TMCWPTI #1 - Game Thread

The Mafia Choose Weird Places to Invade - #1

The IRONTown Baths was quite a popular attraction for families and the rest of the inhabitants of the town to relax in the pool or to get some exercise in. Right now, however, it was fairly quiet. The pool had some die-hard swimmers and stubborn children left in, but there were plenty of staff around too.

That was the time Godfather Tony chose to invade. Shortly after the first shots were fired, sirens went off, and shutters fell, cutting off the pool from the outside world.

Now, the innocent people of IRONTown had to find out who the mafia were, and make sure they didn't live to invade somewhere else slightly strange......

STILL ALIVE: (Italics - Confirmed)

Kaziocore

CanucksDynasty

Preston

Tactical Evil Dan

DROWNED IN THE POOL:

Nerau, Whistle-Blowing Lifeguard (One-Use Roleblocker), killed Night One.

Kasabian, Mafia Goon, lynched Day Two.

Chaoshawk, Pool Cleaner (One-Use Vigilante), Killed Night Two.

Electric Mango, Insomniac, lynched Day Three.

KevinH, Friendly Neighbour, killed Night Three.

AKCPLUTO, One-Use Mafia Janitor, lynched Day Four.

ccabal86, Curious Child, killed Night Four.

Please elaborate.

What are your thoughts?

I don't see any possible interpretation other than either:

1) ccabal is lying, and badly

2) mole made some kind of mistake -- either in the design of the role or in the execution

In my mind these possibilities are mutually exclusive, so I'm either watching a train wreck or a gigantic frustrating waste of time.

Also, for the record, Player X has not attempted to contact me.

If the MOD doesn't post something that would confirm ccabal's claim then I would be inclined to believe you that ccabal is lying.

I would assume that players wouldn't lie about communication from me.

Perhaps I should make that another rule, hm?

I wanted to impact the game as little as possible, hence the PM rather than public announcement.

Yes, a mistake was made N1. But I've worked around it and ccabal's role has been modified to that effect. I can't confirm his role nor whether whatever it is is pro-town or pro-mafia. I'll leave you to discuss that amongst yourselves.

Indeed I am.

Well, mole having made a mistake on night 1 is one of the possibilities I floated - though at the time I hadn't thought it was likely.

I understand that the mod usually never interacts with the game thread during the day other than to prod/votecount/post lynch results, but if a mistake WAS made on night 1 responses then we need to know that since it has influenced past votes. The only question is whether mole will post in the thread here, or whether he will respond to CD only to correct the security guard result. Given how much has been based on that possibly erroneous data, I think it is appropriate for mole to confirm the correction publicly to offset the public impact of the past false result.

I'm going to echo ccabal's request, with additional specificity so that we dont get an abstract answer open to interpretation.

MOD: Can you please confirm that a mistake was made in reporting night 1 movements and that ccabal should have been shown as moving?

No. I can confirm what I have said already, read above.

OK...so a mistake was made and work-around was achieved.

Hmm...that being the case...I think ccabal86 would be telling the truth that he is townie.

So.................let's get on with lynching EM.

Heh, mole's and CD's posts happened while I was posting, rendering my mod question moot.

I need to head out for a few hours, but when I come back I'll respond to this in more detail.

In the short term:

1. ccabal should have been shown as moving on night 1, explaining his expectation that he was Player X and CD would back him.

2. that CD did NOT see ccabal moving, and bringing this up has prompted a mod-correction where he SHOULD have been seen as moving, seems to solidify to me that CD's report on movements is genuine.

3. As mole states, that ccabal's nightly movement has been vetted does NOT automatically clear him of being scum making an excuse for movement.

4. We still do not know who PlayerX is.

Additional notes regarding 'PlayerX':

a) CD stated PlayerX mod-commed his towniness to him on night 1. Therefore this is either an ability PlayerX possesses or an aspect of CD's role.

B) If this is an aspect of CD's ability - possibly not a stated one, similar to a paranoid/trusting cop - then PlayerX's innocence cannot be assumed.

c) If PlayerX has a "friendly neighbor"-esque ability, the question then becomes if it is a one-shot ability like everyone else's, or a multi-shot ability.

d) If PlayerX's ability is one-shot, using it on night 1 before they have any real idea about who is likely town is/was risky; how often do people blow their one-shot non-investigative abilities like that on the first night?

f) If PlayerX's ability is multi-shot, who else have they communicated with?

If b is the case, PlayerX is still a suspect. However I dont know if that's likely.

If d is the case, PlayerX used their ability very early on an unproven target - though to be fair, CD is an experienced player and a good person to have on your side when defending your towniness - if he's not scum, at least. We haven't PlayerX killed yet anyway.

If e is true, PlayerX should be able to specify a list of people they have communicated with who can back up their claim.

I'll be back later tonight.

With 8 alive, 5 is needed to lynch.

Edited by molestargazer

Back. Nothing's been written since my last post other than a votecount by CD, so there's not much else for me to comment on.

I did think of another question; if CD stated PersonX used a role to claim activity, why would ccabal think it was him if his role doesnt anything ability like that?

Also: even if ccabal forgot specifics of his role and needed to be reminded, he DID provide a two-word role title that sounds plausible.

EM openly questioned ccabal's role paraphrasing including a description of chaos/screaming etc. My role PM included a story background about my role's reaction to mafia invading the pool - so I could see something similar in ccabal's role. I dont know if this supports or weakens EM's position.

Regardless; we have one and a half days left until this 'day' ends. I've already listed in a previous post why I'm thinking of voting for EM based on the current situation, and right now ccabal is looking... fairly safe. If he genuinely moves, then that reduces the likelihood that another role would ALSO always move - and moreover always move and NOTHING ELSE, since ccabal's supposed role at least has an upside to it. We don't have many/any other options, and while I still have my doubts about EM... we need to pick someone. Let's see where the dice fall.

Vote: Electric Mango

I'd also like to reiterate my call for pre-lynch thoughts from people (especially you CD) about what we will think if EM is scum and if he isnt scum. Anyone could die tonight, so we need our thoughts out there now.

Heh... and if I die? I'll be amused at being proven town... and at eating up the mafia's night kill.

-Preston

Bleh, EM posted while I posted. I seem to be having bad luck with that today.

As I just said in the above post, I've already thought about this. Ccabal's coming out gave us another target to focus on... but with mole's error correction ccabal's position seems a lot better now.

I also noted with interest your response to his paraphrasing about there being screaming/etc in his role PM, per my post above.

For completeness' sake (especially since it got pushed away by ccabal's derailing us all), here's the list I posted earlier for my reasons for voting you:

All else being equal, at present I am thinking I'll vote for EM.

I maintain his 'insomniac' role is plausible in light of my own negative role, but at this point there is a lot in favor of lynching him - either due to his guilt or to test ccabal/CD/roles in general during this game.

1. If purely a negative role (interferes with investigation) with no corresponding upside, why wasnt it claimed on day 1.

2. If it implied the existance of a cop, it could have been mentioned on day 1 without compromising the identity of any townies and greatly affected the no-lynch talk

3. Manner/timing of the claim in response to attack

4. Ccabal's inexplicable roleclaim pits the two of you against each other, so ONE of you needs to be tested.

5. If EM's claim IS 100% accurate... then all we would be losing is a townie with no beneficial role.

We need to think about the implications of both cases prior to this lynch: What would follow if EM is scum, and what would follow if EM is town. I want to hear both sides of this from people - CD of course, but others as well.

If you want to respond to any of these, feel free.

-Preston

Well, I hope this chain of events proves the contingencycy of my earlier train of thought. My confidence that CD could confirm my townieness should all but confirm that I'm pro-town. Just think about it: Based on my role PM I reasonably thought I was Player X.

I feel pretty good about lynching EM. Since I'm supposed to be the wandering guy, having an other similar role would depower the town a bit too much, and would be redundant anyway.

I might do a post count and start voting for inactives.

Anyway I am more inclined to believe that EM is mafia.

...

With no more logical explanation that can be thought of, EM could only say "Well just have to wait and see what happens next then."

then possibly to get more info on who to nk next, asked who Player X is. This is very suspicious.

Vote: Kaziocore

Maybe Electric Mango has me fooled, but I'm not going to vote for him. I think Kaziocore made a weak argument and might be trying to get a townie lynched.

Vote: Electric Mango

EM is looks like the most obvious selection, because of:

  • Movement
  • ccabbal looking cleaner by the minute
  • No other clear selections at the moment

For the record, I don't think it's okay to lynch EM simply because of a lack of useful power role. One fewer townie is one step closer to a loss.

Well, I hope this chain of events proves the contingencycy of my earlier train of thought. My confidence that CD could confirm my townieness should all but confirm that I'm pro-town. Just think about it: Based on my role PM I reasonably thought I was Player X.

Except that your role pm says nothing about mod-messaging to someone that you're town, so I'm still curious how you thought that aspect of Player X was you.

I feel pretty good about lynching EM. Since I'm supposed to be the wandering guy, having an other similar role would depower the town a bit too much, and would be redundant anyway.

I dont feel good about it, frankly - I just dont think we have enough against another target at present. EM's "Meh" post doesnt sound like an uncovered mafia either, though that's probably the intent.

Question: If we DONT have a majority against someone by March 6th, what happens?

CD has REALLY kept pinning that target on EM ever since the first night. We got him to swap to Kasabian, but now he's back on EM - even after the 'limited number of roles' premise that he used to narrow the search down was cut short.

... Wouldnt it be a hoot if the MAFIA had the security guard this game, and the 'wandering normal townies' were there to distract THEM? Dammit, now my mind is spinning with possibilities.

@KevinH: Can you describe your attack on Kaziocore a little more? The timing is... interesting, but if it's more than just a distancing vote from the majority I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I'll give you some time to respond too kevinh; let someone else be the final vote against EM if they want.

Unvote

-Preston

Except that your role pm says nothing about mod-messaging to someone that you're town, so I'm still curious how you thought that aspect of Player X was you.

Yes, my PM doesn't, but we didn't know anything about how CD's role operates. It could very well be something like: "You see 3 players moving, Player X is town, you don't know anything else about the other two."

Even after CD denounced this, claiming he saw some "ability" in action, it could have very well been me performing some action unknown even to me. Keep in mind that my role PM is very vague, I have no idea how exactly I "learn things", it could show up as me following/investigating a random player, or through some other action.

I think Rule #8 applies cuz EM reached the 5 votes necessary for a lynch.

I think I may the next to be nightkilled.

So given that no one has come forth and said they received some indication who Player X is...I'll share this info.

Player X is KevinH.

I think Rule #8 applies cuz EM reached the 5 votes necessary for a lynch.

Well, hopefully KevinH can respond before mole closes the thread then - even though at present EM only has 4 votes. Of course if someone else wants to finish him, they're welcome to do so. If nothing else happens, when the day ends on 3/6 EM will get lynched anyway.

I hope EM does prove scum so that we can focus on finding the last, but I have this nagging doubt that he won't... I wish there was a clearer alternative.

I think I may the next to be nightkilled.

Heh. Or they might get tired of me throwing ideas around and second guessing everything...

So given that no one has come forth and said they received some indication who Player X is...I'll share this info.

Player X is KevinH.

KevinH never really ranked all that high on my suspect list, so I guess that makes sense. Anything to say about your role/confirmation kevin?

Vote: Kaziocore

Maybe Electric Mango has me fooled, but I'm not going to vote for him. I think Kaziocore made a weak argument and might be trying to get a townie lynched.

Of course my reason is not only that. You can't possibly ignore

all the other contributions people gave on d2 and d3 and it would

sound redundant if I just reiterated them.

It's better than AKCPLUTO though.

I think Rule #8 applies cuz EM reached the 5 votes necessary for a lynch.

I think I may the next to be nightkilled.

Player X is KevinH.

Well I was also supposed to hide the fact that KevinH is pro-town.

I became definitely aware last night even though the role doesn't say

I could investigate people.

@KevinH: Can you describe your attack on Kaziocore a little more? The timing is... interesting, but if it's more than just a distancing vote from the majority I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I thought Kaziocore was a townie until I had him notified that I am a townie and then he was trying to push the Player X disclosure.

I thought that if I got night-killed, then maybe my vote on him might be a hint that I thought him suspicious.

Now that I'm disclosed, I don't think I'll be a prime target since the scum will try for other power roles.

I don't have any other reason to suspect Kaziocore. In fact, I trusted him with the truth of my townieness!

Also interesting to note is that CD saw me "move" even though all I did was have him notified. That's another reason why I am not so sure that EM is scum.

To be fair to CD in this case, I believe 'movement' extends to any active night action and some passive roles that always show up as moving. It sounds like your 'friendly neighbor'-esque role fits the profile.

Still - you raise an interesting point about kaziocore that DOES sound suspicious. I may have to go back over his posts later and see if there's anything there worth looking into further.

MOD: Can we get a vote count? Is EM lynched or not? I don't see a rule that says once a player has been lynched that a person cannot unvote.
