Harry, Ron, and Hermione sat together at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall the next morning. Harry's day had already gotten off to a poor start. Malfoy and company loved reminding him of his fainting spell any chance that they got. His anger was temporarily displaced however when Fred and George walked over to them and handed them their class schedules. Harry and Ron looked down their lists for the first day:

  • Divination
  • Transfiguration
  • Care of Magical Creatures

And then they glanced at Hermione's class list. She had the same three classes of course but there were also several others listed, a few of which were listed at the same times. When Harry and Ron asked her about her schedule she just shrugged them off and said "Don't be silly."

The Divination classroom was in a part of the castle that none of them had even ever seen and they weren't quite sure how to get there. They headed off in the direction where they thought the classroom was. They hadn't gotten too far when they came across a rather feisty portrait on the 2nd floor. A goofy looking knight named Sir Cadogan challenged Ron to a duel and held his fists up as if he wanted to box him. Hermione interrupted the knight and explained that they were running late and did not know how to get to the North Tower. Being the chivalrous knight that Sir Cadogan was, he promised to escort them to the tower.

When they reached the tower they found a ladder that led up to an attic room. The divination classroom looked like an old fashioned tea shop. Harry, Ron, and Hermione took their seats at a small round table with a pot of tea and three teacups. Professor Trelawney appeared and quieted the class. She had wavy light brown hair, large circular glasses, and wore a large purple shawl. She spoke in a very whimsical voice and explained that they would be reading tea leaves for their first lesson. Each of the students drank their cup of tea and left the tea leaves at the bottom of the cup. Professor Trelawney made her way around the room peeking in random cups and making rather vague predictions. She finally reached the table where Harry, Ron, and Hermione sat. She picked up Harry's cup and gasped. The cup fell out of her hands and clanked on the table. Harry didn't know what to think.

"My dear boy," she said staring into Harry's eyes. "You have the grim!" Most of the class gasped as well as they looked at Harry, who had no idea what that meant. Harry flipped open his book to the section on reading tea leaves and he located the grim.

"The grim is a dark omen. It is commonly associated with extreme danger and death."

Professor Trelawney ended class a little bit early and they left the attic room. Most of the class was freaked out by Trelawney's prediction. Hermione couldn't help but scoff, however. She thought that Trelawney was a total quack. It was not like Hermione to talk about a professor that way but she did so their entire way to Transfiguration.

When they reached the transfiguration classroom they took their seats. McGonagall was not yet there but a black and gray cat sat on top of her desk staring at the class. After a few minutes of waiting, the cat stood up and leapt off of the desk. Instead of landing normally on the floor, the cat had transformed and Professor McGonagall now stood before them and revealed that she was an animagus. The majority of the class did not really react much to McGonagall's transformation though so she wondered why. Hermione rose her hand and explained where they had just come from and what Professor Trelawney had predicted. McGonagall turned toward Harry. "You should know, Potter, that Sibyll Trelawney has predicted the death of one student a year since she arrived at this school. It is her favorite way to welcome a new class."

After transfiguration the Gryffindors made their way out of the castle and toward Hagrid's Hut on the edge of the forest. They had their first Care of Magical Creatures class with the Slytherins. Hagrid stood at the side of his hut as the two classes gathered. He was very clearly nervous and became more so when the Slytherins were complaining about his textbook - The Monster Book of Monsters - and how it had almost killed several of them. Despite his nerves, Hagrid was rather excited to announce the surprise that he had planned for the first lesson. Hagrid instructed the classes to wait where they were for a moment while he walked into the forest. He returned two minutes later holding a thick leash and led a large creature out of the trees that appeared to be a cross between a horse and a bird. He introduced them to Buckbeak the Hippogriff and began his lesson.

"Hippogriffs are proud creatures that can be easily offended. Don't ever insult one, 'cause it might be the last thing you do." Hagrid asked for a volunteer to step forward to assist him. Both classes slowly stepped backwards tentatively except for Harry who offered to help. He stepped forward and was instructed to slowly bow to Buckbeak. This seemed like a very odd request but Harry did as he was instructed. The Hippogriff stared intently at Harry with it's large yellow and black eyes. It considered him for a moment before slowly bowing back. Hagrid applauded. "Well done Harry! Well done. I think he'll let you ride him now."

"What?!" Harry responded as Hagrid picked him up and hoisted him onto Buckbeak's back. The Hippogriff took off at a gallop and Harry quickly grabbed a hold of Buckbeak behind his large wings. The Hippogriff soared into the sky and flew over the Forest for a couple minutes before returning and landing with thunderous footprints on the ground. Harry jumped off of Buckbeak's back and Hagrid had both classes line up so that they could practice bowing to the Hippogriff.

Malfoy stepped forward quickly. "What a joke. I bet you aren't dangerous at all. Are you?" he said as he approached Buckbeak. Hagrid tried to call Malfoy off but it was too late. Buckbeak reared onto his hind legs and thrashed his front legs violently at Malfoy. His talons caught Malfoy's arm and slashed him. Hagrid rushed over to Buckbeak and pulled him back and tied him up. He had done it now. His first day on the job and he was already afraid that he was going to be fired. "Class dismissed," Hagrid called as he took Malfoy up to the Hospital Wing.

Hagrid (Robert2424), a Hogwarts Bodyguard has left his class on day 2.

Malfoy milked his injury for everything it was worth. When he finally returned to classes the Gryffindors and Slytherins had Potions together. Snape forced Harry and Ron to assist Malfoy with the preparation of his shrinking potion. Neville sat at the next table. He was clearly struggling with his own shrinking potion as it smoked and gave off a foul stench. Snape very much enjoyed hovering over Neville as he prepared his potion and criticized him as often as he could.

"Mr. Longbottom, in order to urge you to do something correctly for a change, I will be testing your shrinking potion on your toad at the end of today's lesson." Snape smiled curtly as he turned and walked away from Neville's table. The class had begun to discuss Sirius Black as they continued their work. Neville leaned over to Hermione and begged her silently to help him with his potion so that it wouldn't kill his toad.

Malfoy started talking about Sirius Black as well. He goaded Harry saying: "If it was me, I'd want revenge. I'd hunt him down myself." Harry tried to ignore Malfoy as best as he could.

As their potions lesson came to an end, Snape made his way back over to Neville's cauldron and peered inside to see that his potion was at least the proper shade of violet. True to his word, Snape fed Neville's potion to his toad. Trevor shrank to the size of a silver sickle. Snape scowled. "I told you not to help him Miss Granger. 10 points from Gryffindor for your inability to listen." Ron growled quietly as he clenched his fists.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione packed up their potions supplies and left the dungeon. Harry and Ron led the way up the stairs toward the Entrance Hall as they all complained about Snape. As they reached the top of the staircase Hermione appeared right in front of them. Confused, Harry and Ron quickly turned around and looked behind them. Hermione was not there. "When did you..? How did you..?"

"How did I what?" Hermione asked them.

"We thought you were behind us," Ron said.

"Don't be silly," she responded as her overloaded bag ripped and spilled a dozen books onto the floor. Harry and Ron were confused but they helped her collect her books and they all continued on to Defense Against the Dark Arts. Professor Lupin was waiting for them when they arrived. He instructed everyone to place their books and bags on their desks and follow him to the staff room.

The staff room was empty when they arrived except for Snape. Snape insulted Neville and left the room as Professor Lupin began their lesson. "I've brought you to the staff room for today's lesson because I was fortunate enough to find a boggart living in this closet. Can anyone tell me what a boggart is?" Hermione's hand shot into the air.

"Yes, Miss Granger?"

"A boggart is a shape-shifter. It transforms into a person's biggest fear."

"Very good, Miss Granger. Now, there is a very simple spell one can use when dealing with a boggart. The spell is 'Riddikulus'. When you speak the spell you should picture something that will turn your fear into something humorous and non-threatening. How about we try this out? Mr. Longbottom, would you care to help me?"

Neville stared at him for a moment. "Me?" he asked.

"Yes," Lupin replied.

Neville stepped forward cautiously and stood next to Lupin in front of the closet door. Lupin asked Neville quietly what scared him the most.

"Professor Snape" Neville replied weakly.

Lupin gave a small chuckle and clapped Neville on the shoulder urging him forward. "You live with your grandmother if I'm not mistaken. Is that correct Neville?"

"Yes."

"I want you to picture your grandmother's clothing very clearly in your mind. When the boggart emerges from the closet I want you to picture it wearing your grandmother's clothing." Neville nodded.

Lupin counted down from three and opened the closet door. Professor Snape emerged and stepped aggressively toward Neville. "Riddikulus!" Neville shouted as he pointed his wand at the Snape boggart. He was now wearing an old green dress and a giant hat with a large bird on it. The class erupted into laughter as the boggart stopped moving and looked confused.

"Well done, Neville!" Lupin exclaimed. "Everybody line up!"

One by one the class had the opportunity to step forward and face their fears through the boggart. After Parvati Patil had defeated the giant clown in front of her, Ron stepped forward. The boggart immediately transformed into a large black spider. Several students shrieked as they dove out of the way and knocked Neville to the floor.

"Riddikulus" Ron said as eight roller skates appeared at the end of the spider's legs and it crashed to the floor. It was now Harry's turn. He knew what was coming but hadn't quite figured out how to make it humorous yet. The boggart began to shape-shift again but before it had finalized it's form Lupin jumped between it and Harry. It's shape turned into a large glowing silver orb. Lupin shouted Riddikulus and the boggart deflated like a balloon and Lupin locked it back on the closet before hurrying over to Neville who laid still on the floor.

Harry did not know what just happened. The rest of the class was talking excitedly about defeating the boggart but Harry was not excited. Lupin had jumped in front of him and stopped Harry from dealing with the boggart which he was sure would turn into a dementor. He was also confused by what Lupin's boggart turned into. What was the large silvery orb supposed to be?

Lupin ended the lesson as he took Neville to the hospital wing.

Neville Longbottom (Finster Baby), a normal Hogwarts Student, has been knocked out on night 2.

It is now day 3. With 13 players alive it takes 7 to lynch or 4 at deadline.

Neville Longbottom (Finster Baby) has been knocked out on night 2.

- Was he a VT? -

So Robert really was a bodyguard. Not really sure I have much else to say on that. I was surprised to see him flip townie.

As for Finister, I'm not sure why he was picked. He wasn't really targetting anyone. My theory is the scum are cop hunting, they feel the cop would lay low. Another reason people need to pick up activity. Don't make this game so easy for them. We are 3 townies down and zero scum.

Despite being wrong about Robert, I'm still sticking to my 2 other suspects from yesterday. D43th and Maz (Isocialism) now.

Sister Midnight, it is worth noting you didn't reply a lot towards the end of D2 until the lynch had already been voted on. But what you did mention is that despite a large amount of active players feeling Robert was scum, you felt he was town based on a late roleclaim with no way to track. Usually a sure sign he wouldve been scum, despite the odd fact he wasn't. It is as if you wanted to earn townie points (Samus style) by saying 'I didn't vote on the townie. I knew he was a townie.' I still have more concern towards D43th and would like to hear from Isoc. But I'll keep an eye towards you.

I did a quick and dirty read TL;DR. Lot's of fluff pretty much this is what happen. Day one you guys bent over and said, do whatever you want scum. We need to stop with this d1 NL, it's pathetic in most scenarios. Only if you get a lot of talk and bandwagons on d1. Would a NL made since. You guys are so worried about looking like town, and not stepping on toes that your screwing yourselves over on day one. However on day two, you guys did the opposite with little or nothing to go off on, you guys got pressured and hurried up a lynch on Robert. Though, I felt as if Robert didn't make himself an hard person to lynch, besides the RC. It's day three and there's nothing to go off of. You can hope for a role to presents themselves, but your always relaying on them outing themselves. Town, it's alright if people think you scum, it causes decision.

My feelings right now, are looking at who was on the NL wagon and when, and why. Also who sat on robert wagon without much cause of their own.

Hoping for someone/ some role to help you, to present scum is hopeless. It works when it happens, but when it doesn't you have nothing else to go off of.

I wouldn't called Robert lynch hurried. It took whole D + 1 day to do it. Too bad Robert did what he could to make sure he gets lynched. Still I was worried a bit when we got no counter-wagon...at least up to the point some people started voting on Mandarijn without much reason (Finster included).

But when you said that we bend over for the scum on D1, do you believe that we got a little help from the scum to end the day? I'm still thinking we got a scum among the ones that pushed NL to the end...that points to either KingH or SM as possible culprits.

I'm also surprised with Finster's death since I was suspecting him (at least until Robert turned out to be town).

I would think anyone who sat on Roberts wagon are undersuspicion whether they was on the NL wagon or not, especially Ali and yehom who pushed pretty hard for robert to be lynched even after his RC

That should be interesting. Could you please elaborate your thought? I'm curious why are you suspecting me now? I guess being the first one to vote is not enough, so you must have something more on your mind.

We've had 2 nights of activity so somebody knows something.

I don't know anything, but Mandarijn still seems like the best choice for lynch.

Ooooooooh nooooooo! Not Finster!

King H, I posted when I posted because that was when I had the opportunity to post. The fact that you want to spin it as scummy makes you look either paranoid or scummy yourself. I don't ha e time to do a read back, but I will be looking over everyone's reasons for the way the voted, with extra attention to you, King H. Are you permanent-scum?

I had some suspicion of Robert until the role claim, and my reason for believing him was a damned good one, I'm surprised no one else believed him. As King pointed out, I posted way too late to save him, but I didn't see his role claim until then.

Hindsight is 20/20 isn't it. You can't be serious that Robert lynch was 'hurried'. D1 nobody said anything useful, D2 he set himself up by making vague statements about himself and other games and what not, then he got called out about it and he replied with dodgy answers and angry statements that he was 100% right no matter what, because 'he was experienced'. Only on the absolute last day he makes a vague remark that he may have a power role. You can't even call that a RC, because he basically tiptoed his way around it. Like I said D2, whether he was scum or not, it was very badly played on his part. Can't remember whose signature it was, but it sums it up pretty well: talk shit, get hit.

At this point it's too early for me to say who is what. I'd like to hear statements from everybody before jumping to conclusions. For me the most stand out is absolutely Manda. Say what you want about inactivity, but some contribution every once in a while would be nice, or at least a vote. 2 days in a row, Manda has yet to vote anything, just pointing it out.

Maz, and now iSoc I want to wait out and see, because Maz was really really inactive and not contributing at all. If Maz would have still been playing, I would vote for him, but i don't want to punish iSoc for the mistakes that Maz made so I want to see which way the cat jumps.

Are you permanent-scum?

I wish. Scum is more fun :P
You seem upset someone is questioning you? I await a better accusationg against me than "are you perm-scum". If you read back and tell me Robert didn't come off scum-like or that his bodyguard claim seemed fake as can be, I can't help you much.
I feel my accusation against you seemed to strike a nerve.

Isocialism please don't skim Day 2. Day 1 is pretty skimable as not much happened. Day 2 did have some actual posting and defenses and accusations from various people. Worth a read. I do agree with your comment about every is scared to step on toes. I suffer from that alot during day 1s. Definitely something I'll keep in mind in future games.

Wolfpacks, why do you not mention me? Are you scum that is trying to buddy up to me? I was 2nd on Robert and I was pretty vocal about a lynch. I pushed for a lynch after his RC and well before. Why mention AbT and Yehom but not me?

Here, I'll start this since no one has.

Feel they are town:
AbT - Been pretty vocal. I know it is hard to tell when AbT is scum or town because his playstyle doesn't change. I doubt if AbT was scum, he would've been part of the helm on a town lynch.
KevinH - Early Day 2 he came off with some pretty town posts. Lately, however, they seem to be drifting off and holding weak accusations. Not bad enough to look scum, but something to watch for.

Neutral -
Mandarijn - needs replacement. I see the reason people suspect him but I myself don't feel whether he is scum or town. I'd like to hear more.
Rhizo - same as above.
Chaplain- been fairly active compared to others but can't get a read on him.
Wolfpacks - Felt he was doing good as a townie, wouldve been on the townie list if not for his last post. Raises some questions, but nothing too concerning. Just would rather get answers to why he specifically left my name out? (I WANT TO BE SHOWN ATTENTION DAMMIT)
Yehom - cant get a good reas. Same as chaplain.

Scum-feeling:
D43th - the night didn't change my suspicions of you. Hope to hear from you soon.
Sister Midnight - reasons stated above and in previous post. Her defense doesn't really earn her much points in my opinion.
Maz/Isoc - Maz felt scummy. Isocialism blanket accusation against the NL wagon + Robert Wagon is just that. A blanket statement. Like "here I am, this is my generic accusation." I feel we can get more out of him in future posts when he catchs up. Still have my suspicions.

Needs to post more

All we really have are the votes.

Day 1, I think the no-lynch vote was the most townie so my suspicion would go toward those that were not on the wagon.  However, the scum could easily have joined when they realized no other candidate would win.

Day 2, Robert2424 was obviously the wrong choice so my first suspicion is on those that voted for him, but I'll also equally suspect those that didn't vote.  The scum would be very willing to watch townies lynch one of their own.

As an extension to the Day 2 information ... consider that if Mandarijn is scum, then his buddies would have wanted to push any other wagon than his, which happened to be Robert2424's.

I'm not sure who you are suspicious of then. If you view those on Roberts wagon equal to those that weren't, thats everyone. I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to say here as to who you suspect.

Most likely to be townie = those that were on the Mandarijn wagon:

Mandarijn (4): Rhizoctonia, KevinH, Finster Baby, Wolfpacks

Most worthy of a lynch vote = those that didn't vote no lynch Day 1 and have 8 or fewer posts* for the whole game:

Mandarijn, Preston

Sorry KingH did i miss you, i guess you didnt push as hard as the other two, i think you was enjoying winding Robert Up more then anything else, if ive learnt anything in this game that is to keep a cool head, losing it kinda damns you.
I have to agree Kevin here those who jumped on Roberts wagon late have to be under most suspicion especially if it was after his RC.

For continued dedication and tenacity, as a warrior and as military officer. Wolfpacks has been fighting both in this war and the last with complete abandon, he has also been pounding the pavement as Commanding Officer making sure every enemy has been covered.Without members like you IRON would be less of an alliance. Well done.

I was surprised to see Robert flip town after his shaky roleclaim - he did a very good job of making himself look scummy.

Finster being targeted strikes me as odd too - there's not much that distinguished him aside from his voting for the Mandarijn wagon and his posts at the start of D1 that made me suspect him.

That said, KingH's first post of the day strangely questions if Finster was a VT... TW listed him as "a normal Hogwarts Student", so yes? I'm not sure why this was a question.

The Robert wagon presents an interesting case - a townie who was making himself very votable for clear reasons, yet with enough time left in the day for people to hedge pre-lynch "Well maybe Robert isn't scum after all." This applies both to SM who KingH called out today, and also to late joiners for the Mandarijn wagon - Finster and Wolfpacks, of whom Finster just got lynched. The rationale here is that scum *knew* Robert was town, and so once the lynch was secured but before the day ended they could make moves away from him - using their knowledge instead of just what Robert was presenting in the thread.

Speaking to SM specifically, she defends her timing as just when she had the opportunity to post - we can't argue that point despite convenient timing - but also posted this bit in response to KingH:

I had some suspicion of Robert until the role claim, and my reason for believing him was a damned good one, I'm surprised no one else believed him.

Robert's claim was all kinds of shaky SM... he threw out ONLY his name, and when he referenced himself later as a Bodyguard he didnt even clearly claim that's what he was. However from the end of D2, your stance on Robert's claim was this:

Robert's role claim is believable to me because Hagrid is such an important flavor character and no one is counter claiming.  Robert's style is abrasive and overly intense, which doesn't help him, but based on his claim I am not going to vote for him.

Up to now the fake claims have been minor characters, for him to now give major characters as fake claim is a BIG change.

Here is where I remind you the scum have had Ron Weasley twice and Harry Potter once as safe claim names - Ron being part of the main protagonist trio and Harry being the title character - Hagrid isn't anything better than those by comparison. This just underscores the point that you cannot read anything into safe claim names, and that relying on them for your defense is worthless at best, scummy at worst. We've had this exact argument during previous games.

I would think anyone who sat on Roberts wagon are undersuspicion whether they was on the NL wagon or not, especially Ali and yehom who pushed pretty hard for robert to be lynched even after his RC

This line jumps out to me Wolfpacks - doubly so since you made a point of hedging yourself on the Mandarijn wagon at the end of D2, after Robert's lynch was basically a foregone conclusion. There was substantial reason to suspect Robert at the time; just because you now know after the fact Robert was town, are you going to claim we should have known D2?

I'll post more later today when I have more time, but Wolfpacks is looking more notable to me today on the basis of the argument he is making. I'd also like to give iSocialism a chance to talk more and establish himself, but largely agree with his initial post - so far we've screwed up, badly. Here's hoping our night roles got lucky.

The narrative was updated Preston. The question Finisters role was because the normal hogwarts student part was not included originally. The original text is what I wrote at the top of my post. Didnt realize it was updated though, thanks for pointing it out.

Also I dont think we should rely too.much on our night roles. Granted we should absolutely hope they get something, we should continue the game as if they arent alive. It is D3 and I feel we should wait for a role claim for 1 more day. That gives 3 results and 1 more if a doctor is alive.
