I hope you and everyone who want the end of the 2nd Amendment get you way,so I can avoid the gun laws just like Potus ignored the drug laws.

I agree with you Black Rook you going to have a few bad cops around and there no good way to tell which from which. And this man was in the military too which sickens me because a soldier is suppose to defend their countrymen not go around and murder cops. I'm a soldier myself and this man is no better than the Taliban.

This man lost the title of soldier when he fired on our own people. He's a fucking traitor. He signed, just like you and I, to combat terrorism. Not just AL Qaeda and ISIS. His actions were that of a terrorist. Terrorizing innocent people to get a political goal reached. He's pathetic. Beyond that, a private first class after 4 years and a tour in Afghanistan? Doesn't sound like he was a stellar soldier. The fact it came out he was in anyway associated with our military disgusts me. It gives you and I a bad image. People are already having lower views of us, this shit bag just added to it.

And I don't believe the police brutality (which I even admit, while supporting police and agents daily at my job, it's an issue.) The reason in my opinion is backdoor leadership.

Any other job, someone Fucks up, you tell him.

"Hey Joe, you keep fucking up these papers." And if Joe keeps fucking up, he's gone.

"Hey Bob, you keep showing up late." He keeps showing up late he's gone.

Hell, even the military. When the war first broke out, there were alot of civilian casualities. A woman carrying groceries in a bag. Shot because bag could've been a bomb. Kid in the dark digging a hole. Shot. Shovel could've been a gun. The military didn't make excuses saying "the Marines and soldiers felt threatened." They said "they followed protocol, and we're changing that protocol to prevent this from happening again."

When someone gets shot in the military (other side, not ours.) You have to explain why you shot them, what your deadly force authorization was, and they bombard you with question upon question trying to make you feel guilty in some cases. It's backdoor leadership. Making sure you took a life that had no other option.

You dont see cops changing protocol. You don't see cops asking hard questions or actively trying to charge their cops. Look at what just happened for example. A "veteran" killed 5 cops and hurt 5 more and a civilian. You don't see us saying "he felt threatened." Or making excuses for him. Hell, the groups I'm a part of are pissed as hell he calls himself a vet.

Cops don't do that. They make excuses for every cop. "That cop was threatened." "Don't have anything to hide, don't run." "He was a thug." "Cops work hard and are under stress."

So are 99% of working adults, but if we fuck up. We're fired. And before you say "David, you work with cops. Aren't you part of the problem?" I do express my concerns to cops. Beyond that, and why this was so shocking to me, Dallas isn't as corrupt as people believe. There isn't much brutality here. The cops here care. This man didn't shoot cops that had a bad history. He shot innocent, good men. One of which was my neighbors brother, who I had the pleasure of hanging out with on multiple occassions.

Tl;dr cops need more accountability

Whenever I've been asked to stop (minor silly traffic offenses ), I'm just respectful and do EXACTLY what is requested of me. There have been times I've been just let go because frankly, the police didn't expect me to be so polite and respectful, they expect you'd argue back and justify whatever mistake you did. It has become kind of a subculture to shit on them for everything, it's a shit and miserable job as it is, not every police officer is crooked. I've managed to talk myself out of multiple minor fines by just being a decent guy towards them.

Come on mate even I wanna kill our Pakistani police scumbags. How can you be so respectful to the people who won't even do their jobs.

So essentially in your opinion the citizen should be responsible for proving cops wrong rather than cops having to demonstrate that they adhered to the law? That is definitely backwards.

What would happen is the citizen brings his complaint, and the Police would have to prove that their actions were within the law. The victim would also have to show evidence as to how what was done to him is against the law, etc, however, the onus is on the Police to prove they were, in fact, within the law.

Well there are a few problems with that;

1. If you have to bring a complaint, the onus is on you to prove the police acted outside of the law. So, yes, the attitude of total subservience to a police officer (even if they are acting unlawfully) and then court action later gives a massive protection to the police officers as you have to demonstrate (often in a word vs word situation) that they acted outside the law.

2. By not challenging an officer you can in fact make illegal actions legal. For example, if you are stopped without reason and the officer asks you to get into the car to answer some questions, and you comply with that, he hasn't arrested you. Therefore its not an unlawful arrest or an unlawful stop and search. By forcing the officer to declare you are under arrest or have been detained for stop and search, his action then becomes unlawful.

3. By not challenging an officer and having a culture of "do whatever the police tell you" it will create a culture in the police that the norm should be total obedience. Given the US police already are trigger happy maniacs in a lot of cases, that is not something to be encouraged.

Now of course starting fights is stupid and there is a difference between assertiveness and rudeness. You do not have to be rude when asking an officer if they are arresting you, why they have stopped you, and if necessary, what legal grounds they have for their action.

And if you think that legal action after the fact is effective, compare the difference between these two statistics.

US police shoot dead about 1,000 people a year. Federal Agencies do not even know the precise number.

UK police must report all shootings by officers to an Independent Commission that will investigate all cases. Total shot dead by police in 2016. 2. Total in 2015. 3. Total in 2104. 1.

Want to really tell me that the ability to bring legal proceedings after the fact is working?

Seeing a police officer kill someone, does not give you legal or moral authority to begin assassinating members of law enforcement. We do not rule by Anarchy.

If you slapped me, you can't tell me i'm wrong if I turn around and decide to shoot you in the head.

The police brutality in America is something that has been going on for years, not just with ethnic minorities, although moreso.

It should really have been expected that it's only a matter of time before somebody explodes when they're continuously pushed. I don't condone killing cops or anyone for that matter, but it doesn't seem to us outsiders like your country gives a shit at all about the police brutality that continues to occur

Of course 'l' can. Nothing, but nothing, gives you the right to decide to shoot someone in the head. Nothing! The fact that you might feel humiliated or agrieved because someone slapped you is a horrid excuse for justifying taking somones life.

My point is, an action returns a reaction.

However I decide to react is never too irrational and is entirely up to me. If you slapped me you should not expect a slap in return, you should expect a reaction at my own discretionary.

Solution: Don't ruffle someone's feathers and you live peacefully.

There's racists in every job, thr cops who were shot weren't guilty of anything. While an event like this isn't a shock it's horrific and we should treat it like such.

I don't even think racism is the issue. I think things appear racist as a result of police tactics. In reality, the real divide is with social class, not race. Plenty of white people are also abused by police. When it all comes down to it, minorities make up the vast majority of arrests, fines, tickets, shootings, etc. because police departments throw more resources into high crime areas. Those areas are almost always predominantly minority populated. So the result of such tactics should be obvious.

I wouldn't say a 'few' tbh.

532 people have been killed by US police officers in the last 6 months.

Organised terrorist groups don't even hit that number.

If we go by last years number, which is disputed so we will just round it off to 1,000 people killed by police, then if this were a war, the UN would consider it a full scale war, only surpassed by "major conflicts" or "major wars" (1,000-9,999 killed in the past or current year).  Ukraine and Libya fall into this category.

For another comparison, the Troubles in Northern Ireland, a 30 year long insurgency, saw the security services kill less than 1,000 people in total. In total 3,000 people lost their lives, however that is an average rate of 100 a year. Ok, so the US population is 150 times that of Northern Ireland, but still leads to the current levels of gun violence in the US are equivalent to an armed insurgency determined to overthrow of the state.

It's a falcy in argumentation not a point Samus.

There is no argument, least of all the one you just made, that justifies certain reactions. Your reactions are not only or simply up to you, you are not siply 'allowed' to do whatever you want simply because you want to do it. If you really think that you are at liberty of reacting in any manner of your choice and completely disproportionally to the supposed slight, insult, whathaveyou, then you should move to a deserted island and practice it there.

Guns guns guns
Do guns not exist in England? Bad things happen because bad people exist. Attempting to remove guns would only take guns away from those who follow the laws.  Why is this still even a discussion? People who are pro guns will be until they decide themselves that they shouldn't be around, what we should be saying is that this is horrible, not blaming a tool that was used immorally.

I agree with you, however in Dallas it was a different case. This nut job blamed a good police department on the actions of monsters from another state. Below is a graph for misconduct per state for 2009. The average for Texas remains about the same up til now and Dallas is usually below the state average.

Guns are very heavily restricted. No handguns, authorisation from a doctor plus valid reason to own it for a rifle, somewhat less restrictive for shotguns but still licenced.

Nowe it doesn't eliminate guns but since 1990 there have been only two mass shootings in the UK. Firearm prevelance is so low that routine patrol officers do not carry guns.

To see what effects super strict gun laws have, look to Japan: http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2012/07/a-land-without-guns-how-japan-has-virtually-eliminated-shooting-deaths/260189/

Even the Yakuza don't carry firearms anymore...

It is a lot easier keeping something out of a small Island versus a giant landmass that has huge land borders.

Also there are huge stockpiles of the tools here in the US. Plus machinery to make them. To say it is near impossible wouldn't be a stretch.

Indeed. If the US had restricted guns a hundred years ago or more, it might be realistic. But to try banning guns these days? I think it would be about as effective as the war on drugs.

You are not aiming for total elimination. You are aiming for a reduction. Every reduction in gun ownership would save lives. Even if you ignore use of guns for crime, huge numbers of suicides in America are carried out using guns. Given suicidal urges are often short lived and there is plenty of evidence that reducing the means of suicide available reduces he number of suicides, the amount of guns available is directly causing deaths.

Finally a reasonable argument. Too often I see anti-gun arguments be unrealistic, or based on some sort of nonsense. That reasoning alone I can agree with restricting how common guns are.

You know, I was sceptical of these allegations of racially biased Prolice brutality, but this kind of changed my mind:

Let's be honest, one cannot be any more compliant than the guy in the video, and he still ended up getting shot...

This is nothing new, majority of these other incidents have been in situations similar to this. People just ignore it until they see a completely stupid situation which is incredibly unbelievable happen - like this one.

everyone just take 4 minutes out of your day to watch this, please I promise it'll be worth the watch

EDIT: Although the title looks racist, I can assure you it's not

watched it, mostly obvious stuff, confronted with simple power-statements people tend to do simple power-statements.

It is just that getting shot is the most glaring thing, sadly no statistic gets conveyed regarding the blacks shot while not needed to be shot. Put that against whites shot for no reason.
