TMCWPTI #2 - Game Thread

Godfather Tony opened his eyes and took a deep breath, only to find it hindered by a lack of air and sucking a plastic bag into his mouth. Flailing, his arms reached just above his face and found a zip. A little working pulled it down, and this time, he was able to breathe in peace.

He sat up to find that he had been put into a body bag after his exploits at the supermarket.

How odd. He was most definitely alive.

After being awoken from what had almost been certain death, his first thought went not to food, or air, or perhaps somewhere to run away from the police and lie down for a while with a Whisky, but to his next plan.

He got up and ran away from the pool, and down the high street. He saw one building and his eyes narrowed.

"Yes...."

The IRONTown Supermarket had had another busy day, but now things were at last calming down. Employees were grumpily cleaning the shop and picking up fallen goods, whilst checking their watches to see when they could run to clock off for the day. A few customers remained, hurriedly trying to pick up all the shopping they could before the market closed.

It was to this end that Tony and some associates walked nonchalantly into the supermarket, before triggering the alarms which brought down the emergency shutters in the supermarket that had been installed for no purpose other than that they were quite cheap.

But they would serve their purpose. The good people of IRONTown would once again have to try and outwit the mafia who wanted to kill them....

Why on earth would the mafia have a janitor?

If you read the last mafia game setup. There was a mafia janitor role. The janitor would cover up the identity of the person killed at night.

d3mon says that it might be "flavor" but he wouldn't be surprised if he really was a janitor.

So I'm asking what he means by that.

I am suggesting that TC is the mafia janitor.

but why? for all we know there may not even be a janitor in the game. hence why i think you are scum and made a mistake.

Since, this is part 2 of TWCWPTI... I would expect a number of roles to be similar. I might be wrong but thats the assumption that I am currently working with.

I am willing to listen to what TC has to say but would prefer if he said something other than "This is my first time".

Just like you, I think somebody made a mistake, but in my opinion that player is TC.

Good discussion for day 1 but I don't think making a joke about cleaning being a scum tell but I don't find it suspicious for d3mon to call him on it though. For Day 1 you have to go with what you got however.

Be careful about trying to guess the meta-game TOO much; trying to figure out Mole's organization of the other game led to EM getting lynched.

I'm not agreeing with your accusation of TC at the moment, but I will note that last game Tactical Evil Dan played the "It's my first time" card - and he was scum. My first game two games ago I played the "It's my first time" card to preemptively deter any suspicion, because I was scum. Playing up one's newbie status can be the perfect cover and excuse for actions that would otherwise be considered suspicious.

My advice to TC: we're not anti-newbie by any means. We'll gladly answer questions about how the game works, etc, and I encourage you to ask them if anything is unclear - or alternately PM mole privately. But this is a game about paranoia, analysis and accusation where every little thing one does is suspect - every statement can be picked apart for nuance. This is the reason that editing posts is not allowed: you cannot go back and fix a post that reveals something you didn't intend, or change your story after the fact. If you're new, you're new: but don't expect to be above suspicion because of it, or use it as an excuse.

echoing what Preston said and with a bit more on top:

every game is different. doesn't matter if they have the same name or include 1 or 2 of the same roles, there are still going to be different roles involved.

additionally, it's not just what you said but the way you worded it. there is a difference between someone being "the janitor" and someone being "a janitor". in the first case, you are implying that there is a janitor in the game. in the second, there may or may not be a janitor in the game. the first implys having extra knowledge that players dont normally have, and furthermore that only mafia could have at this stage of the game. thus, you are mafia.

I generally prefer not to lynch newbies on D1 so as to not dissuade them from the game. But all bets are off on D2.

What good is that? Survivors would obviously notice someone to be missing if a person is killed...?

I got to say, the argument by D3mon that this is part two, and hence it would be likely that roles are (partially) similar sounds plausible.

Too bad I didn't read part 1 :s

Anyhow,

my list of suspects is rising.

The town would know a person has died but not his role (power role, vanilla, or mafia) if the mafia janitor used his abilities. The usefulness of the role is debateable.

I think there will be variations in the roles.

I'm guessing a vigilante-type will be the butcher.

I think with so many newbies, the game will more simplified with the roles. So I expect a cop, doc, vanilla townies, and mafia.

it's very useful. if my understanding of the role is correct, it's used during the day. meaning the town doesnt get the result of the lynch.

That's what I would think too, keeping the town from knowing the role of lynched character would be very useful for the mafia; the town would not know who exactly they have lynched and it would not always mean they are trying to cover up the death of one of their own.
