of you.

The math also seems to support that there is no 3rd party (cuz no way can the % be that close considering my high post count).

1. How can there be 2 vigilantes and 1 townie?

2. Yes...it would be safer to follow your suggestion of the vigilante to not kill. However, it will also give the mafia a chance to persuade the townies to vote for each other.
