The Dead Zone Mafia, Mafia Wins

The guests sit down to dinner. They had each won an essay writing contest sponsored by Horror writer Stephen King. They had to explain which character from the television show The Dead Zone was there favorite and why. There had been tens of thousands of entries and only one entry was picked for each character.

Here you are now one of the chosen few, sitting down to dinner with Stephen King himself at the welcoming party he is throwing at his Maine estate for the winners before the start of the grand prize, a Dead Zone themed weekend that will be attended by the actors who played your favorite characters.

Dinner is over and you all go off to bed, after all tomorrow is going to be a big day. There was a major storm during the night and you hardly slept at all between the thunder and anticipation. You head on down to the dining room for breakfast.

Good morning everyone, I hope you had a good night’s sleep. I regret to inform you that the bridge is out; it seems it was swept away in
the storm. Sadly this means that the cast will not be able to get here. The lights suddenly go out and there is a loud roar of thunder and a bolt of lightning illuminates the room. The lights quickly come back on but you decide it’s better to be safe and hand out flashlights to all the guests only something is wrong. As you give the last of the guests a flashlight you realize there isn’t one left for you. “This is strange, there were only supposed to be the x of you and I had enough flashlights for myself and each of you. It appears someone has crashed the party.” Before Mr. King can elaborate the lights go out again, only this time they stay out for several minutes. When the lights come back on you see Mr. King covered in blood, dead from multiple stab wounds. There is a note written in almost illegible writing.

“Welcome to The Dead Zone. By now you have probably begun to notice that things are not quite right. No matter for worry, I simply drugged last night’s meal. I’m sorry I had to kill Mr. King but he said I was not important enough for the contest, so nobody wrote letters for me. It’s time to play a little game, were going to see just how well you know your favorite characters. You have to figure out who I am before I kill all of you. The lights are set to go out again in 1 hours’ time, at which point I will kill again. We will keep playing this little game until you are all dead, good luck.”

Panic starts to spread until Reverend Purdy stands up and calls for calm. Wait Reverend Purdy, but he’s a fictional character. He seems to be making sense so you decide to go with it. The group all agrees with his plan, you will work together to find the killer before time runs out. People start making wild accusations about each other before Greg Stillson calls for quite; at this point fictional characters are the least of your concern. He suggests that we vote on whom to kill, surprisingly Johnny agrees with him.

All I know is the role that was given me.  I'm a vigilante and can choose to kill every night (I didn't the first night).

Let's summarize what we know if all claims are true:

  • iSocialism - Sheriff Anna Turner – Jailor
  • Electric Mango - Reverend Eugene ‘Gene’ Purdy: – Reverend – Town (miller)
  • Killgor - Dr. Janet Gibson – Doctor – Town (night 1 protected iSocialism)
  • James Dahl (Ogaden) - name? - Watcher - (night 1 saw Kaziocore and Killgor at iSocialism's room)
  • Kaziocore - Dana Bright - Watcher - (night 1 saw Ogaden and Killgor at iSocialism's room)
  • KevinH - Christopher Way - Vigilante (night 1 did nothing)
  • Iron Helix (night 1 was jailed)

I don't know the show and think Iron Helix's input is very valuable.
But he's totally wrong about me.

Meanwhile, Zacch pops in and votes for Killgor, who is already dead. Is that good townie play?

Well I came forth before iSocialism did.  I was jailed.  How in the world does that mean that iSocialism can say that he did it?  That would mean that the real jailer would instantly pick up on him being scum.  Also, if you're going to try and weasel out of that by saying there may be two jailers, you'd first have to try and come up with the name of the second jailer character and if you think Walt is the second jailer then explain why there's a miller role in play.

You don't know for sure who jailed you. If iSocialism had said he jailed you before you came forth, it would be convincing proof that he is indeed the jailor. As it stands, all we know is that somebody jailed you and really anybody could claim that they did it.

In the grand scheme of things, I believe iSocialism is the jailor and that he had to role-claim to avoid a lynch (a predicament I well understand!). The proof just would have been more substantial if he named you first.

Zacch, meanwhile, is doing nothing for the town and could just as easily be scum.

Let me emphasize it the other way:

Zacch, meanwhile, is doing nothing for the town and could just as easily be scum.

I think most readers can understand the implied "as a townie".

Isn't it a scum-tell to take things out of context?

If anyone else wants to claim they jailed me, I'm all ears.  Notable differences between his role claim and yours... 1. The character/role was believable and 2. someone was jailed.

K.  Well if someone wants to bet on me being scum, I've opened that door for them.

The convenience of this reeks.

You've been defending iSoc saying that he shouldn't reveal who he targeted last night, which can only help the scum, and now you come out and claim it was you all along. You didn't let him claim it was you and confirm it, like we talked about. You offered that information now, after saying that we shouldn't for so long even through clear arguments that we should have him tell us.

The fact that you offered that information instead of iSoc can be taken 1 of several different ways, namely, that you either finally saw that we were right and relented and divulged the information even though we said that iSoc should be the one to say who he targeted, or, that you and iSoc are mafia, and you saw that I wasn't going to let this slip by so you stepped in even further and threw all your eggs in one basket to try to save iSoc today..... Interesting..... Another interpretation would be that iSoc is the jailer, and that you are mafia trying to gain his trust and through him the trust of the town by saving him, which would also guarantee no more jailings.....

An interesting move you have made Helix, and the reason's behind it aren't clear, but the reason's for doing this lean more towards if you were scum.

Ever wonder why I was defending him so vehemently?  I explained because that's going to help the mafia use their power roles more effectively.  Moreover it put an even bigger target on my back and his.  Of course I was going to try to avoid that.

1. I still think it wasn't the best idea.  The scum are likely going to use their power roles more effectively because of it.  It also hasn't changed the proposed purposed of the reveal (helping to confirm iSoc is the jailer/town) as evidenced by your posting this.  I did it because I previously wanted to avoid having to do posts like this because it's just derailing things imo.

2. You never said that the target shouldn't reveal himself.  Your requests that iSoc at best implied that.  Your first post of the day was also this:

So if Isoc is the jailer, then who did he target last night?

That seems to be asking the target to come out.  If you had wanted just iSoc to confirm, you should have said "who did you target last night, iSocialism?"

3. If iSoc and I are both mafia, then whoever plays Johnny Smith or Walt Bannerman or any other investigative role can get a 2-for-1 deal now.  A serial killer can also peg one of us and accomplish the same thing.  Sounds like a dumb move for mafia to make.

4. You still can't explain iSocialism's correct use of a major character or that no one has contested it.  a) Is Anna Turner character consistent with the role of jailer... yes or no? B) Is a jailer likely to be the role that scum would choose... yes or no? c) Is there likely to be a jailer in the game who would counter such a claim, and if so, wouldn't that raise major red flags in this case... yes or no? d) If there's a jailer who is not Anna Turner, then who is that character?  I have heard zero character or role analysis on your part, so please enlighten us.

so you stepped in even further and threw all your eggs in one basket to try to save iSoc today..... Interesting..... You're the only one who actually voted for iSocialism today.  So me trying to "save him" sounds preposterous.  Moreover, if iSoc is considering jailing me, I won't object.  I'd ask that he randomize his choices a little bit (like flip a coin or something) so as to not let mafia use their power roles to manipulate him.

Final note...

since you people don't know how to read let me spell it out. The point is to ask whoever you targeted (or claim to have targeted) if they had their night action blocked, which would imply they made a night action. if they did not then whatever it is irrelevant anyway and no information is gained. If they did then we can try to confirm your role isoc.

The point isn't who you targeted, the point is confirming your role. As I said before, refusal will signify to me you aren't who you say. therefore,

Vote Isocialism

1. When you are jailed, you are told that you are jailed, not just blocked.

2. It also sounds like your objective wasn't just trying to "confirm his role" (which I did btw) but also to find out if his target had a night action.

BTW, this was a fun post to respond to. I mean that with all sincerity.  But while it's fun, I don't see how it has accomplished anything.  If you can seriously come up with some good character and role analysis that is consistent with events and with Occam's Razor, I might be willing to entertain these thoughts some more.

What a twist and turns of events. I can ensure everyone that Helix is the one I jailed, so he's not lying unless you don't believe me. However I ask you this as I have said that I'm Anna Turner Jailer. How come no one have come forward saying that they are Anna Turner? Yes maybe that character doesn't exist in this mafia game, however what about no one saying that they are a jailer. Even giving the possibility of there being two jailer you think one would have come out and said that they are a jailer which would either guarantee me to be a scum without previous being able to confirmed Helix as my jailed suspect before he came out, ha, anyways. I know that this doesn't guarantee him as being townie, but I wouldn't see why he would stick out his neck.

.There were only 3 characters in the show that someone came close to being classified as a vigilante.  Christopher Wey was not one of them.  I again find it unlikely that if Christopher Wey was in the game as town, that he'd be given that role.  Christopher Wey, to enlighten you guys, was a guy who had a psychic connection to Johnny Smith from several years in the future (a post-apocalyptic future) who tried to warn Smith that he wasn't doing enough to stop Greg Stillson.  Christopher Wey never once was shown to have killed or have tried to kill anyone.  The role doesn't fit, IMO.

What role would you give to Christopher Wey?

.

What role would you give to Christopher Wey?

This is more of a modding suggestion than gameplay, but the best classification for him would probably be Survivor.  It would fit with surviving into the post-apocalyptic future.  He was one of the characters in the show that had significant psychic powers, but there's already enough investigative roles that a role such as Seer would be overkill.  Miller would have been another alternative seeing as he was a rather unsavory character and Johnny was initially suspicious of him.  His main purpose in the show was to be fairly relentless in warning Johnny Smith about Greg Stillson.  I'm not sure if there's another standard role that would fit that.  Vigilante sure doesn't seem like it would seeing as it was literally impossible for the guy to even attempt to kill anyone (contacting Johnny from several years in the future and all).

There are still a lot of people not talking and I doubt that is because they are "inactive."

I may be poorly placing my vote however I cannot vote for KevinH, he does seem fishy, but like I said in the game of mafia. Everyone seems fishy, so mainly going on gut feeling I cannot vote to lynch him. Please do not take this as me defending him. I just don't have enough evidence to vote for him yet.

So going on people who are talking but are hanging in the background my vote is for

Unless you want 7 more people to vote for MutedFaith, I don't see what the purpose of voting for him is.  If you don't expect or try to get 7 other people to vote for him, you're effectively doing a no-lynch (on day 2!). I'm having some trouble understanding why there isn't enough evidence to vote for KevinH, but there is enough to vote for MutedFaith.  KevinH's role claim is bogus.  If you want proof, you can watch the show (season 3 is most pertinent) on netflix if you want or you can take a shortcut and read the wiki page: http://stephenking.wikia.com/wiki/Christopher_Wey

KevinH is scum.

http://i.imgur.com/UZ8DyDx.jpg

This was why I was saying a mass role claim would expose the scum.  I actually think it'd be so one-sided, frankly, that it would ruin the game.

hey im here.. i just have no idea whether to trust iron helix actions or not. not enough to be one of the last two voters anyway.

and i didnt have the time to rea back everything yet.. with work etc.

If you don't want to be one of the last two voters, would me unvoting and then re-voting to be the hammer vote ease your worries?

I don't know how else I can assure you guys he's scum.  Splitting votes is just going to result in no-lynches until the town is dead.

Asking someone to give reference to a show they have never watched is at best idiotic. I already explained my view's, and though I didn't expressly say that iSoc should be the one to reveal who he targeted, KevinH did.

I don't understand the reasoning about keeping the jailer target secret.

The scum knows if iSocialism is truly townie, but the rest of us can have some doubts.

If someone comes forth before iSocialism gives the target and says they were blocked, then iSocialism can say that he did it and nothing is proven.

On the other hand, whoever was blocked has a higher probability of being townie since the night kill went through without being blocked. There's some logic that the scum will want to kill off known townies and thus the jailer target has a higher probability of being killed, but if nobody knows the jailer target then we're no better or worse off than when we started.

^^^^^^^^^^

So you're basically saying there's a jailer in the game who's not iSocialism.  If you're not then you're whole premise is a dead end.

If you wanted to confirm iSoc is town, then you should be calling this person out.  So please, do so.

Also, you're still voting for iSoc, so I'm assuming that means you think he's scum.  If this real jailer has to this point been absent in supporting you, you need to explain why this is so, because that's basically saying a town jailer is letting scum go free.  It doesn't make sense.  Also, if you're saying there is no jailer to begin with, then the whole thing about the target not coming out is pointless and your harping on that is pointless as well.

And I think my response to your post deserves a better response from you than suggesting I'm idiotic.

Not to take kevin's side but the reason that a jailer might not immediately claim is because they can just jail isoc at night....

So should I just start quoting post's already made since you didn't read them the first time?

The reason I am still voting for iSoc is because I don't see who else I should vote for, since I lack the interpretation of the show you have, I don't see the guilt you are putting on KevinH, which is the only current wagon really. I still don't trust you or iSoc, but neither can I prove one way or the other who you are since you claimed before he disclosed who he jailed, which would have been suspicious either way considering you had already been defending him.

So what exactly would jailing iSoc do?  If iSoc is scum, I would logically have to be scum too.  Jailing him would not accomplish anything.  The mafia kill would still go through since I'd be unjailed.  You're saying it's better to jail 1 scum at night than to have the town jailer come forth and have iSoc lynched today and me jailed at night.  And you have the audacity to imply I can't read? Seriously WTF man.

An error: I guess if there was a jailer and he jailed me, then that would mean there wouldn't be certainty of my town/scum disposition.  However, to say that jailing is better than lynching known town is bogus.
