  1. Who's going to see it? My area is expected to be packed with people. I may just go out into the mountains to watch it and take a camping trip. No town around here is designed to cope with the amount of people expected to come here, so it's going to suck. The internet is expected to get really slow anyway, so I may just disappear for a week or so. Where will you be?

  7. Western foreign policy has been atrocious my entire life. Sometimes it literally makes me want to cry seeing how the only thing I've known is a constant state of war. The west is so backwards on this that it shouldn't be possible. But it is. And all because of places like Saudi Arabia and our dependence on their garbage. And our elite don't care at all. "A bomb in NYC? Oh well. At least it didn't kill me or my investors" - every elite ever. In our western system, lives literally have monetary value and this crap will not end until we end their psychotic, greed fueled regime. I just don't see any other way. The downside to that is fracturing ourselves and out own society to make it happen, which could have equally bad results. Thanks, Bush and Cheney. You'll certainly have a special place in any history books that may remain.
  8. Problem is, there is simply no way to know when the next attack it coming and you cannot simply "crack down" on an ideological insurgency without ridiculously violating basic human rights. Getting out of the middle east would be a good start. Not bombing Libya or Syria would be better start. Not trying to dictate the Muslim world might just be the best start.
  9. Clay slugs are amazing, btw.
  10. Her comment was actually exactly what liberalism is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberalism Left/Right doesn't necessarily equal Conservative/Liberal. They were absolutely liberals. They're liberalism largely revolutionized the worlds politics. The constitution is the oldest liberal governing document in the world. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberalism#American_Revolution Modern American liberalism and conservatism are both based on the classical liberalism. The only difference is views on markets and their interpretation of liberty.
  11. I mean in one of these: I'm bored and looking for interesting things to fire out of a shotgun. These wax slugs are actually pretty amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfbrP7ujerE Thinking of trying it with clay instead of wax. Wrench sockets and paper balls are pretty interesting as well. :V What kinds of home made shotgun loads do you think are interesting or fun to shoot?

  13. He banned abortion and homosexuality. :V Seriously though, among the communist party rulers of the USSR, Stalin was considered a centrist. He actually aligned himself with Bukharin and the right wingers in the government to force out the Trotsky camp. Then he turned on Bukharin and sidelined all the right wingers. He had some socially conservative policies and ideals that we'd often associate with the right wing in modern times, but he was a socialist in all reality, or more accurately, a Stalinist.

  15. Could be worse. Could be John Kirby.
  16. Stupid. Just stupid. The one thing I liked about Trump and he couldn't even keep that campaign promise. They have to act like they're doing something, or no one anywhere else will fear them. It's either send a ship to wave at us, or abandon Syria... they sent a ship to wave at us. It will be best for them to negotiate the removal of Assad and the end of ISIS, but I don't know how the Syrians feel about Russian influence in their country. We shall see. Why is removing Assad so important? Why not just leave him alone and let the Syrians solve their own problems? Also, Syria is a very valuable strategic ally to Russia as well as their biggest arms buyer. I wouldn't expect Russia to stand by and watch. First... Congress is not Commander in Chief, the President is. The President can use military force in a limited action without approval of Congress. It's been this way since WWII. Second... Sarin Gas is illegal by international law. We are obligated to act, even when no one else has the courage. I like Rand Paul too, and I respect your Libertarian position on this issue. Opinion noted, but Trump chose a different path. This isn't the first time chemical weapons have been used in Syria. The only reason we're even doing this now is because the rebels lost Aleppo and now we have nobody to fight our proxy war. So we're starting a whole new direct war. As if we didn't have enough wars already. Iraq 3.0 here we come.

  18. My critique of TWD: I'm normally a fan of zombie flicks and TWD was pretty good the first few seasons. Watching the initial episode, it felt too close to 28 days later when Jim wakes up in a hospital. Moving on, we meet new characters and lose them in an everly suspenseful amount as you slowly get a taste for who will be the big main characters. The whole build up to the inevitable faceoff between Rick and his police partner (forgot his name) took a bit too long IMO and seemed slightly overdone on the emotional build up. Up until the Prison, and even during the prison, the story went pretty great. Seeing Rick lose his mind, his son "grow up" and the various build ups of other characters was pretty interesting. The whole Governor thing had its up's and downs. I mean aside from the dumb blonde girl who always seems to hook up with the worst men and never dies, a few points of it just seemed exaggerated with how nobody questions him. Overall, the whole prison bit was about where the show hit it's peak for me. After this, the survivors separate while Rick and those who stayed together end up in another town identical to Terminus called Alexandria. Only real difference is that this town isn't run by a an alcoholic psychopath. Course, like the people of Terminus, they aren't incredibly bright either and just like in Terminus, the gang finds themselves at odds with a walled off town of survivors trying to recreate normalcy in a zombie apocalypse. During this time, I think the story of Rick and those in Alexandria is just an uncreative repeat of Terminus, however the character builds/reintroductions to those lost or outside the town was pretty great. Really the only memorable parts for me in that whole shebang. Anyway, it's vaguely around that point where I left off. Yet unlike most zombie flicks, even ones that are far dumber and cheaper than this, I just don't really feel any desire to continue watching.
  19. Oh snap. The walking dead is still going? I stopped watching after someone in this forum spoiled for me that Glen dies. Now I just don't want to watch it. Also because the whole jump from one barricaded paradise town to another with an identical plot just seemed so repetitive I felt like the creators were getting lazy.
  20. Yes, but written language is definitely an invention. Which lead to many of the other greatest inventions.
  21. Yes. Language is part our evolution and is instinctive.
  22. If humans couldn't talk, that would be impossible to imagine since our pre-human ancestors could talk and because of that, we have an instinctive nature to talk. As for the rest of your comment, do realize that all languages are related? Do you realize how new languages come into existence? English is Germanic thus related to German, etc, etc? If I see anyone in this forum who should watch the lecture I posted above, it's probably you. Spoken language has allowed us to pass on ideas to future generations. While written language has allowed us to pass on ideas to numerous, almost endless future generations. The words of Jesus, Muhammad and Moses can only be known via written language. Even though they were written in something other than English, they can still be known to us, who speak English. Because of written language, the greatest thing ever thought of.
  23. Lys, do you not respect peoples personal privacy? This is a subject I would expect both a liberal and conservative to agree on. You seem to brush it off as "no big deal" when that's something I'd expect to hear from an Obama supporter. Aren't you conservatives supposed to be all for less government and more independence from government? Or are you just a neo-con who supports all the big government policies and pretends to be conservative for personal gains? Also, I'm not spending extra money on my already ridiculous internet bill to not have my browsing sold to random people. And I will not have my browsing sold to random people. So you know where this is going, I hope.
