It's Happening.... Again

The Happening.... *not* crap M. Night Shyamalan version

Scenario:

The once quiet town of Samwise Gamgee has been having some trouble recently: movie attendance is down, happiness seems at an all time low, and no-one is buying Valentine's cards! One resident - Donald Sutherland, a Canadian character actor with a film career spanning over 50 years - seems to remember a movie he once starred in that had a similar plot. He announces to the town there can only be ONE cause: people are being replaced by replicas grown from plantlike pods! He calls his out-of-town friend (and co-star in the 1978 movie), Leonard Nimoy, who reminds him how the movie had a totally crap ending for Humanity, and persuades Sutherland to run away with him. Together they will find William Shatner's truck bed camper (which he still lives in) and attempt to turn it into an inter-stellar ship.

Meanwhile, the nice townfolk stare at each other in confusion. What should decent, smart people do? MOVE, of course. What are YOU gonna do? Try to figure out who the pod guys are and lynch 'em during the daylight! I'm not kidding, folks. That's the plan, unless you want to "make like Sutherland" or "pull a Nimroy." Which would be totally lame, and your future children would disown you.

So there is good news and bad news. The bad news is, the pod people move at night - and might switcheroo OR kill one of the townsfolk (never both). The good news is, due to their desire to blend in, they will never switcheroo to a equal number or majority. If there are 3 townsfolk and 1 pod person, the next morning there will still be 3 townsfolk (if noone was murdered). If pod people outnumber or equal the Innocents during the day, the pods win, if the Innocents wipe out the pod people, Donald Sutherland can come home.

Rules:

[01] Votes should be in bold. If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted, unless you're clever and add it to the spreadsheet also. Failsafe system!

[02] Please put some effort into making posts longer than 1 or 2 sentences. I can't force you to do it, but it would be helpful.

[03] Lynching will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, their pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded. The exception to this rule is if the deadline is reached, and no majority has been achieved - see below *

[04] You may vote: no lynch. Majority votes of this kind are necessary to end the day without a death.

[05] Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. You can make a single “Bah!” post but no relevant information.

[06] No small text. Don’t edit/delete previously submitted posts either.

[07] Don’t quote any PMs from me. If you do, I will destroy you.

[08] If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you. If you do not submit a choice to me, I’ll flip a coin or get creative, depending on how much I've had to drink.

[09] If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 24-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.

[10] If you have any questions at all, please PM me or post the question in the thread.

[11] Remember, it’s a game and it’s supposed to be fun. Be nice to your fellow players.

*"What happens if the deadline is reached, and there is no 'majority'?" This is most likely to happen if either (1) some people are inactive, or don't vote or (2) the spread of votes is evenly distributed. In scenario 1, all those unvoting members at the deadline become "abstaining" and lose their vote that round, and in the case of (2) whoever has the oldest vote of lynch gets it. Believe it or not, this is to HELP the townies, trust me.

Vote for a player to be lynched by posting and using the NIFTY SPREADSHEET BELOW. The spreadsheet shows you (at any moment) how things stand, the posting is so historically people can look back and decide how evil or decent you are. Yes, we can also post votecounts, but the spreadsheet is the best way to make sure I don't miss something or screw up. If there are 2 players with the same amount of votes at deadline, then I will lynch the one who reached that number of votes first.

Players:

1/ ScoutX

2/ Falzis

3/ Aquinas

4/ CanucksDynasty

5/ KevinH

6/ Electric Mango

7/ Narsis

8/ Tobias Greene

Finally....

THE NIFTY SPREADSHEET OF AWESOMENESS

The above link is to a spreadsheet which lists everyone still alive, and a column for each player. This is to save me the endless back and forth that I've seen here. Open the sheet, find the column at the top with your name, and then place an X in that column under who you want killed (list of candidates is on the left).

YOU SHOULD ALL HAVE PMs SITTING IN YOUR INBOX WITH CHARACTERS. LET ME KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY SNAGS.

Day 2 commences.

Tired and weary of the possibility that there is one less townie, the people return to their homes and sleep. In the night, one moves among them - and yet when the sun rises no dead bodies are discovered. At the next day's town meeting, all are present and accounted for. The whispers once again start - is so-and-so hungover, or is that wince of headache one of the 'Signs'? Could someone among us now possess... The Sixth Sense? Are these Pod people really Unbreakable? What is going on in The Village? Maybe we should find a chick and drown her, and then she'll be Lady in the..... okay, okay, I'll stop. Sorry.

If we don't have a majority vote (which starts the lynch), deadline is MIDNIGHT THURSDAY 1/28 your time.

That was a fast night.

I can only conclude that mafa sent in an action before hand or mafia was online within the hour.

Hmm yes that was unusually quick.

I looked around the forums and noticed that you were actively posting between 10:30-11:30am (in IRON).

Thus I think you are pea pod.

Vote: Falzis

Way to go CD. Why would I post here if I wanted to avoid suspicion? Why couldn't I have just lurked like ScoutX, Narsis, and KevinH?

Maybe you're passing the buck...

FOS: CanucksDynasty

I don't think it's enough to assume scumminess based on online activity.

However, Falzis was Tobias' choice and he was townie.

Falzis' response to CanucksDynasty seems a bit reactive, too.

With no night-kill, I assume there is one more scum due to conversion so we need to be careful about misinformation, but does anyone have any investigations to share?

I want to hear from everyone ...

I would also assume there is one more scum added (therefore there is 2 mafia).

The previous days "towniness" can no longer be used as a measuring stick since we don't know which townie got converted.

However, "scumminess" will 100% carry over; and there's only a 1/6 chance that any given townie got converted.

By the way, we killed a townie with a day 1 lynch: "I told you so!" :)

:P

But based on Narsis calculations...we have a 22% of winning for this scenario. -_-

Well, I never got a PM last night, it looks like the Pod People/Person didn't want me on their team. I wonder who they recruited.

I'd say a PP voted for TG but I'm not sure who just yet.

Yes...I'm sure we'll take your word that you were not converted

Unless PP thought TG had a power role...your arguement has no value.

It wouldn't have mattered to PP which person got lynched unless it was him (ie. like Falzis when he got 3 votes).

D1 Vote Count

Falzis (3) - EM, ScoutX, Tobias Greene

Tobias Greene (4) - KevinH, Falzis, CanucksDynasty, Narsis

Not Voting (1) - Aquinas

At the risk of sounding defensive, I'm not sure being signed in to the boards is exactly damning right now. We are on the cusp of war.

True...but given that the night lasted a mere 1/2 hr...I can only presume it was someone active at the time (myself included).

Unless the night actions were sent in prior to the night ending.

Is this OMGUS or WIFOM?

The scum could not have known that night would last a mere 1/2 hour.

That is why I listed those that I found online at the time.

I found that you were active during that time (as was I).

So my vote goes to you.

Not to butt in, but I was fastidious to ensure all actions were taken in the correct order. I do accept actions before their deadline, but remind those submitting them that events happening in the meantime may render their desires moot.

Huh? Guys I'm not the pod person. I don't know how to convince you but I'm not. May Heaven's wrath will fall upon the Pod person. Confess your sins now to me!

From your post above...

Either you have a power role or you are scum.

I think the latter is true.

IF you were just a regular townie...your death would have meant a greater % for town to win (as per Narsis calculations).

I understand. In previous games...I too have submitted actions prior to night ending (so as not to delay the game).

Yep, and then those who have not submitted get a PM reminder. If I'm going to expect you to be committed and active, I have to do my part too. ^_^

How would my death (by lynch or by NK?) mean a greater % to win for town? (compared to TG, if we're both just a regular townie)

And I don't have a power role... I'm the town's priest, nothing more. (no night action as cleared with mod)

The reason for FOS. It's easy to blame me as pod since my head was on the chopping block as well yesterday and give analysis today as to how oh I'm more likely scum coz I didn't die yesterday (and it would mean a higher % to win - which I don't really get how you arrived at that conclusion) when you could be the pod person and just deflecting it on to me.

you could be the pod person and just deflecting it on to me.

Anybody could be a pod person, and we have to be careful because somebody who was town yesterday got recruited last night.

We haven't heard from Narsis or Aquinas yet this game day. Deadline is in two real life days.

If I were the original pod person, I would recruit a veteran.
