The Dead Zone Mafia, Mafia Wins

The guests sit down to dinner. They had each won an essay writing contest sponsored by Horror writer Stephen King. They had to explain which character from the television show The Dead Zone was there favorite and why. There had been tens of thousands of entries and only one entry was picked for each character.

Here you are now one of the chosen few, sitting down to dinner with Stephen King himself at the welcoming party he is throwing at his Maine estate for the winners before the start of the grand prize, a Dead Zone themed weekend that will be attended by the actors who played your favorite characters.

Dinner is over and you all go off to bed, after all tomorrow is going to be a big day. There was a major storm during the night and you hardly slept at all between the thunder and anticipation. You head on down to the dining room for breakfast.

Good morning everyone, I hope you had a good night’s sleep. I regret to inform you that the bridge is out; it seems it was swept away in
the storm. Sadly this means that the cast will not be able to get here. The lights suddenly go out and there is a loud roar of thunder and a bolt of lightning illuminates the room. The lights quickly come back on but you decide it’s better to be safe and hand out flashlights to all the guests only something is wrong. As you give the last of the guests a flashlight you realize there isn’t one left for you. “This is strange, there were only supposed to be the x of you and I had enough flashlights for myself and each of you. It appears someone has crashed the party.” Before Mr. King can elaborate the lights go out again, only this time they stay out for several minutes. When the lights come back on you see Mr. King covered in blood, dead from multiple stab wounds. There is a note written in almost illegible writing.

“Welcome to The Dead Zone. By now you have probably begun to notice that things are not quite right. No matter for worry, I simply drugged last night’s meal. I’m sorry I had to kill Mr. King but he said I was not important enough for the contest, so nobody wrote letters for me. It’s time to play a little game, were going to see just how well you know your favorite characters. You have to figure out who I am before I kill all of you. The lights are set to go out again in 1 hours’ time, at which point I will kill again. We will keep playing this little game until you are all dead, good luck.”

Panic starts to spread until Reverend Purdy stands up and calls for calm. Wait Reverend Purdy, but he’s a fictional character. He seems to be making sense so you decide to go with it. The group all agrees with his plan, you will work together to find the killer before time runs out. People start making wild accusations about each other before Greg Stillson calls for quite; at this point fictional characters are the least of your concern. He suggests that we vote on whom to kill, surprisingly Johnny agrees with him.

Honestly, CoD, you've got me riled up.  I want you to make the case to me as to why jailing known scum is strategically better than lynching known scum.  Then we can take a poll or ask the others if they agree or disagree with you.

And you know what, just to stick it to you and your numerous accusations that others can't read (which is extremely aggravating), I'd still love for you to address this:

Gathering information is the town's number 1 objective. The fact that you are literally saying we don't need that information just because it tells the scum that he is the jailer (which they already know if he is or not based on whether he is one of them or not). So you are literally saying that the town doesn't need free information.....

Way to misrepresent what I wrote.  I said the scum want to know who he protected, not to confirm he's a jailer, but because that let's them know how to target people/use their power roles better.  Show me where I "literally" said "because it tells the scum he is the jailer".

So either prove up and show me where I "literally" said this, or acknowledge that you have reading problems.

It's obvious at this point that you're not going to assist in lynching KevinH, so I feel comfortable in doing this now.  Let's play the discrepancy game...

The reason I am still voting for iSoc is because I don't see who else I should vote for, since I lack the interpretation of the show you have, I don't see the guilt you are putting on KevinH, which is the only current wagon really. I still don't trust you or iSoc, but neither can I prove one way or the other who you are since you claimed before he disclosed who he jailed, which would have been suspicious either way considering you had already been defending him.

I'm not asking us to lynch iSoc yet, I want to know who he claims to have targeted and then have them confirm or deny.

From this

Lynching is always better than not, therefore....

Isoc may or may not be townie. he has just as much likelihood as everyone else. and we should lynch someone today.

You didn't let him claim it was you and confirm it, like we talked about. You offered that information now, after saying that we shouldn't for so long even through clear arguments that we should have him tell us.

From this

So if Isoc is the jailer, then who did he target last night?

Not to take kevin's side but the reason that a jailer might not immediately claim is because they can just jail isoc at night....

So should I just start quoting post's already made since you didn't read them the first time?

From this

Or he will be scum and you will have left an obvious scum lynch open drawing nothing but suspicion to yourself for defending him. Gathering information is the town's number 1 objective. The fact that you are literally saying we don't need that information just because it tells the scum that he is the jailer (which they already know if he is or not based on whether he is one of them or not). The point is, we won't get 100% certainty that he is the jailer today. We can potentially find out that he is NOT, or that someone else is not.

From This

If you tell us who you targeted and they can verify that their night action (whatever it may be) was blocked, then we can know that you are a townie. If you refuse to say who you targeted, then I can only assume that you are not what you say you are.

The point isn't who you targeted, the point is confirming your role. As I said before, refusal will signify to me you aren't who you say. therefore,

Additionally

-Is claiming to want to confirm iSoc is the jailer but after I say I was jailed he has upped the ante to suggesting there is a secret jailer that is going to jail scum rather than lynch scum, and refuses to call said jailer out.

-Is claiming to want to confirm iSoc is the jailer but also wants to know if the jailed person had a night action (red flag) and if it was blocked.

-Can't make up his mind if he wants to claim we're both scum and ditch the criticism of my reveal (can't do that because that's his main suspicion that I'm scum to begin with) or to claim there's a secret jailer who won't come forward to back him up.

Expanding:

I still don't trust you or iSoc, but neither can I prove one way or the other who you are since you claimed before he disclosed who he jailed, which would have been suspicious either way considering you had already been defending him.

If we're both scum, then iSoc would have claimed me as his target.  That wouldn't have proved that he is town.  It wouldn't have proved that I am town. So you're criticism that I stopped iSocialism from proving he is town is pointless, and frankly suspiciously misleading.

-Chose to largely ignore my response to his post and initially responds with barely two sentences, one of which suggests I'm an idiot.

-The ad hominems, oh the ad hominems.

I'm sorely tempted to start getting votes on you to make you role claim.  You're seriously pinging my radar.  I'm certain KH is scum, but you're #2 on my suspect list at this point.  I look forward to your two sentence reply.

Are you sure the show is proof the mod did not give that character those abilities?

If Kevinh was lying wouldn't he know better than to pick someone who doesn't entirely fit the role?

In the signup thread, mod said knowing the show would be helpful.  The background on day 1 said:

Other than KevinH, we've had 2 characters die and 2 more named characters with claimed roles.  All 4 had roles that matched the character description.  KevinH's is the only one so far that doesn't match.  Unless Kevin knows the show, he's probably going to make a mistake in picking a plausible character/role.  It seems like I'm the only player who actually watched the show to prepare for this game.  KevinH would probably have gotten away with his claim if no one had.

Because I see day three going on the same way, and that I'm putting my trust in Helix. Almost everyone else has voted for him and very few have remove their vote after his role claim.

Voting for me: 7 (Kaziocore , Imran Ehsan, Iron Helix, Lyner, Commander Shepard, Alternate_Tree, iSocialism)

Voting for somebody else: 2 (Chaplain of Death, KevinH)

Not voting at all: 5 (Muted Faith, Zacch, D3mon, Ogaden, Shadow)

There must be a lot scum in those that are voting for me.

One more vote and I'm lynched ... it would be in the best interest of the scum for that to happen.

I tend to find it very plausible that all the role claims are valid ... not because of Dead Zone knowledge but because of game play.

iSocialism claimed to be a jailor which tends to be an infrequent role. Iron Helix claimed he was jailed which gives credence to the jailor claim. If they were working together to fool us, then it would have made more sense for iSocialism to name Iron Helix as his target and then get confirmed.

Ogaden and Kaziocore both watched iSocialism and saw the same thing. It's consistent and there's no evidence to the contrary. Although since Kaziocore claimed second, he could be making it up.

Nevertheless, we know there are scum amongst us. My best guess is that they are already voting for me or truly inactive and not realizing that one more vote will lynch me.

So its quite interesting that your entire post was full of "from (this) to (this)" none of which made any coherent sense. You just posted random quote's and said that they showed me contradicting myself which I did not make any large contradictions, other than a progressing of understanding of the fact that as always in Mafia, you have no guarantee's. So even asking iSoc for his target would confirm nothing, but the way to play mafia is to gather information, the more information we have the more educated our guesses.

I thought you might do this, So I had this written out.  I did just the quotes so that I would let others interpret it their way without my own bias to influence them.

Here's my interpretation:

1. Now extremely hesitant to lynch someone (in this instance, KevinH, with 7 votes on him).  Previously careless about lynching someone.
2. Now claiming that you wanted only iSoc to confirm.  Previously didn't indicate that.
3. Now claiming that jailing scum is as good as lynching scum and implying jailer doesn't need to come forward.  Previously said that town needs all information available to them and that scum shouldn't be allowed to go without a lynch.  Also is now semi-defending KevinH.  previously had stated that defending someone (in this case, iSoc) would just leave a person open to the possibility of being lynched by association if it turns out the defended party were scum.
4. Now acknowledges that certainty that iSoc is jailer cannot be obtained with present info today.  Previously claimed that confirming would let us "know he is a townie".

If you seriously wanted more information, you wouldn't be trying to defend the position of there being a secret jailer.
You claim you want more information, which is consistent with you wanting to know if the target had a night action, however, that's still highly suspicious to me.
You've also ignored my point that me revealing that I was jailed did not prevent iSoc from being confirmed as town.

I was waiting until a counter claim of sorts from someone else claiming to be a vig, as there is unlikely to be 2 vigs in a single game.

But there was no other evidence against Kevinh, I don't think the current evidence is strong enough to have a definite lynching.

Especially not with my vote, I always considered sole people who claimed a role had immunity from lynching such as iSocialism.

Kevinh will not be much different.

It’s time to play a little game, were going to see just how well you know your favorite characters. You have to figure out who I am before I kill all of you.

The interpretation of this part of the Mod post is not enough to justify lynching Kevinh.

If Kevinh is lying and there is a vig then the vig will know for a fact if he is truly lying.

##Lynch: d3mon

So... if that's the case and KevinH's role is really Christopher Wey as a vigilante then that means that (1) the mod messages were lies/red herrings, (2) characters won't have roles that match their show attributes and (3) the character names and overall theme is irrelevant and pointless.

Again, I STILL stand by my gladitorial 1x1 challenge.  If he's lynched and comes up town, I'll self-vote/accept being killed.  That should be enough for you to believe me unless you're siding with him.

I don't want you having a strong influence over who I will be voting for up to possibly 2 days, that is mostly why I don't like this challenge you made.

If Kevinh is lying he will most likely be killed during the night.

Is that because you think I'm scum or because you think I'm wrong?  If I'm scum then worst case scenario is 1 townie for 1 scum.  If I'm just wrong, then you get to lynch the village idiot.  You also don't know that Kevin would get killed during the night.  You're firstly assuming there is a vigilante.  You're secondly assuming the scum wouldn't use any power roles available to them to stop it.  Since the target (kevinh) is being named, that makes it easy for them.

I'm not assuming there is a Vig that did not claim, I'm saying it is most likely there is one and hence it is most likely Kevinh will be killed if he is lying.

I would be very surprised if there was not one.

Not sure what the scum could do to prevent a kill, usually only the town have power roles to protect someone.

Is that because you think I'm scum or because you think I'm wrong?

No it is because I am not comfortable with it, and the both of you could be two townies with good power roles.

A protective role or a manipulative role are possible with scum.  There's also the possibility he's bulletproof (SK or Godfather).  Again, if KH is Wey as a vig, then the theme and character names were just a massive red herring.  I don't buy that.

By not lynching, you're also accepting two days of no-lynch.  There's less than 24 hours left of the game day.  Voting for d3mon is going to be pointless.

By not lynching, you're also accepting two days of no-lynch.

I don't consider Day 1 a day for lynching, I will use my vote to put on pressure but I prefer if no one got lynched on Day 1 unless they were definitely scum.

This day is not over, people can still vote Kevinh if they wish to see him lynched.

Alright then, your position is noted.  Frankly I've moved heaven and earth to try to get this lynch.  If this lynch doesn't go through, then IMO achieving 8 votes to lynch (what I conclude to be) scum is going to be impossible.  It's just going to get harder the following days.  The game is broken, I guess due to inactivity.  I'm also really curious as to how many scum there are to begin with.

Just because not everybody is willing to follow your supreme leadership doesnt make this game broken.

I'm not comfortable with possibly killing our vigilante. Not without any direct proof.

At this point lynching KevinH gives us the most info as compared to no lynching (the only other viable option at the moment). So I would hope we will be able to get the lynch as that will give us more info going into Day 3 even if kevin turns out to be a townie. No lynching and going into Day 3 with possibly 2 more dead townies doesnt really help the town in terms of info for the next lynch.

I still think kevinH is a good option for a lynch. I dont really buy his Vig claim. That is a very convenient role claim for scum, because even if someone is watching/tracking him during the night while he delivers a kill, he can just claim it was a vig kill.

Well helix, I made 1 or 2 comments because you were ignoring posts already made. You were literally asking questions answered 5 days previous. As for my comment about being "idiotic", that was simply the strategy of using the show as a way to determine guilt when not everyone has even watched the show. I don't think you're idiotic for referencing the show as it will be useful, but using that as a major reason to lynch someone without other evidence is in fact idiotic.

I don't agree with your reasons for voting for KevinH, which is why I was "semi-defending him". I wasn't jumping in and screaming that you were wrong and stupid like you did with my suspicion of iSoc, I simply pointed out flaws and doubts in your reasoning. However, as I have said before we do need to lynch someone, and at this point its going to be KevinH because you won't be dissuaded from your course of action.

I would like to point out though that you even admitted you moved heaven and earth for this lynch. So, if he shows up town........ well I think we all know what that would mean. If hes scum, then you will have gained some townie points.
