Good episode, although I kind of wonder how they managed to cover the Khal meeting hall with oil without someone noticing.

I feel Olly gets an ill deserved amount of hate. 

 

The wildlings killed his parents in front of him. He became in that moment a refugee in his own lands, and was forced to either starve or work as a servant to the Commander of a small garrison of cut throats, thieves and rapists, led by the cast outs of the wealthy in society, a brutal society where lives are short, men are driven by revenge and punishment is harsh. In this world Olly, a child, is forced to act as servant to the man who pardoned the people who killed his parents. 

 

Then a group of these violent men come to him and tell him they are going to kill the man who pardoned those that killed his parents. Now young Olly knows two things-these hardened cut throat bastards would kill him in a moment, and in his world its kill or be killed. Revenge and fear are powerful motivators for an adult. For a child, growing up with horror far from civilisation, how much blame can you attached to him? 

 

Especially as Jon basically handwaves the entire thing as though it doesn't matter. They raided for years-before the winter, before the white walkers started driving them south. Not out of need, but because they liked raiding. Because their unstructured backwards civilisation didn't give them the tools they needed to build proper societies, they stole from those that ordered their lives to pay for their "free" life. They are not good people. They are not nice people. Yet Jon saves them, for entirely pragmatic reasons (to fight the white walkers), but then handwaves the entire moral questionableness of allying with these people.

Well that's a nice analysis Ice, but the point is that in the world of GoT, it's not good vs. evil... it's us vs. them. In a Monarchy, your personal feelings do not matter, it's whatever your King or Liege Lord desires, and any betrayal of your oath will end this way. I was thinking the best defense for all of them would have been that since Jon is alive, no murder took place... but that still does not absolve the betrayal.

 Every bit.Understandable does not mean justified. He didn't see reason, he didn't see that these wildlings weren't the same people who killed his parents, he didn't see that these wildlings were composed of fearful children, mothers and old too, just as they consisted of frightened men running away from the white walkers. He knew it was true, he knew the white walkers were coming and he chose to let revenge prevail over reason and killed his Commander.

 

He doesn't get a free pass just because he was a kid. He has no sympathy from me.

Just saw all the four episodes today(due to my exams).My views on current season.

 

1)Prince Doran dead!!!!!  -lol they completely messed up the Drone story line,I was half expecting the killing of Myrcella was his plan.But I guess Drone is just disappointment in shows.

 

2)The resurrection scene of Jon Snow was quite weak and Danny immune to fire .Seems as GRRM and show writers had some sort of understanding to not to reveal book plot in show anymore.Cause I m sure when in books Dany will be saved and those khals will burned,it will be from Dragon fire or rather say by Dorogon's fire (which would have looked awesome on show!!!),.And Jon snow resurrection will also be something big with rituals and maybe some sacrifice(maybe Tehon's sacrifice?) 

 

3)And now this is big-Hodor could actually speak and not only that he was a pretty normal person.Now the question is what caused Hodor to become Hodor.I cant recall correctly but wasnt we told somewhere down the line in shows or in books that Hodor once as a kid went into crypts of winterfell.Could it be that he saw something there,maybe the Great Other  or Night King? or maybe something related to others which eventually caused rise of others.Maybe this is why there is saying A stark must always be at winterfell.Because starks were guarding something which was in those crypts since the long night.

 

In my opinion this might turn out to be as big as R+L=J  or maybe I m just over speculating

Now we all can agree that Jon Snow is now a man.The only point I see in ollys death which is important from Storyline's point of view,is that it was the breaking point for Jon Snow.He can fight wild lings,kill his brothers for duty,kill his girlfriend for duty,he can kill those who are already dead for duty but killing a small boy!!! thats too much for even Jon snow,hence he quit.Thats it,he is no longer interested in being lord commander,its just too much for him.

I think in the books it's mentioned somewhere that Hodor became Hodor after an accident involving horses.

It would be difficult for them to do anything even if there is a trap. These are well trained, veteran fighters of massive number against lightly armored, and under-equipped zealots. I am not saying that it wont work in the short term, but both factions fighting and weakening themselves gives the Lannisters a huge advantage which they would exploit.

Agreed that the Lannisters will swoop upon both after they fight amongst each other and weaken themselves.

 

Things between the religious zealots and the Tyrell soldiers will be more balanced because the fight will be inside the city not in open lands where the superior number and training of soldiers will give them the advantage. Inside the city, they had ample time set up traps around the Sept where the Tyrells superior numbers wont count for much if the Sparrows hold all the fortified strong positions.

Even after the khals are dead, she still stays in the building for minutes until the door is completely consumed by the flames. Since large portions of the roof were starting to fall around the khals even after 5 seconds after she started the fire, she would have been hit as well eventually. That would also make her impervious to physical damage.

And even if someone is immune to fire, he should be bound by other factors, like breathing. So she would have died in less than a minute from smoke inhalation and lack of oxygen. Since she obviously survived in there for minutes, we can safely assume that she doesn’t need to consume oxygen or even breathe, so she can easily survive in vacuum.

Dany=Superwoman confirmed. Now all she needs to do is discover her flying abilities and heat vision. After all, they can’t have braziers all over the place all the time, and Drogon won’t like to be used as a taxi every time she needs a ride.

Jon Snow was dead for a couple days and became alive again with 0 negative effects. And no one batted an eye about that. Compared to that Dany not being hit by falling debris is peanuts. You cant apply physical laws to a show which is based on magic.

Very true! Maybe Dany has a magical force field, activated by fire, which contains air and shields her from debris. I wasn't aware Jon was dead for more than 12 hours, if he was gone for days he'd have started to get pretty ripe, especially since magic was not yet involved.

I think Samus has it nailed. My wife and I have a running joke anytime something happens in a show that doesn't make sense. I'll stop the DVR, back it up, watch it over again, we discuss it... and then I say that I know why it happened that way... "It's in the script".

Well it was definitely more than 12 hrs if not 2 days. He was stabbed at night. Davos finds his body (probably early morning) and barricades himself in a room. Thorne gives them until sundown to surrender. Wildlings arrive and take over. More talk and blah bla. Finally melisandre decides to use her magic on him. So if not 2 days he was dead for at least a day and half. He probably didnt rot because of the low temperature, plus the show ignores such minor things.

 

In the book, I wont be surprised if Melisandre revives him a lot faster than they showed in the show.
