It's Happening.... Again

The Happening.... *not* crap M. Night Shyamalan version

Scenario:

The once quiet town of Samwise Gamgee has been having some trouble recently: movie attendance is down, happiness seems at an all time low, and no-one is buying Valentine's cards! One resident - Donald Sutherland, a Canadian character actor with a film career spanning over 50 years - seems to remember a movie he once starred in that had a similar plot. He announces to the town there can only be ONE cause: people are being replaced by replicas grown from plantlike pods! He calls his out-of-town friend (and co-star in the 1978 movie), Leonard Nimoy, who reminds him how the movie had a totally crap ending for Humanity, and persuades Sutherland to run away with him. Together they will find William Shatner's truck bed camper (which he still lives in) and attempt to turn it into an inter-stellar ship.

Meanwhile, the nice townfolk stare at each other in confusion. What should decent, smart people do? MOVE, of course. What are YOU gonna do? Try to figure out who the pod guys are and lynch 'em during the daylight! I'm not kidding, folks. That's the plan, unless you want to "make like Sutherland" or "pull a Nimroy." Which would be totally lame, and your future children would disown you.

So there is good news and bad news. The bad news is, the pod people move at night - and might switcheroo OR kill one of the townsfolk (never both). The good news is, due to their desire to blend in, they will never switcheroo to a equal number or majority. If there are 3 townsfolk and 1 pod person, the next morning there will still be 3 townsfolk (if noone was murdered). If pod people outnumber or equal the Innocents during the day, the pods win, if the Innocents wipe out the pod people, Donald Sutherland can come home.

Rules:

[01] Votes should be in bold. If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted, unless you're clever and add it to the spreadsheet also. Failsafe system!

[02] Please put some effort into making posts longer than 1 or 2 sentences. I can't force you to do it, but it would be helpful.

[03] Lynching will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, their pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded. The exception to this rule is if the deadline is reached, and no majority has been achieved - see below *

[04] You may vote: no lynch. Majority votes of this kind are necessary to end the day without a death.

[05] Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. You can make a single “Bah!” post but no relevant information.

[06] No small text. Don’t edit/delete previously submitted posts either.

[07] Don’t quote any PMs from me. If you do, I will destroy you.

[08] If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you. If you do not submit a choice to me, I’ll flip a coin or get creative, depending on how much I've had to drink.

[09] If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 24-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.

[10] If you have any questions at all, please PM me or post the question in the thread.

[11] Remember, it’s a game and it’s supposed to be fun. Be nice to your fellow players.

*"What happens if the deadline is reached, and there is no 'majority'?" This is most likely to happen if either (1) some people are inactive, or don't vote or (2) the spread of votes is evenly distributed. In scenario 1, all those unvoting members at the deadline become "abstaining" and lose their vote that round, and in the case of (2) whoever has the oldest vote of lynch gets it. Believe it or not, this is to HELP the townies, trust me.

Vote for a player to be lynched by posting and using the NIFTY SPREADSHEET BELOW. The spreadsheet shows you (at any moment) how things stand, the posting is so historically people can look back and decide how evil or decent you are. Yes, we can also post votecounts, but the spreadsheet is the best way to make sure I don't miss something or screw up. If there are 2 players with the same amount of votes at deadline, then I will lynch the one who reached that number of votes first.

Players:

1/ ScoutX

2/ Falzis

3/ Aquinas

4/ CanucksDynasty

5/ KevinH

6/ Electric Mango

7/ Narsis

8/ Tobias Greene

Finally....

THE NIFTY SPREADSHEET OF AWESOMENESS

The above link is to a spreadsheet which lists everyone still alive, and a column for each player. This is to save me the endless back and forth that I've seen here. Open the sheet, find the column at the top with your name, and then place an X in that column under who you want killed (list of candidates is on the left).

YOU SHOULD ALL HAVE PMs SITTING IN YOUR INBOX WITH CHARACTERS. LET ME KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY SNAGS.

Votes are in, and the people have spoken. I will update here shortly when I have figured out exactly where Donald is hiding.... since the hammer has fallen, please refrain from posting here until I get the next block of story up, and we kickstart the nighttime.

Cheers.

Turn them out, knaves all three

Since the best question has already been asked, we must draw our attention to the next question - and the next body. When the basis of all action is rumour, and rumour itself is little less than infant legend, these men of Samwise Gamgee are not just fighting for their lives; they are creating legends. But how will these legends depict them? Will they recall the town council's acts of bravery? Or possibly the town council acting in wisdom? Or maybe - the council as tyrants?

There is little these heavy-hearted people can do but push on and make the call. The call to action was made, and it was chosen. Not a light decision - I should add - no matter what Falzis' current affiliation was at the time of his demise, he baptized the townsfolk's children and blessed their deceased relatives. And as that robe was slung over the lowest branch of the town common tree, few met his eyes.

Well, one did.

As the others ignored his pleas and re-slung the robe over the SECOND lowest branch of the tree (you can't have a hanging when the branch is 5 ft, and the poor priest is at least 5'9"), one man raised and stared into those soon-to-be-glassy orbs of fear.

...........I guess Pod people, too, fear death.

As the jerking of Falzis' body slowly came to a standstill, the clothes began to hiss and drop to the floor as the body melted. From where the drippings splat on the grass, a strange yet beautiful purple flower grew. Maybe the townsfolk would mow the lawn later - maybe they would let it be. But for now, there was one less Pod person among them - and they had stepped one pace closer to the brave and wise council of legend.

NIGHT TWO commences.

Nice job on the lynch everyone.

We now need a vote count recap to see who voted for Falzis and who didn't. I looked at the spreadsheet but it had already been cleared. Obviously anyone who didn't vote for Falzis is now extra guilty, me included. Also the vets should be looked at even more so.

Also, how will the town ever win? Each day we lynch a pod person, a new one takes his place at night. I think the odds are stacked in favor of the pod people.

"How will the town ever win?" One man cries out in despair, while drowning his sorrows in the local pub the next morning. Despite the hours that had passed since Falzis disintegrated into purple flowery mush, the memory was still fresh in the townsfolk's minds - and the good cheer of yesterday seemed muted by the harsh realities of today. One folk had made an excellent suggestion, however - the brightness of the day may be clouded by suspicion and fear, but you can't see clouds from the inside of a bar.

So here they all crowd, with their gin-and-tonics and pints, mulling over the possibility that today might bring another lynching. And woe be the man who doesn't buy the next round of swill.

One innocent dead, one Pod man gone. The balance rests on a knife edge, and today's actions will speak volumes on the future of Samwise.

DAY 3 COMMENCES

If we don't have a majority vote (which starts the lynch), deadline is MIDNIGHT SUNDAY 1/31 your time.

Edited by Bastille Hades

Unofficial D2 Vote Count:

Falzis: CanucksDynasty, KevinH, ScoutX, Narsis

CanucksDynasty: Falzis, Electric Mango

Not voting: Aquinas

I'll most likely be out of touch Saturday and Sunday so I'll have to do some analysis now and then vote tomorrow.

Electric Mango: While he was one of the two remaining that didn't vote for Falzis, his vote came when we didn't know for sure about Falzis. I think he's townie.

ScoutX: Put the 3rd vote on Falzis which is a definite townie move.

Narsis: Secured the lynch and ended the day early. He could have voted for CD and forced Aquinas to choose between Falzis and CD.

CanucksDynasty: Started in on Falzis and didn't let up.

Aquinas: Didn't vote but it didn't really matter with the day ending early.

So who is scum? It's hard to say. It's even harder to say which two of you are scum, assuming a conversion happened last night.

@ BH: due to the war may i suggest we put this on hold?

Due to the war, the Sunday deadline is flexible. If people feel they can come and make votes etc, I'm not going to stop them - but obviously if on Monday morning we have 2 posts and a dead board I'm not going to go crazy. Enjoy the war, chaps, and get here when you can. I'll be waiting :P

All things considered, I think Aquinas is the best lynch candidate.

Vote: Aquinas

All things considered, I think Aquinas is the best lynch candidate.

Vote: Aquinas

Why is that?

1/ ScoutX -

2/ Falzis - lynched pp

3/ Aquinas -

4/ CanucksDynasty -

5/ KevinH -

6/ Electric Mango -

7/ Narsis -

8/ Tobias Greene - lynched townie

6 people left.

No one died so it seems pp converted someone else.

Therefore there is 4 townies and 2 mafia (pp).

Worst case scenario

1. Mis-lynch townie = 3 townies and 2 mafia left.

2. Mafia nk = 2 townies and 2 mafia left = mafia win.

So basically...I think today is LYLO.

So a majority lynch would be 4 votes.

The only way for town to win is for this to go down to 3 people left (2 townies and 1 mafia) and then correctly lynching mafia.

There might be some power roles to help but I don't know.

Wow, if I were you guys I would be really suspicious of Aquinas and me. We were the only two who did not vote for Falzis and the ones who did vote for him look pretty solid. It would be crazy wifom for them to vote for one of their own.

From an outside point, I look to be a better profile match between Aquinas and me, due to my edge in experience. I can only tell you that I am a vanilla townie and I will always "double bag". Since I know it's not me, it has to be Aquinas.

I'm sure I won't be let off the hook easily so feel free to interrogate me at your leisure.

I do suspect you since you voted alongside Falzis.

Vote: Electric Mango

As KevinH posted before ...

However, "scumminess" will 100% carry over...

like you i suspected that an experienced player was converted(and likely again last night). that said everyone(except maybe ScoutX) has a good enough grasp of the game to be a possible target.

the question now is: was your vote against CD due to suspecting him of being a PP...or from trying to save your buddies skin? i'm still thinking about it...

What? We're IRON. We can war and Mafia at the same time. I spent six weeks in a thread where the principal form of recreation was juggling geese. My hand to God. Baby geese. Goslings. They were juggled.

If there were more people, I'd say that someone who voted for Faliz could have been just covering their tracks. There were two goons by my count though. They should have been able to swing the vote. I'm putting my money on that they tried. EM and Faliz both voted for CanucksDynasty. Anyone that doesn't find that damning is surely a pod person themselves now (there are two of them again).

Definitive vote: Electric Mango

Unofficial D2 Vote Count:

Not voting: Aquinas

but I don't feel I am any more scummy than any of the other non voters.

... except there are not any other non-voters.

What does "double bag" mean?

We can war and Mafia at the same time.

I definitely agree with that!

maybe you guys can mafia/war at the same time but i cant. got midterms coming up and the war and all that...dont have enough time to give this game it's proper due.
  • Author

Due to my figures, I see only three votes: Scout for Electric, CD for Electric, and Kevin for Aquinas.

Due to my earlier post, I'm not going to close D2 due to the war etc going on unless we have a consensus. So I'll keep an eye here for people posting decisions, and when we have the right number we can progress to the 'next level.'

It was flavor from my role pm. I'm the town's grocer. I help people get what they need and carry to their car if necessary. I'm a famous double bagger.

Got it.

For whatever reason, I could only think of the joke (in poor taste) about measuring the ugliness of girls ...

I really, really, really think Aquinas is the best lynch candidate.

I agree with EM that it would be a crazy WIFOM to have the scum vote to lynch one of their own. EM has been very townie in his postings and it would be in the town's best interest to keep him around.

We are dealing with Hades here. I can only assume that was the intention.

For whatever reason, I could only think of the joke (in poor taste) about measuring the ugliness of girls ...

He was referring to my double bagging comment. The joke goes that some girls are so ugly you have to put a bag over their head to have sexy times with them. Some are so bad you want to double bag them just in case....

So anyways, I'm a townie.
