Well I'm thinking what if the added bonus of killing CD was

to put suspicion on d3mon who FOS both CD and Tracker.

The mafia could kill CD and in the next day start to make

a case against d3mon who incidentally posts sparingly

which makes him a nice target.

Well I don't know...

What do you guys think?

Well.. I find the mafia's choice of nightkill very odd.. Of all the players, CD's actions were most unusual.. making him a very likely lynch candidate on day 2.. but then I am still pretty new to this game.

Also, I would like to wait for the cop/Security guard (assuming there is one) to post before I vote for anyone.

It all needs to be considered but what might look scummy could easily be the scum trying to frame someone.

I don't think the scum cared that much about which townie they killed (they would hope to get a power role but couldn't know). After the fact, we can try to rationalize their choice but it doesn't really need to be rational.

Overhearing a bit of conversation in the back of the coffee shop, BeeBs starred back into his empty cup. It was time to make some commitments. He mulled over his options and caught himself biting his lip a few times, nervous that a new guy in town looking too aggressive could be bad, really bad. However, it was time to make a stand. 'If someone wanted CanucksDynasty dead, it would be someone with less of a connection, Kaziocore might be on to something. Why make things so obvious when the first day of this mess was such a wash?' he thought from the comfort of his seat, still on the opposite side of the coffee shop from the commotion.

BeeBs looked him over from the counter, what made this guy so scummy? He hadn't said a whole lot, B33Bs agreed with that, but he is just a quiet guy. A rookie, like him, hopefully with nothing to hide.

Now B33Bs had already decided to keep CanucksDynsaty in mind and not vote without some good evidence, but B33Bs hadn't seen anyone else with a badge in this town since he pulled up a week or so ago. Where is our evidence going to come from without some guts? In a sick sort of way that should be a metaphorical conclusion, but B33Bs was getting antsy and if voting, action and evidence in this town meant blood, so be it. With a more confident stride and a new resolve B33Bs approached the patrons in the back of the shop. No one looked up, intent on what they were doing and not interested in the opinions of the new guy. With a deep breath he said as matter of factly as he could:

Vote: KevinH

As all the heads in the shop turned around to face him now, he lost a little bit of the wind that had carried him across the room. Trying not to look too intimidated, he held as many stares as he could. With a shrug, "Challange accepted?" he said with chuckle. It wasn't funny. Adjusting his stance he began to ramble nervously and quickly, "Alright, look, if you want evidence I don't have it. However, I think that's the real rub. We don't have anything more to go on than we did yesterday. We could stand around and guess, but when was that ever good enough? It sure wasn't on day one. It wasn't enough to preemptively search for a future killer, maybe to have saved a life. Voting without evidence wasn't good enough for CanucksDynasty, it wasn't good enough for KevinH and it wasn't good enough for many more of you. So I ask you, KevinH why vote now? Why consider inactivity a valid set of evidence now as our numbers dwindle? It wasn't good enough before, why is it now? Who was that good enough for on day one? Nobody. None of you would have risked your lives to make such an accusation and a dead body doesn't change that in the slightest. So, no I don't have finger prints or a murder weapon. What I do have is consistency and its been lost on KevinH. Getting the voting started? Bah! We can't throw away our own because of their lack of contribution, that's what we decided on day one. No one was inactive 'enough'. Well who are you to set that scale KevinH? I don't know much about D3mon, and I certainly hope I'm not throwing myself under the bus for him now, but I don't see why a vote on a fellow towns person based on activity is any more plausible now. Unless you want to cause paranoia, fear and chaos. I, for one, don't. I won't tolerate it. Consistency is all we've got, and you sir, haven't got it.

I didnt find CD that unusual; he tends to play rather aggressively even from day 1.

If the cop was a one-use ability that got used last night, then I agree they should speak; they're not going to gain anything more and we'll have the information. If no one comes forward it would mean either the cop is not one-use, the cop is one-use and they didnt use it yet, or there IS no cop (which is very unlikely, I hope!).

Per earlier posts, I think the only real reason for taking out CD was his veterancy/experience - thats rationale enough. Trying to put suspicion on d3mon is a valid theory, but Kevin is correct in that applying TOO much analysis to limited information can produce logical-seeming theories that are 100% wrong.

Heh... it's far harder to pick through those walls of text to figure out what exactly you're saying! XD At least your vote is clear, though I'm going to have to reread that mass a few times to figure out your reasoning. If this is just another random vote though, I'd encourage you to unvote - day 1 is over, and we need to start basing our votes on something with more substance. I dont entirely like KevinH's time-based random vote either, but it did get this response I guess.

So not lynching at d1 and suggesting a no lynch at d2 is aggressive?

What's the difference between today and yesterday.

Essentially we're at d1 again unless the cop could

somehow speak up or try to implicitly implicate someone.

But yeah you're right...

BeeBs's other post was so long, that

I'm too lazy to read it for now. I wish

there's a tl;dr version or a shorter version.

The entire point of this game is to carefully analyze what people are saying and you want a summary? Seems a little bit counter productive. Regardless, allow me to assist you. He's voting for KevinH because of what he thinks to be an inconsistency in KevinH's logic patterns. He takes this as proof of deception.

(Nice RP post by the way BeeBs. However, I didn't think I'll be able to respond on every post with some RP. Maybe every few days. :wink2:)

However, I think that we have stumbled upon a valuable lead. CD was killed for his experience, or at least that's the running theory at the moment. However, the break in their logic comes as to why they chose CD. We've established that CD was a feasible lynch target for day 2, and yet they used their night kill to target him. True, he was experienced, but there are others here who are just as if not more experienced and were far less suspicious. Which begs the question of why kill the scapegoat when there were other targets to eliminate. My working theory is that some of the most experienced players here are the Mafia; hence the reason that by experience CD was picked instead of one of their own.

Feel free to counter this, as it is after all just a theory. But it seems to be the best we've got at the moment. I'm also assuming that we have no cop evidence to work with as it's been a few days now with no information released.

Speaking to this specifically:

Day 1 we expect to know nothing, and random/arbitrary votes are normal - all you can really do unless someone makes themselves look suspicious.

After day 1 we hope for cop info or use voting info from day 1 combined with the identity of who died to give us a little more to go on beyond randomness. If a cop speaks up, great; if not we can try and work with what little info we have. A few people voted, some FoSes were thrown, and CD died - thats SOME info, but I'd prefer to see a cop give us a solid starting point. If noone claims within the next few (real world) days, we'll have to start figuring out alternate candidates as KevinH said.

I'm not exactly following your logic here, so I'm not sure how to respond to that. If your theory is that since they took out CD the mafia must be other experienced players, Ive played a grand total of two mafia games thus far... kinda curious you singled me out instead of KevinH if you're going by that metric. I'm not going to counter-vote immediately since as you say it IS just a theory, but you seem to not be following your own logic here. I'd like you to clarify your thoughts more.

Bleh. Apparently the tags got messed up in my post. I'm not about to edit that and get myself modkilled, but I'll ask RoT to fix it x.x

MOD: Can you please fix the quote tag in my above post? Right now it looks like I'm voting for myself, which doesnt exactly make a lot of sense XD

True, you may not have a large amount of experience in number of games, but you have a thought pattern that seems developed. So while the numeric number may seem low, you are still one of the more experienced members here. That point segues nicely into my next: many of the players here are inexperienced. So while you may not be personally the expert on Mafia here, by comparison you are one of the most experienced players here. I'm perfectly willing to rescind my vote if you can provide a compelling response. Lastly, your actual experience doesn't matter for this purpose; only your perceived experience.

(Isn't this fun. I'm complimenting you, then voting to kill you.) :panicmode:

So far, it doesn't seem like the no-lynch on D1 was very helpful. We haven't come across any great info, so I believe we should try to vote someone today. I don't really have any great reasons to suspect anyone, but I am kind of leaning toward voting for Angel. He voted for CD, and has been kind of quiet so far, but I am not ready to put a vote just yet, although like i mentioned before, i think we should vote someone.

So you're okay with posts with at least three paragraphs long

where the only essential things we need are only 10% of it

FO: Just saying 'we have to vote for someone' doesn't help. That's what we did yesterday, and here we are at day 2 with only a few disparate pieces of information. I was hoping that if we voted for a no lynch yesterday that people would perk up and start discussing, but for the most part everyone just quickly agreed or stayed silent. We can't simply assume that something will fall onto our lap as the perfect evidence. So I suggest committing to a course of action (even if it's against me) because at this point we need something.

KC: The longer it takes someone to say what they are trying to convey, the better. That leaves more chances for the person to say something revealing helping us to deduce who the Mafia members are. For instance, from BeeBs' post I can surmise that he was nervous to stir the pot. Obviously this is because he was fearing being accused of being a Mafia member. Is he actually a Mafia member or just paranoid? Time will tell. While yes this revelation is not important by itself this game is all about making profiles for each player. Each player is the sum of his or her words, not just the current story.

As a side note, I'm just going to work off the assumption that we don't have a cop. Even if we do have one, it appears at this point that it is a one time use (since there is no report today) and speculating about a cop that may exist and that may have found something helpful is silly. Yes, the cop may be gathering reports and banking on avoiding dying before revealing them, but that is a long shot.

Consistency is all we've got, and you sir, haven't got it.

I am nothing if not consistent. On Day 1, it would truly have been a random lynch with the odds favoring hitting a townie. Now it's Day 2, and townies with power roles had a chance to use them, so the correct strategy is to vote and lynch somebody.

So far, it doesn't seem like the no-lynch on D1 was very helpful.

We have one more townie alive and that's very helpful.

Ideally, the cop should not reveal himself. If he sees a known townie about to be lynched, he should try to persuade the vote to go another direction. If he sees a known scum get some votes, he should try to reinforce.

At this time it appears that we either have a regular cop role or a one use role that was not used. No lynch on day 2 does not look like the best strategy to me, so I think I will take a wild guess...

This is just going to be a retaliatory vote.

I'll try and convey my opinions and thoughts clearly, if it seems like people aren't actually reading my posts because of the flavor elements, I'll try and be more clear in additional non rp posts or skip them all together, as I wouldn't want my fun to write me out of the game.

While I am disappointed you find it difficult to bring your self to read three paragraphs (if you can call it that) in a game where the fundamental requirement is that you read posts, I will stick to my earlier disclaimer. While I do agree that my post was verbose (it is after all rp :) ) I certainly do not agree that only 10% of my post was important, in fact I find that a little offensive, but I'm not really upset, just sayin'. I do not plan to include a tl;dr, I believe that you absolutely should read my earlier posts and would suggest that you do if you haven't. I can however, attempt to sum up some main points, as to not belabor you into any extra reading. I did agree from the beginning of my rp endeavor in this forum, that if my rp posts were unwelcome I would find another way to convey my thoughts. I do think that there will be certain subtleties that I won't be able to include in a sum up, but at least I can get my straightforward thinking out. I appreciate the defense Tracker, and I agree with you, but I did convey that if it wasn't something that people enjoyed I would find some other way to post.

Ironically, this post won't contain any rp. :P

Important things ahead!

That is certainly not consistent. You absolutely did not wait to hear from any townie power roles before casting your vote. Your entire justification was based on inactivity, criteria not good enough on day one. That criteria, if anything is ever more harmful to base a vote on day 2. If anything, according to this post, that would be exactly counter intuitive to your strategy of waiting for power roles as that justification requires no use of townie power roles at all. This is not consistency in the least.

^_________^________^

I agree with a post I forgot to quote from Nerau, it could be quite detrimental for the power role to come out and be obvious now. It is quite plausible that we could follow a cop for no longer than a day. I don't see much merit in a cop claiming at this point. Lead sure, but if I were the cop, I really don't think I would feel comfortable making that known, given the climate of this game. It is certainly not, in KevinH's words, ideal.

As for D3mon and Angel...seriously? A guess and a retaliatory vote? Neither of these helps the town in the least. D3mon, you have been, as KevinH pointed out, pretty silent. I get why you might want to do that, you're new, blah blah blah, but coming out with a wild guess is not helping your case at all. Angel, that is our second vote on D3mon, if we have three mafia (I think that was the earlier working number?), they could all vote for him right now and take him out of the game. We need to be careful. We could very quickly have a dead townie if we put too much vote pressure down.

An amendment, it would take six votes, not five to get a lynch. This makes a second vote a bit less weighty, though the subsequent points still stand.

Keep up the rp. I like reading it.

That is certainly not consistent. You absolutely did not wait to hear from any townie power roles before casting your vote.

I do not want hear from a townie power role first. Somebody saying that they know for sure that so-and-so is a townie would put a target on them for the night-kill.

Somebody had to place the first vote and there was no point in waiting. I'll switch my vote if I am convinced there is a better option.

(Isn't this fun. I'm complimenting you, then voting to kill you.) :panicmode:

I am flattered, certainly - and will readily grant that I have SOME experience from those two games, which is more than the newer players. However you still have not answered why your metric of 'experienced players' is limited to only myself and ignores KevinH/ccabal/Nerau - other players I from previous games who have played well in the past and demonstrated the same thought patterns you speak of. When you lay down a broad outline yet indicate only a single person, that makes me very curious indeed.

The line from your post that sticks out to me the most is "Lastly, your actual experience doesn't matter for this purpose; only your perceived experience." - That is equivalent to saying "you fall into this category because I say you do", since it is based on nothing more than your individual perception. Perhaps more importantly - for nearly the entirety of day 1 I was inactive and barely posted. How is it you are perceiving me as experienced if I've barely been here to do so? If you are attacking me based on nothing more than a gut-hunch, that's your prerogative - but CALL it that, so that we can be clear you are singling me out and not let you hide behind claiming that you are using a metric or some other form of generalization. Combined with my own inactivity so far this game which hasnt made me look all that good (I came in as a replacement after all), I'm not sure I find your described perception of my experience an entirely convincing argument for your vote against me.

I was originally inclined to find your theory little more than a distraction, in the same category as KevinH's time-based vote; a placeholder until something more solid surfaced. However, your following argument has made me take you more seriously as someone whose neutral-seeming intentions may be less than innocent.

FoS: Tracker

If I dont see a more convincing target soon, you're going to have my vote. If you retract your attack on me then I will be more prone to give someone else my vote today, but my FoS will remain - your own 'thought processes' are advanced enough to be taken seriously.

Worse thing is for a cop to come foward so early

It will only hurt instead of help

I really dont know where we got the idea that we have a different kind of cop this game. All we know at present is that noone has spoken up with role information - which due to the inactivity we saw on day 1 isnt exactly incredible news. After another day or two of no claim then I may be more inclined to believe in a normal cop however.

I'm not sure how to play a game with a 'normal' cop... both previous games have been one-shot security guards. When we dont have SOME source of information on day 2, then it makes me think a day 1 lynch would have been more valuable just to give us more voting records to work with. As it is right now we're almost as blind as day 1 - per KevinH's statement only one person would really know something, and it leaves the rest of us to possibly mislynch. The only real new information we're getting is seeing who is attacking whom; we need to get RoT to post up a votes summary.

General notes:

D3mon has two votes, but I don't call that significant since d3mon himself drew the second as a retaliatory vote from Angel.

Tracker voted for me out of the blue with an argument that boils down to his perceptions and a general-sounding rule that he does not apply generally. I find this suspicious enough that I have FoS'd him; his argument is not adding up to me.

Nerau and ccabal have hardly posted I think; need to see more of them.

-Preston

Finally, real discussion! Remember, in silence we die one by one. In violence we die in a big pile and have a great story to tell in the afterlife.

To answer your question about why you were singled out. As you have admitted yourself, you have been relatively inactive this game, and when you have posted they have been shorter than your analyses in the past (with a few excuses too). This is of course excluding your previous post; nice and meaty, excellent. And yes, the others you named are also experienced, and allow me to illustrate my current thoughts on each of the living players.

d3mon: Leaning to clean. Complete inactivity usually means innocence to be honest.

Preston: You already know a bit of this, but to elaborate. You are known for your long posts and thorough analysis, and yet in this game it has been lacking. While you claim that you are busy, I can't just take your word for it; this is a game of lying after all. So I'm sorry if you legitimately are busy, but I can't take that excuse into account.

ccabal86: Slightly suspicious. Has been rather quiet, but made a point of saying he was here. A deflection + lack of contribution if I ever saw one.

KevinH: Very suspicious. He did not attempt to get the discussion rolling but instead waited until others started it and then began to contribute. He also called for the cop to reveal himself, and while I don't believe there is one him attempting to get the cop ousted on day 2 is also suspicious. Now he is saying the cop shouldn't reveal himself.

Kaziocore: Seems... suspicious and recently annoyed. Could be from a lack of progress on information. Don't have a conclusion yet.

Nerau: My #2 choice for fingering as a Mafia member. Short, concise posts that leave a few questions that are never answered. Could just be a miscommunication, but I think not.

BeeBs: Roleplay means clean. Period. But in all seriousness, he's trying to start discussion based upon what we have instead of waiting for some advantage to present itself. A pro-town outlook if I've seen one.

Tracker: Seems to be playing some kind of unorthodox strategy. Maybe he's the Jester. :dancing:

Fighting Okra: Seems to have a bit of newbie insecurity. Don't have a conclusion yet.

Angel Cruz dela Sant: Leaning to clean just because he's made no attempt to defend himself. A Mafia member would take care to deflect any suspicion cast upon him, not let it sit and fester.

In terms of perceived experience, I was referring to the fact that my 'perceived' experience is quite low as I've never participated in an IRON Mafia game before. However, those that have been paying attention know that I've mentioned playing Mafia many times on other forums. In your case,a similar situation may apply; that is why I added the 'perceived' modifier as if the Mafia is targeted experienced players then only their perception of which are experienced matters.

To make a small confession, in reality you were my number 3 choice for Mafia. The vote against you was to see if you would start to contribute if you were threatened. You did, which is good (contribution!) and bad (...the timing). However, not automatically reacting in a revenge vote is a mark in your favor. Since the gambit has now served its purpose, onto the next target.

Unvote: Preston

Vote: Nerau

And sorry Nerau, no gambit here. They don't work if their timing is predictable; this is an old fashioned kill vote. And before you ask 'Why not KevinH?', I'm voting for Nerau because KevinH is talking. That means there is a greater chance of him saying something revealing to sway opinions. Nerau has remained silent (in substance) and as such I don't see this changing any time soon.
