[KH-12] Sharing is Caring - Mafia Win

Sharing is Caring

This setup was designed for the Open Setup Design Contest 2015.

Roles

  • 1 Mafia Y-shot Rolecop
  • 1 Mafia Y-shot Doctor
  • 1 Mafia Y-shot Framer
  • 1 Town X-shot Cop
  • 1 Town X-shot Jailkeeper
  • 1 Town X-shot Vigilante
  • 7 VTs

Mechanics

  • Daystart
  • "X" starts as 4, and decreases with each shot spent by one of the power roles.
  • "Y" starts as 4, and decreases with each shot spent by one of the power roles.
  • If X or Y goes below 0 in one night, all actions by that team will fail and no shots will be spent.
  • Every time a Town Power Role dies, X increases by 1.
  • Every time a Mafia Member dies, Y increases by 1.

Mafia Win!

Vanilla Townie PM:

Welcome, [Player Name], you are a Vanilla Townie.
Abilities:
Your weapon is your vote, you have no night actions.
Win condition:
You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

Rules

  • During the Day phase, each player may speak and vote inthread.
  • If a player receives the majority of the available votes during the Day, they are lynched.
  • At deadline, a player with half-majority will be lynched; the first player to reach the most votes over half-majority will be lynched in the event of a tie.
  • You may vote No Lynch.
  • After the Day, the game goes to Night.
  • The game thread is closed during the Night. The Mafia may speak to each other at Night.
  • All Active Roles may submit actions via PM at Night.
  • The Mafia can, as a faction, kill one player at Night.
  • After the Night, the game goes to Day.
  • All dead players (lynched or killed) can no longer participate in the game.
  • Basic rules for maintaining the integrity of the game thread are in effect (i.e. players may not quote their Role PMs, nor may they discuss the game outside the game thread unless otherwise permitted, etc.)
  • The game is won when only one faction remains in the game, or nothing can prevent the same.
  • Mass role-claiming is allowed.

Game Days will last as many real-life days as there are players alive.
Game Nights will last 48 hours but will include at least one weekday.

The best strategy for town on the first day is to not lynch anyone because there is no evidence and most of the evidence is basically conjecture or for lulz. This was discussed in my last game and I'm surprised to see that many of the same people who voted for this, actually have already voted for someone.  Ali bin turban as been especially eager to vote for a lynch even though he knows that a mislynch (highly probable at this point) would only hurt the town. This looks scummy to me. But as for the rest of his actions, they genuinely look good.

I'm not very sure about anyone at this point.

Vote: No Vote

It's always better than lynching a townie, or worst, cop :P

Rhizo there's no jester in this game. Why you're trying to get yourself lynched? :P

lmao

Too bad for Rafay but I agree with AbT, you need to talk more or it will hurt town in the long run

Yes we should let cop investigate for at least two nights, let's hope he is good

We need everyone to be active in this game. That means we need people like Rafay to post more regularly. This is a new format and with only 13 players in the game, having even one inactive will really hurt our chances, even more so if that person happens to have one of the three town power roles.

Very interesting setup. Townies have 4 power actions. This means the townies with power roles really need to pay attention to what we are posting and not go around using their actions every night (god..I hope rafay isnt one of those with a PR). They need to hold back and conserve their actions to be used at the most opportune times.

For Night 1,

- the Vigilante should not be using his power. He has a higher probability of hitting town shooting in the dark than with some info.

- the jailkeeper should not be using his power as well. He has a chance of blocking the cop. Jailing the framer and role cop also gives little benefit to the town for now as chance of framer and cop hitting the same target is very low and chance of role cop targetting a VT is also high.

- the cop should be using his power. The decision to who he should target should be based on posting patterns and scumminess indicators from D1. For example, my BS detector meter kept on going off the charts every time Rhizo posted in the last 2 games I played with him. Look for such signs and target him.

So that will take up only 1 out of the 4 power actions we have, leaving 3 for the later days. On Day 2 we will re-evaluate the results from D1 and N1 and consider our options again as to what actions to take next.

For Day 1, we need to lynch. We lynch the lurkers. As I have already pointed out town and specially the townies with power role really need to pay attention to this game. If you are a town and too busy to play, let the Mod know right now that you are not available so that a replacement can be found. Dont just stay around and do nothing ruining the game for everyone.

We need your opinions/thoughts on how to play this and who looks suspicious to you.

Same goes for iSocialism in my opinion, he's also always very quiet in the 2 games I've played...

I still have an important question we need to discuss: should the cop come out immediately if he happens to find a scum?

After this we could let the Jailkeeper protect the cop and it'll be a guessing game for the Mafia like Ali said.

@KevinH: If the jailkeeper protects the cop and the cop investigates someone (but can't because he's put in jail). Does the town lose only 1 or 2 points?

@KevinH: If the jailkeeper protects the cop and the cop investigates someone (but can't because he's put in jail). Does the town lose only 1 or 2 points?

That may be a nice strategy for us,I think. Cop is the most important role and should be protected at all costs, but the jail will hinder his ability too, making him useless. :(

I agree that he should come out with his results as soon he identifies someone as scum because of two reasons:

A) He may die the next night, with his knowledge

B) There's arole changer (or something :P) on mafia's side and hemay change the result. Hence all accused by the cop should get a chance to explain themselves too, and that isn't possible if there's no time

I think I'd stand firm on the cop coming out on D3. Despite if he finds a scum on N1, I still think he has a good chance of making it past N2 alive and giving us more results.

He'll also have one extra night to investigate.

Fermions posts are scummy. Just sayin'.

I was just pointing out the ways in which Mandarijn's plan could backfire on the town :(

I think I'd stand firm on the cop coming out on D3. Despite if he finds a scum on N1, I still think he has a good chance of making it past N2 alive and giving us more results.

I think that I generally agree with this as well.

I think that our best play with the Cop is to let him investigate on night 1. If he finds a townie, that's alright. That's one less person he knows is scum. If he finds scum, great! He should help to convince us to lynch that person the next day, preferably without giving his role away.

Let the Cop investigate again on night 2, preferably on someone that has seemed scummy up to that point. If he finds a townie, that's alright. Once again that is one less person that he knows is scum. If he finds scum, great! Help convince us to lynch that person the next day.

We want to keep the Cop alive as long as possible but if he has information and it looks like he is somehow heading to be lynched during the day or if he has a reasonable suspicion that he will be targeted next at night by the scum, he needs to role claim immediately and share the information that he has. At that point we can use our Jailkeeper can help keep him alive if we need to.

If we find a scum and cannot manage to lynch him during the day for one reason or another, we will still have the option to kill him at night with the Vigilante.

What does everyone else think of the general proposed strategy? Anything else that we should consider?

Still nothing from iSocialism or Whitebeard after 24 hours. We need everyone to be active.

@Kevin - Have either of them read their role PM's?

Huh, been quite inactive, never knew there were going to be such RUDE comments put towards me  :P

You wanna know why? My BS detector went off. hAAAAAAA

Ouch. Abt being savage.

VOTE RAFAY

let's see if he squirms.

I'm a little hurt by your accusation. I'm one of the most reasonable and logical people that have walk the...well "this topic" will suffice ;).

I do not vote randomly, nor do I do it for the lulz. I've announced my intention way before this game started (precisely here: http://ironcentral.org/community/topic/56759-tw-01-cybernations-mafia-day-4/page-24?do=findComment&comment=854290 - last sentence).

D1 votes are the most random ones, so I'm adding a pinch of logic into them: "If you want to lynch and there's no proof pointing to anyone, lynch the one that tends to be biggest liability later on". This also have didactic value, because If player sees he's being punished for his anti-town playstyle he'll feel pressure to change it :).

I also support what Imran's said. Just in case, I'll reiterate: If anyone of you have signed up but don't feel like you're going to play, or maybe you're not convinced yet and booked yourself a seat just in case, please leave, because otherwise you're going to ruin it for everyone. This kind of game's just suffering so much if people are getting inactive (as we are experiencing in TW's game).

One more thing - let's have max value for day length. 13 days for D1 is definitely overboard. There will be nothing to talk about after 6.

OMGUS

For the noobs rookies. Yep.

Something called reverse psychology...

I think smart cop does not need to come out until he has good reasons to do it. I believe smart cop would stay hidden for as long as he can putting hints everyday. Hints that are small enough so that they're lost in the noise of other people opinions, but when he dies, his role is revealed and we come back digging his posts they become obvious.

Question is, does that poor fellow that drew the short straw and got the most responsible role feels smart enough to pull it off :P.

Also, folks that get on a lynch wagon that targets scum (or the ones being strong accusers) will surely get the attention of the other scums, so cop would be risking his life in such case.

One important thing I think we can do in order to help cop is to post our opinions everyday (on both scummy and townie reads - but let's not get overboard with it - real cop would never come with 5 townie reads after first night) so that we act like noise that's encrypting cop's transmission giving scums serious trouble to get on a right track.

I could see that backfiring. If we make random nonsense to try and avert attention from the cop, we'd also be drowning out any noise from the scum if I'm understanding correctly. As for the hints, I feel the cop may be risking it there so they would have to be extremely clever. Scum would be looking for any indicator on who is the cop, that's their target #1. If their are hints, they'd have to be subtle enough to fit in the conversation but obvious enough to kind of spell it out what they found. That second part is what scares me though, in case it is obvious enough for a scum to pick up and cops gone with us only having one hint..

I can see the benefit though if the cop leaves opinions on people when he finds something out (during the course of one day, the conversation usually circles through everyone.) If he's killed, we'd have that "opinion" to go off of. With such limited players, confirming a Townie is almost as good as confirming a scum.

Also, can anyone ping isocialism?
