[KH-21] JOAT^2 Town Wins

If you want a vote,

Vote: WP

Personally I think that WP is the better choice to lynch today, despite me thinking he may not be one of our scum, no lynches won’t do much good at this point.

I’m trying to pick up my voting habits so I don’t have ole brewers smacking me about not voting in every game haha

I think a lot of people are scared to vote because if they end up being the lynching vote on a townie, everyone will go after them. Not necessarily a scum tell, but could point to it.

I mean just don't be a hypocrite. If your going to say we can't afford a no lynch, then you better be voting for someone. Eventually, the non voters are going to be targeted.

VOTE: Rafay

After his outburst when the day started he went silent again, and while WP might be a viable target, his commentary from the beginning of the day still has me convinced he is one of the scum we're looking for.

Can we afford a no lynch today?

i always tend to vote near the deadline so no need to worry about me :P

i feel ferastical to be more of a scum unless he can convince me other wise so

Not Voting: Rafay, The Warrior,

With 12 alive, it takes 7 to lynch or 4 at deadline.

Deadline is Tuesday, September 15 at 16:00 EDT. (3 hours from now)

I am back to a computer so I can finally do a full analysis on why I think Ferastical is scum.  He has been wagon jumping this entire game and switching to whomever looks like they might get lynched.  It all starts here

The strategy is not about not hunting scum, it's about waiting for anything, literally anything that could positively confirm who scum is. There is definitely not a 20% chance that we will lynch scum, it's rather much lower. You are forgetting the human aspect of this, scum will talk their way out and we will most definitely end up lynching a townie. Add a NK to that, and we've already lost 2 influential people.     No Lynch is a no-brainer.   Vote: No Lynch

Then he does this

Unvote: No Lynch   Lynching is the only thing guaranteed to be in the hands of the town. Less lynching = free kills for scum   I guess I've always wanted to seem as townie/neutral as possible. Time to finally step out of my comfort zone.   Vote: Brewersalliance

Which put me to here

brewersalliance (4): Lilweirdward, Torres951, Tony Maurice, Ferastical,

one vote shy of the threshold to be lynched on D1

basically all of the votes come off me and I am no longer in line to be lynched and then he does this

Unvote

then we go on to day 2.  I start to pick up steam for a lynch once again:

brewersalliance (3): Robert2424, Lyner, Ali bin Turban,

and ferastical once again does this:

Wait, we're using posts in different game threads to provide for our scum reads now? Seems just like brewers specifically went out of his way to dig up something to put the spotlight on Lyner... You can't compare people to machines and expect them to use the same strategy all the time. Different setups, different players, tons of posts to look upon, every situation is different.   Vote -> Brewersalliance

then ABT and Lyner unvote me and it no longer looks like a lynch of me is viable so ferastical does this:

Unvote -> Brewersalliance

no one is really in danger of being lynched at this point on d2 as the tone starts to shift as a group to no lynch so he joins that wagon

Vote -> No Lynch

d3 Ferastical is extremely quiet but shows up just in time to do this

That being said, everything I've seen so far has lead me to make a choice to VOTE -> Tony Maurice

It puts tony right in line to be lynched

now at this point the finster Wagon starts to take off and the votes become tied

Finster Baby (4): Lyner, Wolfpacks, Ali bin Turban, Tony Maurice, Tony Maurice (4): brewersalliance, Lord MK, Finster Baby, Ferastical,

IF Ferastical is scum, I would not be shocked if FInster is a partner.  Ferastical does not jump ship onto the new wagon here, but instead holds his vote steady on someone who is now confirmed as town, so if I am right about Ferastical, Finster should be our next target

Now back to my Ferastical is scum thingy

Ferasitcal starts out with "congratulating the doctor"  yes several people (myself included) did do this, so this for me is just a small piece of the puzzel

Nicely done, JOAT.

I point out that scum tend to be in the middle of the wagons, not the wagon starter and then Ferastical says this

Can you really bring the order that people vote as sufficient evidence someone is scum? Especially if you're in the wagon yourself...

now  wagon starts to form on Lord MK  so Ferastical does this

Vote -> Lord MK

putting him here

Lord MK (3): Lyner, Robert2424, Ferastical,

then ABT starts to push the Wolfpacks is scum wagon and Ferastical jumps off MK right onto wolfpacks

If you know you know it, why no vote? See, like this:   Vote -> Wolfpacks

now according to Mafia scum.net (link here)

  1. Congratulate the doctor on successful protection: Is scum or doctor (+20, +10)
  2. WishyWashy voting (+10)
  3. Third person on a wagon is likely to be mafia (+15)
  4. Fourth person on a wagon is likely to be mafia (+10)
  5. Admitting someone is a townie without saying "IF" (+10) (mafia knows for sure who isn't mafia)
  6. Mafia generally have more information than other players, so whoever picks up on tells/hints easiest is more likely to be mafia (+10%). There are some notable exceptions. Experience and skill should be taken into consideration.

so what do we have with ferasitcal?  well several times he has waggon hopped onto someone to put them in danager of a lynch and then jumped off when the steam starts to fade.  He has consistantly been in position 3 and 4 while voting, AND then he also congratulated the doctor

He has been in the middle of legit every single wagon in this game other than finster.  according to this post on scum tells on mafia scum https://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Mastin%27s_Insane_Tells

After some experience off-site (this section is written as of 12/29/10), I came to an interesting conclusion: the scum there almost always had a particular voting range: votes 2-6. Why was that? Why that particular zone? Why were the scum almost always right there? I found the answer. Why?

Because it's right in the middle of a wagon. It's not just on MafiaScum where people late on the bandwagon are considered scummy, you know. That seems to be pretty universal, actually. But why not the first vote? It's simple scum reasoning, really. People voting early are not likely to be scum, because they're pushing for a lynch early, which is risky as scum. Quite simply put, while scum CAN start a wagon, they don't want to.

For starters, they need pro-town players lynched. A new bandwagon has no guarantee of achieving this. Scum being the pragmatic folks they are tend to want a more practical approach: stick with what's there, already. More than that, there's always a risk their started wagon IS successful. What happens to the original starter of the wagon? They will almost universally catch flak. Sure, probably not much and easily deflected, but still, scum don't like that kind of attention on them.

As for why they don't vote late? As mentioned, EVERYONE knows it's a scumtell. Everyone. That includes the scum, by the way. And as we all know, things evolve over time. Including how scum play. We all know scum voting late in a wagon is a scumtell. Therefore, scum try to avoid it at all costs. Because it's common knowledge that scum arrive late on the wagon, scum...won't arrive late on the wagon. Simple as that. It's so common, in fact, that this knowledge might as well make the tell null.

"But Mastin!" you cry. "If they don't want to be early on the wagon, yet hate to be late on the wagon, what do they do? Stay off every wagon?!? That makes no sense!" Well, let's not ramble on about that. (Fencesitting is a personal tell of mine; always has been. But as I have done it before, I recognize there's a difference between town-fencing and scum-fencing.) Instead of focusing on people not on the wagon, let's focus on a third category:

People in the middle.

"What's so bad about being in the middle?!?" Well, true, town can be in the middle, too. It's just that it's far more likely to come from scum. Why? Process of elimination. Simply put, scum want the middle. They want that sweet spot which most players overlook in a wagon. People pay attention to the wagon-starters. People pay attention to the late-wagoners. Not nearly as many people pay attention to the middle--and as scum, that makes it the perfect hangout, no? Scum prefer to be in the MIDDLE of a wagon, which (depending on the game's size) is anywhere from votes 2-6. I call it the "Butter Zone". Where the scum have the least amount of chance (by current site meta expectations) to be found. If everyone looks at the end, and everyone looks at the beginning, hang out in the middle. My "second to vote" tell was me stumbling onto something far greater than I thought. I failed to realize the number of 2 was mainly focused on newbie games, which (being smaller) would make the zone 2-3, possibly 2-4.

So exactly where he has been living this entire game with his votes

When you look at his actions this entire game, I think he is most likely scum.

and also if you look at the first two quotes I posted he does two more things that are considered usually to be scum tells:  contradicts himself in game and claims to be trying to appear as town as possible

No Lynch is a no-brainer.

vs

Lynching is the only thing guaranteed to be in the hands of the town. Less lynching = free kills for scum

and then this

I guess I've always wanted to seem as townie/neutral as possible.

After his outburst when the day started he went silent again, and while WP might be a viable target, his commentary from the beginning of the day still has me convinced he is one of the scum we're looking for.

That's actually a really good point, thanks for bringing that up, I'd already forgotten  :D

And to everyone suspecting me of wagon jumping on purpose, I decided to put on my big boy pants and actually vote instead of passively spectating 'til deadline, we absolutely need those votes, as they are literally the only way we can give scum a taste of their own medicine

If you want the reason behind my vote, well... let me play this out for you what I saw with my own eyes

Wolfpacks: AbT good

ABT:isn't scum either but seem to have a grudge against me,

AbT: Alloweth me giveth thee 2 reasons wherefore I bethink thou art scum

Wolfpacks: - yesterday you've jumped off Finster's wagon when it reached the same number of voters as Tony's wagon. Now you're saying, that you think he's a scum. - yesterday you were buing in with Robert about Brewers, that he's a scum. Now you're saying that he does not sound scummy to you. To me it seems, that you have no readings at all. You sound like a scum making things up.

Wolfpacks (4 hours later btw): AbT scum

Tbh I cant get full readout I wasnt sure of the third scum member until now, but if I do get lynched and I will turn up town remember who started the witch hunt Abt, then Ferastical. VOTE Abt

I mean, if Brewers is willing to push a wagon for Lyner contradicting himself over things he said 2 months ago... how's 4 hours for you?

@robert to answer your question in a concise way as I am on my phone rn I feel like he is a scum because

1. I did not see him do much of scum hunting (strange coming from myself agreed)

2. he keeps moving from one vote to the other multiple times a day

3. Always has a vague reasoning and tends to wander his thoughts ever so much usually

I just noticed that brewers did a better job at collecting the things as what I was thinking...

also I do vote near the deadlines almost every time unless I am certain about things gives me more time to analyse what each person has said voting people early and then changing my mind is something which gets unwanted attention onto me and I feel it is good to have a clear mind you can always ask me why I voted for someone and I will have my reasoning in front of you

I am back to a computer so I can finally do a full analysis on why I think Ferastical is scum.  He has been wagon jumping this entire game and switching to whomever looks like they might get lynched.  It all starts here

Holy crap

That's like... like top-notch research. I literally don't want to say anything else but... well done, wow.

also let me make it clear the only other person I feel like voting rn is WP but I am not voting him just because whenever I see him playing he always posts less

also I do think I am not good at picking up readings as good as you guys so maybe I am just getting manipulated into thinking this way

based on the comments from WP and things he has said,  I think one of WP or ferastical will be scum (potentially both if there is a busing situation going on here)

I still think there has been a lot more going on all game with ferastical so I am keeping my vote as is.

One thing I really want to say is that at the very beginning, yes, I was trying really hard to not lynch anyone because I basically didn't know what I was doing and had the obvious paranoia of the blame being pushed on me. I've since changed that stance (after countless arguments too, FYI) and probably will keep it up in future games.

I don't know if WP is scum, you don't really know if I'm scum, but we need to lynch someone, so it's okay. I just want you to really think about this, 'aight? I doubled down as an active voter for a reason, because we need these discussions! Even discussions about why people think I'm scum (although it is quite sad tbh)!

I don't believe there's a busing being done here. He joined Wolfpacks wagon as a second person and we're still far from reaching consensus on whom to lynch.

I don't trust Wolfpacks and Finster (who's apparently trying to lay low and made irrelevant vote on Rafay, so that noone bothers him for not voting).

Right now I'm leaning towards Robert, Lyner, MK, Rafay, Velocity, Ferastical being town.

another thing i find interesting is how WP has not switched his vote onto ferastical.  It is a competing wagon and he could tie them at three each and potentially save himself.

Lets consider why he hasnt from the PoV of both WP as scum and town

If Scum:

WP knows every players alignment including Ferastical.

If ferastical is town he could jump onto that wagon and hope to get a lynch of a townie and move scum closer to victory.  yes he would probably be the next lynch but he is in danger of dying already so might as well take a townie with him, so if WP is scum, and ferastical is town, it would make more sense for him to jump onto ferastical then stay off him.

If ferastical is scum, WP probably wouldnt want to put one of his partners closer to lynch, and potentally get ferastical lynched because WP himself is under a lot of pressure as a scum suspect so he could in essence end up causing 2 of the three scum to die.  If WP and Ferastical are both scum I do not think it would make sense for him to jump onto that wagon.

If Town:

WP has no idea anyone's alignment.  He could jump onto Ferastical to save himself but if WP is a VT, he seems to have his mind made up that ABT is scum so if hes actually town, it would kind of make sense he holds his vote on ABT and doesnt jump onto Ferastical.

so basically what I am saying is I do think WP's actions after this post/results if he is lynched will be telling

this once again feels like Ferastical trying to point out to the town how townie he is.  I know there is a term for it as a specific scum sign but I cannot remeber the term.  Something like look at me, im town or similar i think lol

You forgot to add that such a wagon jumping in order to save ones hide is perceived very scummy and thus one could expect other players to pile on his wagon. As a result he'd gain nothing apart from reassuring others about his own alignment.

this once again feels like Ferastical trying to point out to the town how townie he is.

lol

okay, I won't say anything then, as it seems everything I say will be held against me

You forgot to add that such a wagon jumping in order to save ones hide is perceived very scummy and thus one could expect other players to pile on his wagon. As a result he'd gain nothing apart from reassuring others about his own alignment.

correct however we are very late in the day, and its basically to the point that if he is scum he would have nothing to lose, as deadline is what? less than two hours away and he is currently in line to be lynched

edit wait never mind, he is at three votes and needs 4 for the lynch.  was thinking we had 11 players left not 12.    so i guess as of right now WP is actually not in line for a lynch, no one is

so we need people to either switch their votes or have TW show up and vote in the next 45 min

Thats right we are 45 min from deadline.  its crunch time people

The arguments about Ferastical and Wolfpacks are both interesting. I don't personally have a strong scum read on either of them. Ferastical's actions could be scummy (as pointed out by the information Brewers linked from the mafiawiki) but it could also be that he just doesn't know what to do and is just trying to follow others. Wolfpacks on the other hand isn't really acting any different than he does in any other game so it's hard to read. Deadline is in 20 minutes though and unless other people vote in the last couple minutes Wolfpacks might be our only choice since he is currently leading the vote and we need to do something. At the very least we might get some direction on what to do tomorrow by lynching one of them and seeing what their alignment ends up being.

Vote: Wolfpacks
