Later that evening Harry sat in the dormitory alone turning Riddle's Diary over in his hands. When Harry's bag ripped open that afternoon he knew that his inkwell had covered the entire contents of his bag in ink but yet Riddle's Diary appeared as if a drop of ink had never touched it. He had an idea.
Harry pulled out a new inkwell and dipped a quill into it. He opened the Diary to the first page and dropped a dot of ink onto it. Harry watched as the ink absorbed into the diary's page a second later. His heart began to beat a little bit faster as he began to write in the book:
"My name is Harry Potter."
Harry lifted the quill off of the page and watched as his writing soaked into the diary and was replaced by someone else's handwriting:
"Hello, Harry Potter. My name is Tom Riddle. How did you come by my diary?"
Harry and Riddle wrote back and forth a few times before Harry decided to mention the Chamber of Secrets.
"Do you know anything about the Chamber of Secrets?"
"Yes" Riddle replied.
"Can you tell me?" Harry asked as his heart pounded faster.
"No. But I can show you."
Riddle's Diary began to glow. Harry felt as though he was being sucked into it's pages. Harry was now standing in the Great Hall. A taller, brown-haired student in Slytherin robes stood before him talking to a Hogwarts Professor that Harry did not recognize.
"Professor Dippet, sir, I was wondering if you would allow me to stay at Hogwarts over the summer rather than returning to the orphanage."
"I'm sorry, Tom" Professor Dippet responded. "But I really cannot approve such a request. Particularly in light of the recent tragedy... the death of that poor little girl."
Tom looked saddened for a moment as he stood there in thought before turning and leaving the Great Hall. As Tom Riddle made his way toward the Grand Staircase he wondered to himself if Professor Dippet would change his mind if he could catch the person who killed the girl.
A tall wizard with long sweeping auburn hair and a beard approached Riddle. "Good evening, Tom."
"Good evening, Professor Dumbledore" he responded.
"It's quite late, Tom. You really shouldn't be wandering the castle at these hours. Hurry along to bed now." Riddle descended the stairs toward the dungeons as Harry followed silently behind him. Halfway down a dimly lit corridor, Riddle stopped as if waiting for something. After a few minutes had passed Riddle perked up. Harry understood why a moment later. Someone was coming.
Harry heard the person whispering: "C'mon…gotta get yeh outta here…C'mon now…in the box." Riddle moved forward and turned the corner in front of him.
"Good evening, Hagrid" Riddle said as he turned the corner. A younger school aged Hagrid stood before them with a large box. "I don't think you meant to kill anyone, Hagrid. That girl's parents will be here in the morning" Riddle said. "But monsters don't make good pets. The least Hogwarts can do is make sure that the thing that killed their daughter is slaughtered."
"Aragog would never hurt no one! Never!" Hagrid called.
"Stand aside, Hagrid" Riddle said as he drew his wand.
"What are you going to do?" Hagrid asked frantically.
"Stand aside" Riddle repeated.
The next thing Harry saw was a terrifying sight. Eight long legs and a basketball sized body came scurrying in his direction. Riddle aimed his wand at the spider and shouted "ARANIA EXUMAI!" A blast of light shot out of the tip of Riddle's wand and hit the wall as the giant spider raced around the corner and out of sight. Hagrid dove at Riddle and tackled him to prevent him from going after Aragog.
The scene began to dissolve into bright light around Harry. Moments later he sat up and looked around. He was once again in the Gryffindor dormitory with Riddle's Diary lying open on the desk in front of him. Harry heard someone running up the stairs. He quickly slammed the diary shut and hid it in his trunk. A second later Ron burst into the dormitory.
"There's been another attack! Colin Creevey was discovered in a fourth floor corridor petrified with his camera pressed against his face."
Harry decided that he could not keep what he had found out to himself. He recounted the story in Riddle's Diary to Ron and told him that it was Hagrid who had opened the Chamber of Secrets fifty years ago..
Colin Creevey (Ali bin Turban) a normal Hogwarts Student has been petrified on night 5.
