Any RL DJs around?
I would have never guessed you were so much into music. Hodor from Game of Thrones is a DJ... it's his real job.

Potential work conflict
This all sounds like a huge failure of your employer. Their refusal to lead, and more than likely to cover their ass, they are not being straight with any of you. It sounds like you have the workplace politics under control, but that should never be an issue for you. Your job should be to do your job, and that should never include bad blood between your coworkers. I'm sure this will all work out in your favor... one way or another... you're the Icewolf, and the Icewolf always wins.

Happy birthday Blade 619 / Samus
All four of my kids are older than you guys. Happy Birthday to both of you. You guys make this a much better place. If you guys make it to Las Vegas I can buy you a drink... and it would be legal for Samus

Potential work conflict
I don't know what you do or who you work for, but I would say the situation is out of your control. The boss has the whole thing figured out already, and the only thing you can do is ask him. I don't know where you live, but if it's the U.S. you will have about 11 million more people in the pool looking at your job. Good luck, I know from your contributions here, you are a valuable employee.

US Elections 2014
Hey emudevelopment, Welcome to the conversation. You are the first person I have read anything from in a long time that understands why our government is set up the way it is. Laws were never intended to be easy to pass. It was supposed to be extremely hard. Whenever a law is passed it always has something to do with taking away, or limiting, someone's liberty. It's encouraging to find that this is not completely lost in our current world of instant gratification, entitlements, and the stupidity of those that believe there is a government fix to every inconvenience. On current events, Obama appears to not be happy with the amount of damage he has caused so far. He intends tonight to tear apart whatever we have remaining of our civility. This speech tonight about his entirely illegal executive order, combined with the overblown Grand Jury decision that will most obviously come out of Ferguson, could very well begin a slide into widespread violence. Whatever you believe... say a prayer for the coming weeks. I have never seen a President that hates the United States... until now.

Star Wars comes to the Persian Gulf
Thanks for that Foxy... I saw the rail gun a while back and it's fierce, and much more effective than the laser in poor weather. I'm pretty sure that China has stolen that too since the only investment they have to make is in cyber-crime. It would be great if the U.S. and China were able to pool resources for the good of mankind... but they would have to start treating mankind like they have worth first.

Star Wars comes to the Persian Gulf
China doesn't invent anything... they steal it from us.

U.S. Navy Deploys Its First Laser Weapon in the Persian Gulf This is real. My nation wants the LAWS wonder. 10 mile range at the speed of light, unlimited firepower, and costs 1 dollar per shot. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-11-14/u-s-navy-deploys-its-first-laser-weapon-in-the-persian-gulf.html American Exceptionalism?

US Elections 2014
The Patriot Act has some issues. I don't believe that the Federal Government has any business in many places that it has firmly set up house... but one job they do have is keeping us safe. This is a huge responsibility in today's world, and enforcing that law breaks other laws, and that's the rub. Whenever there is a required time to suspend enforcing a law for the common good and security of the country, it should have an absolute end date. If you want it back... start over and do it again. I live in Nevada and it's the opposite. New car dealerships cannot open on Sundays. It's local law to give the used car dealerships a chance... I guess they had a hard time compeating. Like I said it's a local law and I have no problem with it. If you don't like it you can move. I feel that way about everything. Federal minimum wage laws are rediculous and it's only a Democrat talking point to touch on the human condition called "greed". Living conditions in Montana are much different than California. They all have their own laws and they know their situation much better than Nancy Pelosi does in San Francisco... or Washington DC. This is a rich idea... how about creating an atmosphere to bring the cost of living down? Much better than getting on the treadmill we've been on with wages trying to pay for the ever higher costs that government itself forces ever higher. It's insanity. That pesky Constitution. Democrats have been trying to get around, or dissolve it, for decades. It gets in their way of "progress". Gets in their way so much that they fear it. You see, they want to force their ideals on everyone... and they can't do that with the 10th and 2nd amendments standing in their way. So every time a crazy guy shoots up a school or a theatre... we have to take away those guns. They have to take away those guns because if they ever make ground on their quest to destroy the Constitution... that 10th amendment kicks in and that 2nd amendment blows their head off. That's why the founding fathers gave us the Constitution. "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." - Thomas Jefferson

US Elections 2014
Thank you Niels for your very thoughtful analysis of this discussion. I am an avid Nate Silver reader as well... he may be a leftie but he's a brilliant an honest leftie. The fundamental differences between Republicans and Democrats are simple. Republicans for the most part are traditionalists at their core. Democrats have this need to change things, and more often than not these days they try to force these changes that are not just about moving from horses to cars. They are changes that attack their very lives... how they raise and teach their children, what job they work, what their preacher can talk about, what they can use to defend themselves, what they eat, how much of their money can they keep, what they have to buy with that money, what they can't buy with that money... I can go on and on... and it's nothing that has anyting to do with our Constitutional rights to live in freedom. Every time Democrats do something to make Republicans live the way they dictate... it's a step closer to destruction. It's really to a breaking point and we have to do some small, really pointless things to get most of the good and well meaning Democrats to see that the Socialists are trying to take their freedom. If you allow the government to control your life, you will no longer be living. The marijuana issue can easily be taken care of. The way things are now, it's headed for a crash. There are Federal laws on the books that criminalize marijuana in many ways. There are states that are passing laws to allow use and sale, and the Federal laws are not being enforced. All you need is an Attorney General that decides to enforce the law... and they all get shut down and most can go to the Federal Penn. Republicans are big "states rights" people... and repealing a Federal law is right up their alley. Let the states decide what they want to do, and it will sell with Republicans. Their are many that still believe marijuana is a dangerous, gateway drug. They don't understand that when someone gets baked the last thing they want to do is drive around and beat people up. I didn't marry my wife for the legal benefits of being married... so why is the legal parts of marriage causing so much grief? If you make laws forcing churches to marry gays, the churches will stop marrying anyone. Is that what Democrats really want? Churches should be able to continue marrying anyone they want... and if you want the law to recognize a relationship, you file union papers with the state. People can go have all the rituals they want and the law has nothing to do with it. Everyone's happy. If we as Republicans, can do some stupid little things like this... maybe the Socialists can't make us look like assholes.

US Elections 2014
You are asking me what I would do if I were in charge. I am not, and I am not one that is in the mood for compromise since the absolute disreguard for any input on what was done during the '09-'10 Congress... but I will give you a few opinions. Drop the corporate tax rate immediately... there is 2 trillion dollars being held offshore that needs to be repatriated here... they won't bring the money in until it will not be stolen by a hostile government. Abolish the IRS... it has become a weapon for whoever is in charge against the opposition party. I don't want this to happen to anyone ever again. Eliminate the income tax and implement the Fair-Tax. Money should be taxed when it's spent... not when it's earned. Taxes will be paid every day by just buying stuff rather than before April 15th. No deductions or loopholes. Even prostitutes and drug dealers will have to pay. Everyone pays their fair share and don't give me that crap about the rich not paying their fair share... rich people buy much more stuff. Investments would skyrocket and everyone wins. Repeal the Federal laws that criminalize marajuana. This way the states can deal with this as they see fit and they are not openly breaking the law as they are dealing with it. It's happening already and they won't stop it, so open the door and let it play out. I don't smoke that shit myself but I know many that do... and none of them are criminals. Remove marriage from the law. Some idiots back in the day made a huge mistake by tying marriage to the law. It has just become a big war against the church. Everyone should file civil union papers with their state. Done deal. Social Security is a scam. Give the money back to the people in a private retirement account that is there when they retire or when they reach the age of 65-70. If they pass away the account transfers to their beneficiary. States can actually compeat for residency with who has the most attractive retirement plans. I ask you... what would be better? Your own account full of cash from compounded interest over decades amounting to millions? or a few hundred dollars a month until you die? The government has been ripping you off all your life. Some idiot named Jimmy Carter decided education needed it's own Federal agency. Since then we have millions of dumber children and millions of lousey teachers after spending hundreds of billions of dollars more than before when we had smarter kids. This has not worked and should be reverted back to the states. None the less, you guys get the drift... I'm a small government conservative.

US Elections 2014
I clearly do. Republican takeover of the House and Senate in reaction to the utter failure of Hillarycare. The 90's were not subject to the elevation of Bill Clinton to god statis... he won the Presidency with only 43% of the vote in '92. The Supreme Court will hear the case on the illegal subsidies in the ACA. Obamacare will soon be dead on the vine. About time.

Sure it was... poor Obama and his uphill battles. The only uphill battle Obama has is which wedge will get him up on the green.

US Elections 2014
Well okay... I have so many guns drawn at me right now, and I really hate writing long posts so I'll just wing it. Rhizo Sir, I've been a creature of politics for a very long time and I know liberal speak when I hear it. It's the same snotty attitude from "progressive" University Professors that indoctrinate our children from their lofty, tax-payer funded, tenured, bastions of "I know better about the world and how you must live your life". They ingnore fly over country, and discount the worth of anyone with a southern accent as... some kind of intellectual defect. They call conservatives racist, flat earthers, and knuckle-draggers. So really my reply to LE was very kind, and would have come from a much darker part of me if I did not respect him so much. We do hate socialists. We do hate communists. We also hate a monarchy. My English cousins in the UK know this first hand. We're not embarrassed about it... and "general" does not mean "absolute". I have never in all my life seen my country as divided as it is now. This is the product of Socialists in control of Congress and the Presidency for just two years. Can you imagine what it would be like if Republicans failed to take control of the House in 2010?

US Elections 2014
My wife just sent me this joke... hysterical An Italian doctor says: "In Italy, medicine is so advanced that we cut off a man's testicles, put them on another man, and in 6 weeks, he is looking for work". "The Dutch doctor says: "That's nothing, in Holland we take part of a brain, put it in another man, and in 4 weeks he is looking for work". "The Canadian doctor says: "Gentlemen, we take half a heart from a man, put it in another mans chest, and in 2 weeks he is looking for work". "The American doctor laughs: "You all are behind us. Six years ago, we took a man with no brains, no heart, and no balls and made him President. Now, the whole country is looking for work!"

US Elections 2014
Good morning gang Rafay: The United States is a Constitutional Republic, and it has been since it's inception. A Democracy is "majority rules", and the founding fathers in their grand wisdom, knew very well that a Democracy was 51% of the people stomping on the rights of the other 49%. It's our Constitution that sets us apart, and makes the U.S. the greatest country ever. Our Constitution is unique because it is not a set of articles that grant power to the government... it's a set of articles that limit the power of government. "Congress shall pass no law..." are the primary words throughout. Progressives for over 100 years have been attempting to break that document, and that is what makes the founding fathers roll. It amazes me that so many want to say that an election where Democrats got absolutely routed just doesn't count because more people voted for Republicans. Turnout is always a factor in every election and Democrats have been bragging about their "ground game" since they elevated Obama to god statis. Now that everyone knows he can't walk on water, it's back to "we don't give a shit". Fin Baby: Hillary is a Progressive... which means she's a closet Socialist. So is Warren and O'Malley. Bernie Sanders is the only one on your list that is openly, and quite proudly, a Socialist. Anytime you steal money from someone that earns it and give it to someone that doesn't... it's wrong and it's just theft. Doesn't matter how you disguise it.

US Elections 2014
TW brought up Mike Huckabee, one that I had not thought would seriously consider another run. He passed on 2012, and it really upset alot of people. I saw him tonight on O'Reilly, and it looks like he may very well run. If he does... it's a game changer. He is well liked in Republican circles, far and wide. He has cross-over appeal, he's good with the bible thumpers, and he kicks Hillary all over the map on personality. I can get solidly behind his campaign.
-
US Elections 2014
Mike would be awesome. He's having such a good time since he moved to the private sector that it would be a hard choice. He's very social conservative, but not as hard line as Rick Santorum. I did forget to mention someone that I would support if he took the dive and changed party... Joe Manchin of West Virginia. He's a moderate Republican at heart, but he grew up in old school Democrat West Virginia. The party left him years ago.

US Elections 2014
Where? It was not a national election. It was all state and local, so more here and less there if you know what I mean. Are you making up an excuse as to why Democrats got destroyed? "If only more people came out to vote"? I heard the same rambling press conference, and Obama needs to understand that people didn't come out and vote for Democrats because they were not interested in saving him. Plain and simple, everyone knew, and nobody cared. Nationally Obama is finished and now he has to choose if he wants to make it worse... my guess is yes.

US Elections 2014
I think Jeb will run, and if Jeb runs I don't think Mitt will. Paul Ryan is a legislator and an animal of the House... if Scott Walker runs, which I think he will... Ryan will not run. I like Rand Paul alot. He has a problem... if he runs he has to give up his Senate seat. I think he will run, but he'll have trouble. He has a strong Libertarian streak and many of the base are afraid of pulling the plug on influence of the world stage. Chris Cristie should have run in 2012 when we needed him. I think his time has passed and he'll be easily painted as a bully. Ted Cruz is too Tea Party for the general... he's a lawyer and can't shake that "win at all cost" attitude, but I love his conviction. Rick Perry will run again but will have trouble shaking off his horrible performance in 2012 debates. Governors make the best Presidents, so they always have an advantage with Republicans. Perry should not have run in 2012. Rick Santorum will run again but that's a loser from the gun... his entire platform is social conservative and that can't win anymore. Ben Carson will test the water, but he has no political or governing experience and the guys above, will kill him with it. Watch out for my Governor here in Nevada... Brian Sandoval won re-election last night with 71% of the vote. A former Federal Judge, he is hispanic, very likeable, brilliant, and a great Republican. He would be a good President... but unknown so far.
