Plane Crash II - Game Thread - GAME OVER!

Another day, another plane. Captain "Anger-Management" Tilden (As he was known secretly by the crew) had always been proud of how he handled the flights on his plane. Always smooth, orderly, and comfortable for the passengers. And he intended to keep it that way, he reflected, carrying his bags through the airport terminal. Today's flight was to be a tedious one over the atlantic. But never mind.

Got to keep alert, he mused as his bags went through a scanner. Terrorists were everywhere these days. The takeoff was, as always, impeccable. The passengers seemed fairly happy, apart from that hungover one complaining about the lack of painkillers, and Tilden settled himself down for a smooth flight.

A few hours into the flight, the door to the cockpit was nudged open, breaking the silence. Tilden stiffened. It was probably that flight attendant. It was no secret amongst the crew that Tilden had a thing for her. But he didn't care. He wasn't about to ruin his chances by shouting again.

"Ah, Marie, could you-"

That was as far as he got. Looking at the reflection in the window, he saw a man in plain clothes. A passenger? He was striding up to Tilden with purpose. Tilden's eyes widened as he saw the flash of a blade. He opened his mouth to speak, but couldn't. A knife was swiftly drawn across his throat. He choked, swiftly passing into unconsciousness.

And yet no-one noticed the 2 dead pilots in the cockpit. Marie, the flight attendant, was about halfway through serving drinks. She glanced to the left, flashed a fake smile to the passenger before seeing he was unconscious.

She sighed, and rolled her eyes, recognising the passenger as the one with the hangover. She was about to turn away, when something caught her eye. Had he spilt coffee on himself? She sighed again, reaching for some napkins.

Wait. That wasn't coffee.

She screamed, noticing the blood spread out over the man's torso. The passenger's heads turned round to look at her. The man's pocket identified him as a Police officer.

It was happening again...

I still believe that ACKPLUTO and CD are scum. Both for the reasons I've stated yesterday. They haven't really given me any reason to believe otherwise today.

I don't agree with your reasoning why CD is town. Had you been killed, I am fairly certain that CD would have gone down. There were far more suspicions on CD yesterday than there were on Aquinas.

I'm not sure yet who the final scum is. I was pretty much convinced that EM was a townie yesterday and even though it is a little remarkable that he is not voting for ACKPLUTO or Falzis, I still believe him to be town. I have had you and Aquinas in my townie list pretty much since the beginning so that leaves Falzis. But I honestly can't say I'm really suspicious of him. Just that if we lynch ACKPLUTO and CD, they both turn out to be scum and the game isn't over, then he would most likely get my vote.

I don't see how you can think Falzis is scum if he voted for ACKPLUTO (whom you also think is scum).

@Martino - also if ACKPLUTO is scum and you think I am scum. Why would ACKPLUTO vote for me if today was LYLO??

Unvote

Vote: ACKPLUTO

As I said before...I'm townie but I'm not dead yet.

So that means ACKPLUTO and EM are scum.

This is how I think it is for 3 mafia...

Martino = townie (voted for ACKPLUTO)

Falzis = townie (voted for ACKPLUTO)

Aquinas = townie (came to my defense when he didn't have to)

CanucksDynasty = townie (me...can't say much else)

ACKPLUTO = mafia (voted for me...and I'm not dead yet).

EM = mafia (voted for me...and I'm not dead yet).

Narsis = mafia (cuz he's the only one left).

I give Narsis credit for flushing out the game-breaking strategy that Firkked suggested.

However...I still didn't quite believe the roleblocking claim.

Also...you picked up the "pills" the night before in a room that was previously occupied by SJ, junkahoolic, and Firkked.

I have a feeling CD might be bussing. He only voted against AKC when EM voted against him and when it was already a consensus by myself, Narsis, and others that AKC is indeed the inactive scum.

Vote: CanucksDynasty

EBWOP: I didn't unvote.

You would be wrong.

And even if I were to be bussing...then why not kill of ACKPLUTO anyways?

As I said, I believe both CD and AKCPLUTO to be scum. So we may as well lynch CD today.

Congratulations on lynching another townie!!!

wait is that four votes against CD?

if he is townie i'm going to throttle the neck of Falzis or Martino if one of them is townie(but my gut says Falzis is townie).

if he's mafia...not that i'd be surprised but i would wonder greatly about Martino's quick hammer.

gah i hope and pray i was wrong about CD.

I'll put in my Bah!!

Go town.

Hey guys. just thought i'd mention...if mole doesnt show up in a couple days...we'll need to figure something out. :P

I'm here.

Vote count to come shortly.

CD - myself (it's AKC not ACK), EM, Falzis, Martino (per post 1436)

Who did Narsis vote for? Am I missing anyone?

VOTE COUNT

Not Voting (1): Narsis

7 alive, 4 to lynch.

There was an eerie sense of finality as the inhabitants of the island gathered around the plane wreckage and began their daily conversing. Hope was running out fast. Throughout their time on the plane, and since the crash, they had failed to find a single member of the ones plotting against them. There was doubt growing. Was there REALLY anyone on the plane? Did someone hide? Did they die in the crash? Were the enemies watching as they killed each other. The inhabitants, tired after sleepless nights, seemed to by mutual agreement trudge to a nearby beach.

Some sat down, others paced around madly. Fingers started to get pointed again, and eventually, they settled on CanucksDynasty. A group of four townies grabbed him and dragged him, legs leaving a macabre trail in the sand, down to the sea. He began to protest his innocence, but a strong pair of hands grabbed him and shoved his head under the water. His limbs began to thrash wildly, clawing, kicking at anything within their reach - but it was pointless. After a minute, the group let out a sigh and stepped back, the body sinking. It was grabbed and dragged unceremoniously back onto the beach, where the search began. A more frantic search of a small pack he had carried was conducted - revealing a Megaphone. A small sticker on it identified it as being from the plane. Apart from that... nothing.

CanucksDynasty, CRIER, has been killed.

Three of the group who had submerged Canucks under the water trudged off into the forest slowly. No-one followed them. It was all getting too much. Only when the sun begin to descend did the remaining three - Aquinas, Electric Mango, and Narsis - begin to question their comrades. They all turned as one towards the forest as footsteps were heard - and out of the forest came the mafia, each clutching a handgun.

Aquinas' eyes widened as the three silently raised their pistols and fired. In unison, the three townies fell, some with a cry, others silently. The mafia watched without mercy as they crouched over their victims and finished them off. The crack of gunfire echoed around the island. Slowly, they put the guns away. One took out a satellite phone and began to dial. Their job was done.

Narsis, INSOMNIAC, has been killed in the endgame.

Electric Mango, TOWNIE, has been killed in the endgame.

Aquinas, HAZY TRACKER, has been killed in the endgame.

THE MAFIA ...

Falzis (Godfather)

Martino (Roleblocker)

AKCPLUTO (Goon)

... WIN!

Worry not. Game details, full explanations of the role mechanics will come shortly.

Good game mafia, you guys played it well.

CD, sorry I didn't believe you, hind sight is 20/20, I thought for sure you were going to be mafia.

I would have like to have been more active in the end game. It sucks not having a pc, I never had any time to go back and study anything that has been going on recently. I'll most likely be sitting out for the next game so I hope you guys have fun. Maybe I'll get to jump in as a replacement.

That was a crazy game.

I didn't peg AKCPLUTO with Falzis and Martino.

I blame EM for voting me (j/k) :P

Good game...although quite a bit long (3 months?).

Didn't help the town since we got sooooo many replacement players.

It was hard to keep track of posts/comments, etc.

Nice play mafia.

Yeah...sucks your computer is on the fritz.

You might have had time to review AKCPLUTO's vote on me when he had 2 votes placed on him by Martino and Falzis.

We could have lynched a mafia.

But...I thought for sure you were mafia  ... so what do I know...yuk yuk.

NIGHT ACTIONS

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff77/molestargazer/NIGHTACTIONSPC.png

HOW THE GAME MECHANICS WORKED

1. Room System & Rule 5-1 - Note to self: Don't underestimate your players....

The maps were prepared months before the game was voted to start. The basic concept was simple - players would assign themselves to a room every night, and things would work around that. It looked promising - there were fantastic ideas for new powerroles that could operate using the confines of these rules. The original plan, was of course, Rule 5-1, which stated that you could only move so far.

But of course, the townies came up with a strategy I didn't think of - which would, essentially, break the game mechanics and lead to an almost guaranteed win for the town, which could have been resolved by merely not having Rule 5-1 in the first place. But never mind. I had to change things. I scrapped Rule 5-1 and gave the game its 'mystery' mechanic which would, in the first place, have worked. But I couldn't keep the mafia restricted - the likelihood was that the town would still base their plans around this. So I removed all restrictions on the mafia's movements. That, I thought, would give them ample room to work and still let the powerroles I had planned for. Well, you can be the judge of how it turned out.

2. Powerroles - Note to self: Don't let your game start without it being prepped....

For the purpose of using the room system, the town would receive 3 of my 4 newly created powerroles. In this game, EVERY single pro-town member started off the game as a townie, with no special powers at all. Powerroles would be found, picked up as 'items'. These could be found in varying rooms throughout the course of Nights 1, 2, and 3. Each night had a 'Main' powerrole, which was more powerful and could only be found in one room, in one night. Each night also had a backup item - given randomly to a townie if no-one found the main one.

NIGHT ONE

  • Crier - Megaphone - Would let out a shout if anyone entered the room he was in. (Found by CanucksDynasty)
  • Epipen Doc - Epipen - Would act as a doc, but if the mafia didn't target whoever he protected, the target would have a 50% chance of death the next evening.

NIGHT TWO

  • Bulletproof Townie - Bulletproof Vest - Became immune to nightkills.
  • Hazy Tracker - Monocle - Could track someone, but only if they came within an adjacent room / area as him. (Found by Aquinas)

NIGHT THREE

  • Insomniac - Caffeine Pills - Would hear if anyone travelled through a room adjacent to, or in, his. (Found by Narsis)
  • Paranoid Knife Owner - Knife - Would kill anyone who targeted him, apart from the mafia roleblocker (This was decided pre-game to avoid any confusion. Luckily (or not?) this role was never found).

The crier was originally designed as something else - I forget what - and had to be rapidly redesigned when I noticed a fatal flaw in the idea at the start of D1. But I think it turned out OK.

3. Finally - Note to self: It's actually gone half-well?! That can't be right.

I hope you guys have at least had a shot at enjoying this slightly fragmented, inactivity-riddled game. I'd love to hear any criticisms, comments, or questions you have about... anything at all (about MAFIA. I don't know the meaning of life).

Uh. ANY QUESTIONS?

  • Author

OH, AND HERE'S SOME ROLE PMs.

Hm. You were just starting to enjoy the in-flight movie too.

A sudden scream tears your eyes away from the screen. You lift up your headphones curiously to hear a crew member crying about a dead guy in his seat. What? You get up from your seat and scramble over to see what's going on.

You see a man surrounded by a pool of his own blood, still in his seat-belt. Behind him, and empty row. Looking closer, you see a torn hole in the back of the man's seat where he was stabbed.

A group of passengers clump together and decide to find whoever's hijacked the plane.

You won't feel safe staying in your seat at night though...

You are a TOWNIE.

You have no powers other than your wits and your vote during the day.

You win when all of the Mafia Members are dead, and at least one pro-town member survives.

To confirm your role, please reply to this Role PM stating your confirmation and quoting me Rule #7-2.

Always being a nervous flyer, the scream certainly didn't help your nerves.

Tilting your head slightly to see what was going on, you see a stewardess screaming about a dead guy. Where are the doctors when you need them? You try and put it out of your mind, and settle down to your book again, trying to get the scream out of your head. After a few minutes, you give up and turn around again nervously. Babble to seems to indicate that the man was murdered.

Murdered?! You don't want to die! Oh, god!

No.

Wait.

Calm down.

You can help out. You clamber out of your seat carefully, stumble as the plane banks a little, and decide to help out.

You are a TOWNIE.

You have no powers other than your wits and your vote during the day.

You win when all of the Mafia Members are dead, and at least one pro-town member survives.

To confirm your role, please reply to this Role PM stating your confirmation and quoting me Rule #10.

Damn, that upgrade to Business Class was worth it.

You lean back, trying to feel superior over the fact that YOUR disgusting airline food was served before the people's in Economy. It's not an easy feat. It doesn't improve the taste.

Never mind. You've just got a drink and are quite happy about that, even though they can't serve you too much in case you get drunk and try and kill the pilot. Honestly! What kind of criminal would pay £1000 for a flight? These people made no sense. But that's the world.

A scream comes up from economy. Could those people not stay quiet for a few hours?!

Evidently not. You climb out of your seat, along with a few others, and go to see what had happened. Someone had been stabbed? That's not on.

You are a TOWNIE.

You have no powers other than your wits and your vote during the day.

You win when all of the Mafia Members are dead, and at least one pro-town member survives.

To confirm your role, please reply to this Role PM stating your confirmation and quoting me Rule #3 in the Game Mechanics section.

You KNEW that extra drink in the terminal was a bad idea. There's little worse than clambering over other people's knees to try and get to the bathroom, then having some cabin crew guy telling you to stay in your seat when you're about to stain it yellow.

Still, you made it without staining anything. A scream jolts you back to reality. Bloody hell, that was close. You step back out into the cabin to see a stewardess screaming about a murder. What the hell?

After a few minutes' discussion with some other concerned passengers, you've decided to track down those who did it so you can get on with your flight.

You are a TOWNIE.

You have no powers other than your wits and your vote during the day.

You win when all of the Mafia Members are dead, and at least one pro-town member survives.

To confirm your role, please reply to this Role PM stating your confirmation and quoting me Rule #4 in the Game Mechanics section.

You had not been happy about the failure of your mafia's last, pathetic, attempt at taking down a plane, and killing that businessman and diplomat. How difficult could it be?!

Still, even though they got rescued, those who failed had paid for their inadequacies. Which is why you decided to oversee this mission yourself. On cue, yourself and your fellow mafia members on board quietly got into action. You stabbed a policeman in his seat, and the others dealt with the pilots.

Damn. You cringe as a Stewardess screams, noticing the dead passenger. Good thing you moved away from him, then. It gets worse - some idiotic passengers have decided to try and hunt you down. Looks like you'll just have to blend in.

You are the MAFIA GODFATHER.

Fellow Mafia members are Martino (Mafia Roleblocker), and angel of doom (Mafia Goon).

You may talk during NIGHT PHASES ONLY in this QuickTopic.

Once per night, you may choose a kill for your mafia group, by PMing me the TARGET, and WHICH MEMBER will carry out the kill. Remember, the member carrying out the kill must either be in the same area as, or be in an area adjacent to, the target.

You win when your group either equals or outnumbers the town, or nothing can be done to prevent that.

To confirm your role, please reply to this Role PM stating your confirmation and quoting me Rule #4.

This time, you wouldn't fail. Failure wasn't an option.

You grin at this as you settle back into your seat in first-class (Who says crime doesn't pay?). After all the worry about airport scanning, you'd managed to smuggle the knife through quite happily. You could feel it weighing down on your chest as you take another drink. Not too much though. That could be disastrous.

With a glance back at your partner, you get up carefully and make as if to go to the bathroom. Your partner follows. Without exchanging another look, you slide open the door and enter the cockpit. You see the pilot straighten up. You head for him, your partner the copilot.

"Ah, Marie, could you-"

You draw the knife across his throat quickly. Sorted. You take out a small device the boss had given you, and find where to plug it in in the cockpit. Putting the now bloodied knife back in your jacket, you leave the cockpit and sit down.

You are a MAFIA ROLEBLOCKER.

Fellow Mafia members are Falzis (Mafia Godfather), and angel of doom (Mafia Goon).

You may talk during NIGHT PHASES ONLY in this QuickTopic.

Once per night, your Godfather may send in a kill for the mafia detailing who the target is and who carries out the kill. Remember, the member carrying out the kill must either be in the same area as, or be in an area adjacent to, the target. If the godfather dies, any remaining members may send in a kill.

Once per night, you may send in a name to me of someone whom you wish to stop from carrying out any night actions. They will know they have been targeted, but not by whom. Remember, you may only target someone in the same area as, or in the area adjacent to, you.

You win when your group either equals or outnumbers the town, or nothing can be done to prevent that.

To confirm your role, please reply to this Role PM stating your confirmation and quoting me Rule #6.

This time, you wouldn't fail. Failure wasn't an option.

You grumble as you settle down into your seat in the Economy section of the plane. Why did the other guy get first-class and you had to rub shoulders with a bloke who looked like he hadn't showered in about a year? Still. The plan would make you wealthy beyond your wildest dreams - and you didn't intend to mess up like the last group did.

Having taken care of the pilots with a fellow mafioso, you return to your seat. Across the aisle, you see the Stewardess notice the dead cop. You squirm in your seat guiltily, but try not to worry about what would happen next. You watch interestedly as a group of people gather round the dead man, and cringe as they decide to hunt you down. Looks like you're going to have to blend in.

You are a MAFIA GOON.

Fellow Mafia members are Falzis (Mafia Godfather), and Martino (Mafia Roleblocker).

MAFIA - IF YOU'RE OK WITH YOUR QUICKTOPIC BEING POSTED, FEEL FREE TO POST IT.

When I found the megaphone...I thought it was a great item.

But after a few questions to mole...it had severely limitations.

It only works when someone enters the room.

It would have been great if it worked when someone passes through the room too.

For example...on N2...when I was in Room 6...I could have discovered that SinKon/AKCPLUTO crossed over to kill in Room 9.

But that was not the case.

I like the idea of townies picking up items to become "power roles".

I don't know if I like the idea of picking up items in subsequent days.

This is another limitation for the town as they don't get items/power roles right off the bat.

1. Was just part of the game mechanics. Sorry you didn't like it.

2. This was designed so the town weren't over-powerful from Day one. If used right, in the right scenarios, some of the roles were really very powerful.

Against, this was for balance reasons. Had you have had that role, from night one, you would've been over-powerful.

The mafia played very well, the townies were unlucky and caught up with replacements and the like. Realise, Day 3, even Day 2 in a lot of mafia games is lynch-or-lose. You guys had numbers to your advantage as well. I would have expected a mafia lynch or two in 5 days when balancing.

Edited by molestargazer

sigh.

a good game, although the ending kinda sucks for us. :P

btw i'll be opening up sign-ups for the next big game, Somewhat Classic mafia, shortly.

I like the game. It was a bit tough for townies because of the mystery of possible power roles (hard to second guess) but most games right now that aren't standard will have to be second-guessed pretty hard anyway. But it also became tough for us when we knew of Aquinas' and CD's power roles, which should have been kept as a secret until really crucial, because it limited our choices for N4 kill when Aquinas, CD, and Narsis were grouped in one room. Good thing EM didn't choose, AKC got randomly moved etc.

I think to balance it while keeping the 5-1 rule, the map could be changed so that more rooms are adjacent or aren't totally separated by only 1-2 rooms. Or, allow the mafia movement to be unrestricted but with penalties, 100% safely move into the next room (one move) without being discovered (if there are 2 people in the room), 80% safely move two rooms from where you are (two moves) without being discovered etc.

I think the town should have followed Narsis more emphatically (given his role claim) and make it into a choice between me or AKC.

All in all, a good game that took too long because of inactivity.

I think it would have sped along much quicker if not for the inactivity.

But good game.

I'm looking forward to Plane Crash III - Revenge of the Pilots!!!!

HALF of DAY 4 - NIGHT 4 - DAY 5

AKCPluto 106

02-06-2010 01:47 PM ET (US)

Alright, then. Got it.

Falzis 105

02-06-2010 06:40 AM ET (US)

Hello! We cannot use this quick topic during the Day, only during Dusk and Night. As such, I cannot answer your question as to why we are doing such things. It is my fervent hope that you will be able to understand our strategy.

Remember, even if you die, if your faction wins, you win as well.

AKCPluto 104

02-06-2010 05:43 AM ET (US)

CD unvoted and Martino, you accused me.

I have read of mafia accusing each other to deflect suspicion. What is all going on here?

AKCPluto 103

02-05-2010 01:44 PM ET (US)

CD voted for me, LOL...

So,

a) Who should I vote for?

B) What should I say?

AKCPluto 102

02-04-2010 08:29 PM ET (US)

So, all set? Do I have to post in the main topic?

molestargazer 101

02-04-2010 12:24 PM ET (US)

Day 5, fellas. Good luck.

Falzis 100

02-04-2010 10:34 AM ET (US)

I thought as much. Sending NK.

Martino 99

02-04-2010 01:41 AM ET (US)

No, I will not RB. Chances are that I am being watched, so roleblocking would out me.

Falzis 98

02-03-2010 09:57 PM ET (US)

I'm ok with NKing junk. It will throw them off. Will you RB someone Martino?

So do I send the night action to NK junk through AKCPluto?

Martino 97

02-03-2010 12:01 PM ET (US)

So we need to decide what we are going to do. I'd be in favor of having AKCPluto NK Junk. If you have any other ideas please post them soon. But I believe the only viable alternative is no night kill.

Martin(the real one...) 96

Currently the players who are suspicious of me and Falzis believe that you are town. So I would prefer it if you did not vote for CD, unless it is the 4th vote which would get lynch him. The same goes for trying to get EM to vote for CD. I think he will do so by himself, if not then me or Falzis will try to convince him, but you should not be associated with us. So just stay out of that discussion. If they explicitely ask you for you opinion, then you can say that you are unsure and that there is a lot of reading you have to do.

Hello guys,

I would not mind sacrificing myself.

Should I ever try to throw hints out there for EM to vote for CD? Or would that compromise myself?

What kind of propoganda would work in convincing EM to do so?

Yes, that could work. But that could also backfire horribly. To be fair, I see no reason to take the gamble. Sure, it's likely that I will get lynched and you could go 2nd, but normally EM should be the third to go down. So let's not NK him. Also, while we would have no reason to NK, neither would CD if he was mafia. NKing EM in his case would indicate that CD's theory is wrong and that could lead to his lynch.

Yes, if I go in to block CD and NK Aquinas or Narsis I will be found out. So, in my opinion, that is not really an option. I also doubt that EM already has the medkit. So far, it seems like the town gets an additional item each night. So tomorrow we may face a doc, but I don't think we face one already.

AKCPluto self sacrificing doesn't seem that great an idea either. Again, it could very well work, but it could also backfire and expose the last hidden scum member.

Instead, I would suggest something else. If I understand Narsis' item correctly, he will detect when someone moves in his room or in one of the adjacent rooms. So if either you or AKCPluto would NK Junk, then all the information we will be giving away is that either you or AKCPluto is scum. Now, we know that both of you are scum, so it seems like a horrible move. However, I think this would perfectly split the town again. Part supporting you(me at least and perhaps EM, though he hasn't been suspicious of SinKon before) and the others AKCPluto. So yes, we will lose a scummember there. But on the other hand, it will also more or less clear the 2nd scum member. Which should allow us to win the game.

A third alternative would be to not submit a NK. That way we would force the town to make the decision without additional information.

On the other hand, if we can NK someone, all it takes is EM to vote for CD and we've won this game.

Also AKCPluto, it would probably for the best if you do not make any effort to defend me or Falzis during the day. I'll leave it up to you if you want to actively attack our posts.

Could killing EM deflect suspicion on us Martino by giving them WIFOM and make them think why would scum kill a townie that supports them during the day?

If not, then most likely Martino you will be found out the next day when we kill either Aquinas or Narsis.

The third option would be for AKCPluto to kill either Aquinas, and for Martino to roleblock EM, who I'm thinking is the doc or has the medkit (given that I don't believe other townies can get more than one item). This will involve AKCPluto sacrificing himself the next day when he is found out but this would also most certainly paint me and Martino as townie since we have been gunning for SinKon all this time.

I think it is unlikely that you will be watched tonight. However, that would still leave us with very few options. You can't kill Narsis, Aquinas or CD because you will be exposed once you move into their room. EM is not an option either, as he is on our side and he is a likely next target once I turn out to be scum.

Hello Martino,

Do you think someone would watch me?
