Pokemon Go

Anyone in IRON been playing this? If you wondering what this is, Pokemon Go is a new augmented reality game that utilizes your phone's camera and GPS location. Its a free game that runs on Apple and Andriod phones. You walk around outside and Pokemon will randomly appear on your phone screen, you then throw a pokeball to catch them. There are some team like features where your team color can control real world locations. Anyone on your team can go to that place to train or hold some type of an event. Other team colors can attempt to steal that location from your team if no one is there to protect it. The game definitely encourages exercise and exploration.

Some of my friends and co workers have been playing and its downright hilarious watching them walk around. I was at a party a couple days ago and 2 of my friends insisted they had to go on a walk to look for Pokemon. Then yesterday I was hanging out with a friend and he just had to walk around a nearby park to see what he could find. He got incredibly excited when he saw a battle going on in the area (other people playing the game) but he wasn't a high enough level to join in.

I've heard stories ranging from funny to absolute stupidity. One of my coworkers told me one of his friends almost got hit by a car trying to catch a pokemon. Another one of my coworkers was walking around a bunch of heavy machinery being operated trying to chase a pokemon. Also, the same guy I mentioned earlier about walking around the park, he was out driving and decided to catch a pokemon while waiting at a red light. Thankfully none of these people were injured but I can relate to how addicting this game is.

I have a Windows phone so I unfortunately haven't been able to play, although given the game's immense popularity I would imagine a version will be ported over in the relatively near future.

If you do plan on trying it out, just remember it has bugs and it does drain battery life quicker than most games/apps.

Finally caught one of my faves and nearly evolved the fire house. Bigger Pokemon seem to be spawning more and my area I see large groups glued to there phones. I know they are playing Pokemon go. I keep hearing Pokemon names and there ages are 20-40. I feel more Pokemon are spawning due to lots of people playing in my area/im a higher Lvl now. Or combination of both. I see allot of groups around sundown also when it's cooling down and no direct sunlight. So maybe best to try to look to see if there are more spawning while the larger groups are looking to see if my theory is correct.

It sounds fun, and can get behind what the company is trying to do (though concerns about data mining are somewhat worrisome). It's a shame that I'm completely uninterested in Pokemons.

Also, glad to see something non-shitty come to the mobile

Yeah I have heard of and seen people doing this.  My own take on it, take it at face value

Seeing grown "men" in their mid 20's trying to catch Pokemon is rather depressing to watch, not because they are crap and don't catch anything, more the fact that they are walking around like zombies glued to their phones, children in adult bodies.

Dude, I'm 23 and I am kind of enjoying this. *blush* It's out of nostalgia.

I still got a load of cards; I get the nostalgia.

None the less,  I still find it disconcerting.

Young lads are supposed to be out chasing tail not looking into their phones.  I have yet to see any females looking for Pokemon.

Seems like a fairly big project; I guess there is some agency or other bankrolling the public tech front company for reasons unknown.

There is more spawning since people tend to drop lures at pokespots. Using essence will also increase your chances of getting pokemon but not necessarily rare or what you want. I'm unsure if just being in a group increases your chances or not but I think being near a pokestop will. Just find a nice little block with plenty of spots that's a 5-minute walk I'm sure you'll find plenty. Don't forget, the time of day will affect what pokemon you get.

To be fair, at launch there was a bug where the game accessed more data than required with google. It's been patched since to be limited so that your information won't be as compromised.

@Bill N Ted: I've seen several girls, usually with guys lol

gyms in a pub

Sounds like the perfect reason to start playing.

Yeah, saw a recent news report of a guy playing this in a public park, so glued to his phone, he didn't know anyone was around him until he got punched in the face. had his phone stolen.

Edit: and yes, I started playing. My kids have loaded the game on their phones, but I don't know if they've actually had a chance to start playing yet. I downloaded it yesterday, but was driving home from a family vacation. I got myself to level 4 so far today. See if I can make 5 tonight before I get home.

Hey guys! I'm level 4 and going and was already planning to join Mystic. Hoping to get to 5 during my trip to Dallas from San Antonio. 4 hours of Pokemon fun!

It just came out today here in the Netherlands and the server is immediately bust the same day :)

It's been busy since the game came out. I still haven't gotten my daughter an account to play yet, because the server keeps erroring out. I picked her up from cheer practice last night, and she played on my phone until we got home. I can't complain, she got me several additional pokemon that I would have had to pass up, and got me to level 6.

Just make sure that you join Team Mystic when you reach level 5!

I went Team Valor. Funny thing is, my daughter was asking me about it, and said something about wanting to be able to join Mystic because someone she watches on Musically is Team Mystic. She's 9 and easily influenced.

Girl: I'm not interested

Hung: I have a 1k CP lapras

Girl: take me

Lmao. I had to reply. That made me laugh.

So true

lmao We went on a second pokedate. She's really clingy too turns out.

Are you into that though?

Clingy enough to get her to create a nation and join IRON? ;)

Yes but she'd probably spill all our private details, lies, and my public information to spite me if I upset her. That's what a lot of clingy girls do if things don't go their way I've noticed, the spoiled ones anyways,

Hell yes I'm into pokedates! Went on one with a different girl last night, but she's about her pokemon, so it was definitely fun. 4 hours of hunting pokemon.
