It's Happening.... Again

The Happening.... *not* crap M. Night Shyamalan version

Scenario:

The once quiet town of Samwise Gamgee has been having some trouble recently: movie attendance is down, happiness seems at an all time low, and no-one is buying Valentine's cards! One resident - Donald Sutherland, a Canadian character actor with a film career spanning over 50 years - seems to remember a movie he once starred in that had a similar plot. He announces to the town there can only be ONE cause: people are being replaced by replicas grown from plantlike pods! He calls his out-of-town friend (and co-star in the 1978 movie), Leonard Nimoy, who reminds him how the movie had a totally crap ending for Humanity, and persuades Sutherland to run away with him. Together they will find William Shatner's truck bed camper (which he still lives in) and attempt to turn it into an inter-stellar ship.

Meanwhile, the nice townfolk stare at each other in confusion. What should decent, smart people do? MOVE, of course. What are YOU gonna do? Try to figure out who the pod guys are and lynch 'em during the daylight! I'm not kidding, folks. That's the plan, unless you want to "make like Sutherland" or "pull a Nimroy." Which would be totally lame, and your future children would disown you.

So there is good news and bad news. The bad news is, the pod people move at night - and might switcheroo OR kill one of the townsfolk (never both). The good news is, due to their desire to blend in, they will never switcheroo to a equal number or majority. If there are 3 townsfolk and 1 pod person, the next morning there will still be 3 townsfolk (if noone was murdered). If pod people outnumber or equal the Innocents during the day, the pods win, if the Innocents wipe out the pod people, Donald Sutherland can come home.

Rules:

[01] Votes should be in bold. If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted, unless you're clever and add it to the spreadsheet also. Failsafe system!

[02] Please put some effort into making posts longer than 1 or 2 sentences. I can't force you to do it, but it would be helpful.

[03] Lynching will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, their pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded. The exception to this rule is if the deadline is reached, and no majority has been achieved - see below *

[04] You may vote: no lynch. Majority votes of this kind are necessary to end the day without a death.

[05] Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. You can make a single “Bah!” post but no relevant information.

[06] No small text. Don’t edit/delete previously submitted posts either.

[07] Don’t quote any PMs from me. If you do, I will destroy you.

[08] If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you. If you do not submit a choice to me, I’ll flip a coin or get creative, depending on how much I've had to drink.

[09] If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 24-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.

[10] If you have any questions at all, please PM me or post the question in the thread.

[11] Remember, it’s a game and it’s supposed to be fun. Be nice to your fellow players.

*"What happens if the deadline is reached, and there is no 'majority'?" This is most likely to happen if either (1) some people are inactive, or don't vote or (2) the spread of votes is evenly distributed. In scenario 1, all those unvoting members at the deadline become "abstaining" and lose their vote that round, and in the case of (2) whoever has the oldest vote of lynch gets it. Believe it or not, this is to HELP the townies, trust me.

Vote for a player to be lynched by posting and using the NIFTY SPREADSHEET BELOW. The spreadsheet shows you (at any moment) how things stand, the posting is so historically people can look back and decide how evil or decent you are. Yes, we can also post votecounts, but the spreadsheet is the best way to make sure I don't miss something or screw up. If there are 2 players with the same amount of votes at deadline, then I will lynch the one who reached that number of votes first.

Players:

1/ ScoutX

2/ Falzis

3/ Aquinas

4/ CanucksDynasty

5/ KevinH

6/ Electric Mango

7/ Narsis

8/ Tobias Greene

Finally....

THE NIFTY SPREADSHEET OF AWESOMENESS

The above link is to a spreadsheet which lists everyone still alive, and a column for each player. This is to save me the endless back and forth that I've seen here. Open the sheet, find the column at the top with your name, and then place an X in that column under who you want killed (list of candidates is on the left).

YOU SHOULD ALL HAVE PMs SITTING IN YOUR INBOX WITH CHARACTERS. LET ME KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY SNAGS.

sorry. was sick yesterday so didnt get on much...

anyway...Falzis did answer my question already(without even me needing to ask it :o ) about being a priest. although i still dont see how he doesnt have a night action...which is why i choose to vote for TG rather then Falzis.

also Falzis: the math is what i did. all probability and assuming random lynches et al, but it does make for a decent baseline. the probability of lynching the scum outright was greater then anything that we would have gained by no lynching.

we killed a townie with a day 1 lynch: "I told you so!" :)
But based on Narsis calculations...we have a 22% of winning for this scenario. -_-

Just because we gambled and lost doesn't mean it was not a good choice to make. B)

The fact that scum can recruit at night shifts the probabilities toward lynching when we can.

Aquinas, are you there?

All players have an occupation as part of their character sheet - if/how they choose to use it is completely up to them.

Since Falzis told his role, I'll tell mine. I'm the town grocer. I help people carry stuff to their car and I'm great at double bagging. Does anyone need anything bagged? If you do I'll send in the night action for it :D

Sorry to be away. I go to school in Fargo, ND and we just went through a bad blizzard. Long story short, I was unable to use the internet during the blizzard.

Otherwise, I removed my vote because I did not want to get grief for lynching a power role. The flavor used at the time at least suggested that as a possibility and I still don't rule it out. Furthermore, it sounded like townie flavor text more so than scum text so, I retracted my vote.

I am the town candle maker. I specialize in things long and hard...or so I am told by my very particular consumer base.

Are these Pod people really Unbreakable? What is going on in The Village? Maybe we should find a chick and drown her, and then she'll be Lady in the.....

deadline is MIDNIGHT THURSDAY 1/28

I think you are pea pod.

Vote: Falzis

I'm the town's priest, nothing more.

Considering the coming deadline, I'm going to vote.

I don't believe Falzis is the "priest, nothing more".

Vote: Falzis

This is not OMGUS because CD and KevinH both voted for me and I suspect both of them for that because I already told my flavor text as EM and Aquinas soon did and yet they want to kill me.

What are YOUR flavor roles IF you have one at all?

Vote: CanucksDynasty

FOS: KevinH

What does flavor text have to do with anything when the Pea Pod want to "blend in"????

And yes...it is a OMGUS vote.

My flavour text goes something like this...

I'm Donald Sutherland's former roadie. Been with him through thick and thin. I followed him here when he retired. I like Canadian beer.

Now I know you are scum.

Why else are you so hung up on surviving the lynch?

Especially if you are just a vanilla townie?

We're co-workers! I'm Donald Sutherland's personal assistant, watching over his affairs while he is gone.

It's in Donald Sutherland's best interest to lynch Falzis, thus my vote. :P

Whatever. Pure WIFOM.

Why wouldn't a vanilla townie want to survive? It's like saying everybody in this game should be in it to die. Frankly, how inane.

Secondly, how would I survive the lynch with a vote on you? Mine's just one vote. If others decide to vote for you, it's their decision.

You're the one who is so hung up.

Sorry to be away. I go to school in Fargo, ND and we just went through a bad blizzard. Long story short, I was unable to use the internet during the blizzard.

I know people in Morris. It sounds like they got hit really bad too. It was windy down in the cities, but we didn't get much more than a dusting.

I'm going with Falzis because my flavor text says I'm susceptible to mob mentality.

Vote: Falzis

I don't believe Falzis is the "priest, nothing more".

i tend to agree with this sentiment...although from the perspective of him being a powerrole. at least that was what i thought yesterday and was the only reason i voted TG over Falzis...

that said i'm always suspicious of the vets, particularly in a game like this where it is in the scums interest to recruit the vets.

Whatever. Pure WIFOM.

NO U!! :P

Cuz a vanilla townie death serves its purpose.

It reduces the odds to better lynch scum.

I'm okay with dying so long as it provides useful information.

And I'm not hung up on your one vote anyways.

I was pointing out how you immediately attacked myself and KevinH for our votes on you.

Because I think one of you started out as the pod person and recruited the other. Veteran theory.

It's easy to say that when your head isn't on the chopping block. And much easier when you could just easily dismiss a townie death later as "well it served its purpose". You'd much prefer to lynch a townie than to hunt and lynch scum. Fishy.

You still didn't answer my question.

"how would I survive the lynch with a vote on you? Mine's just one vote. If others decide to vote for you, it's their decision." = i'm not hung up on surviving because it's just one vote.

Vote: CD

If he's not opposed to a townie getting lynched he should have no problem with my vote. Also, I believe that the PP recruited a veteran last night and CD fits the bill.

No problem with the vote.

Also...other than ScoutX...pretty much all that is left are vets and seasoned players.

And you fit the bill for both too -_-

So are you implying it's ScoutX?

As it stands, by my math, Falzis has three votes and CanucksDynasty has two. Narsis and Aquinas have yet to vote, both would need to vote for CanucksDynasty to end the day with the hammer on him, a single vote by either will mean curtains for Falzis.

Deadline is MIDNIGHT THURSDAY 1/28 your time.

So are you implying it's ScoutX?

No.

If I think he was scum...I would have said so.

I see you twist my words at every turn.

Because I think one of you started out as the pod person and recruited the other. Veteran theory.

Really now.

IF I was truly the PP...I would have voted for you in the first place and not TG (a newbie).

Like Narsis...I was hesitant on lynching a power role (if there was one) since you went spouting "confess your sins" post.

The possiblility of maybe a priest could revert/heal a converted PP.

But you claimed just plain vanilla townie.

So thus my vote is on you.

i still think that a vet would have been recruited. that said...everyone seemed to think that Falzis had a power role when we went into the night...so it is also possible that the PP converted Falzis to remove that threat...

gah i hate WIFOM.

Vote: Falzis

I'm betting priest...

Sorry I wasn't more vocal but, I don't think it would have done much good either. Plus, I didn't think we'd end up at a lynch until at least tomorrow sometime.
