  1. So this early vote for "You know why!!!!" is your "pretty clear on who you wanna vote for"? You haven't posted since the first page of this thread, and now we're on page 5! I'd assumed your earlier vote was a joke/random vote based on me being the mod in the previous game, but now I'm curious to hear more. Explain your thoughts please - this is arguably worse than Lyner's "Much scummy" on Robert. -Preston You know just welcoming you back into the game...... And I'm just getting scummy feeling from you since the beginning. There were a grand total of three posts after day start prior to your vote on me. If that vote was you randomly 'welcoming me back to the game', I'd understand that - the Random Voting Stage is indeed random, and I had just voted for Robert in an equally random way prior to you voting for me. But when you then say you are "pretty clear on who you want to vote for", that turns your vote from something random to you sticking with it. If you're 'getting a scummy feeling from me since the beginning', I invite you to point out what Ive done since the beginning that caught your eye. I was not inclined to just vote back for you due to the OMGUS factor, but your insistence on clinging to your original vote with no expressed justification - and after having lurked for so long - is definitely catching my attention.
  2. Welcome to the game Dman! Glad to have you finally with us. Please do be active, it's what makes things fun With that said, I'm assuming you read through some posts to pick out Montosh to vote on? Please explain your reasoning behind your vote - helps to know what you're thinking! -Preston

  4. Thanks for the vote count d3mon! We seem pretty spread out, but that recent spike on Robert felt notable. With d3mon's blessing, please do go prod dman, Nick - we can't afford to have someone idle out unless we've got a replacement on deck (which I don't think we do). Could throw up a thread asking if anyone wants to be a backup I guess, but let's give dman a little more time now that there's a viable path to getting him active again. As for the rest of this... with 12 people, I'd guess there are 3 scum instead of the usual 2? Only one who got up to 4 thus far is dman; could look at that set of votes to see if it's a wagon the scum felt safe on, but give the sheer wave of 'lynch the inactive!' I don't know if we can rely on that. The only one to really catch my eye thus far is Lyner for his "Much scummy" as a sole reason for voting on robert - when the rest of his post wasn't about robert at all. This IS day 1, but usually the random votes are more blatantly in reaction to stuff. I voted robert at day start for his joke against me, but hopefully we're getting away from the randomness stage now. I'll throw this vote out and see where it goes: Vote: Lyner
  5. Started to do an informal vote count, the decided to wait til tomorrow on that due to lack of time. So we had a spike of votes on dman and no-lynch, now I think Robert is at 2 votes? At least Robert is here to defend himself, somewhat. Still waiting to hear from Dman. Would also be nice to get the mod's ruling on Nick's question - whether prodding his RL friend dman offline to check the game (without otherwise discussing game content) is acceptable. -Preston
  6. Props for the vi/vim regex kevin. Heh.
  7. Messing with a RL friend is all well and good, but I'd suggest leaving such things out after day 1. He *could* be mafia (or you could be if he's not), and you don't want that getting in the way of you two examining each others' posts with a critical eye. You shouldn't talk about the game outside of this thread, either - do be careful about that. And yeah, Kevin does tend to post flavor text it seems - stuff based on the game's setup/setting. Can't ignore it, but any hidden meanings will likely only make sense when the game's over - if there's anything to get at all. Where do the votes stand now anyway? We've had a good few no-lynch votes by now. I don't want the day ending prematurely on THAT count either, so I'll unvote now for safety. Unvote
  8. We're at 4 on dman now, and this early in the day. The prods are definitely in order. I can't say that them being idle benefits the game; but I don't like the idea of everyone just using the 'vote for idles!' easy way out, either. Such a sentiment doesn't really generate meaningful voting info, because both active town and scum will pile onto it - which completely defeats the purpose of doing anything on day 1. To keep matters *somewhat* even for now (or at least have a second option available), I'll swap my vote accordingly: Unvote Vote: No-Lynch
  9. I agree with getting lurkers to start posting - but putting any more votes on dman would reach the 4-person half-majority, so instead I'll just point a threatening finger and say, "SAY SOMETHING ALREADY!" Also a little surprised to see Kazio so inactive; but then he was slow to sign up in the signup thread too. Tis a busy time of year after all...
  10. Page two with a few votes out already; might be a good time for a votecount!
  11. Last time I was the Mod, not scum; easy mistake to make, I know Though I will agree you DID list both the scum as suspects on day 1 that game. Maybe that's part of why they killed you! If you manage to do it again - who knows? On a more serious note, your Kazio vote I don't disagree with - yeah, we need to get everyone posting. Protip for all the new players; post early, post often! If you go silent for an extended period of time, that CAN be used against you!
  12. I'm glad to see that last game left you paranoid enough to make me the subject of your joke! ... I'm not an old lady!!! Vote: Robert2424 You mad bro? Nah just disappointed. I'm sure you could have found a MUCH way to lampoon me than just calling me a scary old lady who lives in a shoe XD But ah yes - the age-old Lynch/No-Lynch debate! My thoughts thus far: This being a CLOSED game setup, we have no idea what we can potentially rely on in the night phases. There could be an investigative role, or there could only be roles to protect (doctor, jailer, bulletproof) or prematurely end (vigilante, serial killer) lives. There could be surprises, and we'll deal with them as they happen - but until then, deferring until day 2 won't reliably help us. If the only info we get is the identify of someone nightkilled, we'll have no idea what to DO with that information. We don't want to wait until the roleclaims start coming out to begin drawing sides. At minimum we need to get a good voting record going, and then see how it plays from there.
  13. I'd expect a OMGUS vote from Robert, but from you? Hmm... I *know* why, do I? Sore about the way last game went? All this hate for the prior mod, I swear...
  14. Also welcome to the new players Bigger mafia games are good!
  15. I'm glad to see that last game left you paranoid enough to make me the subject of your joke! ... I'm not an old lady!!! Vote: Robert2424
  16. Preston replied to d3mon's topic in Mafia
Pity we don't have a 13th player; maybe my memory is buggy but I thought mafia games worked best with odd starting numbers (9, 11, 13). I'm sure we can make 12 work though!
  17. Preston replied to d3mon's topic in Mafia
Agreed, please save a spot for Kazio
  18. Preston replied to d3mon's topic in Mafia
That's when it matters to get you into the game! You dont notice people slacking off during signup because if they miss the game, they don't post - and if someone slacks off in the main game, you just point how active they had to be to get into the game at all, and wish they were still that attentive!
  19. Preston replied to d3mon's topic in Mafia
Count me in Havent done this in a while.
  20. I'll certainly give the next game a try Though bear in mind this game will likely intersect with Thanksgiving holiday stuffs.
  21. Glad you enjoyed it ! It was actually quite funny seeing everyone's reactions on day 1, unable to have the normal no-lynch debate So who's making the next game's signup thread?
  22. Game Actions: Mafia's Veto: KevinH Chosen Townies: Kaziocore & d3mon Power Role: Witch Doctor - KevinH Night 1: KevinH Steal JuJu on Electric Mango Mafia nightkills Robert2424 Night 2: KevinH Steal JuJu on Montosh Mafia nightkills montosh Game Notes: All the chosen and power roles were generated by me literally rolling dice; KevinH being vetoed did not guarantee him getting the power role. The witch doctor role I actually felt was the weaker of the two options I came up with; useless if one of the chosen were killed first. It was effectively a bulletproof role contingent on finding a chosen townie before the mafia tried to kill the witch doctor. The palm would have at least been able to gain some positive information after one of the chosen died, even if the chosen's protection no longer applied. KevinH had an interesting question about what would happen if the Witch Doctor managed to steal juju from BOTH Chosen. As I wrote the role that was not possible - after the first success all further attempts would fail - but at the same time I liked the idea of somehow rewarding that highly improbable situation. Obviously it didn't happen, but if these roles get reused at some point I'd encourage having a special case figured out to handle that contingency.
  23. Day 3 Final Following the vengeance kill on Montosh, there was little more to discuss - of the five remaining one had done the deed, and he had to be found. Sadly, it would seem the arcane arts had begun to visibly take their toll on Electric Mango's mind - or perhaps he simply gave up with his partner gone. In either case it's not long before the town singles him out, backs him into a corner... and finishes off the threat once and for all. Electric Mango, Mafia Goon, was lynched! The town wins! Surviving Townies: Kaziocore, Imran Ehsan, Kevinh, d3mon.
  24. Day 3 Start Jubilant that their harsh justice was actually producing results, the town gathered the next day to continue their (literal) witch hunt. Surely the invisible powers of their chosen would bring them victory! But the festive mood is tempered as the town discovers that yesterday's kingmaker is today's fresh corpse... less ritually carved and more simply butchered this time, as though in a rage. It would seem there's a price to pay for opposing evil, and last night Montosh ended up paying it. Montosh, Vanilla Townie, has been killed Day 3 has begun!
  25. Day 2 Final The day had seen the town divided as far as it could go, and a lull of silence followed... until at the end there were only two on the ballot. Such decisions are never made easily - everyone had to have their say before the day's ghastly ritual could be concluded. In the end it was Rafay who had to die - the day's votes tallied and his fate administered by shovel to the back of the head. The hesitant town crowded around his still-twitching form and started emptying his pockets... Only to find a strangely ornate dagger with recent bloodstains, looking a little too real to have been a prop from the just-past Halloween! Rafay, Mafia Goon, was Lynched ... It is now Night 2. Consider the thread locked until I post the start of Day 3 (whether someone locks it for me or not!) Night actions to me by Wednesday, 5 November 2014 @ 23:00 EST
