  1. Granted, you are transformed into a tree, but your intellect and desires are limited accordingly. I wish I could win a land war in Russia.
  2. So, Putin went on record saying it must have been "outsiders intending to destabilize the country" and that the assassins had "sacrificed" an ally for that purpose. That's Tywin level propaganda right there.

  6. I was never aware that Muslims were called to apologize for anything they did not personally do. Muslims are a pretty diverse lot, even in the Arab countries which actually are a minority of the Muslim population. Unless you are referring to some pundits and wackos that nobody should pay attention to. Was this a hate crime? Possibly, if the guy had a prior history of anti-Islamic sentiment. Was this murder much different from the gangland or even road rage shootings that happen in my city every day. Sadly, no. Bodies show up every day. As for the news media, they grow more irrelevant every day. Like any other form of entertainment (because that is what they are, no different than the WWE or Jersey Shore), they exist solely to get views from their targeted demographic. If it's the white middle-class, then they focus on a white middle-class narrative. Al Jezeera opened an American branch because there was a noticable gap in coverage. Like any murder victims, I am sad about their loss and hope their loved ones can move on from this tragedy.

  10. For working out, I'd just say pick something you like to do and do it. Doesn't matter if it's weightlifting, running, martial arts, dancing, sports, or parkour. Being on your feet and moving is about 90% of it. If you don't enjoy it, you won't do it. It's a hard enough struggle if you're overweight. Make it as pleasant as possible to start with. Diet is harder because it requires a mindset change. For a lot of people, food is more than just nourishment. It serves a lot of mental functions (stress reliever, emotional trigger, social lubricant) that it isn't well suited for. Try to find something else to meet those mental needs first. Then educate yourself on what food actually does. Just reading about the positive impact of healthy food can really change your attitude towards it. Also, changing weight sucks. Your body won't like it and will fight you most of the way. Exercise first, sleep second, diet third. This will keep you from doing too much at once and minimize stress. You'd be surprised at what exercise & sleep will do for your energy levels and hunger. Do those first and it will make the diet easier.
  11. Just look at Edward Snowden lol, denounced citizen and branded traitor for exposing the truth. Most of that was for leaving the country to a known rival. Granted, he might still have been convicted, but he didn't give the court system a chance, either. If he had really wanted to bring attention to the issue, he would have left for a friendly nation or stayed in the states and let his trial/deportation drudge up media publicity. Would it be a big chance? Yes. But he'd already taken a bigger one by violating his contract with his employer. I'm happy that he blew the whistle. Going to Russia, though, makes him either an idiot or an obvious spy.
  12. I would like to clarify that I don't confine these opinions to Muslims. Some people are just jacked in the head. Their brain chemistry isn't right. No amount of persuasion or civil disobedience will convince a Dahmer, or a Manson, or a McVeigh that they shouldn't hurt people. ISIS is the Muslim variant, but they prey on the same drives and mental disorders. Most of those aren't curable, and those disease "victims" wouldn't want the cure, anyway. In the end, our minds are the detritus of culture, primal urges, and experiences. Free will has little impact on the majority of our actions. Is that bad? Not necessarily. I, for one, don't want to go through my entire life learning how to do everything on my own. If I did, I couldn't drive a car, cook food, or use a computer. I had to be told how to do all of those things. But, it is worth exercising free will over those actions that have a large impact on other people. And nothing is larger than taking away someone's life. Unfortunately, ISIS has looked at human life and determined that it has less value than abstract ideas dreamed up by a man a thousand years ago. That makes them an aberration to be eliminated. The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is a good example of how Muslims can work through the political process to support their beliefs. Falling back on violence is laziness at best and sadism at worst.
  13. I'm against limiting free speech (well, obviously, look at my AA). Free speech is ultimately about being able to question societal norms and practices. If you can't do that, it becomes very easy for negative norms & practices to take root and flourish. This results in a stagnant society or even declining economy, since you can't question business practices. That's why it's usually the worst parts of culture and institutions that demand limits to free speech. Libel and slander are the only occasions that I can think about possibly putting a civil penalty on free speech. But make it a matter for civil courts, not criminal. Ultimately, I'd rather someone open their mouth and confirm their stupidity, than keep it shut and act on it. You can argue against opinions. Actions, though, are rarely clear enough to form an argument against. Did that guy turn you down for the job because you were black? Or because of your resume? If he never tells you, you never know. As for ISIS, well, I believe in extremely late-term abortions, even if the baby is a mullah at about 50 years old. I'm happy if you're nonviolent. Most sane people are in their everyday life. But sheep cannot fight off wolves. That's why you need sheepdogs, since wolves will prey on the sheep no matter how much they bleat. The Kurds and Christians in N. Iraq appreciate our help. So do the Sunnis, although they refuse to fight for themselves.
  14. Just what this world needs, another political party. You young'uns should sit down, shut up, and vote for the dominant party. Also, I feel that the fundamentals of Samus Corp have not been addressed. Even if it were around, I would list it as a strong sell, due to its investments in certain unstable nations.

  22. Yeah, different society, different thought processes I guess This Plus the fact that somehow the weapon lobbyist have found a way to connect the 'American' way of thinking towards freedom with the ownership and legalization of firearms. If those were photos of weed and you'd replace the word 'firearm' or 'gun' with marihuana, the whole discussion would be backwards. lol good point. Doesn't Switzerland issue every male between 20 & 30 an assault rifle? Granted, they get militia training as well, but you don't exactly hear about a lot of gun violence in Switzerland. Also, the NY shooter was already a felon, who should not have been sold a gun by federal law. Yet he found one, anyway.

  24. A couple cops get killed like that every couple of years in America, whether due to narcos or crazy people. If we can't even keep drugs out of America, banning guns won't keep them out either. Given American culture, you'll just have a replay of the Prohibition era, with gangsters making tons of money selling guns to normally law-abiding people. At least half the people I know would keep or buy illegal guns if they had no other choice. Yeah, gun culture is just that ingrained here. I remember the Economist posting a chart showing that there were at least 3 guns for every person in the U.S. That is not going to go away. If anything, the U.S. murder rate is declining despite being awash in guns. I credit video games for that (people spend less time getting drunk, high, or in social situations where they'll get angry), and believe the best thing you could do for crime is distribute game systems to poor families. Religion is a decent opiate for the masses, but games work better.
