North Korea needs nukes...beacause Trump
The problem with politics in the USA is everything has been pushed to extremes on everything. There is no common ground on anything. Identity politics has divided every issue into "For or Against", with no compromise on anything. It's all or nothing, and no one comes away happy about anything. We need a Convention of States... a Constitutional Convention... it is there that the state legislators will realize that the USA has irreconcilable differences, and we need a divorce... before people get hurt. Are you advocating for the dissolution of the US? If so, don't you think that's a little extreme?

North Korea needs nukes...beacause Trump
Hold your horses Trump supporters...Lys I'm looking in your direction. No, seriously wait. I graduated from MUN. I earned two degrees from MUN, nearly 20 years ago. In my day, we would have laughed this idiot off campus. Here, read this absolute horseshit. http://themuse.ca/2018/04/04/why-north-korea-needs-nuclear-weapons/ I only agree with one sentence in this whole thing (which is poorly written): "North Korea has done a lot of terrible things to their own people which cannot be excused." You mean Little Rocket Man? He tries to paint Mr. Trump and the US as a bunch of blood thirsty warmongers. That the fucking Norks are peaceful people dedicated to peaceful reunification. This idiot can go fuck his hat. Lets leave whether you love or hate Trump aside. President Trump is subject to term limits, rule of law, and is fully accountable to the American people. Jim Jong Asshole is subject to nothing. His word is law. He can do what he pleases. The only way to remove this blood soaked dictator is by military coup. President Trump can be removed by an impeachment vote in Congress. Bloody hell. As far as I'm concerned the author of this shameful piece of crap should do himself a favour. Stop wasting his money, drop out of University, because he's too stupid to be there.

Florida Shooting
To be honest, I didn't read any of the previous posts. I'm not going to waste my time. I'm not going to sit here and read polarized opinions. I'm going straight for the heart of the matter. I'm going to be as offensive as fuck. I don't care. I don't care if I hurt your precious "feels". You're more than welcome to crawl back into your safe space, suck on your thumb, and cuddle up with your unicorn. Don't think for one minute, one second, that I don't care about the families that have been ripped apart by another senseless act of gun violence. I do. Lets be honest here's how this will play out: "Our thoughts and prayers" Some asinine comment from the NRA, their bought politicians, and Fox Propaganda. A week from now it will be forgotten. Then you'll go back to pacifying yourselves with brainless television, and stuffing your faces with double quarter ton cheeseburgers from MacDonald's. While you sit there and wait for the next one. Then... "Our thoughts and prayers" Some asinine comment from the NRA, their bought politicians, and Fox Propaganda. A week from now it will be forgotten. Then you'll go back to pacifying yourselves with brainless television, and stuffing your faces with double quarter ton cheeseburgers from MacDonald's. While you sit there and wait for the next one. Rinse and repeat. Have I pissed you off? Good, you should be pissed. You should be enraged. At the simple fact that your nation is so divided it can't come together long enough to admit that it has a problem. That you are going to scream racism. socialism, liberalism, communism, Hitler, Second Amendment, and "We need guns to defend ourselves" That you are prepared to deny the truth. Every single year you reenact the Battle of Antietam (by far your bloodiest day), on your streets. That every two years more of your citizens are killed by guns, than your Armed Forces lost in the entirety of Vietnam. Every single year, millions of man hours of production is lost. Every single year, your out of control gun violence costs your economy (by conservative estimates), hundreds of billions of dollars. Every single year (2017), over 42 000 of your fellow citizens are gunned down in cold blood. Don't you feel their pain? Don't you feel their loss? That's your mother, your father, your son, your daughter, your nephew, your niece, your husband, your wife, your sister, your brother, your friend, who has been killed by some asshole with a gun. Are their lives worth less than your right to carry a gun? I never thought that I would see Americans so scared, so frighten, so cowardly that they wouldn't stand up and demand change. Here's a nation that has given the world so much. Yet you can't stand for yourselves. You are too terrified to enact change. Never thought I'd see the day.

Here's an exercise in Poltical cynasism that doesn't involve Trump
http://www.cbc.ca/news/opinion/electoral-reform-1.4515883 Here we go. Flash back to 2015, Mr. Stephen Harper was the Prime Minster. I'll admit he was very unpopular at the time. Enter Justin. He promises that this will be the last election that is run using First Past the Post. Because..uhh, ummm, err, aaah democracy and its current year now. Enter the Elizabeth May, the leader of the Green Party, showing how much of a goose stepping fascist she is when she announces "If Harper wins a majority government, I'm going to march into the Governor General and demand that Harper not be allowed to form the government." (Lys I know you're reading this now because I mentioned Trump, I'll explain it later) Well, Shiny Pony wins the election. Now he has to make good on his promise, to reform the way we vote. He wants a Ranked Preferential Ballot, which I'm convinced involves interpreting the entrails of a goat. He instructs Parliament to form a committee to recommend electoral change. That committee reports the following: 1: A referendum ( not all that popular in Canadian politics) 2: The preferred change is (according to the asinine mydemocracy.ca), Proportional Representation. What does Prime Minster Selfie do? Dismisses the lot, because the stupid little people don't know whats good for them. The only reason Trujoke wants Ranked Preferential Ballot, is because it would favour the Liebral Party. Like I'm going to trust a party that has described itself as "the naturally governing party of Canada". Like I'm going to trust a "leader" who admire's China because of their "basic dictatorship". Justin..Just Out 2019.

Sessions begins enforcement of Federal pot laws
I'll give my two cents on this one. On 1 July recreational use of marijuana will be legal in Canada. To be honest, I happen to agree that it should be. I'm sitting here drinking beers, so why would I decry and condemn another person's choice of drug. That would be hypocritical. Do I believe weed is harmless. No, not for one second. I don't care what you've found after spending an afternoon of intensive study at Google University's School of Medicine. It's a drug, and it will have an effect. I laugh at the people who proclaim that marijuana will cure all ailments. So will 'Dr. McCullcaides Medicinal Elixir. Made with ancient herbs from the far East" (Red Dead Redemption, patent medicines). I digress. The Trudeau government's decision to legalize marijuana has been a subject of national debate. Not as to whether it should be legal, but how it should be controlled. Unless you want me to launch into a discussion of the division of powers as defined under s.91 and s.92 of the Constitution Act 1867 (which I can do), accept what I'm about to say. Criminal Law is the preserve of the Federal Government. All they have to do is, by act of Parliament, declare that marijuana is no longer subject to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (which is part of the Criminal Code of Canada). However, regulations as to the sale and control of alcohol and tobacco, of which marijuana will fall, is subject to provincial jurisdiction. I know that some provinces have decided to sell marijuana via agency stores. Namely Quebec (SAQ), Alberta (AGLC), and Ontario (LCBO), others have chosen to sell via privatized dispensaries, others have gone for a mix. As Lys correctly pointed out, in regards to business. There are numerous employers struggling to determine how to deal with the legalization of marijuana. There are millions of Canadians who work in high risk occupations, that you wouldn't necessarily want stoned out of their gourd who while performing their duties. Under s.8 of the Constitution Act 1982, we are protected from unreasonable search or seizure. The courts have upheld that right and have determined that employers cannot perform drug testing, unless they have reasonable cause to suspect that the majority of their employees are under the influence. Randomized is fine, as long as it is anonymous. I've noticed that some of you have said, "legalize it and tax the hell out of it." That defeats the purpose. The idea is to take the sale of marijuana out of the hands of criminals. If it's taxed to high, why would the end user choose to patronize a pot store over "the guy", he/she has always gone to? Case in point, cigarettes are highly taxed in Canada. A pack of 25 Pall Mall Regs costs $9.80 in Quebec. It can get as high as $16.00 in some provinces for Players, DuMaurier, or RJR MacDonald. There is a thriving black market for smokes. After the last round of Federal/Provincial debates the tax rate for marijuana was set at $1.00 per gram ($0.75 to the province, $0.25 to the Federal). The various level of governments have stated that the sale of marijuana will not be a revenue stream. Revenue will be lost because of the increased costs of Addiction Awareness, Education, Health Care, Police Training, and etc.

Happy New Year all. I wish you all the best. Okay, the last vacation I took was in 2003. I'm thinking I'd like to go to Las Vegas. Aside from pissing my life egg away in some casino. What is there to do and see? Shows..(aside from that BQ bitch, damned if I'll pay good money to watch Celine Dion..may she rot). A nice museum. I'm big into history. Aside from gambling, what can you recommend?

Need a new TV show to watch
Hogan's Heroes is good. I'd personally recommend M*A*S*H. Wonderful show. I can watch them over and over again. Lots of memorable characters, and amazing stories. It's one of the top rated sit coms of all time. The final episode "Farewell, Goodbye" still holds the record as the highest rated series finale. Check it out dude, you won't be disappointed.

iTunes Card? Now what the hell do expect me to do with that?
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas season. Thanks for all the suggestions. The only one I could come up with was to pay off my overdue taxes that Officer John Parker (badge number 6144), from the CRA keeps calling here about. Really, I didn't know the Exchequer accepted iTunes gift cards! LOL. I don't stream music myself, never saw the point of it. You can't save the song you want, or I've never been able to figure it out. Never mind the fact that I don't have unlimited internet, so I have to watch my bandwidth. If I go over, it gets expensive. I used to sell things on E-Bay, made some decent money at it. However, I stopped because I was badly burned. Never mind that now they take 10% of your sale. I missed vinyl personally, now a buddy of mine is an audiophile and swears its the best format. My dad has a turntable, and still listens to all of his records from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I can remember going into town with my parents and going to Sam the Record Man and Fred's Records, with my dad. I did have a Fisher Price record player. I still remember my dad bought a Sony Walkman in the very early 80's. I think I was in grade one. My mom got so angry with him, because he paid over $200.00 for it. I grew up with tapes. When I graduated grade four, my graduation present was a Ghetto Blaster (well, that's what it was called!). The first tape I bought was 'The Lonesome Jubilee", by John Cougar Mellencamp. A few months ago, I found a stereo with a tape deck at work. They we getting rid of it, and it magically made its way into the trunk of my car. Now I'm able to listen to all of my old tapes, including the mixed ones, I made in my youth. Presently, I have a SiriusXM radio, but rarely use it. Only when I venture beyond the Montreal area. Hard to find a English language radio station that plays rock. Mostly what I can find is a station playing what I call 50 varieties of Kesha. I can't go pop music. They play the same 20 'songs' over and over again for three weeks. Then they become 'Classic Hits'. That is the special hell of Virgin Radio, which I was forced to listen to by the youngster at work...until the radio mysteriously disappeared. No, I didn't have anything to do with it...I think the Warrant did. My car stereo is locked onto CHOM 97.7, all the best rock from the 70's to the present.

iTunes Card? Now what the hell do expect me to do with that?
Okay. A very dear friend of mine sent me an iTunes card. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful. He's been my best buddy for nearly 40 years. He and his family had stood with me through thick and thin. I love him ,in a platonic sense. That being said. I don't have latest piece of iJunk made by crApple. Hell, I don't even have a cell phone. I have a near psychopathic hatred of those things. The last one I owned, I put that thing in the microwave. Yes, the nuker. Not because I fell for some prank online, I wanted to watch that thing fry. I wanted to watch it die. I've crushed one under my foot. I've thrown one out the the window of my car as I've been driving down the TCH at 100 km/h. I've pounded one into to dust with a sledge hammer. Have I told you how much I hate those goddamn things. No, I'm not joking. So I got an iTunes card. I'll never use the thing. Is there a charity I can give it to? Is there someone here who would like it? Happy Saturnalia my friends. Wishing you and yours all the best.

If you support the troops, do me this favour
Hi. I'd like to ask you all to do me a favour. I'd like it if you could post the following message to your Face Book, Tumblr, Twitter, or what ever stupid computer thing you are currently using. Too many of your guardians are suffering right now. To many of them will take their own lives this season. For many of you this season is one that you will spend in the warm embrace of friends and family. For others, its a time we spend alone. Isolated from the people we care about, wrestling with our demons. Yes, I have demons. They come to me often. I have PTSD, not from my service in the military. I have never seen combat. I was a teacher in Northern Canada. I spent 8 years there. I lost many students I cared about, many wonderful kids with a lot to offer to suicide. Do you have any idea how hard that is? To strike a kid off you register as "Deceased", to watch that child's friends in agony, crying, mourning for their lost buddy, and to know that you have to put your grief aside for the benefit, to be there for them. Do you know what its like to not be able to listen to a song? Because the last memory you have of that person, who had so much to offer, who had so much potential. Who was laughing and smiling as he sung that song, a week later is dead by his own hand? It hurts. Two years ago, I nearly listened to my demons. I nearly put a loaded gun in my mouth. I nearly pulled the trigger. If it hadn't been for my brothers and sisters in arms, I would have done it. They were there for me. They picked me up. They told me I mattered. Please, for the love of whatever deity you believe in, please post this to your social media. "My brothers and sisters, whether we have patrolled together or not, whether we even fought in the same war or not I want you to be safe, healthy and happy this Christmas season. I am here 24/7 if you are in crisis. Reach out, send a message, call....there is no weakness. We all stumble and we all need to lift each other back up. This is a hard time of year for many. Could my Forces Facebook friends (and others) please copy and repost? Thank you. Canadian Military crisis line: 1-800-268-7708 24/7 365 Veterans Crisis Hotline UK: 0800 731 4880 or 0800 138 1619; Global number: +44 (0)207 463 9292 USA Veterans Crisis Line: 1-800-273-8255 So that no brother or sister need stand alone. If any of my Australian,New Zealand, Dutch and Norwiegan Veterans want to edit and share Please Do. Our Veteran Brotherhood Community knows no boundaries." On that note. If anyone here is in distress. If all you need to do is talk. Please send me a message. I will PM you my phone number. Call me collect. I'm here for you.

The Five Worst Movies You Have Ever Seen
Worst movies eh? I should start off by saying I have a thing for bad B class movies. I thought “Iron Sky” was amazing. “Shock Waves”, underwater Nazi Zombies was freaking hilarious. “Plan Nine from Outer Space”, one of the 50 worst movies ever made, was pure genius. “Dead Snow”, who doesn't like frozen Nazi zombies? You want my list of the worst movies I've ever seen, here you go. “Sucker Punch”. Easily the worst piece of crap I've ever had the misfortune to see. This abomination makes me want to gouge my eyes out. It starts off with the cliche of the evil stepfather and the rich mother. The mother dies and leaves her fortune to her two daughters. This pisses off the stepfather, who is molesting the eldest sister Baby (yes, that is her name...Baby). Well, after pounding back a drink he tries to molest Baby, and she fights him off. He then goes after Baby's (Christ, I want to punch something right now), younger sister. She steals a gun, and sneaks into her sister's room. Because she's holding it all gangsta, she shoots her sister. So because Baby is crazy, her stepfather has her committed to an Asylum. Where he pays a crooked orderly to have Baby lobotomized. Now the real fun begins. In fact, the Asylum is actually a bordello. The stepfather is a priest, and Baby is an orphan. It's in this bordello, where Baby has been sold to entertain the VIP, who is the doctor who will perform the lobotomy, that discovers she has the magical power of Dance. Still with me? She's told that if she's uses this power, she'll be able to escape from the bordello. All she'll need, is a map, a key, fire and a knife. She enlists the help of her friends, and using the magical power of dance we launch into an alternate, alternate reality. Where she and her friends, end up fighting Samurai warrior statues, steampunk zombies in World War one, a dragon with a B-24, and robots on a train in the future. Her plan fails as the radio gets unplugged, and the doctor lobotomizes her just as the police bust in and arrest the orderly and the doctor. “Titanic” Hey, I've got a better way to blow 100 million dollars. Put it in the middle of the room and light it on fire. I went to see this piece of shit with my girlfriend at the time. I fell asleep when Rose was hanging over the back of the ship and didn't wake up until I heard gunshots. When it ended I stood up an cheered, it was finally over! I said to her, “Come on Lynn, lets get the hell out of here so we can get a cab back to the apartment.” Yes, there was hell to pay. I To this day, I haven't been able to make my way through that godawful thing. Tired cliches, a tired love triangle, combined with the screeching of that treasonous bitch Celine Dion. “Pearl Harbour” See above. Same movie, but without the screeching of that separatist whore. After being inducted into the Order of Canada, that worthless bitch was asked if she was proud that her country he given her this honour. She replied “Canada isn't my country, Quebec is.” Fuck you. If I were the Governor General, I would have stripped her of that honour on the spot. Burn in Hell you separatist bitch. “U-571” Sorry I think I got off on a rant there in my reaction to “Pearl Harbour”. Nothing more than “Yay, Yay USA” nonsense. Highly disrespectful of the bravemen who were fighting Hitler two years before the Americans. Including my grandfather who was one of Lord Mountbatten's Commandos. My grandmother often said, “Leo spent the war cutting throats." I don't take kindly to that level of historical inaccuracy. Star Trek (as directed by JJ Abrams): Jesus H Fucking Christ. I only made it through the first 15 minutes of the first movie. Awful, just awful.

Social Media and its impact
@SeeBeeGipson: I can agree that Social Media has its benefits. Technology is neither bad nor good, its neutral. I can use a hammer to build a house, or I can use a hammer to kill a person. I can certainly understand the value of Social Media. Two years ago, over the Christmas holidays I was that depressed I was contemplating suicide. I posted something on my FaceBook and it saved me. A friend that I haven't seen since High School (he's a PAFO in Ottawa), called the MPs and got me the help I needed. I mentioned in a post I made about Star Trek Discovery (yes, I hate it), that I was bullied in Junior High and High School. At least I knew that when I went home at 3:00, it was over. I didn't have to face it again until the next morning. Now, because of social media, its invading the only sanctuary some of these kids have. That being said, I firmly think that we need to weigh the good with the bad, and overall I think the impact that social media has had is not for the best. We, as a society, need to reevaluate how we use it and to minimize its role in our lives. To approach it with the attitude of "Caveat Emptor". As to the video, go to Youtube and type in "a generation of weakness" and it will show up. No, he doesn't piss on Generation Y. He cites Social Media as one small part of the overall shitty hand Gen Y has been dealt. @GoldIron: I don't dislike Gen Y. As you pointed out, each generation criticizes the one that comes after it. Hell, I'm Gen X, and we were described as slackers. You are absolutely correct when you state that overuse of social media is leading to increased polarization. I like what the Editorial section on BBC described American society "Due to the use of social media to stay informed and bloviating network news. Americans have divided into two hostile alien camps, that neither understand the other side, nor have any wish to do so." How can democracy survive when you have no compromise? I'm not pissing on Americans, I see it here (Canada), too. To be frank it scares the hell out of me.

Social Media and its impact
I was reading this article earlier today: http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/social-media-facebook-twitter-instagram-society-negative-1.4429146 I found it interesting, as its something I've been saying for a long time now about social media and the internet in general, it's a weapon of mass destruction. No, you don't need to point out the irony of me using the internet to decry it, I'm well aware of it. Okay, okay...maybe weapon of mass destruction is a little (a lot idiot, says you), dramatic. I've been drinking, celebrating tonight, I just signed my IE25 (guaranteed employment until I'm 58). However, for all its benefits there are a lot of negative effects. I know that Bill Gates and others, the leaders of the digital revolution are now saying we need to slow the hell down, that we have come too far, too fast. I think I'm off topic. Social media. I agree with the premise of the article. Social media is toxic, it's an echo chamber. It has fundamentally changed the way we relate to our fellow human beings. It has changed the way we consume information and stay informed and not for the better. Look at what it's done to Generation Y (Millennials) and is doing to Generation Z. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXWNChoIluo As to the above video, I've done some checking, and the claims Simon Sinek makes are accurate. I've read the books "The Shallows: What the Internet is doing To Our Brains", and "The Dumbest Generation: Or Don't Trust Anyone Under 30". Yes, they are interesting reads. Now, I'm not pissing on Millennials, you are what you've been programmed to be, and it's not your fault. The fault is ours. I used to be a High School teacher, and I had to quit. Mainly because I couldn't sell that bullshit message to my students. That you can be anything you want, if you can dream it you can do it, you are all winners. Christ, if I'd stayed in that profession, I'd have put a gun in my mouth a long time ago. I couldn't do it. I viewed it as disrespectful to my students, because I couldn't help prepare them for the cold hard realities of life. I'm sorry that it happened to you. Shit, off topic again. Social Media. It's a bloody echo chamber, using algorithms that produce "information" based on your interests or things you've liked. I can see how anxiety producing it is. I have a friend, really nice person. If you look at her FaceBook, or Instant Gram, or Tumblr (good source for porn, by the way), you'd think she was a rock star. When in fact she's miserable and nearly broke. I've even told her she needs to stop comparing herself to what she sees on her friends social media accounts. No every ones life is all unicorns and rainbows. I worry about her sometimes. Anyway, that's my two bits. Discuss.

Misconceptions about the Swastika
I have to agree with Lysistrata. To state that in "30-40 years no one will remember", is a ludicrous statement to make. The Holocaust, and by extension Nazi Germany, enjoys the distinction of being one of the most well documented atrocities in human history. At the Eichmann trial in Jerusalem in 1960-61, the prosecution presented over 2.5 TONS of documents bearing his signature. For those of you who don't know, Adolf Eichmann was a Gestapo Officer in charge of Dept 4BIV, or the Gestapo's Office of Jewish Affairs. He department controlled the ghettos and was directly responsible for drawing up the lists for transport to the camps. On Israel's Most Wanted List, he was number four, after Hitler, Bormann and Muller. Even today on BBC, I read this: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-42144186 The Nazi state and its activities (to which the Swastika is linked), had a profound impact on international law. The 1951 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. It stems from that period, and has served as a the basis for indictments for Crimes of Genocide. Look at what just happened in the IJC or The Hague. The conclusion of 16 years of trials for war crimes (including genocide), in the former Yugoslavia. Its impact on the Laws of Armed Conflict. One of the central pillars of the LOAC, something every member of every NATO military has sworn to abide by, is the Nuremberg Principle. That just following orders, is no defence. Because of the monstrosity of the crimes committed by the Nazis, has made us more aware of the necessity of speaking up and openly condemning these acts. For example, the Armenian Genocide (1915-1917), 1.5 million Armenians were murdered by Turkey. Even though we were at war with Turkey, nothing was said, Turkey was never formally condemned (at the time), for its actions. The Holocaust spurned no response from the Allies. Yes, we knew about it. Churchill and Roosevelt were both briefed in 1942 about mass killings of Jews. There was a wealth of intelligence concerning Nazi activities. Compare that, to the response to two recent genocides. The Rohingya in Myanmar. Look how fast the world condemned Myanmar for its actions. Look at how fast the UNHCR got involved. People are demanding that Aung San Suu Ky be stripped of her Nobel Prize because she refused to speak up. https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2017/09/aung-san-suu-kyi-nobel-prize/540453/ The Darfur Genocide, they have been condemned by the UN and just about every other world government. The African Union has peacekeepers in the region. https://www.hmh.org/la_genocide_darfur.shtml

Misconceptions about the Swastika
The Swastika comes from the Far East and is a symbol for good luck. As others have pointed out in the late 19th and early 20th century when the traditions of the Far East became fashionable in the west, the swastika was used for the same purpose, a sign of good luck. Which is why you'll see it on a lot of printed materials from the time. It was even used by allied pilots as decoration on their air craft during World War One. I have a funny story about the swastika. A friend of mine, before I get too far, he is a devout Hindu from India. Remember that, you'll need it later. When he was attending the University of Toronto, he put up a swastika in his dorm room. A couple of days later, he had a complaint filed against him for displaying a "racist symbol". He even had to face a disciplinary hearing, with a potential out come of eviction from the dorm. It ended well, as once he explained the significance of the swastika in his culture, the matter was dropped and the complainant apologized for her error. As well, it was explained to the residents of the dorm as well, to avoid any further trouble. However, the symbol the Nazis used is properly called a Hakenkreuz, and aside from shape, it has little to do with the swastika. The Hakenkreuz was adopted from Norse symbolism. At the same time (late 18th to early 19th century), the was a fascination with neo-paganism. This movement was really popular in Germany, especially after the end of the First World War. There were a number of neo-pagan groups operating in Germany, including the Thule Society which had a lot of future Nazis as member. People like Julius Streicher (Chief Ideologue of the Nazi Party), and Heinrich Himmler. As part of this neo-pagan movement, almost central to is, was the idea of runes. If you look as at the SS, you'll see a lot of runes incorporated in to their uniforms, decorations and unit identifiers. For example the twin SSs on their collars are Sig runes, or the rune for Victory. Initially the Hakenkreuz was a pagan symbol for the god Donner (Thor). In 19th century Germany it became the symbol for Nationalism and Racial Struggle, and post 1918 it was adopted by several FreiKorps (forerunners of the SA and SS). Hitler was very well aware of the popularity of neo-paganism, combined with his pop historical knowledge of German history, led him to incorporate these neo-pagan ideas into Nazi ideology. This was furthered by Streicher and Himmler. If you listen to his speechs (which I have, as part of my Political Science/History degree), you'll hear a lot of these neo-pagan ideas expressed.

Ancient Islamic tradition revived - Slave market reopens in Lybia!
Here's what the UN has to say about it: http://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/human-trafficking/global-report-on-trafficking-in-persons.html Modern forms of slavery are everywhere. Samus I have no idea what you are driving at, and I'm not about to put words in your mouth. However, you are right. Slavery predates Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and even yes, the Transatlantic Slave Trade . It has been with us for thousands of year, ever since we started living in cities and developed large scale agriculture.

Star Trek: Discovery
Is any one else watching this abomination? Before you ask, no I'm not paying for CBS All Access....or what ever the hell its called. Its being broadcast on the Space channel here in Canada. https://www.space.ca/ My reaction: junk, absolute junk. Words cannot express how much I despise it. It is not Star Trek. They have re-imagined those god awful JJ Abrams reboots. As far as I'm concerned there's a special place in hell for him. I am a hard core Treker...call me a Trekkie and I'll put my foot so far up your ass you'll taste leather. Here's what I hate. I'm going to let my nerd flag fly...feel free to ask me about my Worgen Rouge! Non canon uniforms. Evidently this piece of shit is anywhere between 10 to 50 years before Kirk's command of the Enterprise. So why the hell are they not wearing the uniforms that are portrayed in the TOS? Why are they wearing the Enterprise insignia? The Enterprise insignia wasn't adopted as a universal insignia for all of Star Fleet until the successful conclusion of Kirk's first five year mission. Before that each star ship had it's own badge, as shown in "Charlie X", "The Doomsday Machine", "The Omega Glory", "The Ultimate Computer", and "The Tholian Web". I hate all of the charters. Good god, they are all shallow, and one dimensional. Michael Burnham has one of two modes. Angry and Moody. Captain Lorca, "We have to win the war at all costs" That bloody cadet Burnham shares a room with. Damned if I can remember her name...I've been calling her Redheaded Idiot. Obnoxious, whiny and a graduate of the Star Fleet Academy Special Needs Program. I'm waiting for her to cry about her triggers and demand a "safe space". Those are only the ones I can remember. The Klingons...why? Why did they did they have to do that to the Klingons? I know that the politics of Star Trek has always been to the left of center. I know that the various races in Star Trek have been used as allegories for real life politics. In the TOS, the Klingons were used as allegories for the USSR. But to cast them as Donald Trump supporters? Yes, I'm serious. http://www.businessinsider.com/star-trek-discovery-klingon-slogan-similar-to-trump-maga-2017-9 Yeah, I'm sorry but I don't want the ideology of a bunch of Hollywood hypocrites rammed down my throat. Not when I want to fly among the stars with my favourite franchise. That's what pisses me off the most. I hate the fact that these fucktards have cast the Klingons as a bunch of despicable people as imagined by a bunch of celbutards that have no idea of what real life is like. A bunch of rich assholes who think they know better than us working class stiffs. I'm about to bear my soul here. I'm going to tell you somethings that I've never told anyone else. It hurts me personally that the idiots who made this disgrace have diminished the Klingons. In High School I was mercilessly bullied. I was in to science fiction, video games, and computers before it was cool. I was beaten up, I had my gym clothes stolen, I was called gay, I was treated as less than a person. I thought about suicide many times. It was the Klingons, more specifically Mr. Worf (as pathetic as that sounds), that gave me the courage to survive. Here was a people I could look up to, a person that I could emulate. A person that withstood all the slings and arrows of fate, and still stood strong and proud. Mr. Worf gave me strength. I'll be damned if I'll watch or support a show that degenerates the magic that Star Trek represents. My only reaction to this thing is: "I'm done." TLDR, it's awful, don't waste your time. Given they are going to be running this thing against "The Walking Dead", and it costs (reportedly), six million dollars a episode. It's done, and so am I.

US military ban on Trans
Of all the points I made, this is what you've chosen to respond to. Did I say I don't respect my Chain of Command? Did I say I have a problem with the rules? Short, but correct answer is no. I will obey, without question, every single lawful order I am given. My personal objections mean nothing. That's what I promised to do when I enlisted. Do I despise Trump, with out question, yes I do. He is the antithesis of everything I stand for. Don't believe me, why don't you have a look at this: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/entry/iwillprotectyou-campaign_us_567a5126e4b0b958f658bae3 Those people are true soldiers. You state that if I were active duty US military, you'd report me and have me discharged. No they wouldn't. The most they'd do is take the vowels out of my last name. As a citizen of a democratic nation, I am entitled to hold whatever opinion I care to. As long as that opinion reflects the values of the society which I serve. I also noticed the disdain you heap on me because I am a Canadian soldier. Here's a thought, why don't you ask a Marine what they think of us. Lysistrata, in all honesty, I don't want to make an enemy of you. I can and do respect the fact that you like Trump. Just remember that I'll defend your right to hold those opinions.

US military ban on Trans
I've had to do a bit of serious thinking before I chimed in on this topic. I have an opinion on Transgendered persons serving, and I'm very passionate about it. I'm going to say some things that you may not like, that you may not agree with. But I really don't care. Some of you know what I am, some more of you don't. For the record, I am active duty military. I am a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. When iSocialism pointed out that serving in the military is privilege, not a right. He is absolutely correct. When I think of what I had to go through to earn the privilege to call my self a soldier, to be one of the select to stand and defend the rights of each and everyone of my fellow citizens. Not everyone can do it. I put my life on hold for over two years to earn the right to wear the uniform I do. It was one of the hardest things I've had to do. I am so proud that I earned the title of soldier. I am so proud that I can wear my uniform. If you are too fat that you can't run the length of yourself, then you have no business wearing a uniform. If you can't see past the colour of someones skin, then you have no business wearing a uniform. If you can't see past someones religion (or lack thereof), then you have no business wearing a uniform. If you can't see past someones sexuality, then you have no business wearing a uniform. One of the proudest moments in my service to date is when I stopped some dude from beating the ever loving shit out of a brat who called me a murderer and spit on me. Because that's what it is to be a soldier. To stand and defend. To do what's right no matter the cost. When I saw that blow dried orange baboon, that demagogue, the idiot you've elected as President, ban Transgendered persons from serving in the military. It filled me with disgust. How dare someone who has never worn his country's uniform talk about how these individuals will affect the "operational readiness" of the military. What the fuck does he know? The senior leadership accepts that a significant portion of the military will be non-deployable. I, myself am DAG Yellow. That has more to do with the unit I'm employed in, than anything else. I work with a number of people who fall into the same category. Whether its because they have a TCAT or a PCAT. Some of the people I work with have those categories, they are still able to perform their duties. One person I work with has a fucked up shoulder, be she is still able to run 10k every single day, she is a very professional, and a dedicated soldier Should she be discharged? If you get pregnant, you immediately become DAG Yellow for nearly two years. So, as long as a transgendered person does not violate the Universality of Service, who gives a damn. The reason why the senior leadership accepts that a number of us will be non-deployable is they are reluctant to see that investment walk out the door. I am a QL5, PLQ qualified Corporal(4)(s) Supply Technician. The government has invested over a million dollars in my training thus far. I still have my QL6, ILQ, and ALQ to complete....that's just my career courses. Unless one of us breeches Universality of Service, they don't want to see that investment, that experience walk out the door. Which is why they will accept the 18 months it takes to for a transgendered person to complete the process. Here's something for you to consider, the same things that are being said about Transgendered people being allowed to serve openly, were the same things that were said about Homosexuals being allowed to serve openly, were the same things that were said about African-Americans serving. Here's something else. Transgendered persons have always served. Those veterans, the Honoured Dead you venerate on Remembrance Day (Nov 11), those heroes, those young men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for your freedom. Some of those heroes were Transgendered. I have had the privileged of serving along side a transgendered soldier. He's an awesome guy, and it didn't bother me in the least. To be frank, it bothered none of us. If it doesn't bother us, then what the hell is the problem? The only question we ask is this "Can I depend on you?" Will you have my back? When I hurt, will you help me. When I'm down and bleeding out, screaming for help, will you come and get me? If you can answer yes, then who gives a fiddler's fuck what you do or what you are. I don't care if you are Transgendered. I don't care you are Gay or Lesbian. I don't care if you are in to BDSM. I don't care if you are an adult baby. I don't care if you write My Little Pony Erotica. (Funny story, a buddy of mine is in the Navy and one of his shipmates does this). I don't care if you dress up as a fox and frequent Furry Conventions. I don't care what you are, what you're into as long as you are are happy, safe and within the bounds of law. All I ask, "Can I depend on you?"

Black Bloc attacks two journalists
I read this earlier this morning and found it fairly interesting: http://globalnews.ca/news/3694044/black-bloc-warning-urges-more-violence-against-canadian-journalists/ I'll be honest, it's not because ANTIFA/Black Bloc members decided attacked two journalists. I've been expecting that for some time, the only question was which group would be the first to do it. This is what I found interesting; "Sometimes, it is necessary to go against what the mainstream considers ‘acceptable,’ to break the law in order to do the ethical thing,” the post read. “Those who mask up to fight the racist far-right have decided, at great personal risk, that they will use any means necessary to shut down fascist organizing.” Interesting, eh? The "alt-right" (a term I despise), labels the mainstream media "fake news" (implying they are liars), leftist/liberal elites, among other terms. They scream about a "left wing media bias", and they support a "socialist agenda" Meanwhile the "alt-left" (another term I despise), calls them a bunch of fascists and by implication a bunch of racists. They scream about the media having a corporate agenda supporting a capitalist world view. Think for a minute. What does this say about the mainstream media? They can't be both fascist and socialist at the same time. They can't push a capitalist and a communist agenda at the same time.

Damn Thieves
That's strange. I've had stuff come through Fedex and they won't leave it at my door, because I live in an apartment building. Normally, I have to either go to their depot in Montreal or their local office depending on the size.\ I think you can file a claim if you never received your item. Either that or dispute to payment with your credit card provider. To be honest, if your monitor was stolen, dispute the payment.

The Real Life Faces of IRON
Yes, I am. Before I'm asked, I'm a Supply Technician (00168). Which is why I'm standing in front of a couple of pallets of rations. That was taken with my phone's camera, explains the poor quality.
